Customers frequently mention the large screen size, excellent sound quality, and ease of use as significant advantages of the 7" Smart Display with Google Assistant. The Google Assistant functionality and video calling capabilities also receive positive feedback. However, some users experienced challenges with the initial setup process. A lack of Bluetooth speaker connectivity and Netflix support were also cited as drawbacks by some customers.

I only have 4 months with this product and it turned out very badly, I play a song and at the moment it is not heard, and when it does it sounds like it had interferences.

Good, Not Great, But Has Potential

As an existing Google Home owner, I've been eagerly awaiting the visual Google Home that this product now provides. Just like Google Home, I think this is a product that you buy more for its potential than what it can currently do. While that doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement, these speaker assistants only get better over time as features continue to be added.
As for this particular Lenovo Smart Display, I'm generally happy with it. The screen looks nice and I certainly enjoy the visual component to it as well as it having touch-screen functionality. It also now serves as my primary bedroom clock (although I would like more clock display options). Also, a big thumbs up on having a physical camera guard that can be switched to be open or closed.
I don't think this device can currently do enough things to make this a must-buy for existing Google Home owners. YouTube is obviously a BIG perk to these smart screens and yet it's currently limited in functionality. Want to watch something off of your favorites list or see a list of all the videos of a specific YouTuber? You may find yourself disappointed and frustrated. But it sure is cool to ask it to play a video from one of your favorite artists on YouTube and *boom* there it is. Google Play Music also suffers from some frustrating limitations as well. Just like YouTube, things go a lot smoother if you know exactly what you want to hear because even though it has a display, you can't ask it to show you all of the songs on a particular album so you can select one. As of now, things like YouTube and Google Play Music are extremely simplified versions of the apps that you are used to using on your phone and/or tablet.
The unit's speaker is loud, crisp and clear, but it does lack bass. Personally, I am keeping my regular Google Home in the room to play music. You can actually set it up so that your music requests through the Smart Screen will instead play on another existing Google Home, BUT they cannot currently both play the same music at the same time.
Overall, it's not perfect, but I believe it has potential. I like the physical product and I think the price tag is reasonable. Existing Google Home users may not feel that it's as big as a leap forward as they might have hoped for, but with some patience and OS improvements, it still could be. I would definitely recommend this to people who are new to Google Home since they would get all the benefits of the regular Google Home with added visual perks.

A needed assistant

Nicely packaged, similar to an Apple product in its minimalistic design. I really like the bamboo finish, only available on the 10 inch model.
Video call requires the unit to be placed in the portrait orientation.
Screen resolution is superb. Sound is not loud but clear and clean. It can be the best alarm clock you own.
Setup took between 10 and 15 minutes due to extra time used to setup my pay method, even that was easy. All devices connected without difficulty, first time.
I gave it a 4 star rating and not a 5 star rating due to the hope that I could use the device to make voice calls via wifi and not on my mobile voice plan. My mother lives in an area where the phone lines are not data capable. The canyon she lives in is remote and mobile service is unable to cover her residence. The Lenovo Assistant insists on making a video call and will not revert to a voice call. I can connect via bluetooth to call but that uses my mobile voice plan. In any case my 1st interactive assistant is of the finest pedigree. It really deserves 5 stars.

Perfect Addition for your Smart Home

When I purchased this item, I would have rated it 3 stars. But with a recent system update to add the features it was missing, I can now give it a full 5 star rating.
I bought this around the same time Google released it's own Smart Display with the Home Hub. Both served different purposes for me with this Lenovo device as the main smart display/assistant for my living area, and the Google one in my bedroom as a bedside assistant. Having the two side by side to compare it was noticeable that the software in Google's Home Hub had more features in it's software. But after a recent software update I got the missing features I wanted:
- Ability to add to a speaker group got multi room audio
- pull down menu to control your smart home (this was previously missing and the only way to control your smart devices was with voice commands instead of on display options)
There are more but these are just the major ones I cared avout. Plus, these are just the added features. Out of the box it had all the capable voice commands you could do with your typical Google Home and Home Mini lineup. Speaker quality is good and loud but doesn't compare to other wifi speakers like Sonos. Display is nice but lacks the Ambient Display technology of the Home Hub. And the optional camera with a physical cover (instead of just relying on software to disable it) is a great feature for those who love their privacy. So overall even with some of the minor cons, this thing fits the role as the Assistant/Smart Display I need for my main living area. And I highly recommend it as an addition to your smart home.

Improvement to standard Google Assistant

I've totally bought into the Google tech ecosystem. I have 7 various Google Assistants prior to this purchase. I already use Google calendar, Photos, YouTube, YouTube TV, music, and Google play for movies. I have smart home controls and Chromecast on my Tvs. And this is a improvement on my Google home experience. I use it as a digital picture frame when it's idle. It also detects if no one is around and sleeps the screen so it's not always displaying something. Telling Google to adjust my HVAC displays on the touch screen additional controls for the one I'm adjusting (Dual climate controls). I can ask for my news briefing when I wake up and it displays video of that mornings news. I can tell it to tune to TV channels, or show on demand content with my YouTube TV account so it's like a mini TV! There's a lot I can go on about but I'll just say I love it for my home and expect it to only get better with updates. Probably will buy more and eventually switch to smart displays over the regular Google Homes.

This is a great smart display to have for those who love to look at recipes! Overall you can do other things like video calling (Which honestly, I've had some trouble with. It works but if you have two users in the household connected to the same device and both of those users have the Duo app on the phone, it would start to connect and then hang up on the first attempt. If the user tries again it usually works the second time so that's good.) Besides that for those of you trying to decide between the JBL speaker and this, honestly, this display still has a pretty good sound and a great display. In my opinion, the JBL over pill shape looks kinda wack and would be hard to fit into a home area unless you have like a party house. Lenovo Smart Display all the way!

Best Smart Display Value

I purchased the 8" Lenovo Smart Display during the lead up to Black Friday for half price. I considered it versus the Google Home Hub which at the time was on sale for the same price. The Lenovo Smart Display has a larger display and better speakers while running the same software so that's what I chose to purchase and thus far, I'm very pleased with my decision. Easy to set up and works great! JBL also has a smart display and LG just came out with theirs, but both are much larger and much more expensive. So the value proposition easily says to go with the Lenovo 8" Smart Display (they also have the 10" model at a slightly higher price). My only disappointment was with Best Buy. When I got it home, I realized I received a unit that was a customer return. The package was not sealed in plastic and when I hooked it up, it showed another person's account. But the unit's condition was good as new and after performing a factory reset, it's worked just fine.

I bought my Lenovo Smart Display online on Black Friday. It arrived less than a week later. I already had five Google Assistant speakers. I placed it in the kitchen and it fits perfectly in the corner countertop. The set-up was a breeze and since then I've been spending much more time in the kitchen. The 8" screen is not too big nor too small and the picture quality is great. I enjoy accessing YouTube and YouTube TV and when I want to watch Hulu I cast with my phone. Hopefully Netflix will be added in the future. The speakers quality is more than decent. There are no controls for highs and lows from the Home app like the regular speakers but the sound is good with a little bass and plenty loud. I tried the video calling with Duo; it worked flawlessly. If only more people used Duo. I'm looking forward to further updates like the continuous conversation and more streaming services. Very satisfied with my purchase.

Love it! Love it! Love it! Love it!
Did I say Love it?
Having used it for almost one year, we love this display. We put it on the kitchen counter and it does not take up too much space. The 7-inch display is perfect for our morning routines, watch YouTube videos, listen to Spotify, and view our pictures from Google Photos.
This smart display has good sound for its size -- very adequate for viewing YouTube videos, using as a desktop display, or playing soft music in the background.
The smart display responds well to "Hey Google." (I don't like to talk to a display but I am getting used to it.)
After almost one year of using it, I wish --
(i) it would play videos from Netflix or Xfinity Stream,
(ii) we could use other video chat apps as well, such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etc. on it (it only work on Google Duo now -- but none of my contacts use it!),
(iii) I could cast my tablet (2-in-1) screen onto it so that my kitchen counter can turn into a productive space,
(iv) it would read out Outlook calendar events (or Outlook Calendar events that are ported to Google calendar) as well (life nowadays is more complex than having one Google calendar!),
(v) I could use it for Zoom or MS Teams meetings because this smart display is much easier to look at than my cell phone), and
(vi) Lenovo did not stop this line (or have an updated version with the above features but in the same price range).
I hope I am not asking too much.

I bought 11 of these for every room/patio/offices and very happy with it.
I first bought the JBL Linkview 8", great sound, easy to move around for listen to youtube music but this 10" lenovo is better for video.
1) even when it play loud music, still able to pick up your OK GOOGLE.
2) can view all your smart devices of your home by pull down the menu at any time.
3) chrome cast your video from your phone.
4) my kids like it. I like it. good luck

Forget the Google Home Hub Max

I was the proud owner of a Google Home Hub (not the Max). It served it's purpose, screen display was crisp and clear, speaker was great given the overall dimensions and voice commands were always executed easily..., really not complaints. The only reason I even ended up buying the Lenovo Smart Display was that I decided to look into a Google Home Hub Max because of it's camera and being able to do two-way calls with my 13 year old when out running errands. Little did I expect when I decided to shop for a holiday discount for one that I ran into the Lenovo unexpectedly. I was not even aware that Lenovo had enter the competitive landscape. The considerations were simple, price, size, reviews. All surpassed the benefits of the Home Hub Max, so frankly I decided to give it a chance with the security of knowing that Best Buy stands behind their products and if I were to discover that my experience was disappointing, I had the return policy to turn to. Not only was I not disappointed, it was quite the opposite. The HUGE display, better sound and even the rear bamboo esthetic turned out to be just terrific! I would highly recommend the Lenovo Smart Display over the Google variant in a heartbeat.

I have been using a Google mini for about 4 months, and when this came out I was curious to see how the screen would enhance the google experience. I have been really impressed. Where my mini just spoke my news, this plays Reuters like a TV. I also was really surprised with Google Duo and video calling, I had not used the app before and it works really well. I got my mom a Smart Display so now can both talk! It works with the cell app as well, when my boyfriend calls both my phone and Smart Display ring. The spaekers are really great too, music fills my house. Screen wise, it not as crystal clear as you would expect from Apple/Samsung but still really good quality for my Kitchen. Overall a great buy, I have told all of my friends!

I have this, the google smart hub, and the Alexa show 1st and second generation. This has a little bigger screen than the google hub, and sounds a little better. It also has a physical camera blocker which I like, the google home hub has no camera, which I like even better. Other than that, functionally they are the same. Now these vs the amazon show, the second generation show is a much bigger device. I think the show is a better physical device, but to me comes up short in the software. In my personal experience the answers and directions I get from google are just that much better than I get from Alexa. They both control my lights - hue and LIFX - they both control my nest thermostat, they both control my Wemo plugs and switches. The google home hub works very well with my tv service provider, YouTube TV and the Alexa does not. I have read that amazon show works well with Hulu tv service, I don’t have Hulu so I cannot confirm that. The bigger more expensive show looks better and sounds better and is the device I use for music. The annoying thing is that I can’t cast or watch Netflix on either device. Hulu regular video service works well on the Alexa, and cbs all access works well on the google home hub. If you can’t tell, totally unplanned but I use my devices as televisions a lot more than I expected to.

I have and use a Google Home, but bought this for the kitchen. The screen is a more usable size. The speaker quality is good. The shape is odd and don't know why they do that. The biggest strike is the bamboo posterior, but I keep it against a wall. Google Assistant works well, better than Alexa. Sales happen often.

Sound :
I bought this because I am a sucker for Lenovo. Overall this is meant to be used as an intercom/organizer rather than a Alexa Show. The audio is alright but understanding that its for notifications and smart devices.
Ease of use :
Its really easy to setup. Download your 'Google Home App' and follow the instructions. Once you get it all connected you can change the settings easily. In comparison to Alexa app, the google app is easier to change settings.
If for some reason you need to reset the device its really easy to do. I am sure they figure a lot of people may be needing to 'Factory Reset' the device.
Design/Display:
Its a very nice display and has really cool design to it. It has a light gray fabric to it with the Lenovo tag. Its not so bulky like the Echo Show 8

Loved this product so much I went back to buy a second one the next day. I'm a visual person and nothing is better to me than asking a question and not only hearing the answer but seeing it as well. I have 4 Google homes in my apartment the original the mini and now two Lenovo smart displays. I feel like to get the whole experience you have to be subcribed to you tube premium which includes Google play music. The speakers are very good I like them better than my Google home. Definitely recommend this product. Also the 8" I think is ideal without looking too large in any space .

I have had the display running for a few weeks and it is working fairly well. Pictures are crisp and display well. Although, In order to view your own photos in "ambient" mode, the photos need be in in Google "favorites" folder. I can select other folders, but they do not show. Hopefully this will be addressed. The sound from the display is good for small speakers. I have created a speaker group through the Lenovo with two other wireless speakers for a wider sound. I use this speaker group as the default on the Lenovo. However, I have only been able to play Pandora through all the speakers of the speaker group. When I connect to the Lenovo via blue tooth to play the stored music on my tablet, I only get music through the display speaker and not the speaker group. I'm not sure if it is the display or the Google Home software. Have a post on Lenovo's forum, but no resolution yet. Overall, I like the display and it seems to be performing well.

I love the lenovo smart display. I purchased this instead of the google home hub because it is bigger by 1" and at the time of purchasing was about $100 less. Works great with the Google assistant and Google ecosystem. The downside is that there isn't much instruction on how to actually use it other than the initial setup. If you are using the Google home app as I am, swiping down on the screen will bring up a quick menu for accessing smart lights and speakers such as Google home minis or media devices such as chromecasts in your home. It took me forever to figure out how to access my smart lights and was frustrated to keep having to ask the Google assistant to show me my home controls. With that said it's a great product, the screen is very crisp and the speaker sounds great. You can also place it vertical for video chatting on the duo app. I have this product in my kitchen and it is useful for looking up the weather, recipes or video chatting as I'm cooking.
