It’s got some good actors in it, but if you’re looking for a seriously scary story and plot, this isn’t it. It’s the perfect B movie with a few jumps, laughs, and a decent plot.

I honestly don't remember what I expected from this originally. I saw comedians and thought it would be a riot, but then it was kinda dark, but then not dark enough to not make it a family film. It walks a lot of lines and for that I appreciate it as a fun holiday movie.

Great job of providing the Christmas atmosphere, fun story, the humor landed for me for the most part but didn’t like some of the characters and i prefer the alternate ending.

This is quickly becoming our new go to movie for the holidays. Sure....it's about the evil alternate Santa named Krampus, but the movie is filled with quirky humor, homicidal gingerbread men, and the strained extended family dynamic you expect around the holidays.

If you want a mixture of Christmas Vacation and Gremlins you've found your movie. They did a great job casting mostly comedic actors because they make what could have been a heavy movie seem just flat out ridiculous. Well worth a watch every Christmas season.

It has enough personality and ambition that it could easily become an annual tradition for those who prefer "Silent Night, Deadly Night" to "It's a Wonderful Life."

    New Christmas Horror Classic

Absolutely loved this film, much like the same crew's work on another holiday-themed horror film (with tongue planted firmly in cheek,) Trick R Treat. If you've seen the aforementioned Trick R Treat, you know what to expect tonaly- there's genuine creepiness, and for each instance, there's also some laughs, often of the same instance in question. In Krampus, we're introduced to Adam Scott and his family, who have an outward happiness, even if there's unhappiness just beneath the surface. His brother, played by frequent Will Ferrell collaborator, David Koechner, (playing a pseudo- "Cousin Eddie" of Vacation films role here- while never overreaching to rip-off territory,) comes with his family to spend the holidays, where their mother also lives. Where Scott's family may hide their issues more successfully, his brother's family wear their issues as both badges of honor and suits of armor, and it takes digging to find their happiness buried below. This brings it to something I normally can't stand in films... but is perfect in today's climate; not so subtle political statements. Where Scott is the democrat, Koechner is a gun-loving staunch republican. Like the story itself, it's all done tongue in cheek, and never becomes overbearing; much of what's said and done is for laughs. (Upon a knock on the door, and a present being left on the porch, as they wonder who left it, Koechner quips, "it must have been a Democrat".) If anything, the political message here is one both sides should be able to agree on: when the chips are down, no matter what we believe, we're stronger working together. (If you even choose to follow through on the political clues throughout the film- as stated, this is far from a political movie, and both sides get their share of jokes in the film). Of course, it's Scott's son, bullied by his sports-addicted female cousins, that has a crisis of his yearly letter to Santa. In a fit, he rips it up and the spirit of Krampus is personified, besting the Christmas spirit that he and his grandmother seemed to carry for the entire family. What follows is a great Christmas film; much more one than horror or even comedy. It uses all of the genres it includes to make a great film about Christmas, family, and conflict... while remaining entertaining it's entire running time. And that's what's made Krampus great. You can view it in any way you choose, because each genre it represents, each message it sends is strong enough to watch it as an individual theme, or to just sit down and take it all in. There's very little letdown here, with my only complaint being a lack of screen time... or screen time of impressiveness of the title character. When Krampus is seen, he's an impressive figure, but I wanted to see more- particularly because it wears a Santa mask that's never removed. As impressive as the rest of the creature is, I would have loved to see what the FX crew had dreamed up as its true face. While I selected 5 stars, Krampus really should be 4 1/2. The minimal usage of Krampus was enough to leave me that 1/2 star disappointed. I know what I'll be watching this Christmas!

I purchased this for the digital copy because it was less than buying it on iTunes. The digital copy was for movies anywhere, which works with iTunes once you create an account.

    The Nightmare During Christmas

When I think horror and Christmas I think Nightmare Before Christmas. Well this movie is more like the Nightmare during Christmas. I assumed with a movie like this the plot would be very simple and it was. Family comes to visit. Young boy is losing faith in Christmas. Family pushes him over the edge. Boy gives up on the holiday. Enter Krampus. What I was not expecting form this movie was the work put into Krampus and his creatures of torment. The special effects for this kind of movie are superb and the story moves along never really losing any pace. If your looking for a different kind of horror/drama movie or even Christmas movie this is it. This movie will have you invested in it right from the beginning all the way to the end with a very interesting ending and may even have you looking at how you celebrate this holiday. Christmas or horror fans do yourself a favor and check this one out!

One of my new favorite Christmas movies. Story comes from a fable. Basically appreciate Christmas and what it stands for and you get Santa. If not, well.

Nice Little Creature Effects Holiday-Themed Movie

This is a low-budget, Christmas themed horror/fantasy/creature-effects-driven/dark humor film that I was pleasantly surprised by. The film really hones itself in peeling back the family tension of Christmas, while weaving a strongly stylized monster movie, along with dark humor. If you go into watching the movie for the really well done creature effects, and deglorified view of being forced into spending time with family members that, outside of family relation, there aren't any real bonds, this is a well done picture. I did find that, while they did a fantastic job of stretching their dollar in the creatures and special effects, I had a real problem with the main creature's (Krampus) lack of automated mandible, though there could be an argument made that it's more mask donned by Krampus than actual face. If you enjoy creature driven films and done mind a bleak message about being forced to spend time with relatives during the holiday, you'll enjoy this film.
