One of the best sounding sound bars oout there. I originally purchased a $500 Samsung sound bar. I took it back the next day as the sound quality was terrible. I decided to give this guy a shot as I have an LG OLED and figured I’d keep it in the family. WOOOOOOW!! Blown away by the sound this produces. Rich mid tones and deep base. What surprised me the most was the clarity of the voices you get with this sound bar. Even though it’s 2.1 you still get an almost isolated voice channel and surround sound like quality. Planning on picking up the surround speakers soon too!!

Got this on sale for only $179 and it has exceeded my expectations so far. Sounds amazing paired with my 65” LG tv in the living room and looks great mounted on the wall.

BLUF: If you aren't in the market for a full audio system setup (i.e., AV receiver plus speakers for 7.1/5.1, etc.), but want a great, easy, and cost-effective audio upgrade, this is the soundbar for you! It gets the job done with ease, and the system gets even better if you add in the optional rear speakers. I'm a happy customer that would purchase again! NOW for the full review: I have a some experience with speaker setups. In my old house, I personally ran wires behind drywall and in the attic to install a 600W 5.1 system. But I moved to another city for a job, and I was looking for a cheaper and easier solution for the time being. I decided on the SJ5Y for several reasons. (1) price, (2) good balance of price vs output (wattage per speaker), (3) ease of adding wireless, true surround speakers, (4) Dolby, DTS, and FLAC decoders, (5) connection options - HDMI in & out, optical, and bluetooth, and (6) it looks good and matches my LG TV. I was not looking for Chromecast, Apple, Spotify, Pandora or any other built-in applications with my soundbar. I have a phone and a game console, and between the two, I have convenient media streaming options covered. If you NEED those applications baked in, then look elsewhere. System setup is very simple. Plug in your cables between TV/SoundBar/Other media device, plug in your power, and then start listening! The subwoofer paired automatically without any prompting by me. Same for the rear speakers (item SPJ4). Distance from sub to soundbar is about 10 feet, and the rear to soundbar is about 20 feet. Once I downloaded and installed the updated firmware via USB, as well as threw out the pack-in optical cable and used a quality one, the system's sound interruptions stopped once and for all. On the 2.1 setup (No rear speakers): Sound quality is exceptional and clear for what it is - 60W per channel with a 200W Sub. Again, coming from a larger, more expensive 5.1 setup, I can tell the difference between output and range/fullness for the individual speakers. BUT, I was VERY IMPRESSED at what this system can do. This soundbar is easily able to fill the room. I have yet to even come close to maxing out the volume on this baby, and expect I never will. The Adaptive Sound Control (ASC) is my preferred sound mode for TV shows - it enhances voices very well - but I switch it over to BASS while listening to music to help get a more robust range of highs and lows. On the 4.1 setup (With rear speakers): I experimented with my game console outputting uncompressed 7.1 audio over HDMI. This awesome soundbar was able to handle all that data and push it out to the different channels superbly. So I am able to hear that wonderful behind-the-head zooming fly-by or ambient noise when the protagonist is in a crowded room. My movies and games sound wonderful; oh, how I had missed surround sound! For my movies and games, I usually change my sound mode to STANDARD. The CINEMA option is OK, but I think it tries to widen the sound field too much, causing some distraction for me. To those of you with an LG TV: in my experience, the LG SoundSync limits sound output to stereo from both front and back - not true surround sound. It is great to control the TV and sound with one remote, but not at the expense of true surround. Haven't been able to determine if this is simply a limit imposed by my TV or not, or my choice of connecting soundbar and TV with an optical cable, but once I turned Sound Sync off, the true rear channels returned to action.

This is a good bar for the cost. I even bought the wireless speaker package for this. Both on sale at a very good price plus my member gift cert money's it was a great deal. The system sounds good, its easy to hook up. I have to keep telling myself it still sounds better than what I had, NOTHING. Here's why. The volume level goes up to 40, but as you turn it up to full 40 right around 25 and up to 40 it doesn't sound like it got any louder. So don't expect this one to vibrate your windows or anything like that. It's my first sound bar and I like it. My next one will be more watts and cost a lot more money but always look for one you like and be patient in hopes it goes on sale.

In Best buy first I bought LG SH3 for $149,This soundbar and subwoofer is great but lacks in LED display,So I returned it back and opted to buy SJ5,this is a excellent soundbar in terms of sound from soundbar and Bass is shaking my room.I don't see any connectivity issues and this soundbar is excellent than any other soundbar which I tested in Best buy store,Actual price was $189 but I got discount of $50,So for $120 I finally bought this.I would recommend this to who is looking great sound with high bass.I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.

Sound quality is pretty good but can notice it sounds like it's missing something. With just the 2 and 1 sound bar with subwoofer i wasn't getting the full movie Cinema quality sound from it at all you really need to buy the LG rear speaker kit to go with it unfortunately to get full effects . I Wished I would have known that when I purchased my the lg 2in1 sound system cuz Best Buy was offering a great deal on the two and one sound bar and if you ordered the rear speaker kit at the same time as the 2 and 1 i could of saved even more the rear kit regular price is 129.00 but could of got it for only 59.00 if bought together. So i now have to pay more for them but got lucky cause bestbuy had sale on kit it was129.00 now was 79.00 so i bought them so that now my surround sound system will have that true movie cinema quality that i was looking for now my surround sound is completed.

I have been looking at sound bars for a while and finally went into Best Buy to purchase one during a sale. I looked at the Klipsh RS-6, which was on sale for $250, but then a Best Buy employee showed me this LG sound bar for $230. The Klipsh sounds better than the LG at low volumes but becomes tinny as the volume gets louder. The LG gets better as it gets louder, with powerful bass and incredible clarity. Movies that have good sound tracks like Sing or La La Land really shine. What really sold me on this soundbar is the ability to add the wireless rear speaker kit. With the extra speakers, the LG sounds significantly better than the Klipsh, boosted by the additional speakers and increased system wattage. I also like the amount of input options and eq. adjustablity that this soundbar has. I did notice that the mids get a little muddy when playing rock or metal over bluetooth. I was able to lessen the effect with some eq adjustments, but it is something to keep in mind if you plan to play that style of music through the soundbar. Part of the issue is that it is a soundbar and tries to create a surround sound effect that doesn't work as well for regular music files. Most other genres sounded quite good and rock still decent. I would definitely recommend this soundbar for the price range, especially if you can get the rear speakers.

This is the first sound bar/sound system that I’ve ever purchased, and I am very happy with it! It was much easier to install and set up than I was initially thinking it would be and the sound quality is so much better than the basic tv speakers. I also like that I can add more surround sound speakers to the system later on if I wish. I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in increasing the quality of your home television experience.

Went with this model for the price looking for Bluetooth capability, name brand with a display. A little disappointed that it only has 4 speakers in the bar, but nonetheless sounds decent considering, was easy to setup and works seemlessly under the tv remote volume control with decent volume range.

As I understand it, because TV's are so thin now, the sound isn't so great because there is no room for a decent sound system. The sound bar sounds really great and once you hook it up, you're done! It automatically turns on with the TV and runs from a universal remote or like our, a Dish remote.

good quality speaker, really noticeable bass compared to the one that some of the lower quality speakers have. I got this as an open box item and am extremely happy with the quality compared to others in the price range.

I was looking for a home stereo to compliment my LG TV. The LG SJ5Y was perfect for my needs. The sound quality is outstanding. Paired with the rear speaker kit produced a quality surround sound experience. The price was right as well. I would highly recommend this system.

Nice looking addition with pretty good sound and a versatile & decent sounding bass unit that can be placed just about anywhere near an outlet for power. Set-up was a breeze although the mounting brackets for the bar itself is noticeable if you look closely. Even better that the rear 3-piece unit came free as a gift with purchase which was also easy to set up, again, near an outlet for power. Aside from the mounting brackets, the control limits could be expanded (i.e. rear vol, tre, bass, etc) for more complete tonal control. Worth noting is the fact that the rear unit is not completely wireless. There is a wireless unit which receives its signal from the sound bar wirelessly and then wires go to each rear speaker from the wireless unit which needs access to an electrical outlet. Best used for small to medium rooms and/or rooms that can't easily be wired for a true surround sound system or someone who would rather not permanently install a hidden-wire system, rental for example, but desires rear surround.

Want simply surround without the full blown system and all the wiring involved? Then this is what you need. Sounds great, easy to setup and use, just make sure that your television has an optical port out, or Bluetooth speaker connectivity. If not HDMI will work, but is difficult to use with multiplied HDMI inputs.

I picked up this sound bar on Black Friday for $70 off, and I could not have made a better decision. This soundbar was extremely easy to set up and has improved the sound quality of my living space ten-fold! The bluetooth connection between the bar and the sub worked automatically and perfectly, even through a large coffee table and an entire couch. The remote control that comes with the system allows me to power on the bar and connect my bluetooth phone to the speakers and play music when I am not watching TV. I connected the soundbar to the TV with the ARC display port. The TV automatically adjusts the output to the soundbar. It was suspiciously easy. Highly Satisfried.

This review is in conjunction with the rear speaker units. Got the bundle for a great price at Best Buy. Sound quality is much better than my stock LG TV. Set-up was very easy but a couple things of note. The Subwoofer is wireless and can be placed anywhere near an outlet. The back speakers are wired to a central box which can also be put anywhere near a plug. Those wires for the rear speakers are the biggest hurdle in trying to hide if you are looking for that totally wireless look.
