It does the job! I was looking for a way to play my DVDs on my Windows 11 laptop and it is awesome. It isn't as modern-looking as other more expensive options; it's plastic/more retro-looking, like when DVDs were actually a popular thing which is kind of cool. It comes with a DVD that has media player software to download but it is insanely old and you have to pay to use it which was a hard pass so I just threw that away. I downloaded a free media player online instead called VLC which works perfectly with it to play both DVDs and CDs.

I had an older Asus portable dvd player that still works well with computers but not with TVs. Also it requires 2 USB ports to function. Just purchased our first flat screen TVs and needed a dvd player that could be plugged in via the USB port. This LG player requires only 1 USB port to function and also works with all of our new TVs. Easy to switch it from computer to TV use and works well. Have not experienced any problems with playing audio CDs, dvds and data disks on a computer and dvds on the TV. Burning a disk is just as fast as the last internal drive I had. Have plugged it into 1 laptop and 2 desktop computers and it was recognized right away by each machine and burned data disks that work on other computers. Very light weight so easy to move around.

The downside: it is very lightweight and occasionally when ejecting a CD it has sort of projected itself off my desk. The was easily remedied by placing something with some weight behind it. The upside: it is so much faster than the CD unit in my iMac. It was ‘plug & play’ with my MacBook so installation took seconds. The speed of burning CDs and the budget-friendly price makes it a solid choice in my opinion.

Bought because new laptop came without CD player. Have used it so far to load software from CD. Works well as I expected. Looks good, compact and priced well. Only negative is that it is a bit noisy. I knew that going in since numerous other reviews mentioned the noise. When you are just loading data, it really doesn't matter. I haven't played a movie or music, but I don't think it is loud enough to interfere.

The disc drive was packaged well. It is slim and compact which works great for those with limited space (living in small rooms with or without roommates), no desk even! The tray can work for many CDs (Data, Audio), DVDs. Buttons make sense and it's easy to set up with the wires, attachments. The Instruction manual text is easy to read and the aforementioned instructions made sense.

My wife and I each purchased new MacBook Pro laptops, neither of which have a built-in DVD/CD player. When we needed to play a DVD for a presentation we purchased the LG DVD/CD player to connect to the MacBook Pro and it worked flawlessly. The price was very reasonable and we now have a way to still use our laptops for DVDs and CDs. We had no trouble connecting the LG DVD/CD player to our MacBook Pros.

I'm very pleased with my purchase of the LG - 8x External USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD±RW/±R/-RAM/CD-RW Drive. I would certainly recommend this to anyone. Plus, you get free bonus software with your purchase - added bonus! I enjoy how quick everything runs on the external USB disc drive. The drive can have some noise, but for the most part it runs super smooth and does a great job. Personal note: I'd recommend getting a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 extender so you can move the disc drive around a bit more as the length of the cable supplied with the disc drive isn't super long.

It works well. I used it to load several older programs from CD/DVD to the new mini-desktop that lacks a CD/DVD media drive and played a few music CD's in the office. Very much a plug and play device, Windows ID'd the device without any special set up required and with the high speed USB connections these days the programs loaded really fast.

Gone are the days where every computer needed a disk drive to run games, media, burn and write. Computers today almost no longer come with drives anymore since storage and internet has taken over. I occasionally like to run old DVD and cd games I have saved from years ago, and also needed a drive to record and burn images and videos. I took a chance and bought this during a lighting deal and I'm so impressed. First, I was impressed with how light it is. It has a nice build quality feel to it. Has a smooth finish. It connects via USB. Running Windows 10 on my newly built computer, it detected it immediately. Within 10 seconds I was already watching a DVD movie and also playing old PC games. When done, I simply unplug, tuck the USB wire into a slot that tucks it away, and save it for later use. For the price, I highly recommend this!

I bought a gaming pc that didn't come with a internal dvd drive.I needed to get one for my pc, so I decided to purchase this LG external dvd drive. It was easy to setup and start using with no complications. This LG external dvd drive works the way it should and would definitely recommend for the price.

I used this to convert my old CD’s to iTunes. It worked well for this purpose. It did take longer to download the music from the CD’s than I expected. On average it took 20-30 seconds per song. If I purchased a more expensive unit it probably would have cut the time in half, but the other drives I saw were twice the price. I think this drive was good for the value.

This item feels like cheap plastic but it has held up and been durable. Works flawlessly with plug and play and haven't had any issues yet. Only gripe is that it vibrates loudly but if you're listening with sound on, you won't notice.

I am very happy with this product. I and the wife each bought a new computer. Neither computer came with a disc drive but we have lots of software that is still on disc as well as music and photos. The external drive is convenient and quiet in operation. I still write DVDs to store photos from my hobby and this works great. I give this little external Disc Drive 5-Stars.
