Whether new to crypto or seasoned and looking for a premium hardware wallet it doesn't get much more user friendly than this. Really impressed with the design. Shame it is so hard to obtain at retail, hopefully they get more soon.

tldr; the best crypto wallet EVER - if you want an offline wallet, the Ledger Stax is THE wallet to get I have owned a LOT of cold storage, offline crypto wallets. But there's always some sort of trade off, mostly because most offline wallets are oversized USB keys with a screen (or worse no screen). The USB-like wallets always worry me that someone will one day mistake them for a fancy USB stick but I have no fear when it comes to the Ledger Stax. -= In the Box =- - Ledger Stax Wallet - Sleeve for the Ledger Stax - USB C cable - recovery sheet (for your recovery codes) - stickers, instructions -= First Impressions =- Wow. The Ledger Stax just looks cool. It's credit card sized, about 3-4 stacked credit cards high, and the eInk display is curved around to the spine. The spine shows your wallet name (you can cuztomize this) and the eInk display is sharp and it's touch responsive. The included wallet magnetically closes, and the ledger also magnetically connects into the wallet. This is really the first crypto wallet the feels like a wallet and not just hardware. -= Setup =- I always prefer to use my phone vs desktop apps, so setup with the Ledger Live iOS app. The app is free, no registration required. There was no issue pairing the Ledger Stax to the app. There was the obligatory firmware update, Ledger always does a hardware security check, then you walk through the setup - device PINs, recovery keywords, verify recovery keywords, install crypto token apps. Took under 5min. There's a gentle beep when you touch the screen and some of the options /settings you can adjust in the Ledge Wallet yourself and don't need the app. -= Using the Ledger Stax =- Using the Ledger Stax has been impressive. By default it supports Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) but there are apps for literally 100s of coins. There's a little over 1mb of onboard storage and the BTC and ETH apps currently take 270kb (total). There are apps for EVERY coin you can imagine, DOGE, SOL, XRP, and a lot of lesser known coins. Scrolling through the list, I also found a Security Key App, so you can even use the Ledger for Password Less logins (Passkeys). You do need to setup new addresses on the blockchain to receive your coins, which Ledger takes care of readily. Coins transfer to the wallet itself when you connect it to the app, and I found the transfer time reasonably good minutes (subject to demands on the blockchain). -= What's Good =- The Ledger Stax is just super easy to use. The first cold wallet I would actually encourage a friend to use if they were not technical and just speculating on coins. The eInk display makes the Ledger Stax infinitely easier to use and given it's eInk, I am confident the battery will last for weeks if not months. It also feels premium. It's truly perfect. -= What's Not So Good =- I have thought for days on where I can fault the Ledger Stax but for the life of me, can't think of one. I guess if I had to think of one, if Ledger also let you add offline (old world) Credit Cards to the Stax, then I would use it as my single NFC wallet everywhere. But that's a stretch given it's not always connected and needs a phone - so I'm VERY happy. -= Final Thoughts =- Honestly, if you want to protect your crypto assets, want a solid, user friendly, and quality cold wallet that offers great security with usability - get the Ledger Stax. Don't even hesitate.

The Stax is an interesting piece of technology because for what it is — a crypto hardware wallet — it’s pretty advanced and you’ll be hard-pressed to find any true cons with it (I have two very small ones). + + + Pros + + + + Size: it’s about the size of a debit card. + Software/Security: although it’s open source, a third party company audits the software/security measures and tests for vulnerabilities. They’re very transparent about this process. + E-ink: was surprisingly easy to view/read and likely helps significantly boost battery life. + User Friendly: I had another wallet from a different brand that was a pain to setup. The setup screens on the Stax are very straight forward and easy to follow. + Independent: my previous wallet had to be physically tethered to a computer to both power and use it. It’s nice to have a wallet that doesn’t have to be physically tethered. + Build quality: exceptional! + Wired & wireless charging: USB-C or Qi - nice to see them supporting universal standards and staying away from proprietary tech. + Keyboard: most other wallets screens are so small and have minimal buttons you use to toggle thru letters — in other words, they’re impossible to comfortably type on. The Stax has a full-size QWERTY keyboard. + Can be used for Passkey support. Leverages NFC to allow for a tap-based authentication. - - - Cons - - - - I wish the E-ink display was backlit. - Storage is only just over 1MB which is crazy for a device in 2025. * * * What Else, You Should Know * * * * You’ll likely want to get a case for storing/protecting your wallet -they’re sleek and magnetic! * You cannot view your portfolio on the Stax since it’s offline/cold storage. * The security in this is AMAZING. It uses a secure element chip that’s similar to our computers, smartphones and the chips on our debit/credit cards. * You can also have the Stax shuffle the keypad around for when you enter PINs (so it’s not the standard number pad layout - for extra security! * Similar to a computer, you can have your Stax auto lock after X minutes of inactivity.

It is not too often than I come across a device that instantly has that “wow” factor for me, but I definitely got that from this wallet. Perhaps because of what it is, and what I have seen in that space previously I was a little surprised, but also because it is just well done across the board. While the design and look are what really got me, none of that matters if the wallet itself does not do what it is meant to do…and do it well. The Stax passes all of my tests here. While most of my moves and holdings in crypto are modest and simple, I found everything quite easy to do. Set-up, managing, transferring, and transacting are all breeze and easy to follow. There is support for thousands of assets, connecting with multiple exchanges is not difficult, and third party wallets are also easy to link with. The cold wallet itself is a good step for peace of mind and security, but they also do a good job with it here, in terms of software, info, prompts, and processes. As for the build, design, and look? Simply, I love it. It is a great size, weight, and build. It feels solid, is made from good materials, uses USB-C, or wireless (MagSafe compatible) for charging, and given the power needs has a battery that will seemingly last for some time. They also include a magnetic folio/case which I have found I really like ($39 separately). All of that said, it is the screen that does it for me. I love the choice of e-ink, as it is clear regardless of situation, is suitable given the needs here, and means battery draw is negligible. Additionally, the screen is very responsive. Those factors, included with the size, makes it a joy to use. No tiny buttons and no pecking at a micro screen, both of which are often the case with other wallets. Lots of information can be present and choices can easily be made. Personally, that is what I am looking for. Admittedly, some may not. To some, background lock screen images, the ability to literally stack multiple wallets, wireless charging, a very cool screen, included case…etc. may seem unnecessary. Personally, I think this is a premium product, and I think it backs up the cost with what it provides. I truly think the value is there. You get all of those “extra” things, with a wonderful combination of security, design, and ease of use.

Best Hardware Wallet I've Ever Used

The title says it all. The Ledger Stax is the best hardware crypto wallet I have ever used. The Stax is a hardware crypto wallet that features an e-ink touch screen display as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Included in the box is a usb cable, magnetic wallet cover, informational leaflet, and multiple cards to write down your 24 word security phrase. Setting up the Stax is similar to setting up any other hardware wallet. First you download the app either on PC or smartphone, and then just follow the steps to install the particular wallets you need. You can also buy and trade crypto directly within the Ledger app, using popular exchanges like Coinbase. It's all very seamless and simple enough to figure out even if you are brand new to crypto. Using the Stax is very satisfying. Usually with hardware wallets, the user interface is anything but friendly. However, with the Stax, the touch screen is large enough that it is as simple as using any other touch screen device. Input is responsive and accurate. I really appreciate the inclusion of Bluetooth connectivity, which allows you to connect directly to your smartphone and complete transactions without the use of a PC. This does mean there is a battery in the Stax unit itself. Only time will tell how this wallet will stand up to the test of time. I can only imagine that even if it is useful with a dead battery, that eventually, the battery will swell like all rechargables eventually do. So while the bluetooth connectivity is appreciated for convenience, I don't think I would consider this device for long term storage (10+ years). I wouldn't want an exploding or swelling battery to cause me to lose investments. That being said, as long as you are aware of that risk for long term storage, the Stax is an absolute joy to use, and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice, easy to use hardware wallet.

The Ledger Stax is a sleek, modern device that helps to make cold storage of your crypto easier to manage. Using the Stax is a much more intuitive process than some other storage options, transforming the often-clunky world of cold storage into an experience that's both aesthetically pleasing and remarkably user-friendly. While not without minor trade-offs, the Stax has quickly become my go-to wallet, seamlessly blending robust security with exceptional usability for everyday crypto management. The Stax does a number of things very well. Primary among those is security; the Stax delivers top-tier security. Ledger emphasizes its commitment to transparency by making 95% of the device's source code publicly available, demonstrating a dedication to scrutiny and community trust through not only open source code but also regular independent audits. The remaining proprietary MCU-level code is the only part not released, a common practice in hardware security. This level of openness provides confidence in the Ledger's security architecture with the Stax. Setting up the Ledger Stax is remarkably straightforward. The inclusion of Wi-Fi functionality, along with the e-ink touchscreen (which I'll discuss further in a moment) streamlines the initial setup process, making it easier to get your wallet up and running compared to other cold storage devices that may rely solely on USB connections for initial configuration. As mentioned above, the touchscreen e-ink screen helps to significantly streamline the user experience with the Stax for a 3 main reasons; the touch interface makes this feel similar to a smartphone in terms of navigation, the battery life is exceptional on the Stax, and Ledger has greatly increased the security of the screen by having direct display integration and foregoing the usual display controller which may be prone to vulnerabilities in the event that your Stax is stolen. Overall, this feels like a natural and intuitive screen and interface for this type of device. However, the tradeoff with this particular e-ink screen is that there's no integrated backlight, meaning you won't be able to use the Stax in darker environments without a source of light. A worthy trade off in my opinion. There are some downsides to the Stax. Users managing a large and diverse portfolio of cryptocurrencies will encounter the its limited app storage. If you actively use more than a handful of different crypto applications, you'll likely need to uninstall and reinstall apps using the Ledger Live application to accommodate your various holdings. While your assets remain secure even when apps are uninstalled, this app management process can become somewhat tedious for users with extensive crypto holdings. Additionally, while apps are provided for a wide array of crypto coins, I did see some notable omissions, namely Shiba Inu. While you can still manage your SHIB holdings with the Stax, the process is more involved and less straight forward than with other coins that have convenient apps. Overall, the Stax is an incredibly solid device that successfully merges a visually stunning aesthetic with robust security features and an exceptionally user-friendly interface. While the app storage issue is a bit of a head scratching limitation, the innovative e-ink screen and overall ease of use help to make this a no brainer for those looking for an innovative cold storage device. As a bonus, it even includes a protective magnetic case that really ties the whole package together.

Ledger Wallet. Great deal. The wallet is very secure and really easy to use. Great service. Ordered, prepaid and three days later it came in - new and completely sealed. I could not have asked for a smoother or better experience. I will definitely be sure to order new or out of stock items in the future from Best Buy.

Cold Wallet w/ Bells and Whistles You May Not Need

The Ledger Stax is a gorgeous, offline, hardware wallet, aka cold wallet, that supports a wide range of crypto currencies. About the size of a large cellphone battery, it has an E-Ink touchscreen which curves around towards the back. The screen itself has rounded edges and comes with a premium looking folio. Interfaces are bluetooth, USB-C, NFC, and of course, the touchscreen. The folio attaches magnetically so you don’t need to worry about the Stan’s protection falling off accidentally. The core feature is the offline storage of your crypto’s private keys. By storing in something that does not have direct internet access, you avoid a lot of attacks which can compromise your data storage. Regardless of what passwords get hacked, fingerprints cloned, phone grabbed while unlocked, nobody is getting access to your crypto. The added functionality enabled by the touchscreen and NFC/Bluetooth interface is just potential icing on the cake though there is one feature which almost sneaks by you but is pretty useful - wireless charging! You can be completely wireless with this. In the box, you get the Stax itself, a recovery sheet on which you’ll write down your recovery phrase (though you may want to consider something with more durability than paper that you’d still keep offline), a USB-C cable, and the magnetic folio. The immediate thing you notice is how small and thin the Stax is - likely smaller than the wallet you’re using, even if you’re just ultra minimalist and carrying a few credit cards and ID. The Stax is off, but the E-Ink screen already has some text saved to it, “Trust Yourself” on the front of screen and “Welcome to Ledger Stax” along the spine. There’s just a single button on the side which you’ll long press to turn on. On the first power up, the Stax will give you a brief text overview of what it does, then prompt you to complete setup using the Ledger Live phone or desktop app or completely manually. Setup with the Live app is pretty straightforward. You’d select the wallet you’re setting up, give permissions to connect to devices, it will search for the Stax over Bluetooth (make sure it’s on), pair the two making sure the pairing codes match. The app then does a genuine check - I guess to validate it’s not connecting to some faked or man-in-the-middle device. After that, you can name the Stax using its onscreen keyboard. The phone app provides a nice list of all the steps you will go through and checks them off as they’re completed so there’s no guessing or worrying that you missed something. But you will essentially do everything on the Stax. Next, you’ll set a pin and when confirming the value, you’ll see one security feature - the keypad is shuffled each time so someone observing you tapping, but not seeing the values, can’t predict what you typed since the numbers are never in the same position. Next, assuming you’re not recovering, you’ll init a new wallet and write down the recovery phrase. Use the 24 word option, it’s just more secure. Following this, you’d install an “app” for each cryptocurrency you’ll manage. This is establishing a link between the wallet and your phone. You can then customize your lock screen image from either an NFT, the limited selection from their library, or your own custom image. Pro-tip, make it the “share” QRcode for the crypto you must use for p2p transactions. Aside from managing your cold wallet, you can actually transact crypto from the Ledger Live app. But it’s simple enough to also make purchases elsewhere and use Ledger Live to send/receive between the third party market and the Ledger Stax. The Live app does a lot but for more detailed coin features, you’d want to either use the desktop app or do things elsewhere. With sending, you’ll always need to unlock the Stax and then do a tap and hold maneuver to confirm sending. Battery life for the Stax is pretty short. Maybe a day if you’re using it regularly or a week of intermittent use. So, I think the general use pattern is to either charge it before use or if things are time sensitive, then plug in via USB-C to use. As it turns out, the NFC isn’t that useful right now. So, the idea is that you use the security key app (installed like the crypto apps) which lets use use the Ledger Stax as 2FA device via certain web browsers on your computer or phone. On mobile, yes, you’d use NFC but with PC, it’s probably easier to use USB-C. NFC readers just aren’t that common a peripheral. But with the short battery life of the Stax, it’s not a great device to have lying around to randomly use to respond to a 2FA or MFA request. And on mobile, the mobile device itself or an app on the device can do the job just as well so I don’t see much of a benefit. In short, this is a cool device, compact, thin, light, that does cold storage and bridges usability gap in getting access to your cold storage and moving crypto back and forth off it. The touchscreen interface is nice and I think the main benefit is being able to do a quick offline check of your holdings and doing a final confirmation of transaction addresses before you send. But a lot of the rest while cool, just can’t overcome limitations imposed by either the device being very small or compact or needing to be a secure hardware wallet. I suspect most people’s day to day crypto workflow will end up being transferring from Stax to another wallet, do a bunch of operations with that less secure wallet, then transfer back to Stax. And so, what’s the benefit of the Stax that you’ll be sticking someplace to just wait around for the brief period weekly or monthly where you’ll be moving something to/from cold storage? To look good? Let you show off your assets offline? I think this ends up being a buy more for someone who has a particular aesthetic they’re going for than a need for functionality beyond cold storage. Or for people who are very intermittent crypto users, appreciate the security of cold storage but want something relatively easy to use because the ins and outs of crypto and moving between wallets isn’t something they’re really keeping tabs on so ease of use is almost as important as security.
