Would be 5 stars but for wifi card issues

Overall, excellent laptop.
PROS:
- VERY light (about 2.6 lbs., if I recall correctly), yet good screen size (13.4");
- backlit keyboard;
- decent memory (8GB) and storage (256GB SSID);
- keys are nice and large;
- screen clarity is good (maybe not GREAT, but good);
- touch screen works well.
CONS:
- serious wifi card issue, needing replacement under warranty (see below);
- fingerprint reader often fails to read my fingers, obligating me to then type in a PIN to unlock the laptop (small but annoying inconvenience);
- battery OK, but not wonderful.
MY ONE BIG PROBLEM (both with laptop and with Lenovo customer service):
The built-in wifi card was faulty (ended up dropping connections to routers every few minutes and needing to be "reset" to restore internet connectivity) and needed replacement under warranty. Turns out the RealTek 8822 wifi card is a known issue with this laptop (since at least summer 2018), yet my version (bought late Dec. 2018) had that bad card in it.
Lenovo did ultimately replace it under warranty with an Intel 8265, and now all is well. BUT, they charged me an extra, unnecessary, unfair $85 to make that warranty repair (explained below).
My lesson learned is that if you buy any Lenovo laptop, seriously consider "upgrading" the basic warranty BEFORE notifying Lenovo of a warranty issue(!). Seriously. Doing the opposite cost me an additional $85, per Lenovo "policy."
Lenovo's basic warranty coverage is called "depot," and requires you to ship the laptop to Memphis TN for 2 weeks to have it serviced. (Besides the inconvenience of losing use of your laptop for 2 weeks, just think about all the security concerns that raises: risk of stolen passwords, access to bank accounts, etc., even if you "wipe" your laptop before sending it in ("wiping" being its own inconvenience and expense)).
For as little as $30 (for one year), you can "upgrade" the warranty from "depot" service to "onsite" service. That means a tech comes to the house within a day or two and repairs the laptop right in front of you. Easy-peasy! And much fewer security concerns (for me, he never even had to log in to check the new wifi card; he had me do that while he waited).
But you must do this "upgrade" BEFORE calling Lenovo about a problem, lest they hit you with an additional $85 charge.
I only discovered the warranty "upgrade" option AFTER I had first called in the wifi issue, because they do NOT broadly advertise the "upgrade" option.
SO, even though I did then "upgrade" my warranty, they still charged me an additional $85(!!) ($79 + tax) for a "one-time upgrade" of my pre-existing warranty service issue. In effect, Lenovo was penalizing me for calling Lenovo about the wifi card issue first.
That up-charge should have been waived, especially once I upgraded my warranty. But they wouldn't budge. That's their policy. That wasn't customer-friendly, nor especially fair, given that the wifi card issue was of their own doing.
BOTTOM LINE: very good laptop for the money. But if you buy it, (a) immediately "upgrade" your warranty to "onsite (again, about $30 for one-year, and $75 for 3 years - a decent deal), and (b) be on lookout for wifi card issue (esp. if RealTek 8822 card is pre-installed). If you upgrade the warranty and need the wifi card replaced, should only take 2-3 days for a tech to come to your home or office to do it.

We are sorry to hear that you had issues with WiFi connectivity with your Lenovo Yoga 730-13. This model ships with the latest 5G 802.11AC frequency WiFi. For the best connectivity, be sure the router you are using has the latest firmware updates from the router manufacturer's web site. You can be sure the computer has the latest BIOS and communication drivers installed by scanning the device with Lenovo Utility software installed on this computer. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. If the issue still continues after these updates, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686 for additional help.

I was looking for a faster laptop for work travel. I love Best Buy's return policy because I actually bought three laptops to get to this one. The first laptop I got was an HP that had been returned, and it wouldn't take the MS Updates. The second was an HP also that worked great and I really liked, but was too big for a road warrior traveler ( I traveled 241 days last year ). I decided on this one, it is fast, great screen, small enough to use on a plan tray table. So far, no complaints. The sound could be louder, but certainly not a deal breaker.

This Laptop is Indestructible!

I purchased this laptop for school November 2015. It worked seamlessly until I'd absentmindedly left it on the floor to charge; and it had been stepped on. I was given the runaround at the Bestbuy on 86th & Lexington, and was given attempted a Dell laptop instead, since I refused was sent to the Union Square location, where I was given a replacement.
This laptop has been poured liquid into, smacked and sat on my toddler. Dropped a few times, and even still it broke in levels.
First the touch screen. Then rotation, then cracked. The screen fell off and I taped it, and finally the keyboard. This was over the course of two years. Lol. So even though it finally gave out, she held up so well.
I'm back in school again and looking to repurchase very soon.

Ok Laptop, but not for me

I tried Lenovo for the first time, after having 3 ASUS laptops. I have only had this computer for a few days, and I am planning on returning it.
Pros: Nice distance from the edge of the computer to the mouse tracking pad, and to the keyboard. Very responsive mouse action on the mouse tracking pad. Backlit keys are a plus.
Cons: The markers for "F" and "J" are too small, or not tall enough. I am having a difficult time easily finding home position.
This was the first computer I bought without the separate number keypad on the right side. I thought I could live without it, but I am missing it very much. The keyboard is also not as responsive as I need it to be. For example, many times when I type a word, it prints one letter, and then skips the next letter, and then gets a few more letters at the end of the word. This is very annoying to me, and I have to go back and fix the words. I don't think I am typing so fast that it should not be able to keep up with the keystrokes. The other item about the keyboard that I just can't seem to get used to is the arrow keys. There are nice, large keys for left and right, but there are very small, like 1/3 size keys for arrow up and down. I don't play video games with my laptop, and so maybe they redesigned the arrow keys for that purpose, but for me, I can't easily find the page up and page down keys, and that is pretty annoying, because I search through a lot of documents, and these up and down arrows are some of the main keys I use. I suppose I probably could eventually get to know where these keys are, but the unresponsive keyboard is the deal killer for me. I will be returning this computer soon. This may be a very nice computer for some people, but for me, it is not a good fit.

Thank you for trying the Lenovo Yoga 730-13. This model is an ultra portable, 2 in 1 architecture device. It has a standard QWERTY keyboard sized for a 13.3" inch (screen size measured diagonally), without 10-key numeric pad. With regard to the cursor seemingly skipping from one location to another while you are typing, be sure you are not, inadvertently touching the touchpad while you are typing. You can adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to reduce this issue. You can make adjustments to the touchpad in your system settings. You can get there by clicking on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your Windows 10 screen. Type "touchpad" in the search window. Select "Mouse & touchpad settings" from the list of choices. You can make general adjustments to the touchpad there. You can also select "Additional mouse options" for more detailed adjustments to the touchpad sensitivity by increasing the delay of the touchpad. If you have additional questions, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686.

Best Laptop for ANY college student.

That's right I said it, its the best laptop for any college student currently selling on Best Buy. I spent hours and hours searching all over the internet searching for deals, till I finally found this one. I used my student discount code along with a rebate on retailmenot to get this bad boy to 650$ plus tax and shipping. This computer is the best of all worlds, its fast, slim, light weight, and powerful enough for CS majors and engineering students. The touch screen may seem like a gimmick, but you'll find yourself using it more often than not especially if you don't have a mouse. The keyboard feels great and the full aluminum build and design makes you feel great when everyone pulls out their Macbook airs before a lecture. The only downside I can see to this laptop is the difficulty to Dual boot it to run linux and the amount of storage space although those two problems can be solved. If you wish to dual boot this device you'll have to look up a guide for how to do it on older versions of the this laptop, and as for storage buying an external hard drive has never been cheaper and especially with the thunderbolt 3 connectors transferring and accessing data has never been faster or cheaper.

Flickering screen makes laptop almost unusable

I've owned this device since April 2018. Several months ago I started to experience screen flickering, black lines, and inability to use the trackpad and keyboard.
These issues have been reported in other comments here as well as in several web forums, so it seems to be a common problem. Like others, I have to keep moving the screen or pressing on it to keep it working.
Apparently the cable that connects the motherboard to the screen comes loose or has some other problem.
It's out of warranty and I doubt that Lenovo will repair the poor design for free.
I'd also note (as some others have) that the power button is on the side and it's very easy to hit it while using the laptop. This results in having to bring it out of sleep mode - another annoying feature. Battery life isn't very good, either.

Awesome laptop for a reasonable price. Very responsive, speaker have decent sound, and battery life is acceptable. I have found that other 2-in-1's either have a loud fan, crappy speakers or laggy touchscreen. I am absolutely happy with my purchase. Bonus: the price dropped by $200 the day after I purchased and I was able to get a refund due to Best Buy's 15-day price match guarantee.

I really like this laptop. Battery life is good. Screen is crisp and still bright on lower bright settings. Hooked it up to a workstation with 2 monitors and my bluetooth headphones with no problem. It starts up and shuts down very quickly. No lag while opening chrome and visual studio or office apps. Plus it's light and small enough to put it in backpack. Cons are that it only has one USB 3.0 and the USB-c to USB or hdmi cost quite a bit.

I am in LOVE with this laptop! It is so lightweight, and the ability to flip it any which way allows me to use it as both a laptop and a tablet with no issue. It's especially great to flip it around to use as a stand-up video screen for streaming on planes or at home. I purchased the Lenovo stylus, and it works great with it. The computer is whip fast and has excellent graphics (for a non-gaming PC). It's definitely on the more expensive end, but it's worth it!

This laptop is really nice and functions well. The only reason I rated it a 4, was just because initially it would intermittently disconnect to any wifi source. Turns out there was some pending update, and sometimes , not every time, the laptop doesn't completely finish an update which interferes with connection . So every once in a while I may have to manually force a software update but otherwise, this thing is very user friendly and compatible with my responsibilities for school.

This is the 4th Lenovo Laptop our business unit has bought in the last year. All are working well and easy to use from the initial set-up to full utilization. They are light-weight, have great screen quality and a solid battery life. I am the lucky one who has the newest one in the bunch. Works great so far and does not seem to run quite as warm as the first 3 we purchase do, which was an issue that Lenovo addressed with the upgraded version.

I bought this laptop to stream music, social media, email and some other choice apps. It is the perfect size on my end table next to my headphone amplifier and dac for hours of enjoyable listening! The only thing that isn't ideal for me is that I can't download much of my music because the solid state hard drive isn't nearly large enough for HD music files and I was disappointed to see that just to run the programs on the laptop and Microsoft office took up most of the space on my hard drive! I don't think that solid state is the way to go for someone like me who wanted to use it for downloading music files! Next time I will have to look for something with a much larger hard drive.

So, I got this laptop because of the good reviews about battery and overall performance, and at first everything seemed to be working properly, but after few weeks I have been experiencing a lot of problems, maybe due to the windows updates? I dont know. Anyway, the thing is that, even if all the problems have solutions (flickering screen, night mode disabled, screen not rotating when converting to tablet mode, brightness buttons not responding, etc), I am really tired of having to google all of them, and trying the proposed solutions to see which one actually works... I don't remember having this kind of problems with my old DELL computers, which I didn't buy this time due to the low battery performance, but now I think I prefer low battery but good overall performance than THIS....

I bought this laptop to replace my Toshiba Radius that had gotten broken. Typing is fairly easy, very lightweight. Fast processing, and decent screen. Nothing flashy, but it just works. I have not used the camera, nor done any photo editing, and the fingerprint scanner works for a day, then loses your print and you have to re-enter it. It never lasts longer than a day. I gave up. Other than that I have no complaints. I will say I only get about 5-6 hrs on battery. Not an issue for me, but it may be to some people. I however keep the screen bright (old eyes) and some may get a longer life than what I have. Sound is ok, not great, but not so quiet you can't hear easily. Touch screen is responsive, as is the track pad.

This laptop's features are great don't get me wrong. Its lightweight, easy to use, and is very fast. However one year into using it and the screen started to go out. It would flicker off and come back on. It progressively got worse and eventually the screen wouldn't go back on.
I took it to a repair shop. The cost to fix the screen was over $350 due to the FHD screen. They also said it was very difficult to replace. They said the reason the screen went out is because the cable connecting to the monitor is very close to the hinges of the laptop. So constantly opening and using the laptop in tablet mode led to the monitor going out.
Well fast forward a year after that, and lo and behold, the screen is going out again. After fixing it the first time I never used it in tablet mode because I wanted to be sure that the cable wouldn't be damaged but flipping it around. The cable is some how get damaged by just opening the laptop.
I love Lenovo, but they need to fix this issue on future products. The moment this screen completely goes out I am going to have to get a new lap top because I am not going to spend twice the price just to get it fixed.
Stay clear from this laptop!

I got this unit because of a big sale and I wanted to move on from the Surface series of devices because while those are nice n' all, you can't replace the battery if they fail & the pen wasn't good for me for art. The Yoga is faster CPU wise, equal GPU wise but has a lower res screen, 1080p is fine for a screen this size.
Okay so the YOGA 730, I'm going to get the negatives out of the way first.
The device doesn't come with a pen and it really should. I got the wacom bamboo ink and despite what some people say, yes it DOES work with this laptop. You need to get the lenovo pen app and NOT go to wacom's site because they will say it's not compatible but after drawing with one for several hours on this laptop I can assure you any review you read saying otherwise is wrong.
The batterylife claim of 10 hours is wrong, usually estimates are 2 hours or so off with my experience but I'm seeing 6 or 7. This however is mitigated by the fact that it will charge up to 80% in an hour, which that claim seems 100% accurate.
I don't like the inputs, sporting 2 USB C ports and one normal USB port. I know cellphone users are all into USB-C but I have 10+ devices that are USB 3 or 2. Meaning I gotta buy a dongle if I want to use my devices.
The screen is a BIT dim, I don't think you'll be using this in direct sunlight but it's not at all bad. In a sun-lit room? You'll be fine at 100% brightness.
Okay, positives!
It's a great artists device, Clip Studio Paint runs super well while I'm multi-tasking. Whether it's a twitch stream in the bg while I'm painting with big brushes on a 600DPI doc it doesn't seem to struggle. Given I've worked on lower end devices I can confidently say you could easily work on art while streaming it to twitch while playing music and voice chatting on discord.
The kb is nice, I know some seem to have trouble with low travel keys but typing this out right now and it's nice and quiet. I wish there was some media buttons (there's volume) like play/pause/next but eh I don't mind.
The speakers, though on the BOTTOM of the device are pretty dang nice. They don't sound tinny like other laptop speakers. I mean they're not going to replace desk speakers but you'll be able to enjoy music and youtube vids nicely. Just make sure that you adjust the dobly settings! Don't leave it on whatever it came with, it will not sound good. Play with the settings a little and figure it out.
Though you gotta buy the pen separately, I got the wacom bamboo which is super nice with 4k levels of pressure sensitivity but more importantly it has a very low activation force so light sketching is easy with this pen on this device. Way better than nTrig.
This device is repairable, that's the biggest thing here. There's 5 screws on the bottom and boom you can replace the battery if it's damaged or worn out. Or swap out the SSD for a larger one. So- BIG bonus there.
Conclusion being, I know some artists are hopping on the iPad for their portable art but you're not gonna be able to multitask and with that thing's limited OS vs a full OS and keyboard and expansion ports I'd recommend this any day over a iPad. You could easily do all your art, social, streaming on this device or even hook up a Wacom/Huion tablet to it & get full desktop functionality and programs going.
I got it on a hefy sale and I'm not unhappy with it, cheaper than a surface and ipad for what I paid and it's more powerful and has more functionality.

This is my second Lenovo Yoga, and so far I love it. It's a smidge smaller and lighter than my previous one (also a 13"). The only complaint I have so far is the keyboard - there aren't dedicated keys for page up/down, etc. It requires the use of the function key, which is awkward and has taken some getting used to. Other than that, it's a perfect little laptop.
