    What's old is new again

about 8 years ago I was newly married, and my husband and I bought a pair of shiny, new LG Front Loaders. We loved them and they served us well for years. After selling our last home (and the W/D with it) we needed something new. We heard so many good reviews on this washer from friends and family, but I was hesitant to "go back" to a top loader. I shouldn't have been. This washer is amazing! The basket is huge and easily fits almost twice what my old washer did. My clothes have all come out sparkling clean, and I never have issues with items wrapping around each other anymore. It's very efficient in regards to the amount of detergent it needs to run, and the water usage seems very reasonable for the size of the load as it adjusts based on the weight. Some of my favorite features include the glass lid that lets you watch the load run, the venting option on the lid that can be flipped down when empty to keep moisture from building up in the tub between washes, and the sheer volume of cycle options. Plus, this machine simply looks amazing. It's sleek design and styling look great in any home!

    openbox=disappointment

This was an openbox item that someone returned after using it. There was soap still stuck on the inside but after the associate who helped us assured us that it was tested and met their standards we decided to go for it. After using it a few days we noticed the clothes wasn't coming out clean and we kept having to wash it over. One day we sat there and watched it for the whole 35 minute speedcyle option. The results had to be because the washer never covered the clothes with water all the way And without the water there is no room for the clothes to swish around And it's the same thing for all the other cycle options. This is supposed to be a smart sensing machine Btw.The employee said it senses how much clothes is in there and the weight and then based on that thats how much water is used. Now after a year of using it we just push the soak button on all the loads. also, the washer on the gentle cyle works exactly the same as the heavily soiled cylce. There is a "smart app" that always tells us the machine works fine and I saw once on another washer that these smart washers don't always cover the clothes with water but again you probably will have to rewash it. We also didn't know there was only a 15 day return period on openbox items.

After having this washer and dryer for years, we started having major problems with it. It's out of warranty so I started looking at it myself. Found the problem. Best Buy installed the cold and hot water backwards, causing damage to it over the last 4 years.

Awesome washer, better then a front loader

This washer is amazing, and absolutely worth the money. I did heavy research before purchasing a new washer and dryer set, and after comparing front Vs top loaders and the real technology behind both, I would definitely purchase this set or its comparable type again. Top loaders and this washer wash clothing much better and are just as energy efficient as a front loading series. The major benefits over front loaders would be, not having to constantly ensure the front door is left open to keep mold from growing and a thorough washing of clothing without stressing clothing items and ruining delicates. I love the washer and haven't experienced any issues and would highly recommend this washer to anyone needing to upgrade.

After starting a load it starts a cycle of dry spinning and rocking to determine the load size. Then it washes. It is a little unnerving to compare the amount of water with our old machine. More is typically better, but the clothes seem cleaner with this machine. When it finishes it plays a little tune, not the annoying buzz of the old one. lt takes a little while to learn the settings. Once we got them down it works fine - I guess the philosophy is to train the operator, not program the machine.

    Great Washing Machine

I really like this washing machine. It may not have a million cycles like some do, but I think the amount of setting and cycles are just fine. I have 5 kids so my wife and I are doing laundry on a daily basis, and the size of the tub and the settings are great. The manufacturer says that it has "diamond glass" and it is much quieter than most other units...To be honest it doesn't seem to be any quieter than my last 10 year old washing machine. But overall I'm very satisfied.

    Large Capacity and Quiet

I have had this machine for a little over a month now and use it daily. The large capacity is very useful in limiting the amount of loads I have to complete. However, because of the size it is hard for me to reach in and get cloths from the bottom (5'8"). The machine is quite and does not shake hard. The cloths spin to almost a dry state and this reduces the amount of dry time.

Our full-sized front loading washer and dryer both died after 23 years of service and our search for new machines drew us to the fantastic LG ultralarge capacity top loading machine. The cleaning options available are fantastic for all load sizes and fabric types. The wash is so clean in whatever selection you use. I love that the washer pre-senses how large the load is and adjusts the water usage for each load. And the color is beautiful -- Graphite Steel! I would highly recommend this washing machine.

Really like the washer. Does large and small loads well. Energy eff. Saves water, detergent and softener. Rated features a 4 because it takes a while to remember that some loads must have softener selected on pad and others don't. Programing a washer is a sign of the times but us old guys have to get used to it. These new HE washers have a longer cycle than the old ones but the clothes come out drier.

I bought this washer to replace one that I had for over 20 years. I did some research, and found good things about this specific machine. It has been very easy to use, and I especially appreciate how quiet it is. Needless to say, a lot has changed over two decades, and I am very happy with the greatly increased efficiency.

This machine has all the features my wife was looking for. One neat thing is that during the spins cycle, if the load is unbalanced, the machine recognizes it and then partially fills the tub with water, does a couple of turns of the agitator to readjust the position of the clothes and then restarts the spin cycle. Also, it plays a little tune when finished.

Mystery appliance that does a great job

I had read a ton of reviews on this unit. So many great reviews and then quite a few horror stories. We finally bought the washer and dryer but with a little trepidation. I have now spent two months doing nearly every kind of wash I could think of. No matter what I threw in or how I loaded it, it just did it's job. Sometimes I actually mixed heavy terry robes with regular shirts and underwear! Blasphemy! The machine didn't care. I like that it uses a lot less detergent, water and energy. Why did I say it's a mystery appliance? Have you watched it do its thing? Very strange. For those of you who are also put off by the horror reviews, I think you should consider these people bought defective machines. 99.9% of us get reliable machines. My husband (an electronics engineer, plumber, airplane mechanic, electrician, mason, carpenter, etc.) told me "considering the amount of R and D they've put into these units, they wouldn't have kept manufacturing them if they consistently failed." I can not comment on the one review from a rural family who said their clothes got really dirty and it did not clean them thoroughly. My only experience with really dirty clothes is in the form of muddy knees from gardening. The machine cleaned them too, but I can't say it would perform well on an entire wash of really muddy/dirty clothes. Okay, so my hubby and I really liked the "stealthy" look of the pair too!

This was a great washinging machine while it lasted. Of course right after my five year warranty ends, the clutch assembly for this washing machine took a crap. So now I either spend $500 to get it fixed or buy a new one. Washing machines should last more than 5-yrs!!! The 5-years we had it were great, but very disappointed its only 5-yrs. Best Buy doesnt offer a warranty past 5-years.

I've been using this washer for a few weeks and have really enjoyed it. I have noticed that with really small load you have to use the "heavily soiled" option all the time in order for them to come out clean. I've washed blankets, jeans, curtains, large loads of sports clothing with no issues.

What can I say except that I'm glad I bought the washer and matching dryer. Always wanted to try LG brand and I'm not dissatisfied one bit. Cleans the clothes and towels really well with minimal water and detergent. Love all the temperature and wash choices. I certainly hope this washer lasts a good long time.

We replaced a Maytag Neptune (junk!) with this washer. Consumer Reports rated this as their top rated top loader model. We are quite pleased with the washer (and dryer). Large capacity, quiet, lots of cycle settings (more than we use) and it doesn't need much water to operate. Cleans clothes very well. I can't believe the difference in technology from our previous washer. We chose the top loader model because of the bad experience we had with mold and stale water residing in the Maytag Neptune (did a already say junk!) front loader. Very pleased with this washer! I have already recommended this to a friend. Cleans very well, energy efficient. The only improvement I'd suggest is to have shorter (time) cycles.

I started off really wanting a front load washer and dryer. I didn't know that the appliances with the front controls even existed. Once I saw them, and learned that there were more pros and less cons than a typical front load, I was sold. Minor note: The drum without the agitator is VERY deep. I am a long limbed 5'6 and have to get on my tiptoes to get all of the clothes from the bottom. Nevertheless, still a great buy!

Beautiful washing machine but not impressed with the result when washing any dark clothing. Clothes come out with a film of lint on them. Trying different types of detergents (pods) to see if this will improve situation. Overall good machine vs what we had.

This washing machine is fantastic. Cleans the clothes better than any I have ever owned. Very large capacity, holds a lot of clothes. It spins out so great that even a very large load of laundry dry's at a normal setting. Would recommend this to anyone that is looking to purchase a machine. LOVE IT.
