I'd like to provide a detailed review of the washer/dryer set I recently purchased for my upper floor, aiming to eliminate the need for constant trips up and down the stairs to my basement set. Before diving into the specifics, a few key points need to be addressed.
To start, it's important to note that this review is entirely unbiased, as I paid for the product in full. There were no incentives or sponsorships from Best Buy or LG, ensuring an honest evaluation.
Regarding installation, I strongly recommend considering the $29.99 installation service. The unit weighs a substantial 250lbs, and even with two fully-equipped adults, handling it without professional assistance can be quite challenging.
Moving on to the positive aspects, the aesthetics of the set are fantastic. Placing it on my upper floor, where it's visible to anyone passing through, required a sleek design – a requirement that this set fulfills admirably.
The user interface is user-friendly, with a simple wheel on the display for mode selection. Adjustments for temperature, spin, and soil level are easily made through button presses next to the display, with clear LED indicators. Importantly, you don't have to rely on the app, as all settings can be configured directly on the washer.
For those who prefer using the app, pairing is effortless. The LG ThinQ app guides you through the process, making it as simple as scanning a QR code inside the door. The app provides convenient control, allowing you to monitor progress and make adjustments without physically being near the washer.
An unexpected but pleasant feature is the interior light, allowing you to observe your load as it runs. However, it turns off when using the app, assuming you're not present – a minor inconvenience.
The capacity is impressive, easily accommodating an entire laundry basket's worth of items. The built-in reservoirs for soap and softener are convenient, letting you set usage preferences for each load.
In terms of noise, this washer operates quietly – significantly quieter than my standard basement washer. It's so quiet that you could comfortably sleep next to it during the spin cycle.
Now, addressing the washing performance, it matches up well with our standard basement washer. The automatic dispensing system may even result in less soap and softener usage over time.
Moving on to drying, it's essential to manage expectations. While it dries clothes to the same level as a standard dryer, it takes longer. The advertised two-hour cycle holds true for smaller loads, but a full laundry basket may take around four hours. For towels or comforters, expect a drying time of 6-7 hours.
In conclusion, this set is perfect for upper-level laundry needs, offering the convenience of avoiding trips to the basement. However, for larger items like towels and comforters, the extended drying time is a trade-off. We'll still use our basement set for these items due to its faster drying time and cost efficiency with a gas-powered dryer.

So far so good, you do need to adjust your laundering habits. Aka DO NOT OVERFILL (About a little more than halfway has given me zero issues and results in about a 2 and half hour cycle), and please clean the lint trap EVERY time (should also be rinsed with hot water ~10 loads). If you're a 1-3 person household I see very little issues in terms of through put and the added flexibility of being able to pop the cloths in, clean filter, and then hit start and know that whenever I get around to getting the cloths back out they'll be dry and ready to go is perfect for me.

We needed a new washer, as our old LG washer was giving up the ghost, it would consistently give the dreaded IE error, and would not finish a load. We’ve never had a dryer, so we’ve always either hung the wash out on the clothes line, or on the drying rack. Clothes and especially towels would end up a bit rough. But on vacation we stayed where they had washers and dryers, and my wife loved how soft things ended up. So when we got home and our washer refused to finish a load, I researched washers, but especially washer/dryer combos. It seemed that there were basically 3 or 4 manufacturers that made them, and they all use a small heat pump to dry the clothes. Reading reviews on numerous sites, it became apparent that there were issues with lint clogging up the condensers, and looking at the actual lint filters on each machine it was easy to see why. Most of them used a slide in, slide out filter that really did not completely block the passage of lint, letting lint get by the filter and clogging up the condenser fins. I saw some owners trying to use a rubber gasket around the filter to block the passage of lint, but with very limited success, and the gasket would quickly be damaged by the plastic filter sliding in and out on it, so it would likely lose its effectiveness. Others would have to call for an expensive service call to come and disassemble the top of the machine to get at the condenser to clean it. And the process of removing the lint from the condenser fins was a difficult job at best, involving taking much of the top of the machine apart to get at the fins, and then running the risk of damaging the fins in the process of removing the lint from them. None of these options are ideal. But the lint filter in the LG washer/dryer combo was different. Instead of a slide in, slide out rack, it has a 2 stage filter on the top of the machine that snaps in and out, with no spaces around it to allow lint to get around the filter, and end up clogging up the condenser fins. And the filter has 2 stages. The main filter that you pop out and clean after each wash, is the first line of defense, and the second stage is easy to keep an eye on, so you can snap that out to clean in case any lint gets by the main filter. Then between the filter and the condenser fins there is a small screen that you can pop out by removing one screw to remove it, then allowing easy access to vacuum off the condenser fins with a soft vacuuming brush to remove any possible lint that might conceivably get by the 2 filters. I think this is a much better lint filter system that the others. And that is why we bought the LG washer/dryer combo. So far it has worked very well. Yes, using it is a bit different than using a typical separate washer and dryer. We bought 6 wool dryer balls that help any dryer do better, including this one. We have found that it typically takes about 2 1/2 hours to do a wash and dry load, depending on what we are washing and drying. At first that sounds like a long time, but consider: that time involves washing and drying. I’m not sure how long washing and drying using 2 separate machines takes, as in the past, we’ve only used a washer, no dryer. But I’d be willing to guess that most separate washing, then switching the laundry to drying probably takes about the same amount of time as this one does, without our having to switch the laundry from one machine to the other. And as I said, using a washer/dryer combo machine is a bit different process than 2 separate stand alone machines. We were careful to read the user manual and follow LG’s guidance for what will work best. We use a small amount of HE liquid laundry detergent. We personally decided to not use the detergent dispenser, it’s just another thing we’d have to periodically clean, so we just place a small capful of detergent in each wash load. And because we have our own septic system, we don’t use bleach, and we don’t use dryer sheets. We use wool dryer balls to help the dryer do a good job. We separate our wash loads by type of laundry load. We clean the lint filter after each load. We leave the door open between loads to let it dry out and help prevent any mildew or musty smells. But that’s about it. It’s not difficult, it’s actually pretty easy, it’s maybe just different than what we might have been used to. But so far, we like it, my wife loves how soft everything comes out.

I recently purchased the LG 5.0 Cu. Ft. HE Smart Mega Capacity All-in-One Washer/Dryer WashCombo, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The 5.0 cu. ft. capacity is perfect for my family's laundry needs, allowing us to wash larger loads, including bulky items like comforters, in a single cycle, The ventless design is a game-changer, making installation a breeze since I don't need to worry about venting. The built-in sensors and AI technology automatically adjust the wash and dry settings based on the load. However, I've noticed that there is a significant amount of lint buildup around the machine, which requires frequent cleaning. While the built-in lint filter and auto-cleaning condenser are helpful, they don't seem to catch everything.

I was lucky enough to get this product during the Fourth of July sale. Previously, I had a separate washing machine and dryer, but they were old and had a small capacity, so I changed them and came across LG's new products. The faucet was old and needed repairs for installation, but everything went smoothly at BestBuy. We have three cats and a dog in our house, so we have a lot of hair, but when we washed them, all the hair was collected in the filter at the top of the machine, which removed most of the hair from our clothes and blankets. The capacity is large enough to wash large items such as blankets, so there is no need to go to a separate coin laundromat. Both washing and drying takes about 2:30 minutes. You can control it with a mobile phone app, so if you set the time to return when you go out, you can do your laundry quietly and without being disturbed. It's a very smart product

This washer/dryer combo is terrible! While I do love the convenience of having an all-in-one, this has many flaws. The biggest of all being lint. After each load there is more lint stuck on the gasket for the door than there is in the lint trap and it is very difficult to get off, it is basically pasted on there and stuck in all the crevices. You have to re-wet it in order to try to get it off. And while the first month it does wash and dry in a reasonable amount of time, the dry time takes longer and longer each month to now it takes 4-5 hours just for the dry cycle. So my energy usage increases every month even if I do less loads. Do not buy!

Hi, Kaytee. Thank you for sharing your feedback on the LG Wash Combo (WM6998HBA) model. We understand your concern about dealing with lint buildup and extended drying times. For the lint issue, we recommend regularly cleaning the door gasket with a damp cloth after each cycle and running a Tub Clean cycle monthly with an LG-approved cleaner to help prevent residue buildup. For guidance, you may visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=049ziz0XesY&t=1s. To address the drying performance, ensure that the load size matches the washer-dryer combo’s capacity, and avoid overloading the drum, as this can affect drying efficiency. I absolutely love this machine! I've had it about 3 months now and would never go back to a standard washer dryer set. It's just me so my loads are typically small but it handles my large (queen and king size) blankets just fine. 2 hours from start to finish and it automatically dispenses my softener and detergent. Occasionally i need to fluff and continue drying the bigger blankets but thats typical with most dryers I've used. Its in my storage shed for the time being but its awesome its a standard outlet-i didnt realize this when i purchased so that was exciting to find out. I was super hesitant but im so glad i went with this machine. Chefs kiss!

I was trying to decide between this unit or the GE ultrafast 2 in 1 combo. They both have pretty much the same features and are very simular otherwise but the main reason I chose the LG combo was because of it's lint system. It's pretty much self cleaning as far as keeping lint off of the condenser fins. The lint trap itself is very easy to empty as it's done in one motion. The GE seems to collect lent in places that are had to get to and clean compleatly. The LG unit has a 5.0 Cu.Ft. capacity as opposed to the GE's 4.8 Cu. Ft. 0.2 Cu. Ft. does make a difference especially during the drying time (although the GE does have a larger heat pump system). I've had this unit for about a month now and have had no problems so far. I just remeber to do the maintainance just like any other front loading washer. Yes, it does take longer to dry clothes than a traditional dryer it's worth it when I don't have to remember to transfer clothes.

I am absolutely in love with this washer/dryer. It is big and I am actually doing bigger loads than my previous (old style) one. I am always sure to clean the filter - there is a warning every time you start a cycle, but I already clean it after it finishes each load. I need this baby to last me until they invent one that folds the laundry as well.
I have done loads on approximately 2 hours. When I raise the dirty level on the washer it changes the time. Is great. Truly happy with my purchase.

After we started using it in Feb 2024, up tp today (date of this review which is Nov 22, 2024), here are our observations
Cons:
1) drying takes at least 3 hours, even if it is just for a small load;
2) our monthly electricity bill is a lot higher now compared to our bills using old washer and dryer;
3) it often encounters an "error" leading to not finishing a cycle;
4) it is broken now and could not be used (just after few months of using it). It says there is something with the drainage although there is actually nothing wrong with its drainage after i checked several times.
Pros:
1) space saver.

Hi, Rwyn. Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us regarding your LG Wash Combo (WM6998HBA) model. We understand your concern about dealing with multiple issues in such a short time, especially with drying performance, energy usage, and the error you're encountering. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs and expectations. For the drying time, we recommend checking if the load size is too large or too small, as this can sometimes affect drying efficiency. Additionally, ensure that the vents and filters are clear, as blockages can also impact performance. For more information, visit https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-washer-dryer-combo-troubleshooting-poor-drying--1337696273691. Regarding the error and drainage issue, even though you’ve checked the drainage, sometimes a sensor malfunction can cause the system to misread it. We suggest performing a reset or checking the drain pump for any possible obstructions that might be affecting the cycle.
Please send us a private message on social media @LGUSSupport, and our team will be happy to assist you with troubleshooting and explore any warranty or repair options to get your unit back up and running.

Serious struggle to get the clothes to come out dry. Most times I have to run an extra dry only cycle. Wish I would have purchased the pedestal because getting clothes out is a pain without it. Can't put anything on top of it because of condensation and where the lint trap is. Not very happy.

So far, I’m very impressed with this machine! I watched a few YouTube vids about how to maintain and use the different settings. it took some getting used to, but it works like a charm! Biggest learning curve is cleaning the lint trap every time, which is easy. Also, allowing clothes to dry on the normal cycle. There is no quick drying method, but, my clothes always come out nice dry, soft and smelling good on the normal dry cycle.
I also love that although it’s big, it doesn’t take up too much space since it’s a single unit. It fits perfectly in our pantry area. I would leave a couple inches on either side though to allow it to “vent”.

This unit is a good option for those low on space or lack the ability to vent a dryer. The energy efficiency is very impressive; an estimated $13 yearly electric cost, if I understand the packaging correctly.
I don’t use any smart features, so can’t comment on that.
There are 2 downsides. The laundry is not always very dry at the end of the cycle. It’s usually not worth running another dry cycle, but sometimes is required for sheets and blankets. Also, the rubber gasket on the drum is supposed to wiped down with a cloth or paper towel to clear lint/hair between each cycle. I have two cats and this adds a fair amount of routine maintenance to the equation that is fairly irritating.

I have no problem giving this unit 5 stars right off the bat. Does this washer dryer combo clean your clothes, yes very well. Most clothes are very dry, sometimes blue jeans are a little damp around the belt line, towels, sheets almost everything else is totally dry. These combo machines require a few minutes a week for maintenance, you must be diligent about cleaning up the lint to get the best efficiency, it's no big deal and only took 10 minutes.
The new machine smell was pretty bad the first load or 2 so we started to use the downy pellets, after about 10 loads the smell is all but gone. This unit has been nice most large loads are finished in under 3 hours. We really like this washer dryer combo, frees up space in the laundry room, you don't have to switch clothes to the dryer, all in all it took a little experimenting with different settings to find the sweet spot but we are happy and glad we made the purchase. The dry time may seem long but the energy savings are worth it.

I give it a 4/5 simply due to the fact that I’ve barely had it a month, but I absolutely love it! It’s very simple to navigate and the EZ Dispense feature makes things even easier! I saw a lot of comments about the dry time and it almost scared me away, but I’m glad I went ahead and purchased it! The thing is, it’s an appliance that washes AND drys your clothes. It’s not going to dry your clothes as fast as a stand dryer because it’s not as “powerful” and was built to be an energy saving beast, and that it IS! Plus, the app is super cool and reminds you if you forget!
