The monitor that does it all

The LG UltraGear offers you the best of both worlds when comes to gaming and cinematic movie watching. The ample refresh rate of 120hz means that from a gaming perspective high pace FPS ghosting should be a thing of the past while PC gamers utilizing the display port can reach refresh rates of up to 140hz. The question comes down rather or not the size of the monitor will effect gaming performance. Most gaming monitors offer high resolution without the sacrifice of refresh time. However One thing to keep in mind when going bigger on monitor size is all that space has to be filled and refreshed everytime a new slide comes in to play. That means that most FPS games putting out 4k quality can cause some refresh rate issues which can result in ghosting or lag and can translate in to input delay. Currently when testing the monitor out on console gaming, specifically PS5, refresh rate was locked in at a 120hz max and i could not seem to break past this point. The monitor does come equipped with gaming presets however neither one of them seemed to change this number. And quite honestly the refresh rate was fine as is. Never once did i experience any lag or break in the pixels. Picture quality was superb bring out vibrant rich games like Horizon with some of the brightest greens and reds i have ever seen on a monitor or TV. But more importantly games like that are very demanding and can cause refresh rates to climb reaching times of up to 2ms. Speaking of which some things i noticed about this monitor was light reflection was pretty bad. Outside light gets reflected back at times causing the picture quality to drop. This wasn't a huge deal breaker since i keep my gaming room pretty dark anyways and only have ambient lighting. The monitor seemed to perform better from a PC standpoint as connection to a display port allowed for overclocking speeds of up to 140hz. Plus this is where the use of G-Sync and Freesync allowed for more stabilized frames for FPS games like Call of Duty. However more picturesque games like Final Fantasy 14 seemed to get held back slightly with G-Sync on. Frame rates jumped about 10 more frames when i turned off G-Sync. The one gripe i have is the amount of real estate that this monitor takes up. It gives very little room for a PC or peripherals to be added to the desk (pending the size). Also for games like Warcraft , (that require a keyboard and mouse) you need to be up close to the desk, keep in mind that unless you have it wall mounted this will require you to be up close to the monitor which can cause some eye strain. However the picture quality and performance are so great that it was well worth it. Another thing i was actually quite surprised by was how good the factory speakers sound. The built in bass speaker gives those heavy fire fights a nice little extra punch. The LG Ultra Gear gives you more than enough power to handle anything you throw at it but not just that you can double it with a wall mount and also use it to watch movies with no sacrifice to quality what so ever. The built in speakers where so good i found myself using them more than my own Klipsch speakers. What your paying for is increased monitor size without giving up performance. And LG delivers.

    An exceptional gaming monitor

Verdict. I love the size, image quality, and exceptional performance of this LG 48” OLED monitor. The connection options provide fantastic convenience and versatility. The features are setup for gaming convenience and rapid adjustments. It has also enhanced my productivity. It is by far the best monitor I have owned. First impression. First “wow,” it’s big! When the box arrived, I was worried that the monitor would not fit on my desk. Once I opened the box to confirm the measurements, the second “wow,” the edges are so thin! I was very worried about taking this thing out of the box, and potentially damaging the edges or popping pixels. I prepositioned the stand, managed to remove it from the bottom, and gently set it on the stand. The base stand feels rough or rugged… I love it, it gives the feeling of Spartan minimalism and solid quality. After installing the screws on the base, you can hide all the screws with two covers. I had not even turned on the monitor yet and I was already impressed with the design and craftmanship of this monitor. I also immediately notice the mat finish on the screen… nice touch! Setup. I connected my “work” laptop (a high-end gaming laptop) that I use for video editing with the included display port cable, and my gaming desktop with the included 8k ultra high speed HDMI cable (thank you for that!). Then I turned on the monitor with the giant remote. And the third “wow,” this screen is just beautiful… Productivity. For my work laptop, I am working on 125% scale for added comfort. It could be at 100% scale to have more screen real estate… but why?! I have all the space I could ever want already. Plus, I pushed this monitor as far back as I could on my desk because there is so much to look at, so a slightly larger font size helps. This monitor replaced a four-screen setup, so I have it setup with four partitions using the Windows auto-window snaping/sizing, and it’s literally like having a grid of four 24” screens side-by-side. It’s amazing. It’s everything I ever wanted in productivity. The image quality and processing are out of this world. This monitor is also a dream for stock charting and trading (see pictures). You can setup all your charts and a trading window to be most effective. Gaming. Playing first person shooter games on this monitor has been a dream. Advanced settings are easy to access with the remote to fine-tune your gaming experience: you can turn overclock on/off, adaptive sync, crosshairs, and black stabilizer. You can also set two settings as quick access on the remote control when pressing down on the volume knob. And you can setup two different gamer profiles with custom settings, and quickly switch between them by pressing the game button on the remote. I only had a chance to play games on it for two days, but so far it has been epic. Games run beautifully smooth, even at max settings. I played Gears 5 and Halo Infinite over the weekend. Gears 5 has some really dark scenes and it was no problem on this monitor. It’s the first time I go through dark scenes without thinking about what I could or could not see. The colors in general are brilliant. What you get with this monitor is epic performance: 4k resolution, 1.5M to 1 contrast ratio, 0.1ms response time with 120hz (O/C 138Hz). The ambient lighting on the back of the monitor can be changed to different static colors, or to flowing colors, using the remote. If you are a serious gamer, I don’t think you can get a better monitor (AND experience) than this monitor. What I love: - Exceptional performance: beautiful resolution and smoothness of graphics - Display port and 3 HDMI 2.1 ports for highest gaming performance - The best built-in speakers I have had on a monitor - Mat finish to minimize reflection… this has helped me a lot in the morning when the sun hits a window just right in my office - The monitor height is perfect - The headphone jack at the center front of the monitor is very convenient. I love that feature - The screen design is gorgeous: beautiful base, almost no bezel, and razor thin width - The settings are ample and easily accessible with the giant remote - The ambient lighting is easily adjustable and looks awesome - It’s so big! I love it, but make sure your desk has space for it What I don’t love. - Huge remote! I think I would prefer a slightly smaller remote, mostly because it’s not easy to hide it on a desk when you are not gaming. Nevertheless, I understand that the size is purposeful; it is really convenient to quickly make in-game adjustments with this remote… it sits just right and the keys are super functional. I would still say that the remote could be thinner and still achieve the same functionality. On the plus side, it will be hard to lose this remote! - I wish I could turn off the auto-brightness adjustment. Can this be enabled through a software update? I don’t notice it when gaming, but I absolutely notice the screen brightness change when I am typing documents, editing videos, or just looking at charts. It’s distracting. I would like just a single brightness for most normal tasks. I am currently getting around this by setting up a game profile with high brightness, and every so often, pressing the game profile to bring back the same brightness on the screen. Conclusion. The LG UltraGear 48” OLED 4K Monitor is amazing. I love it in every possible way, except for the auto-brightness adjustment. Gaming performance is exceptional, with settings well thought-out for gamers. I am rarely so impressed with a new product… Well, I am so impressed by this monitor! It easily gets five stars. The price tag is high, but the value is there if you want the best performance in a gaming monitor. I highly recommend it.

For quite a long time, I’ve been trying to get my workspace set up with the ‘ideal’ equipment. In addition to my daily-driver computer (16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max Chip), I also use a 2021 12-inch iPad Pro (M1), and a gaming PC. So, I wanted something that would work as an external display for my daily productivity tasks, streaming video, gaming, photo editing, and video production. I’ve been using a 43-inch LG Smart Monitor because I wanted the larger size and I loved the built-in streaming features, but loved the idea of increasing my monitor size to this 48-inch beauty. This monitor is designed to work well for an immersive gaming experience. It has a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. The maximum resolution is 4K and a viewing angle of 178º. The screen is not curved, but that isn’t a dealbreaker for me. The monitor has a single DisplayPort input, three HDMI 2.1 ports, an Optical Digital Audio Out port, one USB UP port, and two USB-A ports. Here are some observations I made while using the monitor over the first few days of owning it. The monitor has an extremely thin body. This makes it great for using on a desktop or mounting to a wall, but it does make it hard to pull out of the box or positioning without touching the screen. Without its stand, the monitor weighs 34.2 pounds (with it - weighs 42.6 pounds). So, in order to keep it in the best condition possible, I would recommend that two people handle it while getting it out of the box. This monitor can be mounted to a wall. It utilizes at 300 x 200 mm vesa wall mount pattern. So, as long as you have a mount that can hold its weight and features that size mounting bracket, there shouldn’t be any issues mounting it to the wall. This is the first monitor I can recall having that I had to connect an upstream USB cable to in order to have power provided to the USB ports. I typically use those USB ports to connect accessories such as lights to the monitor. But I found that you can’t provide power to those accessories without connecting the monitor with the USB Up port. I’m not saying this is a flaw in the design, but to me, it seems different for modern monitors. The back panel of the monitor has built-in lighting, which I love. I typically add an LED light strip to the back of my monitors but I didn’t have to with this one since they already exist there. The built-in lights aren’t as bright as the strips I use, but it is bright enough to add gentle ambient light to my desk area. I also love the addition of the remote control. It is a large, bulky remote and I was surprised to have it, but after using it for a few days, I’m really glad to have it. It would be nice if the monitor would auto-detect devices that are connected, but since it doesn’t seem to, the remote makes it very easy to access the input options as well as the menus for settings. I wish it was rechargeable, but I can overlook that as long as the batteries last for a while. It’s been very responsive with detecting inputs and it also provides an on-screen prompt to let you know when there is a device connected to an input. The monitor has produced a gorgeous picture for me — no matter what I’ve been using it for. The blacks have been very black and the screen is very bright. The colors seem to be very vibrant and there are a lot of presets to work with in the monitor’s menu system. Motion has appeared smooth to me and I’ve used the monitor for a variety of tasks — including gaming and photo editing. When I hooked the monitor up to my Xbox One X and PS5 I was shocked to see a difference in my game play. I could tell a difference in the refresh rate. Well I think I can. Everything seemed more fluent when playing. I really enjoy the easy switching from from device tot he other using the remote. I just need more room on my desk for all of my gaming gear so I can take advantage of the monitor for everything I use. So far, I’ve found that this monitor works well with my MacBook Pro with M1 Max, my gaming PC, and even with my iPad Pro. I have the MacBook Pro connected via a Thunderbolt dock to the DisplayPort. The gaming PC used an HDMI port and the iPad Pro connected to the monitor through an HDMI port via a USB-C hub. I did find that I had to change a setting on the monitor in order for the colors to look right on the video signal coming from the iPad. Overall, this is a great monitor with a lot of features to offer. I don’t have any major complaints.

The specs speak for themselves. OLED, 120Hz, HDR, G-SYNC and FreeSync. This checks all the boxes to qualify as the best monitor today. There is something to be said for having a screen this size. It’s just theatrical and very relaxing to look at. 48” is indeed the largest size display you could put on a desktop and not be forced to look up at it. The stand is low enough to place it at eye level at desktop height. Input placement would have been better to have on the right rather than left since I’m sure most people have their CPU on that side. But it still reaches nonetheless with the supplied cables. Including a USB-C would have been a good feature but I was able to connect a laptop using and adapter. Having a remote for a monitor might seem funny but it’s needed since this size of screen is best placed farther away than you can easily reach. The matte finish is a big plus otherwise you’d be looking at your own reflection in a screen this size. The styling is nice, super thin screen, the backlights add a nice touch. Overall it’s tame and understated which I prefer. As a gaming display, it’s mercifully free of settings for different picture modes etc. There are enough adjustments available without being obtrusive or overly complicated in that regard. 120 Hz is nice even for tasks like home office use but of course fantastic for gaming where this really shines. First-person games appear almost at a lifelike size which is just amazing.

The monitor is easily quite big, but obviously that's no secret. Even though my desk is deep I thought it might be too much, but I adjusted gradually and really came to like this beast. The G-Sync, 4K, HDR, and especially the OLED features of this screen make it a masterpiece, combined with the accent lighting. My only critique is that I wish the accent lighting could mirror the colors on-screen. Such a missed opportunity. But nonetheless, it is incredible, and if your eyesight is good, you MUST leave the Windows resolution at 100% to use the screen real estate to its fullest!

I've been using this for almost a month. I have used to to edit photos and some odd digital work, but I mainly use this for watching online media and ..of course GAMING. I was on the fence about going OLED, but with the Totaltech Membership it adds some security. Now having used this, I can say that it has been wonderful. The colors and darks are so crisp and now when for example I am playing an older game like WOW it just pops and excites me like I'm back in 2004. Now, it is large, like very large. You need to make sure you desk can handle this. Or do what I did and mount this on the wall. Freed up my desk and allowed me sit just a td further back. The RGB colors on the side are a nice feature with out being overdone and as long as you take measures like allowing it to do its pixel cleaning when you shut down and hide your task bar I think this will work well for years to come. I would consider this just as important as getting a good GPU, as if you are like myself I don't upgrade every new generation, more like every other or sometimes 3 gens. I foresee this being my setup for many years. I got this for a steal about 950.00 and who knows this could go for less soon. Don't hesitate, it's large and in your face but you will adjust and it can be used for more than one use.

I have had the monitor for about a week, It's an amazing monitor for gaming and media (streaming video). First off, the screen is huge, it seems like it might be too big but once you set it up and see how much you can fit into one window it's very hard to go back to a smaller screen. The productivity is amazing, i am streaming a huge netflix window, browser window open, file folder open and there is still room to spare. The design is pretty cool, it is extremely thin, the LED lights on the side are nice and give of a nice afterglow against the wall. The remote is a bit clunky looking but it's pretty useful. It's nice to switch screen modes without fumbling for any hidden buttons on the underside of the screen. It's pretty easy to toggle between game modes or inputs, if the eye strain is too much it's simple enough to go to reader mode. The screen is vibrant and the blacks are pretty rich, the benefits of an OLED screen. It's like being at the movie theater in your own home, lol. The gaming is very SMOOTH, there isn't any motion blur that i noticed and i use the Display Port for a wider bandwidth. The GPU i have is the Nvidia 3080 and the screen takes advantage of the AMD freesync and the 120hz refresh rate. The refresh rate is awesome but combined with the dark blacks and vibrant color this monitor is a must for gamers and media streamers. The screen also features different modes that display, such cross hairs or my favorite FPS display mode. It's fun to see the high frame rate while you play. Definitely an awesome monitor with alot of features , just make sure you are ready for screen size and the space it will occupy. I have yet to feel any eye strain or headaches. Another bonus is the OLED screen does not give off heat, my old LED 34 inch was like having a heat lamp in your face. This one has no drawbacks yet that i can find.

This monitor is a television with a fantastic refresh rate! It’s a steal whether you are looking for a gaming monitor, work computer, or television! This OLED has some tubular colors and perchance the best picture I have seen on a large “monitor”. Only downside is the size, not really ideal for a desk and sitting 3-4ft away. YOLO

I use this monitor for graphic design, and it's everything I wanted in terms of picture quality, size, technical performance, and more, with one annoying exception: There is no way to defeat the auto brightness function (contrary to some reviews I've seen), which causes the screen to periodically darken. It's easy enough to snap the display back to its proper brightness, but this happens with enough regularity to be bothersome when working, as I frequently need to check that I'm monitoring at the proper brightness level before making critical adjustments to color, contrast, etc. The unit itself is sleek and beautiful; the remote control is clunky but functional. The built-in speakers are surprisingly good (at least for desktop monitoring). Overall, it's a stunning display that's a pleasure to look at.

Simply amazing. I love that it turns on and off with my pc. It has awesome color accuracy (not as great as a traditional OLED, bc of the matte finish) and goes an amazing job against light or reflections. It has everything I need- 138 refresh rate with display port, great color accuracy, huge borderless screen (you get used to it). It even has great ambient light in the back, which looks great and not overkill. I play on a controller, so I have the luxury or backing up, but on average I am about 2-3 ft away. I have a shallow desk, and I would recommend either wall mounting (like I did) or pair this with a deep desk. I would not go back to a traditional monitor after experiencing this.

I had high hopes for this monitor. I already purchased the LG 32GQ950 and it has been a dream. With this being essentially a C1 adapted into a monitor I thought this was going to be special. I had planned to use this for console gaming, TV (via 4k fire stick), and cinematic PC gaming. What I noticed off the back is it is extremely bulky and heavy. The lighting system should have been implemented differently or not added at all. I did appreciate the matte screen because it really helps with mitigating reflections in a lit room. Once I turned it on it looks gorgeous and the blacks are intense when compared to the LG 32GQ950. The 32GQ950 is an amazing IPS panel with the ATW Polarizer assisting with IPS bleed but without FALD and limited zones it still struggles with uniformity within dark scenes; however, the 48GQ900 does not have this issue whatsoever. Also, it being a 4k OLED with a display port and can overclock to 138 hz is a huge seller for PC gamers. Unfortunately, the one I received had 4 dead pixels which forced me to return. I went ahead and grabbed the C2 42 inches instead and I’m much happier with this purchase. It is physically lighter, has eArc, Dolby Atmos, and still can do 4k 120 with Gsync compatibility. I can now plug all my consoles, my pc, and still have apps for tv if I choose. I think the first monitor implementation was good, but I hope the future one is 42 inches without a bulky lighting system, and they add tv apps or an additional hdmi 2.1 port for gamers who run (Series X, PS5, Switch OLED, and a fire stick). I don’t want to give it less than 3 stars because my experience is subjective, and the dead pixels may have been a 1 off. I do think many people would agree that a smaller iteration and tv apps or an additional hdmi 2.1 port would be ideal. For now, I can only recommend grabbing the C2 42 in for PC/Console gaming and hope LG drops a monitor that is more similar to the C2 42 in in the future.

The auto dimming is not bad when you're playing games but will probably annoy you if you use this monitor for work instead of gaming. As a gaming monitor it's amazing. OLED deep blacks. I have it paired with a 2080ti so i have to either put graphics on low in games or lower the res. Games look stunning in 4k. Make sure you have a big desk. I have the monitor around 4 feet away from my head. Some games run around 60-80 fps, but i guess because of g-sync and the response time it feels faster than that. I thought the lower fps would annoy me because i've been playing 1080p 120hz+ monitors for awhile but it's smooth !

Pros: - the depth is amazingly short so the display can be pushed all the way back, pretty close to the end of the table, giving you good space between screen and seat. - Love the look of the remote, for some it might seem unnecessarily large. - Picture quality is great. I don't really see a difference in quality between this screen and my previous 49" Samsung G9 non OLED screen. - Had ambient LED light in the back. Cons: - Has 4 Inputs but doesn't support picture in picture like others in this price range. This screen only supports one input at a time !!! I expected to run 4 cables to this screen from the graphics card to essentially use 4 screens in one ( 2x2 grid). This would have been extremely useful to increase efficiency using it for work. - No buttons on the display, without remote you are pretty much screwed. Important: - I never had an OLED and had vertical lines which usually indicates problems for a non OLED screen! I guess there is something like image cleaning/pixel cleaning for OLED screens. I was ready to return the screen that's how bad it looked but found a solution: - Tap once on the dial of the Remote - Select 'OLED Care' - Select Image Cleaning - Select 'Yes' If the issue persists do the same with Pixel Cleaning. If it still looks bad after these actions, I would call support. Note: - It looks like burn in is a thing with OLED? so by default it is set to move, so if you see your desktop slightly shifted a few pixels off the screen (freaked me out because I thought something was wrong), that's the reason. To fix this while you are working, tap the dial of the remote, select 'OLED Care', select 'Screen Move', select any Mode and it should place your desktop perfectly again.

Stunning picture quality it comes with a panel QC writeup as well as a factory color calibration. Coming from a 4K IPS monitor the leap in image quality is absolutely 110% noticeable and wow your games never looked better. Heads up it does a auto pixel refresh after so long when you turn it off it will let you know. Some people have what looks like banding on grey backgrounds etc this will go away after a couple pixel refresh and I was told it was normal. Anyway snag it at the sale price and enjoy!

This is the first time I’ve used an oled monitor. I’ve seen oled tv’s but using one as my primary monitor is totally game changer. Everything looks gorgeous! I can see how some people may complain a bit about the dimming but I found that over time I’ve gotten used to it.

Awesome monitor! I was considering a C3 in the same size but for $350 more and no display port this was a no brainer. Considering all the devices for cable and streaming you can attach why waste money on a tuner, besides the remote concentrates on all the settings you like for gaming at your fingertips. Since the oled panels come from LG who would make it any better? Have tried my gaming rig, xbox series-x and a ps5 and the performance is buttery smooth. I sit about 4 feet away since I also have a smaller monitor on my pc. Oh yea, the center stand is also convenient! Pull the trigger, you won't be sorry...
