Great alternative to Apple Studio Display

Personally, I am VERY picky about the resolution coming from a 5k iMac. I tried other non 5k2k’s and even with 2X resolution they just didn’t cut it.
So I was nervous and not sure it was even worth it for $1800… and I don’t think it is unless you really want or need the extra screen space as opposed to the Apple Studio Display.
For that reason it’s great. Text clarity is great. I have Mac Studio and set it to 3840 and sometimes 3360 if I want the text to be a little bigger.
Colors are great. It does seem dim at first, but I have gotten use to it. The brightness controls 50-100% have no change. So if you want to dim it, it really starts under 50%. So I run at 80-100% most of the time. I wish it could go a bit brighter for times during the day. But it’s alright.
If I had to pick a value I’d pay for it and not feel like it’s too much. I’d put it at $1200 instead of $1800 MSRP. Anything under $1000 would be an absolute steal.
However, if money is no object for you and you want the real estate. It’s probably the only choice we have that comes close to the clarity of the Apple Studio display. I don’t find myself feeling like I am missing out. It wakes up quickly. Using Monitor Control (GitHub version) and EasyRes(App Store) I can control volume and brightness from keyboard just the same.

The image is big and amazing. Apart from that obvious comment, I'm thrilled with the added features. With T-bolt 4 a single cable powers my laptop and provides a data connection to the monitor eliminating the need for a docking station to connect mouse, keyboard, camera, etc.
It's connected to an HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook and works perfectly extending the desktop.

Great for MacBook Pro; glorious low refresh gaming

To call this simply a monitor is like calling the Grand Canyon a hole in the ground. Its 40" of curved beauty is perfect for simultaneously displaying multiple open windows. I had been worried it would be too big, but I've quickly gotten used to the size and now wouldn't want anything smaller. I use this with a 2019 MacBook Pro and it displays marvelously while also acting as a superb docking station. I did have concerns that the low refresh rate wouldn't work well for gaming, but for the types of games I play (Civilization VI, Europa Universalis, Victoria 3, etc.) I haven't had any issues. Other games requiring higher refresh rates may get dicey, though. I also would recommend pairing this with Logitech's MX Keys Advanced wireless keyboard.

This is a fantastic monitor. It will take some getting used to as you will need to adjust the icons at the higher resolutions. But you can see how beautiful it is... just wish my desk was as clean looking.

Fantastic Display!!

This display is in my opinion the best option on the market right now for a lot of different types of users, but especially for mac owners. The display is large, bright, clear and works flawlessly. I really like the design with the white back, a detachable power cord! (NOT a horrible power brick) beautiful and functional stand but it's also out of the box VESA mountable! This display gets an A+ in a lot of areas for me. I really like the controls which are very easy to engage with and understand using the joystick that is in the middle of the display at the bottom. I also appreciate the designers giving the option to enable or disable the power LED on the display but I especially like that it's positioned on the bottom of the display and shines downward - it's not on the front of the display to shine in your face. This is an attention to detail that shows just how much thought was put into the design of this display. Ports galore! Thunderbolt 4 for the display, and if your device supports it there's a 2nd Thunderbolt port that will allow you to daisy chain a second display, DisplayPort, 2 HDMI ports. There are 2 USB Ports that are on the right side of the display (another attention to detail that I appreciate). The refresh rate is 72Hz (a bit better than the 60Hz on most monitors), Color is spot on. I work from home and this is my everything display! Plenty of room for spreadsheets, 300nits of brightness for photo editing and a wide screen movie fits the screen beautifully with the 21:9 aspect ratio. I think the price point is really a good bargain for everything that you get in this display.

Works flawlessly with 2018 15" MacBook and thunderbolt supplied cable. Overall I LOVE this display. Display quality for normal office work is excellent. Nits keeping from 5 stars: (1) Monitor style is attractive for a designer office, except that the power cord doesn't go through the tube of the stand and is visible. (2) I had to install LG's OnScreen Control Start software on my Mac to control brightness/contrast from keyboard, but it is slow to open and requires multiple clicks to get to brightness/contrast. It doesn't integrate with System Settings/Display. So un-integrated with MacOS now that everyone expects a superb UX. (3) The alternative is to use the single button under the monitor that requires about 6 clicks total to expose brightness/contrast and then exit the hierarchical menus -- too time consuming.

I originally bought the 38" 38wn95c and it worked with the 2021 macbook pro m1 pro 16" with all the scalening options available, however the low resolution text didnt agree with my eyes. So i returned and got this 40" 5k2k and wow the text and resolution is as clear as a 5k imac and yes all the scaling options are available for the macbook pro 2021 m1 pro. I am so glad I got this monitor! Its expensive especially since the 38" is currently on sale for 350.00 off but for someone who likes to read this higher resolution monitor was a no-brainer even at 800 more price!

This monitor is bright, has wide viewing angles, and very accurate colors.
It's big enough to put a full IDE and display a full page in a web browser, or a full width terminal. You can also fit 3 word docs side by side.
Note that HDMI will not be able to drive the display at full resolution & refresh rate. Thankfully, both display port and Thunderbolt can, and having both makes this a nice display for those who have a personal PC but also want to connect a work laptop for work from home.

I had been searching for an ultra-wide monitor for a while (there are a lot of options out there) and this monitor is amazing and meets all of my needs and expectations. I am not big on computer gaming so didn't need a gaming-focused monitor; this LG one is geared more towards folks looking for a good productivity monitor (or those working in the creative space).
It is pretty sizable (so you will want to make sure your desk can accommodate it) and it is not the brightest monitor (but its not bad - I would say average on the brightness scale). However, the clarity, screen real estate and features (such as PBP) the monitor offers makes it a productivity powerhouse. Very happy with this purchase.

This thing is amazing. Picture quality is amazing and all the room to get things done. Only problem I've seen is that you get your highest framereate using usb-c but you lose HDR capability. If you want HDR then you need to use HDMI but will be locked in at 60hz. Not a big deal for me but something I found out the hard way that took my a little while on how to fix it.

Tried a few Ultra Wides primarily for my MacBook Pro, but also wanted it to look good with my Windows desktop! The 5k resolution is incredible with both, and using something like easyRes on Mac makes this monitor so great looking at full 4k with retina!
Can fit so much more on my 1 monitor now for work and feel way more productive with video conference, without needing dual monitors any more. Email, code, browser, and terminal all on the screen at the same time, and totally legible in full 4k (or even 5k). Would recommend to remote workers or anyone who wants to be more product with one monitor instead of 2!!

I purchased the LG 40 Ultrawide 5k monitor as a replacement for two 27'' 4k monitors.
I could not be happier with the my new setup.
Plus I don't have to scale my display to 125%, thus loosing the vertical resolution.
I can now take full advantage of the 2160p vertical pixels.
It is much easier to do side-by-side code windows now without trying to work the windows around the split screen.
Not too happy about the cost. Since it is for my home office and I work mostly remote it was worth it.

Excellent picture quality . I would rate picture a 5 . The only reason I rated 4 was because of the ridiculous power "switch" . It's one of those single button things that serves 40 different functions . It takes 5 minutes just turning the stupid thing off ! I want a power switch that controls power AND NOTHING ELSE ! Its nails on a chaulkboard everytime I have to remember What the unique press and hold ....standing on your left leg face east on Tuesdays , unless it's raining then it does something else !!!! They have a little screen that comes up but it's of little use . Whenever I see a device with a nice "clean" white screen with no words and a few meaningless symbols I cringe . THEY ARE NOT MAKING IT EASIER , THEY MAKE IT HARDER ! Blank white screens with everything buried out of sight absolutely sucks .
Let it look cluttered ! At least I can find something !

Love using this for all around use and specifically video editing. Has a good variety of picture profiles and simply/easily connects to my 2021 M1 MacBook Pro. It's a pleasure to use and certainly beats the Mac Studio Monitor in every aspect except the 5K. Try it, you'll like it.

This 5k by 2k resolution monitor is everything you need for productivity purposes. the thunderbolt 4 port is a major plus. The only thing I'd say is the scaling in Mac's. The 5k by 2k resolution makes the font very small so you'll need to settle for other slightly lower resolutions, but this "problem" doesn't exist on the windows side. Absolutely recommend this monitor

I owned this display for a couple weeks. I wanted to love it. The dimensions were great and I really enjoyed the screen size. The built-in power block and daisy chaining for Thunderbolt are also good features. Unfortunately, this displays PPI is not adequate for the Apple Silicon 2021 MacBook Pro. At the monitor's native resolution, Apple UI icons on the screen are very small. Apple's scaling options made the icons too large for my taste, wasting screen space IMO. I returned the monitor for a 2020 LG model that has a PPI closer to 110. If you search for awhile online you can find articles about this, but unfortunately neither Apply nor LG are upfront about the PPI issue. For non retina displays, Mac OS looks best with display at or near 110 PPI. Ironically, running Windows on Apple OS w/Parallels and the display looked fine. Don't be fooled by the 5k2k advertising. This display is only capable of 4k resolution. It's labeled as "5k" because of the additional screen width, but it is not a true 5k monitor when considering the vertical pixels.

This Monitor is a monster, I’m loving it! I do wish it did have more nits so everyone can quiet down about it and also allow for a poppier HDR display of movies if you watch movies on your MacBook Pro 2021 M1 Max.
I watch movies on my LG OLED so that not really a big deal for me! 5 Stars all the way for me! Love LG now, from a Plasma Panasonic guy!

This is my first ultra wide monitor and I’ve got to say that the productivity boost you get with the extra screen estate is amazing.
The monitor itself is quite bulky so check if your monitor accessories will properly fit.
I had to exchange my monitor within the exchange period due to speaker issues but Best Buy was quick with it.
Overall, screen is fantastic and works well when paired to Mac minus the scaling issues. I do wish the stand didn’t take so much desk space though but understandable considering the size of the monitor.

Fantastic monitor to pair with my Mac Studio. What to love: 4k resolution, thunderbolt 4 connections, no power brick. One small complaint, no ability to control the speaker volume using Mac controls
