    Reliable router worth the money

This router was purchased for the distance connect factor and gets to every corner all the time. I have a typical sprawling Texas ranch home and a family with 11 PCs all wanting to connect from every corner. With the two bands I have allocated the 5ghz for the wireless N and the 2.5 for everyone's everything else. Cell phones, etc. It works great without a hitch. I am a low-maintenance kind of gal and love my equipment to be the same way. I have used it for months now and it is ALWAYS good. I make my living on the web and spend about 12-18 hours a day on it depending on the season and don't need to play with my equipment. It set up without any issues and is self explanatory in doing so. I used the supplied user names and passwords and only changed the settings as I explained. 5 ghz to N and A and the 2.5 to B and G. I turned off the guest network. You can easily set times for it to be off, pick a device and set parental controls, etc. VERY USER friendly. I am a Linksys fan. Years ago, after trying multiple brands and being disappointed I settled on Linksys as my favorite for their reliability. Basically, you get what you pay for and - neck in neck against Netgear products - it is simply a matter of preference. I have never been disappointed with a Linksys item yet. So, why 4 stars instead of 5? Price. You may get what you pay for but I expect paying double for a good router would be enough. Like total of $150? At over $200 I guess they took a generous tip.

Its been a long time since Linksys's WRT series routers that ruled the planet, now comes the new generation of WRT AC series. This router just plain old wont quit. You cant be a newbie to use it, does need some advanced knowledge if you really want to exploit it and make use of a rock solid router. I did segment out the WiFi so that high speed is prioritized to laptop and phone for me, the lower speeds for non demanding devices and the wired ports run everything from 2 Desktop computers, an VOIP OOMA, other cell phones, a surveillance camera and finally an Amazon Stick. The QOS on this item is great and no drops in service or connectivity. Suggestions out of the box as follows - please to the Firmware update, please use secure long passwords for WiFi, please plug into a powersource that is secure or battery protected. I have recommended 5 of these units and their quality, range of WiFi and stability makes it a great router to install for home use.

This thing blows ANY other router away by far! I purchased this to replace a netgear router in my house because the netgear was losing its signal and did not reach out side the house or in some of the other rooms. Then I bought this in all those problems one away. You can also put a USB hard drive and connected to it the Linsys and back up your files or share files to the other devices. The speed of this thing is TOP notch. You will not go wrong getting this! Setup is easy and the signal can reach down my street. I also installed this to a doctors office and it powers 7 pcs and 3 iPads plus 7 phones with no problems. See pictures

Blazing fast speed, incredible range, apps for network monitoring, remote access, media streaming, etc. make this the best router in its class. In my opinion there’s not even a close second. This router truly has it all! The 1.2GHz dual-core processor handles a large amount of bandwidth to enable streaming, gaming and Internet surfing on multiple devices simultaneously. I love the retro look as well. Installation was a breeze and the Linksys Customer Support staff is first rate, very friendly and helpful. I’m a Linksys customer for life.

When my ISP doubled our download speed, my old Linksys-G couldn't deliver the 60 Mbps downloads to the Wi-Fi connections. With the replacement Linksys - Smart Wi-Fi Dual-Band Wireless-AC Router, my Wi-Fi speeds have tripled.

I purchased the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router after trying four yes four different NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) on my ASUS Q550l laptop. I continualy would be unable to connect to the 5GH bands and then not be able to connect to the 2.4GH band leaving me with no internet connection and the Ethernet port would not recognize my Ethernet port on my ASUS laptop even though the modem would be recognized as would any other device connected to my Ethernet port on my ASUS laptop. This happened with all 4 that I tried. this was not a problem at all with the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router. It detected my Ethernet port and allowed me to set up the router by hardwire ( AKA Ethernet cable) unlike the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) which I had to install the router over Wi-Fi for installation which I do not recommend doing if your able to do this step by hardwiring your device to the router with a Ethernet cable. The speed of the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) does out perfourm the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router but it was unusable with my laptop. The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router has given me almost no problems. Twice this week I had a connection problem with the 5GH band but after a quick reconnect from the pc to the wireless 5GH band all was fixed. Now for me I have found that using the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router wirelessly has a faster data transfer speed over using an ether net cable and the same principal went for the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000). Iliked the interface of the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) router settings access page much better than the Linksys. also the NETGEAR gave you a desktop icon to shoot directly to the routers settings page(if connected to the internet at time of clicking on the desktop icon) which the Linksys does not and thus you must type in the address into your browser to access the settings of your router. The Linksys only has a dual band radio channel so you get one 2.4GH band and one 5GH band. On the NETGEAR you have three bands one 2.4GH band and two 5GH bands. I liked the idea of the three bands because you can pick and choose what devices use what bands. this is true for both but what I wanted all three bands for is this example. Dedicate one 2.4 band to my ROKU, Android tablet, SONY Blu-Ray player (hard wired with a Ethernet cord to one of the Ethernet ports on the router), OUYA (hard wired with a Ethernet cord to one of the Ethernet ports on the router) and cell phone. Then dedicate one 5GH band solely to my ASUS laptop and the second 5GH band solely to an Android streaming T.V. Box (either a Minix or DRACO). Now with the Linksys I only have two bands so I will have to use my laptop and my Android streaming T.V. box on the same 5GH band. I'm ok with that but the Linksys is much slower that the NETGEAR. All in all everything else is pretty much the same between both. For the extra $50.00 if it will connect to your device properly I would go with the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) over the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router. Best buy offers a 15 day return policy for customers and if you are an ELITE member you have a 30 day return policy. I tried four different NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) and either it would drop the one 5GH band and then state it was unaccessible and then proceed to do the same for the other two remaining bands with in a total of a 24 hour period or I woulden't be able to access the internet to even set up the router settings or access the internet. After the 4th try and a total of 5 hours of NETGEAR tec support along with tec support of 2 hour's with my ISP provider(Comcast) I could not get the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) to proberly stay functioning on my laptop. I even changed the channels on the bands wich gave me only temporary relief for a hour or less at times. With the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router the only things I don't like are the absence of a desktop icon to check all my router setting and the speed loss compared to the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000). Other wise the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router out shines in my case. If you can get it to work properly for you then I recommend the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000). But if problems arise like I have stated if you want try the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi WRT1900AC dual-band Wireless-AC router.

I had a linksys that this router replaced that worked great but had some range problems. When I saw this was being released with 4 antennas I figured it might be time to upgrade. I haven't been disappointed. It's very easy to set up, if light on a few options I wanted. The ability to use open source on this router is a nice option and will open up more flexible options for many users I'm sure. It runs ac which will be good for me in the future but for now I just have bonded n devices. It's fast, the range is incredible, and a feature I really like is that the antennas are removable if I want to put a couple of high gain antennas in the future. My space is big and multi level and is broken up into some odd shapes that the new router fills perfectly. I even get clear signal all the way to my car in the parking lot... Better than I expected. My only complaint, is that this router was pretty expensive. I'm sure the prices will come down over time though. One more thing. I love the throwback design.

I upgraded to the WRT1900AC from a 4th Generation Apple Time Capsule. The Time Capsule was running just fine, but with some improvements I want to make overall with our setup, I needed to get away from using the TC as the main router. I researched new routers for over a month, hitting all the review sites, and finally picked this up based on the reviews and our needs. It's amazing. The power, speed, range and ease of use is incredible. The customization and admin controls available are powerful and very easy to use if you know what you're looking at. Even though the TC was running pretty close to my max throughput with Comcast (100/20 speeds) the WRT1900AC even improved my overall speeds, I can now pull 125/25 just by installing this. And with most of our new devices being 802.1AC, connections are strong and we haven't had a disconnect yet. Overall I'm so glad I decided on the WRT1900AC, it's amazing...

I purchased this when my Asus RT-AC66R died after 6 months of use. The previous router I feel died from overheating - it got hot enough to melt a plastic bag onto itself. Living in a hot desert environment, I knew I wanted something that had better cooling, and while reading around found out that this router had a large opening on top for letting heat out, and has a fan in case it ever gets too hot (which has not turned on yet). Though this was the main initial purchase reason (well, that and the nostalgia for the WRT54G), I was more impressed with the instant increase in coverage. I can step about 300' from the router (which means stepping outside) and still pull 300mbps on an n connection. The setup was simple, though the UI is a little clunky compared to a non-graphical setup. Parental controls are simple to use, and the ability to adjust these settings from my phone on the fly is great. Overall, I'm very pleased with this router so far Next up: Hooking a NAS to it and seeing how well it handles that duty.

Pros: Great range and coverage. Fast. Cons: Size. Weight. Price. Fantastic router so far. I have a lot of devices, and it carries the load with no issue. FW needs to be refined and price is a big barrier for many. But if you can afford it and need the power, robustness, and range... well worth the buy.

We had been looking for a router that would get to all spots in our house. This one works perfectly! Set up was super easy! The step-by-step instructions were clear and simple to follow. I also like that it has a second "guest" line! So when people are over and want to use the WiFi you can have them log onto the separate line with a different password. Then if you want/need to change the guest password in the future you don't have to worry about changing all your saved passwords on whatever is hooked up to your primary line. The WiFi works great. It is fast and doesn't disconnect. It even reaches my entire yard! Totally recommended! Money well spent!!!

As wireless devices proliferated in my home which is fairly large, I found I needed to replace my Cisco Valet which had been a top pick at CNET. This is the newest dual band wireless router so it has the best of the new technology and it shows. This unit was easy to install and configure. It includes an app that allows you to visualize your home network environment with devices and speeds visible, a very handy tool. It allows for guests to easily access the network at dual speeds. I doubled the bars of my signal strength on my home computer using the lower speed, less bars on the 5Ghz band and there is internet access throughout the house now. I am quite pleased, if you don't mind paying a little more for the latest and greatest, this is an excellent choice for a router for your home.

Dramatic range, and therefore, speed around the house! I was skeptical about spending the money, but well worth it over trying to move it and all the devices that are wired to it to a more central and open location in the house, which wouldn't be easy because of limited wiring and having to cross open walkways. Tried using repeaters, but they seemed to fail frequently and required rebooting at least once or twice a week. Our family loves technology, so reliable wireless, multi-user, powerful connections are a must. School books are now on iPads, wireless TV in the bedrooms as well as the common rooms, tablet access in all bedrooms and around the house, gaming in the corners of the basement, all a must! The only drawback I could see is that it needs more space, it can't sit compactly upright next to the storage drives, cell phone extender, modem, and shared printer (which all work best connected directly to the router). The antennas need a bit of room to fully directionalize, but that's not a problem given how well it's worked to improve signal strength in our home. Btw, we have lots of wood and metal (solid wood doors, lots of oak trim, tin ceiling, 4 season pool room, etc) and NO open concept (every room is walled in), and the router's met that challenge, even with doors closed!

After installing this same router for a neighbor and seeing it's speed, range and ease of set-up, I needed to get one for myself. I replaced a very good Linksys dual band "N" router with this unit and I am surprised at the range and speed. I can be across the street from my home which sets on an acre lot and still get 2 of 3 signal bars on my iPad and 3 of 4 on my Windows Laptop. Inside my house, it is no different. Fantastic speed and range. The updated version of this unit with the same part number but has an extra letter in the part number has a slightly faster processor but everything else is the same.

Easily hooked this up to my weak router, provided by the cable company, to increase wireless coverage and accomadate large 2 story house. Now, buffering, weak signal strength, and slow internet is a thing of the past. Full bags everywhere. Even broadcasts strong signal throughout the yard. 2.4 and 5 dual band is useful to separate newer streaming devices from older 2.4 when streaming multiple HD devices simultaneously. There is no loss of speed on any device. You get what you pay for. Ideally, you should use 2 for a large house and just get the cable company to provide a modem without a router.

Replaced my WRT54G to improve home network performance. Fully satisfied with performance, build quality, ease of installation. Over the years of dependable use of the WRT54G, the number of network connected devices in my home has dramatically increased to over 20 continually on throughout our large 2-story home. With this new router, I have sought to future proof for coming years while improving range, speed and access for my connected devices. The installation was much simpler than any router I have installed and there is a noticeable improvement in performance, particularly eliminating dead zones. One simple measure of that is that my devices have continuous available high speed connectivity. Pairs well with my new cable modem and gigabit switch. Looking forward to exploring the web-based controls.

Linksys has made a solid device with this entry and it will withstand the test of time. I'll break my list into positives and negatives: Positives: - Accessibility and the menu. I hear a lot of people complaining about the lack of options in the menus. It has a nice layout and all of the options are front and center. - Speed. I can stream games over this network to my television with zero problems or hiccups. - Noise: quiet . . . maybe too quiet. I'll touch on that later. - Design: it has nice style. It doesn't stand out too much in my living room. - range: It covers a large apartment well. I can still access it in the garage, 3 stories down. (crazy) Negatives: - Is the fan in my device supposed to ever work? Seriously, it must be a hood ornament for me, it never spins. I'll probably exchange my device, a non spinning fan signals trouble. I won't remove a single star for this as it is probably just a defect with my device. Or maybe it has never needed to spin up because it doesn't run very hot. - Here's the one that makes it 4 stars instead of 5: 5ghz outages and unable to connect to router on any band at times. This requires a device reset. This issue has come back twice since I turned off automatic updates. (That is important if you are experiencing problems with your router) I had to do some digging to find that solution but it doesn't fix every connectivity issue. Overall, this is a solid buy. There are some good strides being made with the open source firmware. However, for now, it is safe to stick with Linksys' firmware.

This router has excellent coverage for two-story houses where signal strength is a must. Previously, I was using an older router that just wouldn't reach all corners of the home so I had to use a Wi-Fi extender. Wi-Fi extenders work, but they won't always supply the quickest transfer speeds between them and your existing router. Finally taking the time to upgrade to this new router proved worth the time and effort. The router was easy to setup; it took me all of 15 minutes to get everything up and running.
