    Best "video" game ever

Is this really a video game? 5 min into it I'm building Legos in the real world. It really is kind of amazing to have both. For kids, depending on Lego experience, parents may need to assist with these or the expansion sets. For adults, ditto, ha. The game itself is fun and filled with pop culture references from every corner of entertainment. Game play is the same as many of the previous Lego video games just with the addition of real Lego building.

I have been a long time fan of LEGO games from the very beginning and LEGO Dimensions truly shines above all of the others. I haven't had so much fun in a game like I have sending Batman down the yellow brick road and seeing him get confused with the scarecrow trying to find a brain with the scarecrow that tries to infect an entire city with fear. The humor in the game has stepped up quite a bit and helps make the admission worth the steep price. I'm also a big fan of building LEGOs and the starter pack has a lot of pieces to satisfy the need to build. The LEGO gate seems extremely innovative, I haven't played anything else like it such as Spyro Skylanders or Disney Infinity so I couldn't compare what it is like. Once the LEGO toys have been built and set on the gateway pad you turn on the game and any character or vehicle is instantly in the game. This includes any of the add-on packs purchased for the game. I purchased the Back to the Future pack along with the starter pack and was able to use Marty McFly instantly after putting him on the pad. I was not able to use the DeLorean or Hover board until I played through the Back to the Future add-on because that level has digital instructions on how to build those vehicles. Once I did I could go back to where I left off in the story and those vehicles could also be added right in to main story line. It's definitely a fun way to mix things up and keep things fresh. During gameplay there is a continuous need to swap character positions on the Gateway pad to either escape from a trap in-game or to teleport to different areas of the level. I was pleasantly surprised that this was part of the gameplay as it provides a use to actually having these real life LEGO toys. What is really nice about the vehicles such as the DeLorean and Batmobile is that when you upgrade them in-game it saves the upgrades and changes you make to the toy so that you can take it with you to a friends house who also has the game. This way you can trade and borrow toys between friends so that they can have a chance to play with them and unlock new areas, and as I said the upgrades you make to them will still be there. I would expect this to work between XBOX and Playstation since the toys are all the same but I do not know for sure. The downside to this game is the price as it is $100 just for the base game. Though you can play through the entire main game with everything it comes with and still have a stellar experience with lots of replay value, there are some areas that are locked until you purchase other sets. As I said, I purchased the Back to the Future pack along with the Starter pack which made a very expensive trip to Best Buy. The BTTF pack is a Level Pack that includes 1 character, 2 vehicles, and 1 gameplay level that allows you to play through the first movie. The level packs are $30. Team packs are $25: 2 characters, 2 vehicles. Fun packs are $15 with 1 character and 1 vehicle. I've heard the prices for LEGOs toy packs are more expensive than other games with toy packs but it really comes down to how much of a fan you are of these packs. Price doesn't matter to me when it comes to flying the DeLorean around Gotham City or Springfield because I love that franchise. You have to pick and choose what is worth the price to you. Kids of course will want them all so this game could be tough on parents to say no as much as it is for the kids who say why not? Overall its an extremely well done and fun experience with the Starter pack, I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of LEGO or any of the properties in the game.

LEGO does toys to life games right!

LEGO Dimensions is a great game for kids and adults. The game plays like a standard LEGO game adventure, but you have a portal that you can place LEGO pieces on to add characters and items/vehicles to the game level. It is a lot of fun to see the characters mix and match across various franchises and it brings out a lot of the humor in the game. I will say the only downfall of this game is the price. THE PRICE! $100 for a starter kid will get you the game, the portal and 3 mini figs. The add on packs range from $15-$35 for extra characters or levels, and there are a ton of them. The main game can be played all the way through with just the starter pack though and the add-ons are all optional. So be nice to your wallet/purse.

I have loved the LEGO video games since I got the first Star Wars game for my Nintendo Game Cube. Dimensions has brought all of the great mechanics from their games and added a whole lot of new stuff to create this masterpiece. Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle are able to interact with a lot of the special mechanics and they are the only characters you need to complete the storyline (I'm only about half of the way through but I assume the rest is the same). They also give you access to the open worlds of DC, Lord of the Rings, and The LEGO movie. It is so much fun to build the LEGO's as you go through the game. This game is humongous! I now have characters from 7 of the worlds and there continues to be more and more stuff to do. One down side is that you will need to purchase at least one character from each world if you want to complete everything. There are some mechanics that can only be completed by one character (i.e. Unikitty is the only character that can interact with rainbow bricks). The good thing is that, if you have your hints turned on, they will tell you which characters, vehicles, or gadgets can work with each thing. If you love LEGO's and video games, this is the perfect game for you.

Lego Dimensions can soak up alot of hours if you like it. Its very similar to previous lego titles but this one brings toys to life. It does cost a pretty penny once you start buying individual figures, but Best Buy seems to have them half off every 2-3 weeks which makes it much more affordable. On top of the core storyline there are different hub worlds for each of the franchises (if you own a figure from that franchise). They did a great job in pulling in ALOT of different franchises to make this one stand out.

with a hefty price tag - the difference is that what you normally earn through gameplay and come back to use in 'free play', you can now buy and get unlocks faster. If you are OK with this, and see the value in that there is 4 times the normal content with 4 times the normal price tag, you will be OK with this, but if you have played the last 4 LEGO releases, be prepared to see some repeat content.

This is a tough game to review because it is a fun LEGO video game, but there is so much technicality to it that it's hard to love. Like I said, first and foremost it's a LEGO video game, and there have only been a few that I didn't really enjoy. This one, so far, I am enjoying. But the other side to that coin is the base and all of the extra character packs you have to buy to really get things done in the game. The base is a bit annoying as every now and then it alerts you to move a character from one side of it to another, as when one of them is being attacked. But then there is also the added $$$ to spend to unlock other boards and open extra perks in the game. Like you need to buy Homer Simpson to complete the Simpsons quest level, but you also need characters that have special abilities to get certain items. So if you're a game completist, you're going to have to spend a lot more than the price of the game set to complete this at 100%. If you don't mind that, or if you're used to it from playing games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, then this game is for you.

It's a great Lego game that allows you to mix many different shows and movies together. Its great because there are so many characters you can get and change the way you play. Also, all the extra characters give you more levels and ways to win.

My son loves the game. My only concern is him loosing the pieces. The rapter from the JW set is already missing most of her pieces. Thankfully the chipped bases are the intricate pieces. Hoping they continue to add more sets.

It's a fun game! Opportunity to buy extra figures, games packs, etc adds to the potential cost, but also the fun. (And since we collect Lego minifigures anyway, it's a not a negative for us).

If you've played Disney Infinity or Skylanders, you know this can be an expensive game. There's no way you're just buying the starter pack, you have to purchase the additional playsets. Expensive, but worth it.

I have loved playing with Legos for many years. Additionally I own and enjoy most of the Lego video games that have been released on consoles. Needless to say this game should have been an easy sell. The figures are the same quality as those included with Lego sets and the vehicle and portal base are nicely detailed. The problem comes when you get past the first few hours of gameplay and realize that you need to buy the other figure sets to fully enjoy the game. At $12-25 a set, this $60 purchase has morphed into a several hundred dollar commitment. I only recommend this game and the sets only if you can find them at 50% or more off. At that price range this game becomes a reasonable purchase.
