Customers are satisfied with the Legion Y530's performance, design, ample RAM, and graphics card, finding it suitable for gaming and other demanding tasks at a reasonable price. However, some users experienced issues with battery life, hard drive reliability, and overheating, while others noted concerns about the screen and webcam placement. Many felt the machine offered excellent value for its price point. The laptop's weight was also frequently praised as being surprisingly light.

Lenovo Legion Y530 (81FV0002US)
Setup/Testing/Conclusion
The Lenovo Legion Y530 (81FV0002US). Packed with an Intel i7 8750H, 16GB DDR4 2666 memory, 16GB Intel Optane Memory, and an Nvidia 4GB GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Let’s go ahead and dive right in and see how this Gaming Laptop performs.
Right off the bat, the Intel i7 8750H is an excellent CPU. You’re looking at the successor to the widely popular Intel i7 7700HQ which is what was used a lot in previous gaming laptops. With the Intel i7 8750H, you’re going to be getting about a 10% increase in single core performance and about a 15 ~ 25% increase in multi-core performance. The Nvidia 4GB GeForce GTX 1050 Ti isn’t the fastest nor is it considered a “high end” GPU, but it’s definitely considered as one of the best (if not the best) budget GPU. So before I even ran any games, my expectations weren’t going to be through the roof as I know it won’t perform like my desktop which contains an Intel i7-8700 and a GTX 1070. I mean we’re looking at a budget gaming rig here, not a top of the line gaming beast. So now that we got that out the way, let’s go ahead and see what this combo brings to the table.
CS:GO - 140 FPS
Tom Clancy’s The Division - 60 FPS
Battlefield 1 - 60 FPS
GTA V - 55 FPS
Diablo 3 - 95 FPS
As expected, this specific Lenovo Legion Y530 (81FV0002US) performs quite well. As mentioned previously, it’s not going to be the fastest out there; but it’s definitely not the slowest. So if you’re looking to play everything on ultra presets and expect incredible frames per second, I would probably invest in a pretty high end gaming rig. If you’re looking to play games on low/medium ~ high presets (Nvidia Recommended Settings), you’ll be just fine with this specific Lenovo Legion Y530. AAA titles will always demand a high performance machine. But with a gaming laptop, you’ll be able to bring it around with ease compared to a gaming desktop.
With the Legion Y530, I didn’t have a problem taking it around. Because of it’s subtle and sleek design, it doesn’t scream “GAMING”; yet it doesn’t look like an ordinary laptop. I personally enjoy the black design and look of the laptop. Although the Y530 is made majority of plastic, it's still quite durable and still looks good. Lenovo changed the backlit keyboard from red to white which looks a lot better. The bezels around the screen (left, top, and right) are also quite thin compared to the last years model. Because of the thin bezel change, the webcam was moved to below the screen. So if you plan on using the webcam, be prepared to show off your nose and in addition to the other party seeing your knuckles a lot if you're typing. But, I’ll definitely make that trade any day; smaller bezels vs having the camera at the top. If you currently own the last year’s model, you’ll also notice that a lot of the ports have been placed in the back of the laptop. You’ll still have access to a USB 3.1 port on either side of the laptop. The reason for this is so that it offers better cooling. Overall, the thermals on the Y530 is pretty good under normal usage. During my gaming session it does get warm but what gaming laptop doesn’t? I did see temps hit around 95c (MAX) but the fans would ramp up and keep the temps under control. The fans aren’t silent but they aren’t super loud either; I would classify the fan noise as expected/average. When it comes to the picture/screen quality, I wasn’t as impressed. I wished it was a bit brighter and the color reproduction was better. So if you were to use the Y530 in a more lit environment, you may have some difficulty viewing the screen. The 52.5Wh 3-cell lithium ion battery will last about 4 hours with general usage which is typically expected with these type of setups. But if you game on it, the battery will last about 1 ~ 1.5 hours. So be prepared to bring your charger with you!
Here are a couple breakdown of pros and cons that I would like to mention as my own opinion:
Pros:
Very sleek at subtle design
No bloatware
Solid all around good performance
Fan control
Cons:
Display (not as bright as others and color reproduction isn’t as good)
Why GTX 1050 Ti? Would've liked to see at least a 1060 as Lenovo did an excellent job on the chassis. Lenovo also offers a 144Hz screen so it only makes sense to have a more powerful GPU…
Wished battery lasted longer
In conclusion, this Lenovo Legion Y530 has pretty good all around performance. I didn’t experience any frame rate drops during gaming. My settings on average were around low/medium ~ high (Nvidia Presets/Recommended). I would’ve liked to see Lenovo release all Legion Y530 with a GTX 1060 and a SSD by default (as this specific model comes with a traditional mechanical hard drive and Intel Optane Memory). I know they have other models but from what I could find; GTX 1050 Ti is all they have currently. Overall, I would give this specific model a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars. Lenovo did do an excellent job by ditching the red and making the Legion Y530 very sleek (excellent redesign Lenovo!). Where it falls short on this specific model is with the GTX 1050 Ti and the picture/screen quality. Although this specific model didn’t come with an SSD, the Intel Optane Memory did in fact help with boot/load times. This specific Lenovo Legion Y530 is definitely worth being stated as an excellent budget gaming laptop. If you’re able to get the one with an SSD, I’m sure it’ll be even faster. Overall, thoroughly impressed with the this Lenovo Legion Y530 (81FV0002US).

For a computer in the general $1k range (or under for open box and sale prices) this computer is about the best you can get. While it would be nice to have the GTX 1060, the 1050 Ti combined with the processor and memory prove to be very potent. While the most up to date and demanding games will struggle on their highest graphical settings, more modest settings or high settings on other games will run extremely smoothly on this machine.
Mix that with the impressive design - not a cheap plastic looking, overwrought gaming laptop design, but rather a more professional and sleek look that has impressed everyone that has seen it, this computer is an excellent buy at this price point.

This should be a zero star rating. I hardly ever write reviews for online shopping, but for the interests of other potential customers I would share my horrible experience this laptop.
I have already had four blue screen crashes, one depot repair service to Lenovo repair center, and new crashes after the depot repair in the first three months and half with this laptop. For three times, the laptop would go into sleep mode, and never wake up. After forced shutdown, Windows OS would not load. This is a recurrent problem even after the depot repair. My laptop crashed on Monday Dec 17 2018 again, and I'm waiting for an on-site technician to come fix it. I have wasted so many hours on talking to Lenovo support hotline, and many more hours not being able to do my work. I don't even play any games, and I only use this laptop for statistical computing, which should be much less demanding tasks. This laptop is making me question Windows machine altogether. At this point, I'm even too afraid to buy another Windows machine. Maybe it's time for me to stomach the loss and move on.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with restoring the Windows 10 operating system on your Lenovo Legion Y530 laptop. This configuration ships with 16GB of Intel Optane Memory, which has an image of the Windows 10 operating system for quick boot up and fast recall of the most used files and programs by the specific user. To restore Windows 10 operating system to original operating system, you must first turn off Optane Memory. To restore system, Optane must be disabled first in the BIOS o Power down system, power back on and press F2 to enter BIOS setup o BIOS setup > Configuration > Storage > Intel® Rapid Storage technology > Intel Optane, 931.5GB > Disable > Are you sure you want to disable > Yes > Disable o Wait for 3 minutes o The Disable process should be finished and there will be (2) non-RAID physical disks o Press F10 to Save and Exit - The system should now be able to be Restored - After restoring, you will need to open the Optane UI from the task bar and choose Setup > Enable > Select “Erase all data on Intel “Optane” memory module > Continue > Restart. Now you can restore the Windows 10 operating system to factory original settings by following the instructions at this link: https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/reset-windows-10-pc. Be sure to re-enable the Optane Memory after you restore the system, then restart the device, as listed above. If you continue to have an issue, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686.

Well-balanced gaming laptop with great design

======= Summary =======
The Legion Y530 is a well-designed and performant laptop with quality and well-balanced components. The build is great, the thin-bezel display is awesome, the system is speedy, and it is a pleasure to use everyday. With its easy upgradeability, the Y530 will offer many years of service for most people.
*Pro's:
1. Thin display bezels.
2. Relatively light and thin for a gaming laptop.
3. Excellent keyboard and touchpad.
4. Good design & build quality (despite being plastic).
5. Good selection of ports.
6. Decent gaming performance thanks to the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU.
7. 16GB RAM & Intel Optane --> fast performance.
8. Easy access to internals for system upgrade.
9. Minimal amount of bloatware. Easily removable.
10. Great cooling design.
*Con's:
1. No Thunderbolt 3.
======= Design & Build Quality =======
For a gaming laptop at this price point, the Legion Y530 is relatively light (~5 lbs) and pretty thin, even good for students and other portable users.
The laptop is all black and looks like a serious machine - no blingy accent lights with flamboyant design curves and lines. I appreciate the toned-down design and subtlety.
The parts of the laptop that you interact with the most feel nice despite being made of all plastic. The lid has a nice texture and radial pattern to it that makes the Legion look and feel different from other typical plastic laptops. Stains are easily resisted and cleaning up is simple and quick. The glowing white LED that illuminates the "Y" symbol inside the letter O is also very cool without being garish.
The hinge is well-designed and enables one to easily open the lid with just one finger. It is also firm & sturdy and holds up the screen very well.
Also nice is the soft-touch keyboard base, the smooth touchpad, and the textured touchpad buttons. The keyboard buttons with their "just-right" travel distance and responsiveness lead to comfortable typing and gaming experiences. The keyboard has white LED backlighting with two different brightness levels (FN + Spacebar to toggle between Brightness Level 1, Level 2, and Off). I LOVE that the backlighting doesn't turn off automatically after some idle time (Acer take note~!).
Despite lacking aluminum and not being "premium", I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10 for design & build quality.
======= Display =======
The 1920x1080 Full HD 15.6" matte display, surrounded by those thin bezels, is quite nice. At normal viewing distance, everything is crispy and clear. For general-purpose web viewing and gaming, the display is perfectly adequate and appropriate. It doesn't get very bright at 250 nits but I'm satisfied.
I LOVE how I can lift the lid with just one finger and how the display can be pushed back up to 180 degrees.
======= Speakers =======
The speakers sound nice and full with its Harman Kardon speakers with Dolby Audio tuning. Compared to skinny ultrabooks, such as my HP Spectre 13, the Legion Y530's speakers sound louder, fuller, more dynamic, and has a wider soundstage. Bass, of course, is weak but that is to be expected from a laptop. Listening to music and playing games was more than satisfactory and enjoyable.
======= Network & Connectivity Options =======
The Legion Y530 comes equipped with the Realtek PCI Express Gigabit ethernet and the excellent Intel Wireless-AC 9560 802.11AC Gigabit Wifi. Also included in the Intel package is Bluetooth 5.0 which is forward-looking and up-to-date. I experienced no connectivity or connection speed issues. Everything was peachy.
======= Ports =======
A healthy number and type of ports are offered - 3x USB 3.1 Type A, 1x USB Type C Gen 1, 1x ethernet, 1x HDMI, and 1x mini-Display port. The ports suit my needs perfectly and I have no complaints. For my personal usage, not having a Thunderbolt port is not a loss.
======= Performance =======
The performance of the Legion Y530 is excellent due to its quality and well-balanced components (Intel Core i7 8th-Gen Coffee Lake CPU with 6 Cores, 16GB DDR4-2666 RAM, 1TB Seagate 7200RPM HDD, 16GB Intel Optane Memory, and nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB).
Windows 10 boots up relatively fast despite having a spinning HDD (thanks to Intel Optane Memory), programs install and load very quickly, and there is no jankiness or lag. It is AMAZING how much of a performance difference that stick of Intel Optane Memory makes in really speeding up the system and smoothing everything out.
Even when compared to my HP Spectre 13 with a faster 1TB Samsung 960 Evo PCI-E SSD, the Legion Y530 boots up almost as fast and loads my apps very quickly. Intel Optane is no marketing gimmick - it works as advertised and makes a very noticeable difference in system responsiveness and speed. Thanks to Intel Optane, I personally don't see a need to upgrade to a SSD drive - at least not for a while.
Wit 16GB of RAM, I naturally had no issues at multitasking - Google Chrome (~25 tabs), Word, YouTube, background file transfers and downloads. Only one scenario introduced a little bit of lag and that was when I was doing the following: Chrome brower with about 10 tabs, Steam client downloading 3 games in the background, and torrenting 3 files (each with about 5 GB in size). Still not bad for a system without a SSD drive.
Gaming is executed smoothly as long as you don't crank up all the in-game settings to Very High or Ultra (dependent on the game, of course). In order to experience the full potential of the Legion Y530, one has to be plugged in and change the Power Options to "High Performance" inside the Windows Mobility Center. Otherwise, games don't run very well, especially on just battery power. Besides, the battery would quickly run down to empty in about an hour anyways without the charger.
I mainly played 3 games on the Legion - Far Cry 5 (2018), Deus Ex Mankind Divided (2016), and Rise of the Tomb Raider (2016). The Rise of the Tomb Raider ran the best and allowed me to turn on most of the graphics settings to High and still average above 48 frames per second.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided was much harder on the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. In order to get smooth frames, I had to lower the quality settings quite a bit to this:
-Texture Quality: Low
-Texture Filtering: Off
-Shadow Quality: Medium
-Contact Hardening Shadows: Off
-Temporal Anti-Aliasing: Off
-Motion Blur: On
-Depth of Field: Off
-Bloom: Off
-Volumetric Lighting: Off
-Subsurface Scattering: Off
-Sharpen: On
Playing Far Cry 5 was a lot better and I was able to play smoothly with these settings:
-Texture Filtering: High
-Shadows: Normal
-Geometry & Vegetation: Normal
-Environment: Normal
-Water: Normal
-Terrain: Normal
-Volumetric Fog: Low
-Anti-aliasing: Off
-Motion Blur: On
On Geekbench 4.2.3, the Y530 scored 4664 Single-core and 15,197 Multi-core. It performed better than my Samsung Notebook 9 Pro with an Intel Core i7 7500U dual-core CPU (4189 Single-core, 8503 Multi-core) and my HP Spectre 13 with an Intel Core i7 8550U 4-core CPU (4666 Single-core, 12,051 Multi-core).
======= Keyboard & TouchPad =======
As mentioned earlier, both the keyboard and touchpad on the Legion Y530 are excellent. The keys have good travel distance, are responsive, and very comfortable for long-term typing and gaming. I also LOVE the full-sized Arrow Keys and the spacious Number Pad area. My only slight gripe is not having dedicated PgUp & PgDn buttons (you have to use the Fn + Arrow Keys).
The Touchpad is accurate and responsive to use thanks to Microsoft's Precision driver. Setting up custom touchpad gestures is easy and it works very well. The touchpad buttons make a clickity sound but not to the point of being annoying.
I rate both of them 10 out of 10.
======= Battery Life =======
For a gaming laptop, the battery life I experienced has been excellent. When I'm just browsing the web and not gaming, I can get about 4 to 5 hours of battery life at 70 to 80% brightness. During gaming, however, it will last just about 1 hour.
======= Software =======
The Legion Y530 comes with a minimal amout of bloatware. I counted 3 Lenovo apps, 5 third-party games, and some Microsoft apps such as Xbox and Skype. Compared to other manufacturers' bloatware (e.g., Dell, HP), the Legion Y530 comes packed pretty clean. Windows 10 was at version 1709 and I updated to the latest 1803 Build 17134.191 without a hitch.
======= Upgradeability =======
The Legion Y530 offers several options for future component upgrades - DDR4 memory, SATA3 hard drive (HDD or SSD), Wifi module, and PCI-Express NVME M.2 2280 SSD hard drive. To upgrade, one removes 11 Philips screws from the bottom of the laptop and pop off the bottom cover. The bottom cover is held on by numerous plastic tabs so be gentle when popping the cover off to not break them.
======= My Verdict =======
The Legion Y530 offers a good value, entry-level gaming experience with a great design, slim-bezel display, awesome keyboard and touchpad, great audio, and very decent hardware (6-core Intel Core i7, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GPU). It is a well-balanced and harmonius design that is durable, portable, highly performant, and upgradeable. I rate it 4.5 out of 5 and recommend it without hesitation.

The Legion is an amazingly fast Gaming laptop.
Boot time from a cold start is in the 20 second range, Thanks to a new Hybrid SSD/HDD drive.
This setup is great for fast starts. The OS sits on the SSD side and everything else goes to the HDD.
This added with 16 GB of Ram (DDR4 SDRAM 2666mghz) an NVidia GTX 1050ti card and an I7-8750 6 core chip is just what the gamer/video or photographer needs to have a fast work flow or a lag free gaming experience.
The onboard Intel video cards handles everyday tasks but when needed it hands the job over to the capable NVidia card. This is a great heat reducer as most applications are not graphically intensive, this also saves battery power when unplugged. (Battery is good for about 5 hrs. of standard use but gaming greatly reduces this time) Harmon Kardon speakers are adequate but most gamers will opt for a head set or external speakers. The unit weighs in at 5 lbs and has 1 headphone jack, 3 USB, 1 HDMI, and 1 usb Type C. No DVD.
If you are on the line as to which Y530 Legion to get. This one is a no brainer. For a minute amount of money this system is twice as good as the 8 GB version. Hands down!
The Monitor measures 15.6 and is pretty good but could be better. It has a Matte type screen and sometimes the colors seem muted but crisp none the less.
The case itself is designed very well. The case fans for the unit are located on the bottom of the laptop and are massive. For the most part are quiet but a little noticeable when stressing the unit as they come on. Not bad by any means at all. The Lid is strong enough to protect the screen but do not try to lift the laptop or move it by grabbing the lid as this may harm you monitor (use common sense)
The software loaded (that I consider bloat ware) was really nonexistent. I uninstalled the MacAfee for my own virus protection and in the menu just unpinned some of the “free games” that were linked and that was basically it. Kudos to Lenovo for this. Some competitors bog down their drives and take quite a bit of tweaking to remove junk.
I ran a Sandra lite stress test/Benchmark on it to see how the components would hold up and all performed as advertised. No issues what so ever:
The results were a #15 local ranking with excellent performance results and a score of 28.18.
Passmark complete bench test results:
Overall Score was 5088.4 and was in the 92nd Percentile (WOW) to put this into perspective the world average score was 2526.
And finally used Novabench and the findings were:
Overall score was a 2358 which again was in the top tier percentile (96th for cpu and 79th for GPU) When compared to a high end gaming PC it came in at 20% better for CPU and 31%lower for the GPU (not a deal breaker as high end PC systems have 3 or 4 generations high cards.)
From the website systemrequirements.com I tested it on the following games:
Fortnite, GTA V, Overwatch, Mincraft, etc and found that this laptop would play these games without issue. To be fair I also checked the following games which are extremely graphically intensive: Playerunknowns Battlegrounds, Monster hunter world, Battlefield 1, Far cry 5 and the test came back with warning that these games may need turned down to work without issue as this system didn’t have the requirements of at least a 1060 card (this machine has a 1050)
I installed my copy of Castle Wolfenstein 2 and ran it at the highest level and I was extremely impressed with the performance. I did not experience any lag what so ever. The Processor, ram and drive performed great for an enjoyable gaming time.
In closing as mentioned above I would go the extra money and get this model as it is so much more capable of a gamer machine. I would definitely recommend this to family and friends!!

Finally, Power and Portability in a Gaming Laptop

Design:
The Lenovo Legion Y530 is a powerful laptop with a sleek design. This is my first gaming laptop, mostly because I had not found a good hybrid between gaming power and portability until now. I find it to be just thin and light enough to consider it portable, which is great because I am on the go quite often. Although color scheme is not a priority of mine, I like the subtle black exterior with a white illuminated keyboard and logo on the lid. Most of the ports are on the back of the laptop, the impressively effective cooling fans are underneath, and the power button is in the middle above the keyboard. Typing and using the various keys on the keyboard is easy thanks to the sufficient spacing and key size. My only complaint is that the touchpad feels a bit awkward to use due to the location, size, and left/right click buttons instead of a touchpad that clicks down, but that feeling has improved as I have gotten used to it. However, while at home, I prefer to use a mouse. Overall, I think the Lenovo Legion Y530 is a well-designed laptop.
Features:
The speakers are good, but I have heard better quality sound on several other similar laptops. If you usually use headphones, this may not matter much, but I was expecting better sound quality, especially since it is highlighted as a feature of this Lenovo Legion Y530. The HD webcam is very clear, so I have no complaints there. Since this is a gaming laptop, there is plenty of memory, a powerful processor, and great graphics on a beautiful display. Even standard use, such as browsing the internet or watching videos, is enjoyable due to the speed and quality of the content displayed on the screen.
Gaming:
With great graphics and lots of processing power, gaming sessions on this laptop are fantastic. I have experienced nothing but smooth gameplay, and I am impressed by the graphics on all the games that I have played. Connecting to Wi-Fi was a breeze, and the connection has always remained stable and fast during online gameplay. As a longtime gamer, I am impressed and would definitely recommend this laptop to fellow gamers.
Verdict:
The Lenovo Legion Y530 is the perfect blend of power and portability for gaming and everyday use. As opposed to other gaming laptops with flashy designs and colors, I like the subtlety and sleekness of this laptop. Processing power is not compromised due to the compact design, and my gaming sessions have not disappointed. Although it is not perfect in every way, if you are looking for a gaming laptop that is also great for everyday use, then look no further. I recommend the Lenovo Legion Y530 to others with confidence.

I’ve had this computer for about 2 months now, and, overall, I’ve been quite satisfied with my purchase. There are always pros and cons, however, so I thought I’d go into them for people who are interested. Disclaimer: I am a graduate student who runs ArcGis Pro, R (data modeling), and some other pretty intense statistical programs and datasets , and I also game, so I’ve definitely tested the performance of this computer.
Overall design:
Keyboard: Easily my favorite part about the Lenovo Legion. The keyboard is a dream to type on. I haven’t noticed a substantial degree of flex, and find the keys to be slightly more tactile than your average laptop (which is a plus for me). It’s quite comfortable to game on, as well. I also love the inclusion of the full sized keyboard with the number pad. I do a lot of data entry in school, so it really helps in that regard. I really like how you can easily turn off the backlighting, or switch to a lower lumosity if you want to conserve battery life. It’s also nice that the backlightning is white instead of RGB, at least as someone who is mainly using this in a professional setting. Really, I have no complaints about the keyboard. 5/5
Port location and type: I use a LOT of USB devices, and I’ve yet to feel like I’m in need of more ports. You can read the product description to see what is specifically included, but there’s a little something for everyone. What’s really been great is that the ports are mainly located on the back of the computer, which has been extremely helpful for cable management. There are your standard USB ports and headphone jack on the side of the computer, however, which just adds another dimension of accessibility and ease. 5/5
Touchpad: Very responsive. Love the inclusion of the two buttons as opposed to a singular one, or just a touchpad. 5/5
Fan system: this is probably my biggest gripe about the computer. The Legion runs extremely hot, especially when running intense programs (which is to be expected). You will probably want to buy a fan for the computer to keep internal temperatures down and direct airflow. Also, the fans on this model are soooo loud; at least compared to what I’m used to (acer chromebook). You will definitely know when they go on. I wish it was quieter and circulated air a bit better. 3/5
Screen: leaves a little to be desired, but not substantially. I never feel like I need to strain my eyes, or feel like I’m really missing out on the graphics of the games I’m running. It’s also pretty comfortable to watch Netflix on, and the screen is quite bright when you turn it up to its maximum. I’d give it a 4/5 because the image could absolutely be sharper, and there’s a little bit of flex to it.
Overall design: I love the muted, simple look of this computer. The entire thing is black, with the Lenovo legion icon lighting up in white on the front of the computer when in use (which actually looks quite nice). If you like the standard gaming laptop that’s red and intense, with scary words like “Predator” or “Helios” that’s cool; something of them are pretty rad. But, for someone who is using a computer in a professional setting, yet still needs the power of a gaming laptop, this is an awesome selection. Looks very modern. One thing worth nothing is that the front, despite not being a smooth surface (there’s some texture to it), scratches very easily, so you might want to consider getting a case for travel. I got a massive scratch within the first week while I was waiting for my case to arrive despite my efforts to be extra careful, so that was quite disappointing. It would be nice to have something a little more durable since this is sort of marketed as a portable gaming rig. Overall, 4/5.
Battery life: you need to understand that you’re buying a gaming laptop, so it’s just not going to have the battery life of a chromebook that has less intensive specs. For what this computer is, I’ve found the battery life to be pretty solid. If you run it with the battery conservation mode on, and your backlighting for the keyboard off, you’re looking at 5-7 hours between charges, which is pretty decent given the components of the computer. The actual charger is also not as heavy as what’s to be expected with this sort of computer, so that’s a plus. I’d give it 4/5, as I do wish I could have the screen just a little bit brighter without dipping into my 5-7 hours.
Performance: this thing is a beast; you’re getting a slew of great specs for one heck of a price. I got the student discount, so I got like $100 off the retail price (I think my total wa alike $990 with tax), but even if I had to pay full price, I would for this computer. I think it is easily the best gaming computer in this price point. Yes, some of the Dell gaming series have slightly better specs, but the screens on those computers are terrible, so can you really enjoy the improved performance for gaming and work? (I can’t speak to their battery life or something else because I only tested out those models in the store and haven’t owned them, but the screen was pretty bad, as was the keyboard). Ultimately, that’s a decision you have to make, but if you’re worried about the differences in specs, I really can’t complain about anything performance related. Boot time is very quick, my programs run quickly, Overwatch runs like a dream on pretty good settings. I can also add an SSD to make it even better, but right now I’m really not even feeling a need to (which is great, because I was initially a little turned off by the hybrid drive). Yes, you could have better specs, but you will have to pay much more to get them, most of which you can attain for this computer simply by upgrading it yourself for cheaper (aside from the graphics card, but I’ve been pretty satisfied with the 1050 ti). 5/5 for performance.
It’s worth noting that, when I upgraded Windows 10 on here, the drivers were somehow affected and my keyboard and touchpad stopped working. This is the fault of Windows 10 and not the computer, but I did have to take it into a repair shop to get it fixed. Something to keep in mind if you’ve never used windows before, or have clung to Windows 8 and are looking at upgrading.
Overall, really love this computer. It’s great for students, professionals, gamers, or, if you’re like me, all three! Definitely check it out.

Thank you for choosing the lenovo Legion Y530 laptop. This is a high performance system with its Six-Core/Twelve-Thread Intel Core i7-8750H processor, 16GB of RAM and 16GB of Intel Optane Memory supporting the 1TB 7200RPM standard hard drive. It will generate heat whenever it is turned on, even at idle, this is normal. The onboard fan will maintain the proper operating temperature for the device. You will hear the fan whenever it runs, this too is normal. But the Legion Y530 provides even more, It features a dual-channel thermal system, offering multiple benefits: individual CPU and GPU cooling, for cooler system temperatures; four thermal vents, for improved airflow; and 70 individual fan blades per channel, to reduce system noise. Regarding the screen on this model, it is an IPS, anti-glare, 1920 x 1080 (FHD) resolution screen, with 300 nits brightness. Regarding updates, Windows 10 in particular, always try to create a restore point prior to allowing the update. That way if there is a problem, you can revert back to before the update, wait for the update glitch to be fixed, then reinstall the update. Additionally, you can use the Lenovo Utility software installed on this device to help maintain all updates. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. If the issue still continues after these updates, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686 for additional help.

I bought this laptop because of the processor, amount of ram and the 1050ti. I primarily needed it to run a poorly optimized game as smoothly as my desktop does for a show case. The game ran between 75 to 90 frames per second so it accomplished what I needed.
After the show case, I decided to make this my primary laptop to develop games on when I am not able to sit down at my desktop and this is where the problems started. To start, I could not get any software to install as I did not have admin rights. I am the only account and user on this laptop. The boot drive failed and I had to reinstall Windows after two weeks. After the install was completed, everything seemed fine until yesterday. After 4 months a and a week, the hard drive has failed again and will not boot. I ran through the process and spent two days and multiple phone calls before Lenovo has agreed to services the product still under warranty.
Upon further research, there are many people that have hard drive problems with this model. Buyer beware!

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues resetting Windows 10 back to original settings. This model has Intel Optane Memory installed. If you know how to fix them.
I see a lot of reviews of people that have Hard Disk errors with this laptop and I started expecting them too.
I blame the Intel Optane Caching feature I thinks there is a serious bug/flaw in the functionality that causes these problems. All it need is to crash once to see OS corruption and I believe the crash itself is being caused by the Intel driver. You can go to the event viewer and you will see all the errors about missing and corrupted files.
In my case I really didn’t even want an HDD so I went ahead and upgraded the laptop with a 1TB Samsung 960 Pro to replace the HDD and a 512 GB Samsung 970 nvme to replace the optane memory.
The 1TB SSD is the boot drive /applications and the 512GB nvme is for games and application that need higher performance.
No problems of crashing and corruption ever since I replaced the Optane +HDD system.
So hopefully Intel and Lenovo can fix the problem affecting this laptop with the Optane+HDD setup.
Lenovo laptops at least the thinkpad series are very solid and this one feels like it.
As far as games I play COD and Fortnite currently and this laptop runs them well.
Battery life is abysmal though and I feel like the switchable graphics logic is flawed as even when using battery optimization mode it still uses the nvidia gpu instead of the Intel and I haven’t yet found a way of just disabling the nvidia when I really don’t need gpu acceleration.
I also think the charger could be under spec’ed for the laptop as if you are doing heavy gaming you can see that the battery gets depleted a bit even when plugged in.
The display looks amazing and the ports on the back of the laptop are very convenient, just like having a docking station.

Lenovo - Legion Y530 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti - 1TB Hard Drive - Black
Pros = Excellent hardware minus the 5600rpm SD harddrive this laptop runs most demanding games @ low to med settings without affecting performance . Has recommended specs to run Oculus Rift & Oculus Rift S will run most VR games @ med to high settings depending how demanding the game is even demanding games low settings. The 1050TI is the sweet spot for running most games without breaking the bank with the 1060 GTX the price really skyrockets however I was able to pick this up on an open box deal for $570 which was a steal for the hardware it had in it.
Cons = The housing of the laptop is plastic & seems cheap and theres nothing you can do to fix that. The monitor is 15' @ 60Hz so if gaming online against opponents you have to put your face pretty close to the screen to see if your looking at something far away you will notice delay and the color is washed out you might be able to adjust some setting for color improvement but the screen is cheap. I did some benchtest @ 1080P high settings it was way below average 15-30 FPS not good to today standards but it never did crash so it did ok. Im going to benchtest The Shadow of the Tomb Raider I wanna see how it does that will be the real test. There is no SSD hd you get one standard SD 5600 rpm HD for games & windows 10 and it is really really slow it takes way to long to boot up and games take forever to load & you cant open multiple icons or programs at once I will be upgrading that soon. The keyboard seems very cheap but the lighting is a cool feature I just use my Corsair keyboard if Im going to play Battlefield 4 online I would not trust that keyboard for hardcore gaming & not breaking Im hard on keyboards . I would recommend buying a good cooling pad it gets pretty hot the laptop comes with duel intake fans on the bottom so with the cooling pad it still ran @ 57 celsius while running somewhat demanding games converted thats 134 fahrenheit warmer then I want it. Overall good hardware for the money I paid if you price the hardware that it has you will be paying $800 or more and Im pretty happy with it I took off two stars for the plastic housing of the laptop and the cheap monitor. I would not pay more for this laptop if you want to pay good money and get the performance go with the 1060 GTX , 17' screen for $300 - $400 more.

I bought this computer on sale for $780 plus taxes, it's a great buy, it has the latest i7 processor 16 gb ram, 16 gb SSD, 1 TB HDD and most important the nVidia 1050 Ti, if you compare with others a computer with similar specifications will be around $1200. I use the computer with software for architecture and it works very fast, compared to my previous i7 5 years old. The computer is a little heavier, but it's worth for having the technical specifications that I needed to get the work done.

A good looking laptop with a nice case design. Very powerful for it's weight but don't expect much battery life under a substantial work load ( maybe 6 hrs.). Fast boot up and didn't come with much bloatware. I'm playing AC Odyssey on it and getting 50FPS at mid/high settings. Weirdly, when I ran the benchmark for the game it struggled to reach 12FPS like it didn't recognize the v- card. Luckily I ignored that and I'm having no problems in game (windowed).

I only play games sparingly and mainly use it for work and study so it performs well in those areas, however when i have some spare time and want to load up a round of apex legends or Fortnite, call of duty or World of Warcraft it does so with ease at max settings. I plan to add an ssd to it just to boost load times and boot time, not that it’s slow now but coming from an ssd on my desktop you really notice the difference between a few seconds. Overall a good buy if you want a solid all around laptop under 1k.

The hardware in this computer makes it an excellent choice. I have had Lenovo laptops in the past and I get more life out of them then I do with other brands. The only other exception to this would be ASUS. Their computers seem to last a long time too. Both brands seem to have the best hardware installed. Other laptops tend to last me and my family about two or three years before something breaks. I have owned several different brands. This Laptop replaced a Lenovo I had for over 5 years. The laptop I replaced still works fine. I refurbished it and passed it on to someone else.
I got this laptop because I needed more power. This is not the Laptop I originally wanted but it turned out to be the one I needed. I ran into trouble after about two weeks with this laptop. A Microsoft Windows update slowed down the laptop, and at times I had a hard time booting up the machine. The machine also locked up. That is the only reason for the four stars, otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.
I went to Lenovo's site and in the support section, I found the help I needed. After giving permission the website detected the laptop model. It did a driver update and a bios update. Everything was automated so there was no technical procedure on my part. It fixed everything and now the laptop works fine. It has a lot of power under the hood and it does everything I need it to do with ease and power to spare. The customer service apps built into their websites did all the work.
If you purchase this laptop go to Lenovo's site and get all the driver updates. The drivers I had when I purchased it new were over a year old and the bios program was older too. You should probably do that with any new computer you buy to avoid trouble. Now I have had this thing for a little over a month and I am happy with it. It does the job I need to do with no glitches or problems.

Used the product for a month now, has served me great till now. Good performance for the price point. Got it for $950 (because of student discount): the i7 and 16GB model. Only downside is that this laptop didn't have a model with the GTX1060 card. There is one available room now in the official Lenovo website. Best buy doesn't sell that model yet, but don't bother looking at it if you are in a budget constraint as you need to shell out $500 more if you want that :O A few other quirks: out of the box the laptop runs hot when gaming, but undervolting it to around -175mV solves that; the fans are pretty loud and they randomly come on sometimes even when the laptop is idle. Overall, I am happy with my decision to go with this. The only competitor which comes close to this is the Dell g5, because it come in a similar configuration and with a GTX 1060 if you shell out just $100 more. But I've heard the display is pathetic and it's obviously uglier then the y530!

Good computer for its price range. The design makes if feel expensive. Tip, replace the slow hdd with a fast ssd for 70 to 200 bucks. Super easy to install and makes a world of a difference. However I don't thunk the intel optane memory works perfectly with mine, but you would have to do more research

great build - Fn keys are useful - key travel is very good - backlit keyboard is a nice feature even if you use your laptop in a well-lit area - runs smoothly from one program to another and games have no lag time (intel i7 processor, 16g RAM & Nvidia GTX1050 graphics card) - the camera is located at the bottom of the screen which doesn't bother me but if you are someone who video chats frequently this positioning will not give you the best angle - the 1 issue i have with this laptop is the trackpad, needs to be bigger and quieter (the clicking noise will get annoying if you are having to click continually) - overall this is a great laptop and if you don't find it capable of handling the task you perform on the computer then you will need to spend a lot more to upgrade to either an i9 processor or higer Nvidia GeForce graphics card - i realize that spending approx $1100 US for a laptop in today's market isn't out of the ordinary but i still thik when you spend this much on an electronic item it should last you for a quite some time and not be something that you have to consider upgrading in 2-3 years --- i intend on keeping this laptop for a number of years - i definately feel it is worth the price

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Legion Y530 laptop. With regard to the touchpad, you can make adjustments to the touchpad in your system settings. You can get there by clicking on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your Windows 10 screen. Type "touchpad" in the search window. Select "Mouse & touchpad settings" from the list of choices. You can make general adjustments to the touchpad there. You can also select "Additional mouse options" for more detailed adjustments to the touchpad sensitivity by increasing the delay of the touchpad. Was very disappointed in this laptop 4 months in. It utilized a 1tb hard drive with a 16gb intel cache drive (basically a hybrid drive in two parts). Became very slow and unresponsive until factory reset. Removed the two drives, dropped a 1tb sata ssd in and worked good then. I paid about 1300 and in hindsight, that was about 500 bucks too much. 1050ti is decent video card, but was two generations old, hdd with ssd cache drive became unbearable. Gets very hot while gaming unless you elevate the rear, but that's kind of common on gaming laptops so I probably shouldn't be too hard on it for that.
