Customers are enthusiastic about the WĀKE Series case's lightweight design and protective qualities, with many praising its ability to safeguard their iPads from drops and falls. However, some users found the case challenging to install and remove due to its snug fit and rigid construction. The case's material, sourced from recycled ocean plastic, also received positive feedback.

Environmentally Conscious iPad case

As an environmentalist, I love the concept of ocean plastic recycled items coming on the market these days. This Lifeproof WAKE series, 85% ocean plastic recycled iPad case is one such device. Made of hard moulded plastic, this case is designed to protect your iPad from trips, slips and falls.
The case is attractive matte black, made of plastic that is really inflexible. The wave design on the back provides ample grip, though I’d have liked more grip. The case is thin and light. I am sure the case is more than adequate in protecting the iPad when accidentally dropped, but there are still things I am not a fan of.
What I do not like about this case is primarily due to what I deem is its design flaw. The hard plastic case is impossible to get an iPad 8th generation into it without forcing it. I struggled to get the iPad into the case and then struggled to get it out. When you do get the iPad in, it’s hard to use the buttons on the top (power) and side (volume) as there is no give. This area for one should have been a softer more malleable plastic or TPU or left open. The lack of a screen protector cover is another (something I prefer to have and have on my other iPad cases). I am also not a huge fan of the basic black case. I like colours…
That said, it’s a fine case, and it does help protect the environment in its recycled and reuse of ocean plastic, however, its flaws need to be taken into consideration, particularly the difficulty in getting the iPad in and out of the case and the button accessibility.

Hi TheStigenator,
We're glad to hear you're a fan of the use of recycled plastics and the look of the LifeProof. We are sorry to hear this case was so hard to install on your iPad (8th generation). The case will fit your device snuggly to ensure your device stays protected. The buttons on the WAKE will soften up just a bit with a little time and use. If you should need any assistance or have any questions then please give us a ring at 1-888-533-0735.

The LifeProof WAKE case (not sure why they named it that as it doesn’t have a front cover that “wakes” the case when it’s opened) offers good protection without adding much bulk. The case is made from recycled materials so I definitely applaud Lifeproof for trying to solve the plastic problem in the ocean. The case is very rigid which can be both a plus and a minus. The minus being it can be tough to get the iPad in and out of the case. I found it to be easiest when I put one side in then worked to get the other side in working from the top where the power button is, to bottom. It will appear that one corner is not fully seated, but I believe it’s like that to make it easier to remove. If you have limited hand strength this may not be the case for you as it could be tough to get it in and out, for this reason alone it really is a 4.5 star product to me.

I hate writing negative reviews, but this product was just awful. Liked that they use recycled plastic in the manufacturing process. But I couldn't even snap my iPad into it. Confirmed and re-confirmed that my iPad was the right model for this unit. The volume and power button access was hard-molded and impossible to use. I immediately returned it for credit at my local store and bought an Insignia model that works great.

This case feels extremely durable in my hands. The texture is a bit smooth, but not so smooth that it will slip out of my hands. It does have a bit of a ridge on the outside making a border to make it a bit easier to hold onto.
It was very hard to put this cover on. I had to press pretty hard on the last corner to get it to go on all the way. This is probably the tightest fitting iPad cover I have ever had. Once it is on, it is not going to fall off. It is slightly thicker than the iPad, so if you set it down with the screen down, the screen is protected as the screen will not touch the flat surface under it. The case is higher than the screen.
It seems like it will provide good protection if the iPad was dropped. It should also protect the screen somewhat with the raised edges.
My only complaint would be that it was so hard to put on and I would like the case to feel a little less slick.

This Lifeproof Wake iPad case shirt fit iPad 7,8,9 gen and according to the packaging, it is also made from 85% ocean-based plastic which in theory is a nice idea.
There’s something about this case that I do not like, it is too hard, doesn’t have any soft padding on the inside to not scratch your iPad for example, and it just looks like it’s 3-D printed which is not really a good thing. Once I put this case on my iPad, it was very difficult to get it off. overall I’m just not impressed with it.

Hi Ernesto,
We're sad to hear you aren't impressed with the WAKE. The LifeProof won't damage the device by itself. Once the case is installed it is designed to fit snug to make sure your iPad stays safe and sound in the case. We'd be more than happy to share your comments for further evaluation though. If you need assistance or would like to discuss this further then please call us at 1-888-533-0735.

Attractive, protective cover for your iPad
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
LifeProof – WĀKE case for iPad is made primarily from waste plastic/vinyl materials recovered from the ocean. The case is attractive with a tactile wave pattern on the back of the case.
The power button and volume buttons are very clickable just as they would be without the case. All the openings for the iPad’s mic, sound out and cameras are perfectly aligned. The bottom of the case, where the speakers and lightning connector are located, has a long notch cutout so these items are clear of the case, but the cutout doesn’t extend to the corners, so you have the same protection at all four corners. There is no cover over the screen, but the case has raised edges that raise the screen when lying face-down on a desk or other flat surface.
The LifeProof WAKE case is very rigid – not rigid as hard plastic, but the material is quite hard. It will flex somewhat as you handle it before your iPad is installed, but the corners are quite rigid. I found that snapping the last corner over the iPad was something of a chore. I wrestled with it while exerting quite a bit of pressure with my fingers to get the last corner of the iPad to settle into the case. This is my only negative regarding this attractive, durable case. I would recommend to the manufacturer that they make the corners with a bit more give to them so that installing the case doesn’t require so much muscle. Frankly, I’m not sure how I would go about removing the case now that it’s installed. However, this is an attractive, durable case that should provide the protection you need for your iPad.

Ocean Based Plastic

I am using this with my son’s 7th generation Apple iPad. The fit is tight and snug and should protect his iPad nicely from most normal risks of damage. Getting the case on and off is somewhat of a task so I would only recommend this case to someone that is not going to be taking the case off frequently.
This LifeProof case is made from ocean based plastics and is marketed as environmentally sustainable. The plastic has a distinct feel to it and does not look or feel like traditional plastics. It has a very rigid feel. It is very lightweight and does not add much to the iPad weight.
If environmental impact is a priority for you, then this may be the case for you. If you like the traditional look and feel of silicon or plastic then you might not like this case.

Slim and lightweight, but rigid and slippery
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The LifeProof WAKE series case for the iPad is very slim and lightweight, and the fact that it’s 85% recycled plastic makes it more eco-friendly than other options. That said, the plastic is all rigid which seems like it provides less protection than options with some flexible TPU or silicone construction. Also, while the back is textured (designed to look like ocean waves, I guess), the case is fairly slippery all around. I prefer something that’s a bit more “grippy” so I’m less likely to drop my iPad.
Getting my iPad into the case was fairly easy, and it fits quite snugly inside. There’s a slightly raised edge around the screen on three of the four sides to provide a bit of extra protection.
This case has floating covers for the volume rocker and top button that allow for them to be used with a satisfying clicky” feedback. There are also cutouts for the headphone jack, rear camera, and microphones. The bottom edge of the iPad (with speakers and Lightning connector) is mostly open except at the corners, while the smart connector is completely covered.
Overall, this seems like a decent option if you want something low profile and slim, and aren’t too worried about preventing or protecting your iPad from falls.

Rigid and Tough to Install

This case is a hard plastic with a wave design and texture on the back. This design and texture do provide good grip when holding and using the iPad. I am using it with an iPad 8th Generation. However I had one heck of a time getting this case onto my iPad. I could get 3 corners of the iPad in but I felt like I was going to break the iPad trying to get the 4th corner in. At one point in the process I was ready to give up and tried to take the case off, but that was proving to be nearly as difficult as getting it on in the first place. I could not get it off so I reversed course again and just kept trying and eventually got the 4th corner of the iPad to fit in the case. Now that it is on, I am fairly confident it will not come off anytime soon.
The case is lightweight and appears to provide protection but getting it on and off is difficult and will really test your finger strength.

There are a couple of things to note with this LifeProof case for Ipads generation 7-9th. First of all, it only covers the back side of your Ipad, so you might think about getting a screen protector to ensure you don't scratch your screen. Secondly, if you are getting this case it is because you are looking for something light weight. The case is a matte black with a wave pattern. Third, this cover fits really nice an tight. That being said, you know that it won't ever slip off, but it is also kind of a struggle to put it on. The cover seems to be very sturdy, not flimsy at all, but the downside to that is that the power and volume buttons on this cover don't have a lot of give to them. Maybe over time, they will loosen up. Lastly, for me, I like that this cover was made from 85% ocean-based plastic. I am all for products that are environmentally conscience.

The LifeProof - WĀKE Series case is a good option for your iPad. My son needed a new case for his iPad and I decided to give the
LifeProof - WĀKE Series case a try.
The fit is tight, so it can be a bit difficult to put on. I found that staring from the bottom and working my way up was the easiest way to get the case on. Make sure that the case snaps on all the way. The case feels a little on the thin side, and the edges aren't raised high enough for my liking, but I really hope that they protect my son's iPad. I would definitely recommend a glass screen protector along with this case (seems like it will work). I am a bit skeptical about how protective this case will be, but it being a LifeProof case, I feel like I can trust it.
Overall, I really like the looks of the case. Most importantly, I like that it does not add on too much weight to the iPad and is comfortable around the hands. Only time will tell if it will hold up to drops.

The LifeProof Wake series cases are really unique in their ocean based plastic construction (and marketing). This is my first look at an iPad case that doesn't have a keyboard and I found that it feels extremely well made and very protective of my iPad without adding much bulk. The wavy back texture is extremely cool and stands out from the crowd.
My only complaint is that the case is made with extremely tight tolerances, so it is very difficult to get on and off - to the point that you feel like you could damage your iPad in doing so. For my use case (a tablet that my kids play with) it is totally fine, but for my main iPad I would want something that I could easily swap my iPad into a keyboard folio when needed.

I love Lifeproof cases & have my phone in one now so I thought this would be great for my iPad, I was wrong. This is so stiff & has no flexibility that it was very hard to put on, felt like it wasn’t made for my iPad & it was. Once it was on it was impossible to get off, it even cracked my screen protector by trying to take it off. There was no snap on/off installation. I’m all for the recycled ocean plastic it’s made of & how the sleeve is recyclable but the fit & installation is just terrible.

Hey 30stmrox,
We're sorry to hear you aren't a fan of your WĀKE case and the fit of the product. The LifeProof will be somewhat stiff on your iPad to ensure your device stays in place and doesn't go anywhere, but it shouldn't be as rigid as this. Please keep in mind we're unable to guarantee our products will work with third party screen protectors. If you are using our product and would like a replacement screen protector and case then give us a ring at 1-888-533-0735 for assistance with a warranty claim.

Simple and adequate protection

I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review.
I’ll keep this short and sweet - the LifeProof WĀKE case is made out of plastic that feels high quality, provides simple and adequate protection for drops where your iPad lands on its edges or back, and is easy to install and remove. The fact it’s made mostly from recovered sea plastic is a nice bonus. Keep in mind that you will need a screen protector of some sort if you’re planning on being active or allowing children to use the iPad with this, as it doesn’t provide screen protection. But all in all, I recommend this case for most people with iPads and other tablets that want a simple way to protect their device.
