This player is by far one of the best out there in my experience. It strikes a nice balance between price and performance. I have an LG OLED alongside a projector and they both work well after you tweak some menu settings. What is most convenient is not having to manually set Dolby Vision with each title you watch like some other players. This was important to me with the content I watch. I have also tested many standard Blu-Ray titles, 3D Blu-ray, and some DVDs without issue. I have not had any issues with this player in my home theater. The only thing I can add is that it would be nice if the remote featured Bluetooth. That would be a big bonus but it isn't a massive downside.

    Great 4k Blu Ray

The 4k is fantastic and I have no complaints except that I wish my LG tv remote could control this like the Xbox and the speaker system. I bought an open box and it was a no brainer to upgrade to this quality. It upgrades standard blu-rays nicely also. The remote has to be directly pointed at the system to get it to work so I wouldn't think it would work very good in a cabinet with the standard remote. It is quite a bit larger than the comparable Sony that they had at the store but couldn't resist the discount.

I bought my first one on a whim due to the 3 bundled 4K movies, feature set (Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos),and the bundled Logitech universal remote. I didn’t hook it up for a week as I was waiting for my new 4K TV. So after I got the new TV set up and connected I proceeded to attempt to watch “Ant Man and the Wasp” in 4K. 30 minutes in and the screen would flash and go white while the power indicator LED on the front of the player dimmed noticeably. The only way to recover was by cycling power on the player. This issue would re occur every 30-45 minutes. The next day I returned to the store for an exchange. The second unit functions normally but I have two issues with it; there is NO built in screen saver functionality at all so if I want to pause my movie for any length of time I have to swap inputs to keep the movie image from burning in on my display. The second issue is the lack of downloadable apps but as I have an Apple TV this isn’t a deal breaker. I just wanted a solid 4K player for my movies and this does the job.

Probably the best Dolby Vision 4K player for price

I've now had the LG UBK90 for 2 months and I'm here to say that it's probably the best 4K Blu-ray player with Dolby Vision for less than $200-$300. Unlike Sony, the LG correctly plays HDR content where it should be such as HDR10 staying HDR10 and Dolby Vision only on Dolby Vision discs. The streaming app selection is indeed sub-par (only Youtube and Netflix), but I got Roku Ultra for my streaming duties anyway, not really a big deal for most people out there with Roku, Firestick, Apple TV, etc. The player is much less noisy than 2017's UP970 model, and so far I haven't encountered any freezing issues like some folks did. Like any other 4K Blu-ray player out there, the LG also supports Dolby Atmos (aka Dolby TrueHD 7.1) and DTS:X (aka DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1) immersive audio formats assuming if your receiver or soundbar has those decoders, this player has a separate HDMI-audio only input for those with pre-2014 receivers. Pros: -Great picture & sound quality -More quiet than the LG UP970 -Dolby Vision HDR support -Supports all USB video file codecs and most music file codecs -Ok remote control Cons: -Outdated UI -No HDR10+ support (although there aren't a lot of HDR10+ content anyway) -Only two streaming apps -Plastic-like build quality If you're like me & aren't digging Sony's HDR idea such as constantly having to turn on & off Dolby Vision for example, this LG UBK90 is the 2nd best thing for not a lot of money, recommended.

Plain no thrills 4k Blu Ray player!!!

As the title says, it’s a no thrills 4k Blu ray player. Only Netflix and YouTube apps are loaded, no more can be added and it plays 4k Blu rays, has ARC/eARC for quick setups and even has an extra HDMI out for audio only for your surround sound system versus using An optical cable. Linked right up with my LG C2 tv, LG S80QY soundbar and Harman Kardon receiver for surround sound. I ran the traditional HDMI out to the soundbar, soundbar to the tv all via HDMI ARC and the Audio Only HDMI goes to my receiver. This allows for me either watch a movie using the soundbar w/rear channels as a surround sound source or flip to the receiver and enjoy an even closer to theater sound when watching a movie. Plus why have streaming apps on the Blu ray player when they are on the tv anyways, let the Blu ray player do it’s thing of playing discs and not wasting resources on apps.

    Best Player I've Owned

Got this as gift, even if I did have to repay half later on. My 4k setup is finally complete. This 4k bluray player is excellent. I haven't used any streaming services thru it and probably won't but the disc playback is great. 4k disc popped right up and switched on HDR. Picture was great. No complaints to be had. But....there are a couple things other people considering this player should know before they get discouraged before or after buying it. 1. It doesn't come with a hdmi cable(everyone has them laying around or are easily gotten) just be sure to have/get a High Speed HDMI cable if you want full 4k capability. 2. A slight hiccup with playback of dvds. If you leave the settings on default you will see a purple screen flash every minute or so. This can be corrected easily and there is a reason for this happening. You must change the quality setting to 1080p and the refresh rate to 24hz. The picture still upscales and looks better. But when dvd was in its prime before bluray and HD came along, our tvs weren't that advanced. The refresh rate for SD is lower. And I think it's a bit much asking it to upscale all the way up to 4k. So just make yourself a note of the settings.

The other units I compared in this price range were the Sony UBP-X700, Panasonic DP-UB420, and the Samsung UBD-M8500. I quickly ruled out the Samsung unit since Samsung had removed itself from the 4K Blu-ray DVD market. There were a lot of bad reviews for the Sony UBP-X700 regarding freezing problems and the fact that you have to manually toggle Dolby Vision on/off for every regular DVD that is not Dolby Vision capable. Dolby Vision on will make regular DVDs look terrible on playback. Additionally, numerous reviews stated that the sound quality on the Sony unit was lacking. Dolby Vision is automatic on the LG unit so if you are playing a regular DVD it will make the adjustment for you and your DVDs will still look good. The Panasonic unit is a very basic and cheap in build quality. I settled on the LG UBK90 mainly because there were less negative reviews, it automatically handles Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and supposedly had better sound then the other units. Aside from all the reviews, I can say that the picture quality playing a 4K blu-ray is beautiful, but I haven't actually seen the quality playback of other players in this price range. So far I am satisfied with this LG unit.

So this is a great blue ray player for physical blue-ray but that's about all its good for unless you have Netflix or youtube you're going be out of luck because that is the only 2 apps that this thing comes with and the home screen looks like one of a DVD player I had way back in 2001 but your not going spend much time here. if your looking for a streaming box don't get this but for a blue-ray player yes you should get this

After using for a month now, I'd say I'm very pleased with the performance of this player. I was a little hesitant to purchase because I previously owned an LG bluray player that was incapable of streaming and had a remote that functioned poorly. This one was more expensive, but worth it. It handles discs and streaming just fine, although you're limited to Netflix and YouTube. No other app or streaming services are available. Functionality and look are great, it holds your place on the disc are shutting down, and I haven't had any glitches, remote issues, or network problems. If you're looking for a great 4k bluray player and feel this is a great value for your budget, I highly recommend.

Was looking for a good reviewed, basic 4K blu ray for the occasional red box rental. This player fits my needs perfectly. Very good 4K video with excellent audio and a great price point. However, few internal apps. but with a smart tv really not needed. No problem sincing with my WiFi so can take advantage of any updates. Overall just what I needed at a very good price.

I absolutely love this player. The picture quality is amazing. Pros: Dolby vision, HDR, ease of setup, design, compatibility with LG TV, quiet Cons: Disc tray doesn’t fully come out and takes getting used to (manageable), remote is generic Overall, the pros far outweigh the cons. It’s all personal preference with the cons I listed and I got over them real quick. I highly recommend this player.

Good 4k player. Purchased it mainly because it automatically reads Dolby vision enabled 4k disks without having to change it in the settings like a Sony player i returned. Have this connected directly to my receiver with an hdmi 2.1 cable and picture and audio quality is at it's best.

Very good 4k player. Played pretty much every DVD & Blu-ray disk I had, including the ones I created. My biggest negative I have is, the lack of apps it included. Only 2, Netflix and YouTube. The other, it's little on the big size (too wide).

I bought this player to replace my aging sony blu-ray player. I purchased a separate AudioQuest Sky 4k Ultra HD HDMI cable (for some reason the player does not come with its own HDMI cable). I purchased 4K Blu ray discs to test this player out. Jumanji, and Jumanji 2 were really fantastic. So was Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker. Movies are completely jitter free. The sound is spectacular. The contrasts are much deeper than 4K streaming of Netflix. I feel like yes there will be 8K, or whatever the future brings, but for now the 4K content is beginning to show up more frequently. I don't know about the longevity of the player (just bought it recently), but I do hope that the devices lasts for a long time. Will I recommend this player to you? Yes. With a decent 4K TV and a sound system to complement it,this player has the heft to play 4K content smoothly. You will enjoy it like I am. Cheers!

Great package deal with free universal remote and 3 4k movies for the price. Picture is amazing, set up simple and 3d capability is bonus. Only a couple of apps but our smart tv has all those so not needed for us. Knock a star off for that plus box like looks.

So I have a Vizio TV with Dolby Vision. When I bought it at the end of 2016, the only 4K players with DV were WAY out of my price range, also 95% of my movies are now digital. But some of the movies I really enjoy aren't available in UHD digital with or without DV, but are available on disc, I felt "left out". Also that I was not taking full advantage of my recent home theater overhaul. So I grew impatient for lower prices on DV compatible players and got a Samsung 4k player. I LOVED watching Transformers on 4K HDR disc, it was glorious. However I missed not getting the full potential of DV . Enter LG. With all the mixed reviews of the UP970 and the multiple delays of the DV firmware update, loud fan noise and disc read issues, I was hesitant to grab it. Glad I waited till this Gen 2 beauty. Transformers now with DV on disc (no streaming compression) feels like a brand new movie. Thanks to this player I can enjoy the likes of Transformers, The Matrix and IT in all their DV glory. If the price fits your budget...jump on this one.

Bought for my daughter in her apartment. Easy to operate and can play 4K movies along with all other formats such as Blu-ray and classic DVDs. Sound and picture are great as well. Not sure how they can improve movie experience any further...even with this. My daugher loves it.

The 4K quality is exceptional! It has UHD Dolby Vision and also plays 3D Blu-ray. The player also upscales 1080p Blu-ray to 4K very well. The only drawback it only offers Netflix via wired network.

I bought this to play 4k disks with my LG smart TV, and they work well together. It does play Dolby Vision with no fuss. This full width unit seems more substantial than some other brands. No display other than a power indicator, but it does have tray open/close and play buttons on the unit itself. I do like having the power supply in the unit; no bulky external power module taking up space on the plug strip.
