Customers enjoy the large screen size and find the monitor easy to use. Many appreciate the price and the improved multitasking capabilities due to the screen size. However, some customers point out that the resolution could be better and that the monitor lacks built-in speakers. A few also mention that the stand could be more adjustable.

Extra Work Space & Improved PC Gaming Immersion

Selecting a monitor is tricky these days when there are so many budget options available. In this case, I think LG has created a good balance of quality, features, and price. I moved from a 32 inch monitor to this 34 inch ultra-wide (**See a visual comparison in the attached pictures**)
This monitor is best equipped for work, or for PC gaming that provides the option to use the ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio. Be aware that neither XBOX One or Playstation 4 are compatible with the ultra-wide mode (as they don’t want to give certain players an advantage over those who can’t see the additional visuals on the far edges of the screen). The monitor does not have speakers, but does have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The included software disk does provide options to divide up the screen real estate into various options, but the average user will probably just appreciate having extra horizontal space for placing program windows side by side.
When you fill the screen, it is incredibly immersive! Racing games are probably the most impressive as you are almost wrapped in the visuals of the car and the road around you. It is also a very good option for viewing security screens as multiple cameras can all be displayed seamlessly on one screen.
There following are the reasons that I rated the screen at 4 stars instead of 5:
- The stand is stationary and cannot be adjusted up or down.
- The stand is not particularly stable, which means the monitor is fairly wobbly. If you bounce your leg, have a sit stand desk that you are moving frequently, or if something bumps your desk; you will very much notice the monitor shake.
- The physical bezel is incredibly small, but the image does not display right to the edge of what appears to be the screen. There is about a quarter inch of “screen” that does not display any image.
- The matte screen does a pretty good job of reducing reflections, but it also makes the image feel slightly flat and not bright and glossy like a HDTV image typically is.
What initially excited me about having an ultra-wide monitor was the ability to watch movies in cinematic widescreen without having the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. BUT, this not as easy as I was hoping. Let me explain:
It turns out that the aspect ratio of 21:9 (which is equal to 2.2:1) is actually a marketing term for the Ultra Widescreen aspect ratio of 64:27 or 2.370:1. Ultra WIdescreen is basically designed to display films that were recorded in CinemaScope or equivalent Anamorphic formats. Unfortunately, 21:9 is not included on Blu-Ray discs. The black bars at the top and bottom of the screen do not appear simply because your screen is not as wide as a theater’s screen. The black bars are actually a part of the 16:9 source image put onto the disc. Only high end Blu-Ray players are able to extract the middle rectangle that equates to the 21:9 image that we need to accurately fill this ultra-wide screen.
It also turns out that movies are typically NOT filmed in ultra-wide screen. The average movie is filmed with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. This is MUCH closer to 16:9 which equals 1.77:1. So, in order to determine if your source image will be a correct fit for this ultra-wide screen, you would first need to know what aspect ratio the video was filmed with:
:::HOW TO DETERMINE THE ASPECT RATIO THAT A MOVIE WAS FILMED IN:::
Look up the movie on IMDB.com
Select the option for MORE.
Under “DETAILS” you will select “Technical Specs”
Then in the chart you will see the Aspect Ratio listed
So, finding video that was filmed in true 21:9 or 2.3:1 can seem like a bit of a nightmare. Couple this with the fact that the average Blu-Ray & 4K Ultra High Def Blu-Ray players don’t have the option to output in 21:9. Instead they only allow the option of 16:9 and stretching to fit the ultra-wide screen. But, in the age of digital streaming, there is hope.
Amazon’s Prime VIdeo service, YouTube, and Netflix (within a web browser) all provide the option to display in the ultra-wide 21:9 format. Otherwise, you will probably be viewing a 16:9 image that is stretched to fit this ultra-side screen (which is a stretch that is quite noticeable).
***Helpful Note***
21:9 can also represent ratios of 12:5, 43:18, and 64:27
Overall, If your goal is to increase the immersion of PC games, or have the maximum amount of horizontal real estate while doing computer work - then I do recommend this monitor.
If you do not care about having the most horizontal space, you can save a good amount of money by sticking with a regular monitor. Take a look at the attached picture of a standard ratio 32 inch monitor compared with this 34 inch ultra wide monitor. Be aware that the 32 inch screen costs literally half as much.
The choice is yours. Choose what is best for your needs & enjoy!

I have bought one ultra wide monitor, the 34wl500, only to get it home to find out that that the PBP feature is not built in it. Please clarify your marketing in the future. I have been hunting high and low for a monitor that has this feature and it has been nothing but confusing. I mistook the “Dual Controller” feature for meaning that the “picture by picture” mode would be in the monitor. As it turns out, there wasn’t even the “Dual Contoller” software on the 34wl500 support page, even though it was listed as a feature on your website.
Now after days of looking around, I see that the only monitor you offer currently that has PBP currently is the 34wl850. Please clarify this in the future marketing material. It would be nice to have this feature be searchable on your website. This video give the impression that all ultra wide monitors have this feature.
I spent two days looking for this feature only to be disappointed. I love the possibility of this feature because I work with multiple computers, but now I have wasted my time and money getting a product that does not have what I want.
Sorry for the rant. I am just tired and frustrated.

Great UltraWide Monitor

The monitor is excellent for anything you want to do. The price is a good deal too. I was using a 28" 4K 16:9 monitor and tried this one. They are the same height wise, but the Ultra-wide extra inches on the side make a big difference. At the default setting of 2560x1080 it looks like there should be more real estate available. Using a Nvidia 2070RTX one of the default settings is 2560x1440. You only get 60Hz vs 75Hz at this setting but the extra space is worth it. You may have to adjust some windows settings for it look correct at the 1440 setting, but once adjusted it looks great. This isn’t software DSR, but an option from the monitor.
For regular desktop use, you have plenty of room to put programs side by side or in windows, 3/4 screen, etc. The included disk has a program that lets you divide up the screen as you see fit. See attached picture for modes. These are only for the programs on the computer screen, not other inputs. At 2560x1440 the 2070RTX has been breezing through games. Everything on high, and a much expanded field of view. You'll have to adjust many games to take advantage of the extra space.
The screen has presets and you can do custom settings. The presets are okay and change the picture to adjust to what you are doing. From gaming, to work, to movie watching. But, going custom provides the best options. The presets can lock you out of certain settings or being able to adjust them. Custom lets you alter any setting as you see fit. There is an HDR emulation setting too. The presets are good, but you may want to change them depending on what you are doing.
I hooked up a HD Blu-ray player and it looked as good as any TV. But, no HDR to test. Switching back and forth between HDMI ports is easy through center button/control stick on the bottom of the screen. This gives you access to all the monitor settings. It’s easy to navigate and adjust the options.
The only downside to the monitor is displaying it. The included stand is not adjustable. I use a 100x100 VESA mount and it has worked for three other monitors with no issues. This monitor had a problem. The mounts are recessed and the head of my mount would not fit. Spacers worked out fine. You could have issues. They have an adapter, but if it's a standard VESA 100 mount you shouldn't need one. I’m going to stay with this monitor for now. At 2560x1440p the 2070RTX hasn’t struggled and the games look great. I’d say 4.5 stars if possible due to mounting issues, but there is nothing wrong with the display, it’s big and really expands your desktop. It is basically the same as having two monitors on your desk without the bezel between them.

Vertical lines on brand new monitor

I received the 34" monitor today from my Black Friday online shopping. Unfortunately, this new out-of-the-box monitor is filled with vertical lines even without connecting to a source. I suppose that suggests the monitor is faulty and not due to loose cables... It's unfortunate that I'll have to return this...

WOW! Purchased the "Open Box". Product is severely damaged. Screen cracked, bevel damages, product doesn't even work when plugged in. Missing the HDMI cable and manual. This product might be great when purchased new, but not "Open Box". Best Buy advertised as "Looks Brand New" and Includes all parts. What a joke. It goes back today! No way anyone at Best Buy looked at this prior to shipment!

-= Display =-
This display is a beauty to see! I constantly have multiple windows open and the ultrawide resolution of the LG 34WL500-B allows me to create an ideal layout for my workflow. Previously, I used two widescreen monitors (16:9) and while I don’t quite have the same screen real estate on the LG, there’s something about having everything on one screen that makes it feel more seamless.
The monitor features a 2560×1080 resolution with a 5 ms response time which is suitable for gaming. The display also has a matte finish which helps reduce glare from lighting behind you.
-= Setup and Connectivity =-
The monitor has 2 HDMI inputs. There is no DVI or VGA connections. There is also a headphone jack on the back of the speaker for audio output delivered over the HDMI connection, but there are no built-in speakers.
I was a little nervous that my aging Mac Mini (Late 2012) model would not be able to handle the resolution of this monitor. Unfortunately, I was not able to use the HDMI port on the Mac Mini itself. However, I was able to use a separate Active Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (the keyword here is that it must be an “Active” adapter) to get the monitor’s native resolution as follows.
- Connect the Active Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to the Mac Mini’s DisplayPort (aka Thunderbolt) connection.
- Then, use the HDMI cable (included with the monitor) to plug into the adapter and the monitor.
- Make sure nothing is plugged into the Mac Mini’s HDMI port. It took me awhile to pinpoint this as my issue as it was preventing me from reaching the 2560×1080 resolution.
- On your Mac, navigate to System Preferences, then Display. You should be able to set the Resolution to “Default” and the Refresh Rate to “60 Hertz” to reach an output of 2560×1080.
-= Features =-
There are no speakers on the monitor, but there is a headphone jack so you can plug in your own headphones to listen to any audio delivered over the HDMI connection. While the Active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter did deliver audio to the headphone jack, I was not able to control the volume on my Mac Mini; I needed to use the volume controls on the monitor.
Speaking of the monitor controls, there is a small joystick underneath the center portion of the monitor. It’s a little tricky to use at first, but I quickly got the hang of it. I like that the control is hidden out of view. When the menu is not on the screen, pressing the joystick left and right will adjust the volume
-= Overall =-
The LG 34WL500 UltraWide monitor looks great and gives you enough screen real estate to work in two application at the same time. The monitor limits connectivity to just HDMI, so some older computers may need an additional adapter to reach the 2560x1080 resolution.

This screen is really very wide. Very good for a lot of applications. Split screen is never the same when using this wide screen... It really works like 2 screens attached. The resolution is very good even for video and photos editing. The screen is very bright with full photo setup options. The control little "joystick" is kind of hard to manipulate but once you get used to it, it will be ok. It has 2 full HDMI inputs and one audio output (audio via HDMI) to connect to headphones or desktop speakers. Very good setup.
Win10 plays well with the screen. No issues at all. The hardware setup is straight forward and very easy to mount. The only thing I don't really like about it is the power adapter type with the very short wire. I wish it was an inline power adapter. Easier to plug in any power strip.
I did some electronic boards design using it (using Eagle PCB), it is really good. Wide screen is very useful allowing a lot of things to show on the screen.
I do recommend it for any body who is looking for a wide screen to use in various computer works.

This is my first Ultra-wide monitor, so it took a little adjustment for me, being that I was using a 27" flat panel TC as a monitor before. I am in accounting, so I had the need for either 2 monitors, or 1 ultra-wide screen so that I can split the screen and be able to navigate between windows. Now that I have used the monitor for 1 week now, I have adapted to the size, and I love it!. LG makes quality products, and this monitor has all the bells and whistles needed in a monitor with the exeption of speakers, but I connected it via bluetooth from my computer to soundbar, and I am fine with that setup. I highly recommend this monitor if you are using a monitor all day long like I do. The clarity is amazing, the HDR is wow, and the best part, it is easy on the eyes! The only downside to this monitor is that it does not come with the split screen software that is needed to actually split the screen in many different ways. However, you can get the free download from LG's website. Once I downloaded it, the split screen options are fantastic, you can even use picture in picture format. I highly recommend this monitor!

Good contrast. Very big. If you’re looking for an ultra wide that plugs into two PCs and displays them simultaneously, this isn’t it. There are multiple inputs, but they work independently. The software is a little clunky. It forces snaps to the portions of screen you have divided with it, so minimizing and working multiple windows in the same workspace is difficult. Good value. Response time and refresh rate is good. For the money, this is a good monitor for tasking and light gaming. I have it on a water cooled Ryzen 7 build pushed by a 2070 and haven’t had any tearing or frame issues. If you’re looking for an upgrade from your 1080p monitor this is a great option. You can also stretch aspect ratios for consoles and make it feel like stretched resolution. Bright, zippy colors. I subtracted half a star for the clunky software and another half for the input not “picture-in-picturing”.
