4 phones ago, I owned an LG G3, then I switched over to the Samsung Galaxy S6, then to a Galaxy S7 active, later to a Samsung Galaxy S8 active. So I have been an active Samsung user, pun intended, for many years now, although my first smartphone was an LG.
To be honest I missed certain little features the LG had--I always like the screen interface, I guess what you call the skin, on the LG better, the placement of the physical controls on the back. I like the fact that you could activate the LG by tapping the screen.
When I had bought my LG G3, I had also bought my wife in LG G3, which she held onto all these years. Other than its becoming obsolete, her phone never gave her one bit of trouble. It was a solid reliable phone and still works. LG G3 and he has continued to work, until he wanted an upgrade is he got himself an lgv30.
I'm sharing this with you because I am not an LG biased reviewer nor do I hate Samsung. But I have noticed a lot of blogs that have attacked the LG continually for what I can consider to be very questionable reasons.
When one does a point-by-point comparison of the LG G8 to the Samsung S10 series, there really is no major difference except that the S10 and S10 Plus have a lousy fingerprint reader, unreliable 2D face recognition, and only a one-year warranty (LG has a two-year warranty).
The fact is that there are other little things that are not as well executed on the Samsungs as they are in the LG G8, particularly the security access. Samsung has never known how to properly design or place a fingerprint reader. And their 2D fsce ID is a joke.
My wife's phone was in need of a serious upgrade, not because it wasn't working, but because the technology has gotten so advanced and it was getting slow. It also didn't have all the security devices on it that are really needed on a cell phone today.
So I finally convinced my wife to get a new phone. But which one? The Samsungs are attractive. But my wife was already used to the LG operating system and despite all the unfair negative press against the LG G8, there were some articles that were objective and well done that showcased the phone more objectively and showed its strengths. I also knew my wife's phones my wife's and son's LGs had been very reliable. On top of it you get a two-year warranty. So I got her the LG G8. She loved it right off. It was easy for her to transition to and the phone has been working reliably and well.
I like her phone so much, I decided to trade my Samsung S8 active for the LG G8. I have no regrets. One annoyance I had on my Samsung he was constantly dropping calls in certain parts of the city and it had Bluetooth connectivity problems. I've had no such problem with the LG G8. I also like to 3 ways to access the phone: through a reliable fingerprint scanner, 3D face ID, and the hand ID. I find the hand ID quite convenient when I am working at my desk and want to look up something, because I do not need to pick up the phone.
One trick for programming hand ID is when you are in putting the data with your palm of your hand, don't stretch the palm of your hand, hold your hand naturally, don't stretch it. I find that works much better doing it that way.
I also like the speaker system. One annoyance I had with all my Samsung, and other phones was that if you hold it a certain way sometimes you block the speaker and you can't hear things. That is not a problem with the LG because the sound comes to the screen. Also has one last note I had problems with every single Samsung I ever had bought: I had to replace all of them through warranty do the different issues. One time it was a screen defect, two other times it was battery problems. Again during this time, my wife and my son had no problems with their LG phones.
So cut through the Appke/Samsung hypeband those negative, bissed blogs agsinst the LG G8, I suggest you consider this phone. I've had it for over a month and a half, and I do not regret getting it. I love this phone.

I am conflicted by this phone. It has the same performance as other top end flagship phones. It has almost as good cameras. It event has really good battery life (which is not something I can say about most LG phones). The fingerprint reader is not great though. It has a lot of partial reads that I just didn't get when I had a Pixel, or a Galaxy. To make up for that, the Face ID is great. It will often catch just enough of my face to unlock the device even when I'm not trying to unlock it. One frustrating thing is that I can't see any info from a notification without unlocking the device (I liked having the option to enable this on other phones).

I've had the phone for abut 2 weeks now. So far, everything has been great with it. Reception is as good as my last Samsung phone, screen is bright and vibrant, camera's are very good. I love LG's skin over android. It is much less intrusive than some other brands like Samsung. It's much closer to a pure android experience, but adds some nice touches. The size of this phone is perfect. I've had a few plus phones in the past, and they are just to big for me.
I don't understand why LG doesn't have a bigger presence at BB, but you should really check this phone out. You really can't go wrong with it.

The phone has a beautiful display and a great camera. The display is crisp.
The Android skin is a little feminine.
Overall the phones a great phone, I got the gray because A.T.&T. doesn't offer the red. I recommend getting the red. I think there's even a blue.
Build quality is good, fingerprints aren't that bad.
Screens responsive, has a lot of cool features like motion control, face unlock.
Best Buy has a great deal on the phone when I bought mine and I saved $650.00.

Very nice phone.
Just got it about 2 weeks ago and still learning the features. I had a flip phone before that so goodness knows a huge learning curve will be needed for the LG. :)
The few features I have programed worked flawlessly.
It's crazy expensive, but I have always liked LG products and the 2 year warranty was a nice perk.
Give it a try !!

Phone is awesome. Love the face unlock. Very responsive.screen is a good size for peoples who don't want a bigger screen size. With the latest SoC it runs pretty snappy. Overall I am happy with the phone and would recommend it for peoples who don't want apple or Samsung.

After about 1 year with the phone I am generally satisfied. Wish it was brighter in Sun light. Phone is fast, no lag and I use internet 6-8 hours a day. Battery life is good. With having screen on constantly, I can get 5-6 of heavy use. Currently having an issue with phone no longer chargung at fast 3.0 speed. Trying to get service from LG to fix that, and so far that looks like it will happen. Just now if I could get Best Buy to help me as quickly as LG. Been on hold for Best But 20 min.
Best Buy why don't you have a service that I can leave my number and it is my turn you will call.

Bought this when Bestbuy had the special upgrade promo. Much cheaper than comparable iPhones and Galaxy. OLED screen much better than the V35 I had previously. Camera is up there with the best and I've had iPhones, galaxies, huawei, and other brands. If LG keep this up, I'll definitely get another LG for my next upgrade!

Forced to Switch from a Windows SMARTPHONE that was losing features and Support from Service Provider and Microsoft. So why not a new release from LG. It is a new experience having to Download Apps to use whereas Windows phones were ready to go but then updates and Support was stopping little by little through 2019. So far so good fast no lockups and fair battery life it will have to do

Have used the device daily for over a year. The GPS is still inferior to Samsung offerings (long-time issue for LG) and the display can occasionally be a bit weird with how it auto-adjusts the color profile of the screen with indoor lighting.
Otherwise, it was launched at a much lower price than the S10 against which it was competing at the time ($600 from AT&T, versus $800+ for an S10). It does everything but GPS (which can struggle in larger/metal buildings) as well as pricier alternatives, so it is an easy recommendation.
