Making the leap from receiver to soundbar

After 13 years with my beloved Pioneer Kuro 5010 plasma TV, I finally moved into the 4K world with the recent purchase of an LG GX 77" TV (which I've been very happy with so far). Because my old receiver would not support 4K or any of the new sound standards, I decided to upgrade my receiver as well. After purchasing a fairly high-end unit (NAD), I was still finding small issues with things not working the way they should. I then came to a realization that I wanted to drastically simplify my setup. I don't want my home audio to be my second hobby. After doing quite a bit of research, I decided to give soundbars a shot. I landed on this soundbar due to it's favorable reviews (being the same brand as my TV actually had very little to do with it) and strangely enough, width (the stand it sits on is a touch under 48", limiting my choices). I also added the optional rear speakers which BB thankfully discounted when purchased together. This was another limiting factor to my decision as I wanted to make use of my existing ceiling speaker wire. Most of the more expensive units need the rear speakers plugged in and I just don't have a good space to put speakers behind our couch to do that. This is usually because those rear speakers also have up-firing Atmos speakers. Setup was simple and I had zero issues with the wireless subwoofer & wireless receiver for the rear speakers pairing to the bar. With my existing floor speakers and large center speaker still in place, I powered on the soundbar and started playing music. I was truly and quite literally shocked at the sound quality! For a second, I actually thought I still had my old speakers on and had accidentally played to them instead. I had no idea something so small could deliver such a great and powerful sound. The sub is also very impressive (echoing the reviews I read). The soundbar itself also looks very sleek and modern. I wanted something that I could airplay my music to without turning on the TV and it works great (something that the $$$ receiver couldn't do). Movies also sound as good or better than the receiver I had purchased. I've also accomplished my goal of a simple and sleek setup. No more receiver, floor speakers, giant center channel speaker, blu-ray player, and Harmony universal remote. Now we exclusively use the remote that comes with the new Apple 4K TV (where we watch a majority of our content). We keep the TV remote around in the rare cases we want to watch live sports with the HD antenna. To summarize, I am 100% satisfied with this soundbar (and the optional rear speakers which I recommend you pick up). I believe the next model up simply adds 2 side speakers to the bar which adds to the length (too long for our stand) and an extra $200. Otherwise, they are identical. You'll have to decide if those two extra speakers are worth $100 each. As far as negatives, I originally couldn't figure out how to rename the device in my AirPlay list as the steps listed in the online manual do longer seem applicable (this is probably due to changes on Apple's side). I resolved this my installing the Apple HomeKit app on my phone. After adding the bar, I was able to rename it through that app. Speaking of apps, the updated app for this soundbar is also great. Very simple interface and a vast improvement over the previous version. I've played with the various sound modes and I think they really do improve your experience depending on what you are listening to (although the default Sound AI mode also works great if you'd rather not change settings all the time). I hope that LG eventually releases an iOS widget for the app so that I can quickly switch b/w the various sound modes. For now, I've just created a Shortcut to the app as a widget instead. For those in a similar mindset of wanting to simplify your home theater setup, I highly recommend giving this soundbar a try. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a room full of old AV equipment I need to sell :-)

If you're on the fence about getting this sound bar, get it now before the sale is up. As noted I bought it on sale. I bought it for my bedroom (13ftx12ft). (On phone app) 1. Calibrated, 2. set Sound Effect to Music, 3. Surround Sound - On, and 4. set all Speaker Levels to 6db. Based on my space and listening area, this sound bar sounds truly AMAZING!!! Based on other comments, it's true, the bass doesn't hit low, which I didn't expect it to, but once again this is a 440w, not a rythmik f18 subwoofer. Also, HDMI connectivity makes it possible to sync and control volume/power with the TV remote. Mind you I don't have an LG TV, it is connected to a TCL and the remote works. I'm very happy with the purchase, thank you best buy for such a great price offer. I couldn't be happier!!!

This sound bar is best soundbar out there. Guys if you’re looking to fill up your room with cinematic effects and enjoy watching every movie you put on, then this is the soundbar you should get. 3.1.2 DOLBY ATMOS. Make sure it’s model SP8YA soundbar. And don’t be cheap guys, buy the rear surround speakers with it. I have bought them with my soundbar and OMG! Every movie I watch. I can hear every little details in the movies that are Dolby Atmos. The rear surround speakers put out a big punch with every sound comes out of them 140WATTS power combined…Put on SHANG-CHI with this soundbar. You’ll see wat I’m talking about. Make to connect it ONLY THRU e-Arc hdmi port. Only then you will get the high quality sound you’re looking for.

-- I haven't had a sound bar before and I paired this with the LG C1 via HDMI ARC. Everything connected extremely easily, I was wondering how the subwoofer was going to connect and upon reading instructions it had already done it on it's own. (simple Bluetooth... and it works well). -- It is surprisingly loud (and clear, to my ears..)..haha... I haven't gone above 28... and generally need to keep it under 20 especially when noise levels reduce outside (I live on a busy road but it quiets down at night..). -- I've been pleased that it 'just works'... and the only thing that's a bit confusing is how to turn the display off completely. I googled it and it seems like there must be a way, but I'm a big fan of not seeing anything on the display unless I adjust it, and... this displays something all the time.. (very, very minor and it's not super super bright, so ...this is really knit-picking(?) : ) -- I read reviews about the "5.1.2" big brother/sister SP9YA but this came with a very good deal as a bundle and ..I'm happy with this. It's tempting to go for 5.1.2, but... going up from TV-only sound to a rockin' soundbar, I'm very happy with this. -- I *will* be getting the wireless speakers (from LG) and they look like a pretty good deal overall. ...I'd recommend this. Especially as a bundle deal with a TV. ...I rated quality excellent because it does what it's supposed to... it's pretty much all plastic but... it is what it is.

Good sound bar. Using this in a room with vaulted ceilings and can not make out the upper sound. Using the rear surround speaker kit with this system. I dont think i would like the sound bar alone without the rear surround kit. I replaced an older Samsung 2.1 bar and this one is definitely better. Good for the price but no replacement for a component system.

I was in need of an upgrade from my TV speakers, and this soundbar MORE than met my expectations! While there are better soundbars than this, for the price, it is hard to beat the experience this one brings! It gets plenty loud, is easy to setup and use, has AI Room Calibration via the LG Soundbar app, and looks and feels premium. Great Atmos experience!

Purchased this sound bar for my husband. Our LG TV doesn’t have good sound at all. We stay home more these days & needed the ability to “hear” the movies. This sound bar was extremely easy to install. The setup with the LG tv was so simple. The sound quality it great for this price. For some reason they do not give you the skews to anchor to the wall. I guess because they don’t know if you will do that or another option. That’s the only con I can come up with.

Great sound, deep bass for a smaller room, jury is out on if the Dolby Atoms “really” works, but for the size room and TV we have, this is a really solid sound bar! Pros: Easy to install, great all around sound, solid wireless bass! Cons: Took awhile and patience to get all inputs to sync using ARC, sound distorts at higher volumes, not sure if the Dolby Atoms really provides any true benefits.

I was unsure about purchasing an open box item. But the sales rep assured me it’s just as if I had bought it band new. It was returned due to someone wanting a smaller TV. When I received it the screen protector hadn’t never been removed so buying an open box saved me over 300.00. So I had to purchase the this sound bar and subwoofer of course, great buy! I’m happy!

I wanted to upgrade from an outdated but premium 2-channel soundbar (Libratone Diva) with built in woofers to the modern world of eArc, CEC and Atmos for my TCL r635. After much research, the SP8YA seemed to fit the bill. I was already over budget, so I didn't get the back speakers. And maybe that was the downfall – family consensus was that the old sound bar beats this one in base/treble balance and clarity, if not pure boom, and nobody thought the 3.1.2 Atmos added much to the experience in the movies we tried. Made sure to return it before the return window closed. Nothing wrong with it, just wasn't hundreds of dollars better than the old soundbar. Like some other reviewers, I could not set the wifi up through the LG iOS app. The Google Home app added it perfectly, including a software update, and after that, the LG app started working, too!

Short and sweet - I had this sound bar linked to a 77" LG C1 OLED, and the combo is SWEET. Going with same-brand made it the simplest, easiest set-up. Everything just works, the remotes auto-recognize, no syncing, no nothing. Straight ease, straight of the box functionality. The subwoofer is completely wireless and can be placed anywhere within about 25 feet. I'm really enjoying the upgraded sound during single player games like Far Cry 6 and the Halo Infinite campaign.

No firmware update available. Some features are not working such as volume control using cec, power control via cec, etc. System is too new and I would recommend waiting until the new firmware is posted and all the problems fixed. Sound seems okay, but for a 3.1.2 system it really send to be lacking compared to the Vizio m51-h6 I recently had. That system has been recalled it seems like. I will give this system a week to start working correctly or it will likely be returned. For $800 I expected seamless and effortless connection to my LG CX TV

Hate that you can hear the sub disconnect? But that could be because of the distance from the unit. Other than that, I love how the vocals are audible due to the third center channel and using the tv as well since I have this paired to an LG C1.
