The LIFX – Clean A19 smart light bulb is an intriguing mix between a smart, color-changing light bulb and a bacteria-killing HEV light. This is an innovative product but I’m a bit skeptical when it comes to the effectiveness of the HEV Clean Cycle and I didn’t really have any way to scientifically test this functionality. Setup of the bulb was pretty straightforward: install the bulb, turn on the light switch, and then connect the bulb to the downloadable app on your phone. This was the easy part which is ironic because the only instructions that came with the product were instructions for this initial setup, the easiest part which really didn’t require much explanation. Beyond that, you are left to simply play with the app and try to figure everything out on your own. I am normally pretty good at messing around with settings and figuring out how things work but for whatever reason, the design of the app and lack of clear instructions was a bit frustrating for me to work with. All that aside, I do really like being able to control the brightness and color of the bulb and one of my favorite features is the Color Cycle setting which allows the bulb to slowly change colors over time. I mainly use the light in this setting in my bedroom for mood lighting but suspect that I could probably find a cheaper bulb that does the same thing. I don’t rely on the HEV Clean Cycle but I guess it is nice to know it is there and it certainly isn’t hurting anything unlike UV cleaning lights. With all of this in mind, if you’re looking for a color-changing smart light bulb that has some minor cleaning benefits, I would still recommend the LIFX – Clean A19 smart light bulb, but if you only really want a smart light bulb that can change colors, you might be better off purchasing a cheaper one that doesn’t have any sort of cleaning functionality.

LIFX Clean is the new smart light bulb on the market with an interesting feature that disinfects surfaces and items when its scheduled-on top of the regular smart bulb features like its earlier models. Like its previous models, this smart bulb does not require any hub, bridge and connects directly to wi-Fi and supports most voice enabled devices like Alexa, Google, Siri and works with SmartThings. What differentiates this smart bulb from others is that it emits a clean HEV (High Energy Visible) blue light via an array of LED that kills range of bacteria (salmonella, E. coli, MRSA) on the surface. Its better to be used as table light with adjustable arm for effective disinfection as the distance plays a major role. You have the option to set a clean cycle in the app and it’s recommended to use at night when no one is around. It will take anywhere between 2 and 12 hours for effective disinfection and is not for killing virus. This bulb is 1100 lumens and is safe for human and pets unlike UV lights which is dangerous when used incorrectly. App is very intuitive and easy to navigate. Since this bulb works with Apple HomeKit, it works flawlessly with iOS Siri. Scheduling and voice assistants work well with no issues. Not sure if the price will be justified for the new disinfecting feature and only the time will tell how effective it is. Overall, suggest only to purchase this model if you are planning to disinfect small surfaces/ few items on a desk on top of full functional color smart bulb.

Wasn't exactly sure what I was getting with this lightbulb but it does almost everything! LIFX Clean fits in a regular A19 socket, isn't hugely oversized and is controlled by the app on your iPhone for LIFX. It is also works on Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, SmartThings and IFTTT. Set up is fairly quick and easy once you create an account and log in to your old 2.4 Ghz WiFi. The app allows you to update the firmware right out of the box. First, I tried it in a table lamp but the bulb points up at the ceiling so the Clean Cycle blue light wasn't exactly pointed at the HEV function test card on the table below. HEV claims it can kill up to 90 percent of S. aureus and E. Coli on surfaces depending on time and distance. Defaults to 2 hours but time can be increased or decreased in the app. Suggests at least an hour for Clean Cycle. Bulb seemed more suited to a bathroom or kitchen where surfaces may need Clean Cycle more often. Realized I don't have any single bulb lights anywhere so installed in the middle of a 3-bulb fixture over a bathroom sink. I can increase the brightness up to 1100 lumens for shaving and hair cutting while only using 11.5 watts LED which is about equivalent to a 75-watt bulb. Multiple choices for lower lighting needs in the app. Colors, patterns, sequences, etc.... If it is in a single bulb fixture that can have the switch left on all the time you can program the light to turn on and off or run the Clean Cycle at specific times. HEV light says it is safe for us and pets so I have been running it for 30 minutes after shaving while in the shower and getting dressed. It points down at the sink, faucet, electric toothbrush and any containers on the sink top. If timer has not turned light from Clean Cycle blue back to white by the time, I am ready to leave for work, I can just switch off the bathroom light and it defaults back to normal. Couldn't find anything in the minimal instructions or on the website about the regular bulbs on each side of the LIFX Clean bulb diminishing the effectiveness of the Clean Cycle. Life Expectancy is 22.8 years! Yearly Energy Cost is $1.32! I'm really impressed but would suggest this bulb for single fixtures to take advantage of the programmable features.

In a time when we're being mindful of surface contact and the presence of microbials in our homes, it's nice to have the LIFX Clean smart bulb as an additional option to take that extra step in protecting ourselves. With innovative smart functions, easy installation, and a dedicated app, the LIFX Clean is a great choice for any smart, health conscious home. The bulb itself is like any smart bulb, plugging into your standard lamp base or socket and is ready to go. The instructions give you multiple ways to get networked, either through the LIFX app, Apple HomeKit, or via the Alexa app. When using the LIFX app, you can tap into a wide array of customizable settings and presets created for you to curate your own lighting experience. From here you can set up timed schedules for turning on and off the light, different colors to set the mood, and even setting up cleaning cycles to engage the HEV (High Energy Visible) LED function. The effectiveness of the HEV cleaning function will depend on where you install the bulb - a high ceiling fixture, for example, will be less effective than an up close desk lamp, depending on what you are targeting to keep clean. I found the ease and convenience of the app to create these cleaning times around my and my family's schedules to be well worth it. The smart function alone is its own reward, given all those times in the past when I had to tell the kids to turn off the light to save electricity. However, now the light being on when no one is around makes sense since it would be performing a scheduled function of its own. The light turns on and off fairly quickly from voice commands to a nearby smart device - I didn't notice any unusually long pauses between command and function like with some other smart devices. I would have liked to be able to voice change the room's light color on command, however the app does allow for customizable scenes and schedules that generally accomplish the same results. From the easy functionality, customizability, and health focused cleaning cycles, the LIFX Clean smart bulb is a great addition to your home. Above all, this smart bulb is a smart investment. This light is controllable through its app and can be used in any fixture with a standard screw-in socket. Brightness for white shades and colors can be adjusted to suit needs and mood lighting can be set manually or use pre-programmed mood settings and animated effects ranging from solid colors to a rainbow of mixtures of colors. You can set a 24/7 schedule or multiple schedules to turn it on/off with any color schemes, and also to adjust color schemes. It's very nice and useful in that regard. It would be pretty cool to use on a front porch during Halloween, it even has a pre-programmed Halloween effect setting. When it comes to cleaning, the utility of the bulb depends on whether you have a fixture that enables the bulb to be pointed directly at the surface to be cleaned. (Unfortunately I don't.) The ideal fixture would be a portable desk type lamp with a bendable or adjustable arm so the bulb can be pointed directly at the surface you want to kill the bacteria off of. If you don't have that type of lamp and aren't going to buy one, the cleaning feature of the bulb may not be very useful for you. Even with the above caveat I still like this bulb because of the wide range of lighting effects and scheduling capability, and the fact that it can be used in any fixture, no special switch needed, just the app on your smart phone or tablet.

I've been using LIFX bulbs for almost 5 years now and I really like the functionality and ability to set schedules to automate when the lights will turn on and off. This one adds a new feature that my other lights don't have...Clean. It uses High Energy Visible (HEV) light to disinfect anything it is lighting up. From a setup perspective, this is one of the easiest smart devices to setup. After you download the app (I already had it installed since I already have about 20 lights), turn on the light and follow the directions in the app to add it to your home. It took me less than 5 minutes to get the new light added to the app. The app is very easy to use and you can set schedules, change colors, and set scenes from within the app. I setup a new schedule to turn this light on 30 minutes before dusk and fade off 15 minutes before I normally go to sleep. Very easy to setup multiple schedules. During the holidays we usually setup themed scenes to add a little fun to the season. Regarding the clean function, I really don't have any way to prove that it does or doesn't work. In theory, the light will kill germs on any surfaces that are within a few feet of the light when the clean function is used. Overall, I would recommend these LIFX lights since they are easy to setup, use, and schedule. You can also control the lights when you are not at home.

Smart bulbs have come so far, now it disinfects bacteria too. LIFX has been know for a while to develop. Quality light bulbs, so it wasn't difficult to trust this brand for something as plain as a smart bulb. True enough, connectivity is a breeze. Connectivity to my Google home is seamless. Responsiveness of the bulb is on point. The bigger question is does it really clean my place? To be honest, I don't know. It's something that I cannot see, even if I have been observing the behavior for a week now. I placed it by the kitchen / dining so I can have more protection there. But you know what, like I mentioned LIFX is a trusted brand and I don't think a product like this will be released with this claim if it doesn't. What it does is it gives me peace-of-mind that it helps clean the area it is in. I live in front of a very busy street so who knows what bacteria slides into my home. But knowing I have this helps me think I have better air than those who don't. Well, nowadays, when I come home, I bring my personal items close to the bulb for a good 90 seconds before I store them. At the end of the day, I get a high quality smart bulb. Best scenario is I have a cleaner home. I hope all my neighbors fill their homes with this too so we can have a safer living environment.

Can never be too clean nowadays! I placed this bulb in my bathroom just above my bathroom sink where my tooth brush is located and not too far to the side is my toilet. Studies have shown that this type of light can kill some bacteria and when my toothbrush and physical health is involved, I was all of the protection I can get. The light connects to the app and apple home or Alexa easily. I turn it on for an hour after going to bed and let it go to work. It will turn off as I have scheduled it to do. you can change the color temp of the normal light within the app so you can match any adjacent bulbs. It also has a whole range of colors which I probably won't use but you never know. Again, I am all in on any products that will help me clean/disinfect without me really having to do anything.

I had a very hard time connecting. The app would not pick up my internet. So I was unable to get the benefits of seeing the moods for the light. However after trying it the next day everything connected perfectly. I have access to multiple colors for the mood. I can easily use voice activation with Alexa or Google. I prefer Google only bc I have multiple devices with it. After having the app setup everything else connected easily. You can tell it does have a difference with the bulb vs regular led lights bc it's a small paper that looks slightly different.

I’ve been using LiFx for years and I finally can’t do it any more. I’m cutting my losses on the expensive bulbs and moving on to a more robust brand. These bulbs have a magnificent output and vibrant colors, but the network issues make them NOT WORTH IT. What good is the bulb if you loose connection to the network every other month. Ive re-paired them more times than I can remember and I never have a smooth experience. I’ve gone down the technical support route…Customer service is friendly but TERRIBLE, they make you diagnose, download data, trouble shoot…it works for a long time then stops. At the end of the day it’s a light bulb, you expect it to turn on and work, not with LiFx.

This light is great, it looks great, it's super easy to set up and use. Overall I couldn't be happier with it. The fact that it cleans is a huge plus especially with three dogs that go in and out of the house regularly.

When I installed this light and the associated android app from the Google Play store, I was delighted to see that it offered not just color selection, it also offered 'Themes' which picked a color matching said theme (tapping multiple times resulted in other colors in that theme being selected)-- and each color seemed to set a feel for the 'mood temperature' in the room. After I tinkered with the color selection, I proceeded to run a two hour 'cleaning'. I want to tell you 'the room feels better' (I mean the mood is better, almost like after filtering allergens in an air filter), however I do not have tools that can measure the true level of cleanliness.

I had high hopes for this light bulb coming from a clean freak! But the initial set up and compatibility with Alexa just completely ruined this bulb for me. I have NEVER had such an issue setting up a Wi-Fi lightbulb in my life. I am a Systems Engineer, so I would say I am "tech savy". With that, considering it took 45 minutes to set up this one lightbulb is absolutely ridiculous. When you set it up via the app, it basically forces you to use Apple HomeKit if on an iPhone which is incredibly annoying since I do not use that ecosystem. So the lightbulb would constantly fail on this step. Then I reinstalled the "Home" app from Apple, and it complained now that I'm on a 5GHZ network, no worries, I will switch to 2.4GHZ. I do that, then it finds the bulb, still asks me to scan the homekit QR code, then just spins for 15 minutes.... nothing. So I try again, then it asks me to connect to the device in the Wi-Fi settings, I do, then spins for 10 minutes, nothing. So I give up walk away, try again, and now it works. Absolutely ridiculous. So then I try to set it up with Alexa, it connects, but then Alexa says the device is always offline, even after removing it and adding it again. I have never had this issue with any other brand of Wi-Fi lightbulbs. It is 2021, it should NOT be this hard. Especially for a 70 dollar lightbulb, terrible. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the bulb itself is very nice. It goes up to 9k Lumens, has the cleaning mode which is very nice to sanitize the room. It also has a lot of RGB options as well and "moods" which is cool. If only the software was better and compatibility with Alexa, this would easily be 4-5 stars.

Works excellent. Will be sticking with Lifx because of their product quality.

Do not buy these lights. They easily disconnect from the LIFX app and Apple Home and have done so often. In addtion, it would not be such a big deal if they were easy ti connect to, but they are not. It takes about 10 minutes to connect each light because it constantly fails to detect and successfully connect to the light. Save yourself some time and buy different lights
