Customers admire the 5.1.1 Channel S70TR Soundbar for its exceptional sound quality, particularly the Dolby Atmos and WOW Orchestra features, which provide an immersive and theater-like experience. They also appreciate the convenience of the wireless subwoofer and rear speakers, as well as the ease of setup. While some users have experienced minor issues with volume control, the overall sentiment is positive, with many praising the soundbar's performance and value for the price.

Worst O.B. Buying experience ever for LG Soundbar

To be honest this was the worst experience I ever had buying an open box item suppedly in "excellent" like new condition. This was the only semi local store with it In stock, excellent condition OB, so I drove to Boca Raton after work, 1st time thinking they were open until 9pm like my Coral Springs store found out they were closed at 8pm I got there at 8:30pm so I came the next day at 7:30pm. 1st they couldn't find it and said the online stock was wrong l, then another employee found it but this was loose parts and they didn't know if the sub and rear speakers were the correct ones. Mind you an item listed as top tier Excellent is sopossed to be in original packaging with all parts, no scratches, like new condition. So this was no box, with questionable accessories l, sub and rear. I asked for them to reprice to their lowest o.b. prices and they said they couldn't and no managers were available and that the system wouldn't let them bla bla, they somehow took 10 bucks off but still listed as excellent condition. I gave in because they were closing and I was tired and just wanted to get it over with. So then when I got to my car I turned on my interior lights, start looking at it the Soundbar & speakers outer shell in a more peaceful environment. I immediately started noticing so many scratches gouges so then took out my phones camera to record what I had missed noticing inside the store. I had seen some scratches but somehow missed most while trying to hurry and pay. I then started looking at the part numbers of the rear speakers and the subwoofer to compar it to the soundbar, I noticed that the manufacturer's (mfgd) dates were off by a whole year. So I started thinking like hmm this is not the right ones turned out to be last year's models lineup rear speakers. I made sure to record everything just in case, tested when I got home to find out that yes soundbar is not compatible with the rear speakers knor the subwoofer. Urgg I was very upset obviously so I went back to Boca Raton location to return it the next day. Luckily I was able to find the highest model LG soundbar system the S95 locally in Tamarac, from a fellow veteran, brand new in the box on OfferUp app for a price I could afford ($600 regular price over $1500) To sum it up I was very surprised that no manager came up to me to apologize, ask what's wrong, offer another item, discoun, anything or to give an explanation to try to save a customer from a bad experience. I don't know how I the world an item in such terrible condition could slip by employee or a manager to be "considered" to be sold, resold in "open box excellent condition" I the Prestigious Boca Raton Best buy Location? So here I am writing this experience in the reviews several weeks later. I wasn't going to but It was so bad that I did. Hopefully it helps others. Sorry for being too low of a review write up.

The sound bar is just fine. Yes. Just fine, which says a lot. I had an older Yamaha 5.1 home theater bundle that I setup in my wife’s classroom. I chose LG, because I have an LG OLED and figured that the WOW feature sounded interesting. I turned it on and it did not have the depth of the Yamaha. The subwoofer was pretty weak and barely adjustable via the app. The wireless surround speakers are a nice touch. Everything was fine, but now when I try to run a sound diagnosis on the app, it comes back with a ‘Soundbar amplifier failure detected’ message. I reached out to LG Support and ran through the basic trouble shooting steps with no resolution. Seems like this won’t be the soundbar for me.

Excellent Value in a Compact ATMOS Soundbar
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The LG S70TR is an outstanding, speaker-packed sound bar which delivers an amazing 5.1.1 ATMOS sound experience worth far more than its modest price point. Its combination of features, sound quality and power is simply unmatched by any other sound bar system in its price class.
All great TVs, no matter the brand, are really just a beautiful visual delivery system. The speakers in even very expensive TVs are just not comparable to the display. The solution is to add a supplemental sound bar to your TV to replace those pitiful little speakers built in to it, extending the audio range of the speakers and delivering deep bass. A good rule of thumb is to spend at least half of what you spent on the TV and ideally, two-thirds or more of the cost of the TV.
The next issue is what kind of system to buy (2.0, 2.1, 3.1, 5.1 etc.). Those numbers indicate how many channels of stereo are created. 2.0 is traditional (left/right) stereo, 2.1 adds a separate sub-woofer, 3.1 adds a center channel to the left/right speakers and the subwoofer, 5.1 includes two left/right speakers up front, a center speaker, a subwoofer and two more left/right speakers positioned next to or behind where the listener sits. These systems are designed to utilize speakers at the same height as the listeners’ ears.
But in 2012 Dolby Labs introduced a new surround sound technology which added a third dimension to the sound experience through the use of “object-based audio.” Sound is projected with “height” speakers to a point above the listener which greatly adds to the impact and realism of big budget blockbuster movies. Rain falling or aircraft soaring through the sky feel as though they are really overhead, rather than simply coming from the screen. Dolby Atmos typically implements this technology through a 7.1.4 speaker arrangement. The “4” refers to the number of speakers which create sound from the top of the room (two front (left/right) height speakers plus two rear (left/right) height speakers.) Another version of this type of fully-immersive sound creation is DTS-X which uses a somewhat different approach but the same speaker arrangement. Dolby Atmos and DTS-X have become the new standards for premium movie sound.
The LG S70TR 5.1.1 sound bar effectively simulates the full 7.1.4 speaker arrangement with some very clever engineering.
Consider this fine combination of features:
• LG S70TR Soundbar (Model S70TR-AUSALLK)
• 5.1.1 speaker system with four individual speaker enclosure components
Main Sound Bar
• 6 speaker drivers: Front Left (2), Center (1), Front Right (2), Center Top (1)
• 6 30 watt amplifiers: 180 watts of total amplification power
• 37.4” wide x 2.5” tall x 4.5” deep
• Weight: 6.6 pounds
Sub-Woofer Speaker
• 7” driver with 3” rear bass port
• Wireless connection
• 220 watt amplifier
• 7.9” wide x 14.8” tall x 11.2” deep
• Weight: 12.7 pounds
Rear Surround Speakers (Left and Right)
• Rear Left and Rear Right
• Wireless connection, 315” wired connection between speakers
• 2 50 watt amplifiers: 100 watts of total amplification power
• 3.9” wide x 6.9” tall x 4.7” deep (each)
• Weight: 2.6 pounds (each)
• 500 watts of total combined amplification power
• Frequency response range: 32 Hz to 17k Hz
• Supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-X, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, PCM
• Inputs: Optical Digital, eARC HDMI, HDMI, WiFi, BlueTooth 5.1 (SBC, AAC)
• Output effects: AI Sound Pro, Bass Blast, Cinema, Game, Music, Sports, Standard
• Lag-free gaming response time (VRR/ALLM)
• Clear Voice Plus
• Optimized for integrated use with LG QNED televisions
• WOW Interface (combines LG QNED speakers with S70TR speakers)
• Remote control included
• Voice feedback to confirm settings
• Wall and TV mounting brackets included
• Warranty: One year parts and labor
In the box are the 7” wireless sub-woofer, the primary sound bar itself, two wireless rear surround sound speakers, three power cords, a sleek remote control, an HDMI cable, a pair of wall brackets for the main sound bar and a set-up book. The four speaker units are all beautifully finished in black with a slight peak on the surface with the speakers.
Set-up is easy. Just plug in the power cords to the sub-woofer, one of the two surround speakers and the main sound bar. Then connect the included speaker wire from one surround speaker to the other. The speaker wire is quite long (over 26 feet) so the two surround sound speakers can be placed nearly anywhere in the room. Next, attach an HDMI cable from the eARC HDMI port on the sound bar to the eARC HDMI port on the television. If you have other devices attached to the TV (such as a Blu-Ray player, game system, cable box, etc.) you can leave those HDMI cables as is. Or, you can route one of those HDMI cables through the sound bar. However, in either case the sound bar will take over the audio function from the TV as long as it is attached to the eARC port.
There is also an optical connection port on the sound bar but optical connections typically do not provide the range of audio needed for more complex audio such as Dolby ATMOS. You can also connect to the sound bar with Bluetooth. It supports Bluetooth 5.1 AAC so iPhones can easily connect and deliver their full sound range through the system.
The main sound bar is 37.4 inches wide and packed with 6 individual speaker drivers. There are five speakers facing you, a 4 inch oval mid-range woofer and a 2 inch tweeter each for the left and right channels, plus a 2 inch tweeter for the center channel. On the top in the center is a 2.5 inch mid-range speaker. This effectively provides the “height” information generated by Dolby ATMOS audio. Each of the speakers is powered by a substantial 30 watt amplifier (a total of 180 watts) which give plenty of punch.
The compact height of the sound bar (2.5”) is a real plus for those who have their TVs standing on a video table. It should not block the screen of any such TV.
The sub-woofer has a front-firing 7 inch driver supplemented by a 3 inch rear bass port. It is powered by a substantial 220 watt amplifier. The two surround speakers each have a 3 inch full range driver powered by a hefty 50 watt amplifier. Both the sub-woofer and the surround speakers have a green LED on the front to indicate that they are connected to the sound bar (red when disconnected.)
The eight pre-programmed sound modes map the input to the speakers in different ways. “Standard” is a simple reproduction of the original format, “Cinema” creates immersive 3D sound output from any input, best for movies. “Gaming” emphasizes the sound effects present in most video games. “Music” adjusts the bass and treble to appropriate levels for most music. “Sports” attempts to recreate the soundscape of a stadium. “Bass Blast Pro” pumps up the bass. “Clear Voice Pro” keeps spoken dialog intelligible by adjusting the center channel level independently. No more wondering what that character just said as the explosions were going off! After trying all of the sound modes I decided I liked the Surround mode best and left it on that setting. Finally, “AI Sound Pro” attempts to adjust the soundscape to match the content automatically.
OK, so enough about the impressive technical details, how does it sound? Given the modest price of this sound system, one word: INCREDIBLE!!! Press the “on” button on the slim remote, select a sound mode and you will be immersed in sound. The first thing you will notice is that deep rich bass which had been absent from your TV speakers. You can turn of the volume on the sub-woofer to floor-shaking levels if you wish! Next, the overall sound quality is superb, very clear, distortion-free with excellent midrange and highs. The remote can adjust the treble and bass level as well as the volume of each speaker individually. I have a $1,000+ 7.1.4 sound bar and surround speakers from LG’s main South Korean rival and I can honestly report that the S70TR, at about one-third the price, outperforms that system!
To truly appreciate it, access YouTube videos which showcase Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. Sit in a chair, directly in front of the sound bar and with the surround speakers behind you. Feel the sound move from the front, over you, around you, behind you – a completely immersive experience. The system does an amazing job of reproducing the full range of both Dolby Atmos and DTS-X sound files. Your home will finally reproduce that movie theater sound which you really want. And since both Netflix and Amazon Prime have incorporated Dolby Atmos into their best series, those services will be an even better bargain.
If you have one of LG’s excellent QNED televisions you get even better sound, thanks to the WOW Orchestra feature. This integrates the speakers on the television to those controlled by the sound bar to deliver an enhanced soundscape. The QNED TVs also allow you to attach this sound bar directly to the bottom of the TV with the included brackets. But this sound bar system works superbly with all TVs.
What don’t I like? The main sound bar has an LED display when you change a setting. A full LCD display on the sound bar would be far better show all settings. To access the more detailed settings you need to use the LG Soundbar app and connect the remote to the sound bar by Bluetooth. You really need to download the full owner’s manual (or access it through the LF Soundbar app) to fully understand how to use all of the features.
But, the bottom line is that the incredible sound and amazing setup simplicity of the LG S70TR make it a superb choice for an ATMOS audio system. It is an excellent value for serious video fans who want to enrich their audio experience to theater quality. You will find that this modest investment truly produces excellent returns of auditory enjoyment!

LG S70TR Sound Bar System is OK

LG has released their new 5.1.1 soundbar system S70TR in 2024. The box includes the soundbar, subwoofer, 2 rear speakers, remote control w/2 AA batteries, 3 AC power wires, brackets, spacers, HDMI cable, speaker wire, and paperwork. The soundbar system comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
Disclaimer: I used this soundbar system in my basement which is around 15'x20'. The room is built for a good movie experience.
PROS:
-----------
* This system is packed nicely in the box and has a nice appearance. It feels solidly-built, not cheap, but being black, collects dust particles quite well which are seen in some of my pictures.
* Easy to connect. After powering on the main soundbar, once ON, the subwoofer and rear speaker lights go from blinking to solid green without any pairing process. When the soundbar is powered off, the sub/rears automatically go into standby mode (solid red light on the units).
* Remote is easy to understand and has good responsiveness.
* Rear speakers are REVERSIBLE. Since 1 rear speaker must be powered on, regardless of what side your power source is on, the LEFT and RIGHT speakers can be REVERSED in the app. So if your plug is on the right side of your setup, you can put the LEFT speaker on the right side with right speaker on the left side, then reverse the sound output in the app. Since only 1 speaker can be powered on, this was a good workaround and a great feature to have.
* Decent bass & rear sound. The subwoofer puts out a decent amount of bass, and the rear speakers provide a good Dolby surround sound experience.
* The app interface is much easier to use than using the remote control by itself and having to decipher the LED dots on the front of the soundbar. More options are available there to manage. There are similar options on the TV interface, but the app leads the pack here.
* The sound functions (WOW) worked well for the most part, and it does have an option to put into "auto" mode so you don't have to choose. The soundbar will automatically choose what would sound the best based on what you're watching.
* Because of the mids/highs, you can definitely keep up with the dialogue of what you're watching without a ton of background noise getting in the way.
CONS:
-----------
* The sound was acceptable after listening to it for a long time; however, if I started listening to this system after I had just listened to another system, it pales in comparison, even for lesser and other branded systems. There is a ton of treble output on this system even when I have the EQ treble turned down and the bass up. There just isn't a good happy medium that doesn't disappoint or just sound "weird" on the sound spectrum. I expected better overall sound. Having said that, once I listened to it for a while (10 minutes+), my ears got used to it, and it wasn't as bad. Let's just say, I was immersed in sound, but not as much as I would want to be.
* Having nothing but colored & blinking lights on the front of a soundbar (to me) is always a "miss". There should always be and LED display on the front that shows what you're doing when you can't use the TV or app interface. It's not difficult to include an LED display with a few letters. Even at this price point, it's a miss.
* This could be a CON or a PRO depending on your situation, but I believe more commonly, it would be a CON if you don't know "what" you're buying. When it is advertised as "wireless rear speakers", it's wireless; however, it's WIRED between the 2 rear speakers, and that doesn't always work out logistically in some cases. If you're going to make one speaker wireless, simply make the other one wireless. In this system setup, the LEFT rear speaker is plugged in for power, and speaker wire is run between the 2 speakers. So the right speaker does not have a power wire - just speaker wire. This means that you are limited putting the rear speakers the distance of your speaker wire and you may also have to hide the speaker wire depending on your situation.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* AI Sound Pro. LG claims this function will adjust your EQ in real-time based on what you're watching, but I personally did not feel anything changed from the different things I watched and listened to.
* Out of the box, the unit took a firmware update which took a few minutes with no hiccups. This was done via the LG soundbar app.
* The only connections are HDMI IN, eARC HDMI, and optical. There is a standard 5V/0.5amp USB connection as well.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
This system is not for the audiophile type. At this price point, I would expect more soundwise. The treble and dialogue really overtake the overall sound experience, and I want to have quite a bit more balance. Even after making adjustments in the app, I just wasn't able to make that happen in a way that would make me really enjoy this system to the fullest. The "wireless/wired" rear speakers was another questionable decision made - having it set up this way is really dependent of your setup at home. This might work well or it might not. I personally like to have little to no wires showing, so it may or may not be a problem for you. In the end, you have to be happy with your purchase and the features you actually paid for. In my case, this system left me wanting more and didn't have as much "immerseness" as one would like at this price point. For many, this system will be fine. Sound, after all, is unique to everyone and what they find acceptable. I already have 1 other LG soundbar from a past purchase, and it cost less and I got a better sound experience from it.

Just purchased this system to replace my old LG SNY6 soundbar. This is easily 10 times better!! True surround sound. More power and more bass! Easy set up and paired to my older LG 70” TV. Dolby Atmos alone is worth the price!! Hearing the music mode from my iTunes is like a concert hall. Definitely a great deal!

I had an older TV and just upgraded to the new new 65 inch LG C3 OLED TV. The picture on that TV is amazing!
I had surround-sound with my older TV, but it was a pain in the neck to set up. I thought I’d try the LG soundbar because the ease of set up, but I really wasn’t expecting too much.
What a pleasant surprise! The Dolby Atmos sound is top notch. The new soundbar comes with a subwoofer and has front speakers that go up and out, and the wireless rear speakers I have placed in the back of my room facing the TV. With the LG soundbar app, you can adjust the volume on each speaker. The WOW orchestra is a feature which combines the TV speakers simultaneously with the soundbar. It creates this high quality surround sound . It is just like going to a brand new theater. The setup is so easy. My LG TV recognized my soundbar and instantly worked. Just plug in that bad boy, grab a bowl of popcorn and prepare yourself for an immersive and powerful experience.

This is your typical entry-level surround sound system that has good immersive audio, no noticeable latency at all, rich bass coming from the sub, and a clean setup due to the wireless satellite speakers. It pairs nicely with my LG C2 (which already had a great sound), utilizing the WOW Orchestra to provide the added layer of audio.
It also integrates with the LG ThinQ app that allows near-full control of the system. Volume, Mute, independent DB control of the front and satellite speakers (more on that later), surround sound modes, equalizer settings etc. The only thing missing is the BALANCE. I happen to hear a little more in my right ear than my left, and didn't really notice it until I got this system. It would be perfect if we could adjust the balance.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Perfect for my smallish 20Wx12D ft living room

The speaker system is great. The only 5.1.1 sound system that actually impressed me. Easy to setup I thought I would sync things. Not at all.. I powered it on and it synced itself. Very good bass and Dolby atmos was sick. If you have a new LG tv the wow orchestra is amazing in cinema mode. The lg ai sound pro mode wasn't impressive once I switched it to cinema that impressed the heck outta me.

Bought this sound bar, subwoofer and rear speakers setup as an open box/used item which meant i got a grgeat deal on it. I decided on this LG home theater since I already have an LG TV and figured i'll keep it the same brand for a seamless integration. For someone who has never had a sound bar, this was such a huge upgrade from just using the TV's built in speakers. I got a small living room and with the rear speakers, it feels like i'm at the movies. The Dolby Atmos feature offers an even better immersive experience when watching movies and shows that support Dolby Atmos on certain services such as Apple TV. Highly recommend!

So I’m not an audiophile by any means but this sounds much better than our tv speakers, has Dolby Atmos functionality, and is relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other home audio options. Our tv is an LG OLED and OLED panels have really poor speakers so we got tired of having to turn volume up to 100 just to hear voices. Now we usually keep it around 20-40 and worry if we’re gonna annoy neighbors. It’s not gonna satisfy someone who’s really picky about audio but it was a vast improvement for us and is not too pricy

I paired this unit with my LG 55” OLED Evo C4. Setup couldnt be easier with the enclosed HDMI cable. Just connect ARC output on unit to TV ARC HDMI input. Select Speaker on LG tv remote and select TV Speaker plus ARC tv soundbar and it all hooks up together in LG WOW connection and the surround sound come alive. There is a soundbar remote but never used it because just use TV remote. 500 watts of power too! The separate surround sound speakers work great but are a little tricky to setup. Just know that you only need a power cord for one (left) speaker and the speaker wire carries power to the other one. The woofer sounds great also.
