I previously had a Linksys AC1200 router (back when Cisco owned Linksys) it had to be rebooted more than it should have, now that Belkin owns Linksys the quality is back! This router has amazing coverage, I have a 3 bedroom home and I can connect to it with full strength anywhere in my home, and as a bonus in every square inch of my yard outside my home!! And the router itself has the Classic Blue look of the original Linksys router which is really cool to me (personal preference)

First you will notice the famous, retro design of the Linksys WRT1200AC router. Easily stackable case that feels very sturdy compared to other consumer grade routers on the market. Other stackable Linksys products are the WRT Switch or rumored WRT Storage Bay.
This is one powerful router with plenty of ports. Speed is what you need for demanding video and a highly connected household of devices. Connections to the router from phones, tablets and computers is virtually instantaneous thanks to a dual-core processor running at 1.3GHz and plenty of RAM. It features four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and one Gigabit WAN (Internet) port. The router also has one USB 3.0 port and a unique port that can work as either a USB 2.0 or an eSATA. eSATA is a very fast port that many external hard drives use. Again, think large files or video streaming when it comes to eSATA.
Wi-Fi aggregate throughput is 1200Mbps via dual streams over 5GHz and 2.4GHZ bands. This is a lot of bandwidth and should be more than adequate for most households. Our household has multiple gaming consoles, phones, tablets, notebooks and home office computers and never once was there an issue. It should be mentioned that phone type services like VOIP, Facetime and Skype worked flawlessly. Signal strength is strong throughout the main floor of our house and even successfully streamed Netflix video to our television in the finished basement.
Linksys has set the bar when it comes to router software and ease of setup. You can quickly have this router functioning in minutes. Need a guest network to keep your connected devices safe from visitor's? No problem. Linksys has you covered in a couple of clicks. The guest Wi-Fi is completely segmented from your home network.
The latest Linksys routers have something that I really love and that's a power rocker switch. Never again will you have to stumble around to find the power cable to power down your router. Not that I have experienced a time where I needed to with this router, however, one of the first things your Internet provider technical support asks you to do is power off and on your router. The rocker switch make is a breeze.
In summary, the router performs extremely well in a heavily connected home. Speed to connect and stream is top notch. Video is no problem. If you are upgrading from a router that's even a couple of years old, you should see a big bump in overall performance. There is nothing like the feel of broadband on a dual-core router running at 1.3GHz.

Another reliable product from a reliable company. I have been using Linksys wifi routers for about 16 years now (because they work that well). I used a netgear router back in the late 90's that lasted about 1 year before I had to start rebooting it everyday for it to do its job. After that I switched to Cisco (linksys) products, and have never had any issues!
This latest router, while not on the blazing edge of the very latest tech specs for the AC std ... It far exceeds my needs for the small apt that I now live in. The AC std is blazing fast, compared to the N of my last Cisco home router, and the signal strength is incredible (which the avg home user will love).
I am a network tech, so I got this model for the WRT features that it offers, and the programmable aspects of the device.
So far it has met the advertised standards and exceeded my expectations.

Outperforms a Cisco/Linksys E4200 Router

Used this to replace an E4200 wireless router, which in 2011 was a top rated wireless consumer router. Speed of the WRT1200 is 3 to 5 times the speed of the E4200 at various distances and locations in a 2 story home as measured by the app WiFi Sweetspot (this is before installing a second router as an access point on a different level of the home). The WRT1200 is a large unit compared to the E4200. I attached a pix comparing the size with an old WRT54G unit that I was using as an access point. The E4200 will now be used as an access point and the WRT1200 will be the main wireless router. Setup was a trial and error task as some features acted differently than on the E4200. For instance, on the E4200, I could disable the broadcasting of the SSID and still manually connect to the E4200 by specifying the SSID manually on the device. On the WRT1200, if I hid the SSID, I could not connect at all, even by specifying the specific SSID that was assigned to the WRT1200. In all fairness, I did setup the router manually rather than use the website to configure the router, so that method may make it easier to setup the router. Also, it seemed that the WRT1200 would not connect reliably with some devices at first (cell phones, mainly), but after several reboots and power cycles, the WRT1200 seemed to settle down. The indicator lights on the front panel are much easier to see at a distance compared to the WRT54G and compared to the lights on the E4200 (which are mounted on the back) are much easier to see altogether. It is a good looking unit compared to the E4200, but much larger. It seems to run much cooler than the E420, but it may be due to the numerous cooling vents in the body, both on top and underneath. I built a frame out of K'nex parts to hold it higher off the ground to allow more air underneath to circulate as well.

Hi, BBParadox,
Your feedback is of great value and we appreciate your taking the time to share your experience. The behavior that you're experiencing like frequent reboots and unable to connect to a hidden SSID is not what we expected. Allow us to make this right for you. It is recommended to reflash the firmware using a wired PC, followed by a factory reset and reinstallation. We would also suggest modifying the channel for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies to ensure maximum wireless performance. Please try channels 1, 6, 9 and 11 for the 2.4 GHz wireless network, and channels 36, 40, 44 and 48 for the 5 GHz. Should you need further assistance, get in touch with us at [email protected] along with your contact details and the link to this review for reference. We would be more than willing to help you out.
We look forward to assist you.

My old router died a few weeks ago. I looked up multiple reviews on this product before I purchased. So far, this router has been very reliable, fast, and easy to setup. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because I still don't have reception in the furthest room of my house. But, that's probably because of the building materials used in the house.

Currently running the EA7500 series from Linksys; when they offered to have me test this one in exchange for my honest review I accepted.
Right out of the box, you can tell it's going to be a solid router. The plastic is solid and packaging is great, the setup CD covers most installation configuration and it has a mounting template to print makes choosing a location that much easier.
I've run this as a standalone and found great speed but got a little lagging when we used several cell phones at once. Perhaps because it only has two antenna? And coverage was about average with noticeable drop at about 60 feet.
I then set up as a repeater... Using both bridge & repeater modes. It's not too happy doing that duty. It's a little glitchy and only wants to work on the 5ghz band, 2.4ghz drop off about 12 feet away.
Overall, a solid performance, easy instructions and great looking. I'd probably hold out for the 7500 series though. Poor instructions, but really one of the best I've ever seen.

This router is very highly rated for reliability and usability. It is not the fastest AC router out there, by no means... but its steady, cool, and reliable performance makes it an excellent choice. The coverage is very good. It NEVER drops connection. And it can easily power the five devices we have connected to it: a desktop computer, a tablet, a smartphone, a ROKU streamer, and a printer. The 2.4GH driver is best for most uses, because it gives superior coverage. But, the 5GH mode works best where speed is an issue (the ROKU streamer).
The physical unit is sturdy and stylish with its blue face and well-lighted display, but not very compact. Its "footprint" is almost a full square foot (something to consider if you have limited shelf space). The surface is always very cool to the touch. The two included antennas are adequate for our 2000 sq.ft. 2-story house. There is some drop-off on the opposite end of the house on the upper floor, but not significant enough to warrant buying powered high-gain antennas. But, if needed over a long distance, the connections are standard so the upgrade would be very easy. Note: the dual antennas produce a mostly flat horizontal signal, but they can be very easily aligned to distribute signal better to another floor.
Set-up and configuration, as with any router, is a pain and the included instructions are utterly inadequate. BUT, Linksys Customer Support is superb!! Their techie will guide you by telephone through all aspects and get your unit humming along. I recommend not even trying to do it yourself: just call and be happy.

Bought this one to replace a router that went south. Pervious routers have been a pain with my ISP. This one was a breeze. Easy to set up and good signal throughout the house. I especially like the network attached storage feature offered by the Linksys AC1200. Compared to my older NAS which required proprietary software the 500G drive attached to the router is quick and easy to access.

I was sent free of charge a Linksys RE6700 AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender to test and write a review. My home is a large two stories home that is 72 feet long. My router is located upstairs in my office and one end of the house. I like using the 5G frequency because of the additional speed. Unfortunately, the signal strength was not strong enough to use downstairs. I plugged the Linksys RE6700 downstairs and within a minute it has connected to my router and showed up in my iPhone and iPad with 5 bars! Which was 1 to 2 bars before. The signal strength on the Linksys RE6700 indicate that the signal strength incoming was a bit low, I tried it anyway at that location and it worked just perfectly. Now, the signal strength is 5 bars in every location of my home on both 2.4G and 5G. Even outside my home I get the 5G signal about 300 feet from my house. This device is simply amazing. If you have less then 5 bars of signal strength the Linksys RE6700 may just be the best solution out there in our techie world. It is so simple to install, just plug it in, that's it, the Linksys RE6700 does the rest. It is rock solid and works amazingly with both 2.4G and 5G. I have a Linksys and ASUS router and it work great with both.

This Linksys WiFi works perfectly and as hoped. I purchased it as a replacement for a very old Linksys Wireless G so it is a pleasure how fast it streams video. It was very easy to set up and instructions were clear. On sale, it was a good deal; otherwise, a bit pricey.
I only wish it was smaller because it takes up a lot of space on my desk.

This is my 3rd router and this install was the easiest one yet. I logged on using the defaults marked on the disk, changed back to what I was using before ( SSID and PW), and everything was back to normal. And I do think it is faster (no tests), and the range is better.

This router replaced my old Linksys router. I have been very happy with Linksys products and this didn't let me down. It was easy to set up and all my devises connected easily. I have a combination of both wireless and wired devices. This took care of all of them. It also allowed all my devises to have full internet speed from my cable modem, which didn't happen with my old router. Highly recommend this product.

I had a Linksys E1000 which was working fine, except it had the problem were it world not reset if the power went off even for a short period of time.
So I bought a battery backup. This Linksys product I did not buy for the speed increase right now, but for the future speed increases of my Internet service. It was also on sale. Setup was pretty easy. Another reason I bought it was for the USB external drive set up. I have a 32g USB stick installed and can access it anywhere with internet. The only thing I was disappointed in was you can not hookup a USB printer up to the USB port with out running a piece of software open on the computer using the printer (per Linksys phone call). They told me it was not designed for this. So I just had it set it up through one of the wired ports instead. But, I was trying to free up one of the 4 wired ports

Hi Ace500,
We understand how you feel and we also appreciate your direct feedback about the Linksys WRT1200AC. If you are referring to the Linksys VUSB feature, it is designed to connect your USB printer to your network. You need to run the software in order for your computers and other devices to print. By the way, we'd like to verify, did you plug in the printer to one of the router's Ethernet port?
You may respond to us with the case number provided by the Support Team, or your contact details so we can recommend a different setup. You can send it to [email protected] with the link to this review.

Great little router for $99. My old Netgear N750 just didn't have the throughput so upgrading to the Linksys AC1200 was a good choice.
Setup is very straightforward and explained fully via schematics (or included CD if more details were needed). I only encountered one glitch: Using my existing CAT5 cable from the previous router did not work. The AC1200 refused to see the cable modem or Internet at all. Not sure if it's a crossover cable or not but simply using the cable that comes with the AC1200 fixed the problem. Probably should've done that in the first place. Very nice is also the option to control the settings via smartphone which allows for remote troubleshooting if away from home. Great box, good speed and has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, each ones working very well.
