Great TV, here's why. LG's 85 series Nanocell offers beautiful UHD Dolby Vision picture quality while streaming or gaming. I mean it's gorgeous. Sound quality with Dolby Atmos on Cinema mode provides a movie theater like atmosphere. While gaming on my PS4 Pro (sorry no PS5, but it's on my wish list) my 30fps looks better than it actually is. I've read a few reviews stating that some cons were the backlight and remote. I promise, that is a minimal annoyance if that. Also, a bonus feature is Art Gallery. This is a mode that displays masterpieces of art while playing piano music. Great for times when you want to relax here the piano and view artwork such as The Starry Night, etc on your big screen. Great buy for the price.

So this is honest review and I have no bias towards any brand. I’ve owned nothing but Samsung TV’s for for last 13 years. And I’ve been nothing but happy. This is my first LG TV and my first LG product in almost 5 years (cell phone). Personally I’m not a fan of LG but reading reviews I felt strong about there TV’s. First off I bought this TV because I just recently bought a PS5 and wanted to take advantage of the HDMI 2.1 and 4k. I’ll start by saying the picture using the PS5 is phenomenal. I have little to no complaints at all. The instant game mode runs amazing. The HDR paired with the PS5 is excellent and beautiful. The response time is also spot on. Now onto the 120hz feature. Very few games support 120hz 4k. And if they do support 120hz it’s locked to 1080p. So I’m unsure if the 2.1 is really worth it as of 3/27/2021 mostly because it’s seems niche in terms of you lose half your pixels to run at 120hz (120 FPS). (Catch 22 really). But as for normal 4k gaming, I don’t know that the picture could really be any better. It’s honestly that good! My one complaint about gaming is that I feel like the back light could be a bit brighter being as HDR seems to darken some images. Now onto your non gaming needs. One of the best selling points to this TV (and any LG) is the WebOS and the magic remote. The webOS is lighting fast and the magic remote works flawlessly. It’s adds a mouse like cursor to navigate the apps (Netflix, Disney+, Hulu ext.) that’s makes selecting your program a breeze. The 4k picture you get from using the built in Apps like Netflix I feel is unmatched and even better then using the PS5 or 4k Chromecast. One disadvantage of the WebOS is that HBO Max is not yet supported. Which stinks, but fortunately it has a screen share (Air Play) option which easily let me use my IPhone 11 Pro Max to stream my own videos, pictures or apps (HBO Max) at great high quality. My one and only real complaint is the same as others and that’s the light bleed. On movies with black bars because of aspect ratios, you definitely notice the light bleed through the blacks. Which is annoying as heck, but not a complete deal breaker. Some suggest changing settings to calm this, but unless it’s plugged in via HDMI, there’s no real option to change things like local dimming. With all that being said I feel like this LG85 is a excellent buy vs the price you’d pay for a true OLED TV. For 4k gaming it’s easily 5/5 stars for me. Onboard technology 5/5 Stars. Ease of use it’s 5/5 stars. Price 4/5 stars. Watching movies is the only downfall due to the bleed through its 3/5 stars. Making my overall opinion a 4/5 stars. Pictures show gaming, bleed through, magic remote, magic remote cursor.

Can't complain! Soo I went though the tcl serise 6 2020 which is cheaper; a qled, has a full array panel and it's local dimming is better. However, lgs nanocell is just a better and cleaner picture overall. Colors feel accurate, motion is better, gaming ready with lower input lag than the tcl, and HDMI 2.1 with freesync .. I mean it really depends what you prefer. You like alot of color and contrast? Then maybe Tcl serise 6 is for yoy. However I notice that it's way to over the top with certain colors that to me it loses its detail, but you get your big color gambit that for sure ... You want better motion, with gaming features, lg nanocell hands down! Don't listen to raitings or all these reviewers. You really got to see it and try it for yourself.

DO NOT BUY THIS TV. THESE TVS SUFFER FROM BACKLIGHT BLEEDING THAT CASUSES LIGHT TO SEEK THROUGH THE CORNERS. I SWITCHED THIS TV OUT TWICE AND BOTH HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS DUE TO THE EDGE LIT PANELS. I BOUGHT THIS TO GO WITH MY XBOX SERIES X BUT THE BACKLIGHT BLEEDING IS SUPER ANNOYING WHEN IT'S NOTICEABLE IN DARK SCENES. SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS. LG SUPPORT IS NO HELP SO DON'T BOTHER. THEY'LL TELL YOU THAT THEY'LL SEND A REPAIR TECH BUT NOTHING WILL FIX THIS ISSUE. SO DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. I SUCKED UP THE EXTRA $200 AND GOT THE SONY X900H 55" AND WHAT AN AMAZING DIFFERENCE.

I figured this would be a great guest room TV

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I figured this would be a great guest room TV. but I was wrong. Why? Because when we set it up in the guest room and turned it on, we immediately unhooked it and put it in OUR room because the LG Nanocell TV is so much better than what we had. Mind you the old TV (that's now in the guest room) is only a year old. Both TVs are LGs, but the new technology and amazing color made it the perfect television for watching sports, movies, and hubby's favorite auto shows. Setup is incredibly easy - simply snap on the 2 feet, plug the HDMI in from the cable box, plug it in and let that amazing remote control take care of everything else. We were able to set up all of our favorite apps and integrate it with Alexa quickly and easily (something that usually takes me a few days). I was shocked at how thin it was as we removed it from the box, making it an easy fit in narrow spaces.. My favorite part is that the technology is so easy that my hubby (who'd rather have a flip phone than a smart phone) has mastered using the remote control. He loves being able to push a button for Netflix and Prime as well as voice control on the remote. He's almost 68 years old and having all of this in the palm of his hand has expanded his horizons. He no longer calls me from the other room asking for help with the TV, and I was shocked to see him watching Netflix without asking for my help. I always had the feeling before that he didn't use these because he was embarrassed to not understand how to access the streaming services, but once I put in our account and password it's become second nature to him because it's LITERALLY in the palm of his hand now. Best of all is that picture. From day to night, it adjusts to the light making it easy to watch in daylight as well as those late nights when we can't sleep. I love watching movies on this TV. Yes, I went through all of the different picture qualities and love the cinema setting. I and even though there's a cinema option, I love the vivid setting, it makes me feel like I'm REALLY THERE. Now that I'm stuck in the house, I decided to buy Emma on pay per view and OMG, it felt just like being at the movies. I may actually have enjoyed it MORE than going to the theater because I could watch in my PJs, stop the movie when I went to the kitchen and play it as loud as I wanted. Of course hubby says the same thing about watching his car auctions on the VIVID setting. I only hope that's doesn't like it so much that he bids. LOL

    The NanoCell Has Me Nano-Sold!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've been torture testing this TV about month now, trying to learn the ins and outs and put it through its paces. I have a five year old, and I like to game a bit, so between animated kids shows, cinematic masterpieces, and any PS4 game I throw at it the Nano Cell technology in this TV doesn't disappoint! The way it filters the color and makes it pop is impressive. The picture is miles ahead of the plasma TV it replaced. The remote is one of the best parts of the TV, with a motion sensing cursor, voice control, and ergonomic design it completes the package! The little scrolling wheel in the middle of the directional pad is pretty handy too for endless Netflix scrolling. My only qualm with the TV has really been on black or real dark screens. if there is any sort of color (say, a logo in the bottom corner) the width of that colored image runs the length of the screen vertically in slightly lighter pixels. You can make it do the same thing waving the cursor around on a dark screen; anywhere it goes it lightens up the screen there. It's such a little thing to complain about, and really my only (petty) gripe.

I have had this TV for almost 8 months and use it on average an hour a day at bedtime. Two days ago it started turning itself off after a couple minutes of being on. It is stand mounted, has great ventilation and no timers. I’ve had to submit a warranty claim as there doesn’t seem to be a resolution on this.

    An excellent TV

The LG NANO85UNA Series, 55" is an excellent television. The picture quality looks amazing, it sounds great, and it has (or has access to) some good apps. I tested the 4K quality with some movies and video games; they looked amazing and I did not have any issues setting it up with my Xbox one X. The sound really surprised me because I have never had a television with great sound built-in. I usually settle for the included sound instead of going out and buying a sound system or sound bar so the built-in sound works best for me. The apps were nice and easy to use; the remote works well and was fairly easy to learn. There are a few flaws with this television but they were fairly easy for me to work around. The default picture settings were not ideal for me; I did not like that most of the default options had a warmer temperature set so the picture appeared a little dull and off color. I also found it odd how the energy saving option cannot be toggled within the picture settings if you try to select the backlight setting while it is greyed out. This was easy to resolve after playing with the settings. Another small flaw is the apps; my issue is directed more at the app developers, for example, YouTube does not seem to go higher than 1080p quality and HBO/HBO Max is not available. These have been my only real flaws with this television but I can work around these by connecting my Xbox one X or computer with a HDMI cable. Watching movies and TV shows on the LG NANO85UNA Series, 55" is great; when the picture looks amazing and sounds are excellent, it makes for a combo that makes the overall experience more enjoyable and entertaining. Compared to my old television, the LG NANO85UNA Series, 55" is significantly better in all categories. My previous television was smaller, heavier, lower picture quality, lower sound quality, and had no applications. I feel like it was a perfect time to upgrade and I have no regrets. After a few days with the LG NANO85UNA Series, 55", I decided to try playing video games on it and it surprised me with how well it worked with my Xbox one X. The games run smoothly, the picture quality is better than the computer monitor I normally use, and there doesn't seem to be any issues.

I purchased the 55" LG NanoCell. I haven't really tested out the 120hz refresh rate yet, but that is why I purchased this TV. I am still hoping to purchase a new XBox Series X, but they are hard to come by presently. I love the remote for the TV because it can control my cable box without any issues. The remote also has a cursor that you can move around that kind of reminds me of the old Wii controller. It also has a built in web browser for surfing the web and a cool dual screen that lets you have the web browser up and the TV input up at the same time. The one thing that bothers me is LG is one of the few companies that don't offer the HBOMax app. I can't understand how after all of this time I am still not able to put it on my TV. This reminds of the first smart tvs that came out that only offered a few apps that you hoped you had, but you couldn't add additional ones. I have a Toshiba FireTV built in 65" that cost about $400 less that has the HBOMax. However the Toshiba only has a 60hz refresh rate. I might have to buy a firestick or wait to stream it through my future XBox if I can every find any in stock! XD

I'm a avid PC gamer who recently picked up a RTX 3000 series graphic card, and wanted to fully take advantage of it's ability to play games @ 4K/120Hz. After weeks of researching monitors/TVs, I kept coming back to this set, LG Nano 85 Series 55". Most of the issues from reviews online have since been remedied by LG via firmware updates, such as G Sync/VRR flickering issues so if you purchase this set make sure to immediately update the firmware. I use this TV strictly as a PC monitor for gaming, since I have other TVs throughout the house for casual watching and movie binging. If you listen to some reviews and comments online, they could possibly steer you away from purchasing this series. The main reason being, that they focus on this TV's performance as it relates to movie watching, etc., stating that you'd be better served by a OLED set such as the LG CX series. Well...duh! Of course the LG CX sets the bar when it comes to picture fidelity and gaming performance, but it's cost twice as much as this set. If you are like me and plan to mainly game on this set and watch movies occasionally, the price to performance value can't be beat. As it relates to my gaming experience the picture quality is phenomenal with colors that pop(w/o HDR), with features such as VRR/Game Mode/G Sync compatibility all while playing at 4K/120Hz 12bit. Grant it, I don't game with HDR on, leaving that feature strictly to watching movies on my other TVs, however just for giggles I tried HDR on this TV and it isn't up to snuff due to it's lack to obtain 1000 nit brightness. If HDR is your thing and you must game with it activated you may be disappointed with its performance on this set. My final take is that if you plan to use this TV mainly for gaming, you won't be disappointed and you'll be saving yourself a load of money. Very few TVs can do 4K and 120Hz simultaneously, and the ones that claim to do so usually can only do either 4K @60Hz "or" a lower resolution @120Hz. Considering this series price point along with the performance/quality you'll get, this is a great set if you set your expectations appropriately.
