Excellent transfer of my favorite version of King Kong, with special features that aren't on my previously purchased DVD. I've always wondered why this was the only version of King Kong that couldn't be found on Blu-ray (until now). Thought maybe because it displayed the Twin Towers? Either way, when I saw this I got one quickly, like that, before they're gone. With Jeff Bridges being one of my favorite actors, & Jessica Lange in her most beautiful prime, & real effects before the faker looking CGI, this is by far my favorite version of this flick (tho I do love the original & Jackson's, too). But this tops 'em all, IMO. Oh, & the OG cover, with Kong standing on the Twin Towers, is on the other side of the reversible cover, as I wasn't too thrilled with the new cover art.

One of Paramount's greatest films. Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, and Jessica Lange give awesome performances as one of the best King Kong films ever made. Him climbing the World Trade center makes it even greater!!

Another fantastic release from Shout! Factory. The restoration looks and sounds great, accompanied, as always, by superb extra features. The slipcover artwork is awesome looking, so glad I actually found a copy at my local Best Buy, and for a great price too. This is probably my favorite King Kong film, and now it’s a part of my ever growing collection thanks to Shout! Factory.

~ King Kong (1976) gets the HD Blu-ray treatment ~

King Kong, the first remake of the original one with FAYE WRAY in the starring lead role. Jessica Lange looks really good here in the female lead role, and she did a great job. Jeff Bridges comes on board as a stowaway but finds his usage as the crew photographer. Overall, for a 1976 movie, I think it is going to look as good as it is going to get. The HD Blu-ray is great with good sound as well. Easy selections in the main menu. The main menu is good with background music. There is NO CGI here, so, it's basically all props and movie magic of the times. The ending will surprise you, thinking it takes place on the Empire State Building. It does not. We get to see it all unfold in the Twin Towers of NYC. The ones destroyed on Sep. 11, 2001. Lots of special features here, probably the most for this movie that will ever be. I wished though that Jessica Lange could have done a new interview for it and Jeff Bridges. Recommended!

I mainly got this because I'm a fan of King Kong in general. The movie has it's moments and it's virtues, but in the end comes third behind the classic original and Peter Jackson's love letter of a remake. It's also worth getting because it finally makes available the extended 2 part television version which added many new scenes while also trimming the most graphic violent scenes

Good picture quality. For those that don't remember or are not familiar with this movie. This Kong movie is more of a romance/love story more than anything else. Kong has a big crush on his leading lady Jessica Lange who is making her feature film debut. You are not going to see any dinosaurs or Kong fighting any dinosaurs like in the original 1933 and 2005 versions. The only giant creature Kong fights in this movie is a giant snake. In short this is what the movie is about: Kong gets girl. Kong loses girl. Kong gets girl again. Kong gets kill by helicopters. End of movie. Enjoy the movie. I enjoyed it when it came out in theaters and still do.

This Kong is a particular favorite of mine. I have always preferred this one over all the other Kong films. It's what I grew up with, It's what I know from back in the day as a kid. This Kong is the bloodiest and has the most graphic death scene of them all. That roar, that classic iconic King Kong roar is one of the reasons I love this movie. The film has it's fans and detractors, but to me King Kong 76' has always been the go to for me. This blu ray transfer has a sharp picture. Best it's ever looked so far. It's the audio that shines. The 5.1 sound carries the movie well. The music and sound effects are remarkable for an old movie. You can feel the weight of Kong's stomping.

When this movie was released in the late 70's, it was viewed as a film that would invigorate how special effects changed in movies. It didn't disappoint in this category. At the time it was so believable that an ape could be that size and of course this introduced us to Jessica Lange. At times the storyline was weak and how events and assumptions seemed a bit over the top but overall it worked. John Barry added suspense and a bit of calmness with his soundtrack and this movie is still entrenched in my childhood memory. The Kong in this King Kong is certainly the King!

This is a decent Blu-ray that comes with two Versions of the film. Of course the theatrical cut, but you also get a reconstruction of the TV cut/3 hour version. Which has never had a official release so that’s a big bonus. The picture quality is superb and it’s definitely worth updating from previous releases. It’s so good that in certain scenes, I think it makes the film looks dated as you can see how certain effects are pulled off! The movie itself isn’t a classic and not even my personal favorite King Kong film but it features some of the best suitmation cinema has to offer. Although the movie being a bit dull in certain points at the end of the day it isn’t the best retelling of Kong but it’s still worth a watch. This Blu-ray appeals to the average movie lover and to the hard core collector!

What can I say? It's King Kong! So glad they are re-releasing the classics on Blu-Ray with digital enhancements! Some of them look better than ever, some however, are just up scales of the original DVD release (usually the 80's and 90's movies). But they seem to be doing a great job on the films prior to 1980! They did a good job on this one, not sure if it's re-done from the original film or if it's an upscale. There tends to be some graininess at times that should not be there, but who knows! All-in-all, worth the money!

I had seen this version of King Kong once about a dozen years ago and was not very impressed, but seeing it again was like a whole new experience. Was it the improvement in A/V quality over the old DVD or was I in a better mood? I don’t know, but I am a fan of this version now and I couldn’t wait to dive into the bonus features, of which there are many. The bonus features do not disappoint. The main draw is the 3 hour TV cut of the film. All of these features made me appreciate this version even more. If you are a fan of this film or want to become one, this is a must have Blu-ray!

Nice to see the 1976 version get the blu-ray treatment finally. Adding the tv version was also a nice touch even though you can tell it was prepared specifically for tv: fade outs/ins for commercial breaks, edits for language/violence, a replay of the opening credits for the second half (it was shown over 2 nights), but you can't blame the disc manufacturer for that. They just included what the movie's producer's assembled. All in all, a worthy addition to a blu-ray collection.

This remake gets a lot of flack but personally it's just as great as the 33 version even better at times. Rick Baker in the Kong suit makes for some awesome Kong action scenes. The restoration is beautiful showing off a film grain that makes it look timeless. It also has plenty of special features, the behind the scenes of this film is so fascinating ( from the robot kong they intended to do not working last minute , to them nearly crushing Miss Lange during the scenes with the giant arm. Highly recommend for any fan of this version or for your kong collecton.

Great Action-Adventure Movie! When a research ship is sent to explore an island thought to be rich in oil, paleontologist Jack Prescott (Jeff Bridges) sneaks aboard, having heard strange rumors about the island. En route, the crew rescues Dwan (Jessica Lange), the sole survivor of a shipwreck. When they arrive, they find native people living in fear of a monster called Kong. The natives kidnap Dwan and sacrifice her to what turns out to be an enormous ape. Dwan is eventually rescued, and the ape captured for a gala exhibit. Entertaining and Fun Movie!

I tried watching this movie on hbo max and the image quality was so bad I had to turn it off. Luckily shout factory rescanned the film and released this blu ray for fans of kong. It looks great for a 1976 movie. On a 4K tv, you may have to turn on some noise reduction or artificial enhancement, as the grain is still pretty heavy, but the picture quality and level of detail is excellent. King Kong is incredibly creepy and goofy in this movie, but the human characters really stand out. Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange were perfect for this adaptation. The artwork on the case is really well done too. Has both tv and theatrical versions of the movie. Highly recommend.
