Router - Fair Price and Great Performance!

The router went on sale and the specs and performance appeared to meet and slightly exceed my home and home office needs. I paired this with a new Arirs SB33 modem with xfinity gbps service. Setup was very easy and the wifi coverage was greatly improved! I have a ranch style home with finished walkout lower level. From end to end is about 90 feet and width 26 feet. I now have 120-250mbps speeds from the house ends (garage to master bedrm and home office on both levels) where before I had dropped signals and lucky to get 20-40mbps speeds if able to connect. The modem and router are centered in the house and if within 20 feet with one or two walls separating between my laptop or note-9, 300-500mbps downloads on speed test and uploads of 40-42mbps are typical. From router, speed test averages 920-960mbs down and 42-44mbps up. The ease of use, setup, speeds, and costs have exceeded my expectations. Debated on wifi 6 router but could not justify the increase in price and glad I made this purchase. Devices in home 4 phones, 3 HD TV, 4 laptops, 1 gaming PC, and several cameras. This router/wifi is tri-band and is mesh expandable using velop hardware. The router admin app is easy but does lack advanced features but for most tech savy homes this appears to be a great router and is rocking it in my environment. After almost one month I have zero complaints and highly recommend!

    Replaced xfinity supplied (arris) modem/router

xfinity in their infinite-wisdom COMPLETELY BROKE Port Forwarding. They moved it from your router to their server so, for instance, lets say you have a tech help you with port forwarding (like me), you need to give me your xfinity account logon/password to access port forward settings - that should be in your router. And once there, you can't add ports/IP combos, their system only adds to "recognized devices" and it sees none of mine (several PC on RDP). Put an ARRIS - SURFboard 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem SB6190 ($66) which upped me from 24x8 channels and got rid of the garbage arris router (their cable modems are good their routers suck). Then this Linksys - WOW!!! SO GLAD I DID THIS. Has a great port forwarding setup (single or multi-port entries), all worked perfectly 1st try on that. Had to scout around a little to find port forwarding, it was under Security and not Connections, but OK, that's fine. BUT THE SPEED ... our up/down speed is the same, as would be expected, but latency is WAY improved, sites flash, page to page flash, and the home/office network SCREAMS with speed. All TVs can access at the same time w/o bogging down our wireless, now we are only limited by internet speed which should be the bottleneck, not your own wifi. And Apple TV running a moving wireless from my iphone starts instantly instead of a 30 second or so delay, they just start playing. One note - if you turn your unit over to see/take a pic of the security sticker, don't forget to turn to back over, when upside down wireless coverage really lacks and the unit is not aesthetically pleasing, but when sitting properly it looks cool and works so much better - the Apple TV test went from ridiculous/what's wrong to WOW!!!!! Easy set up and use with the Linksys app. I have the Xfinity GB speed internet package and I bought the Linksys ac2200 tri band mesh router 5 months ago, but, because my house was built in the 1930s, I have plaster walls. So because of that, the signal doesn’t go through the plaster walls too good. The speed would go from 800Mbps at the router, down to 25Mps if, I walk down the hall and into the kitchen. The ac3000 came on sale for $179.00, so I decided to buy it to try with the ac2200. I bought the ac3000 and used it as the parent router and turned the ac2200 into a child node and placed it down the hall in the living room on other side of the house. The speed in my kitchen went from 25Mbs to 530Mbps!

    Amazing coverage and bandwidth

I got this router to take over for the combination modem/router from my cable company (Spectrum). Their router worked well enough but the coverage wasn't the best. To maximize its effective area, I had to operate 2 individual WiFi networks: one at 2.4 GHz and the other at 5 GHz. However, they also had to have different SSIDs which meant I was constantly, and manually, switching between which network I was on depending on where I was in my house. With the Linksys Max-Stream Tri-Band router, this is no longer a concern. I simply created one WiFi network and the router automatically connects me to the band with the strongest signal, regardless of where I am in the house. On top of this, the 4 antennas provide up to 3000 square feet of coverage so I no longer have any poor connections or WiFi dead spots anywhere. If you somehow need more coverage, the Linksys AC3000 is mesh compatible and can be used in conjunction with other Velop nodes. Initial setup could not be simpler when you use the free Linksys smartphone app. From the time turned on the router for the first time to when my network was up and running was just a couple minutes. It honestly took me longer to disable the WiFi on the cable company's modem than it did to setup the Linksys. The usefulness of the app doesn't end with initial setup though. It allows you to view and adjust your network from anywhere your phone has internet access, whether it be the cell network or even a different WiFi network. The app has a clean look while still being intuitive and easy for users of all computer proficiency levels. You can easily see how many devices are connected, enable guest access with a single tap, enable parental controls on individual devices, and even prioritize bandwidth to up to 3 separate devices. The ability to control every aspect of your network no matter where you are is a more of a benefit than you can probably imagine. Speaking of bandwidth, the (up to) 3 Gbps far exceeds what my cable company's modem can deliver. But this does mean that you won't experience any network slowdowns when you have a bunch of different devices all competing for access. I can download a game on my laptop, stream TV at 4K, and surf the web on my smartphone simultaneously without any hesitation or buffering on any of them. I know this because it was one of the first things I tried after my initial setup. Mainly, I just wanted to see if I could overwhelm the router with a bunch of high bandwidth demands. Well, this is one of those few occasions where I can happily report that I failed at something. So far, this router has easily handled everything I have asked of it and has not given me a lick of trouble since I set it up. I am very pleased with it and I think you will be too.

With a 2,000 square feet brick ranch and countless electronics we needed a router that could keep up. So far this router has done its job. With about 2 acres of land it’ll stay connected to my phone so I can listen to music while out in the yard. With our old router we’d have an issue of electronics dropping WiFi but haven’t had that problem since purchasing this unit.

So I’ll start this review off by saying I have Verizon fios gigabit service, many reviews for routers never state what ISP they are using! When I switched to Verizon and the gigabit service, at the time they would claim how great gigabit service was with lots of devices (I have at least 20 to 30 devices on my network) it just never lived up to their claims at least with their router. This router has changed all that for me! Right out of the box this was probably one of the easiest routers I’ve installed, a lot of that is because of the app. The Linksys app walks you thru the whole process and is basically fool proof. Once you have the router and app up and running, it allows you to see and control what’s on your network, parental controls, give priority status to certain devices, reboot the router right from the app and a host of other things. Things you used to have to do by going to 192.168.1.1 and logging in as administrator thru the backdoor! My router is on the first floor and coverage on the third has made me wanna pull my hair out with the Verizon router. With the Linksys Max-Stream I finally feel like I’m getting the gigabit service I pay for. And with it being Mesh, I can add Nodes as I desire for more coverage. In a nutshell, I couldn’t be happier as my internet speeds are no longer moving at a snails pace on my third floor!

Great addition to my Velop WiFi Mesh system

The Linksys Max-Stream MR9000 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 5 router is a mean looking device with the 4 antenna and all black profile, although it’s not as mean looking as some of linksys’s other offerings, but I found it to be pleasing to the eye and not over the top with the amount of antenna that it has. I currently have the Linksys Velop Mesh WiFi system in my home and the draw back of that is if you need Ethernet ports for devices that either don’t have WiFi or you want the best speed, then you only have two options per node. This new MR9000 device has 5 Ethernet ports on the back and it can function as another node for your Velop system. Perfect for my entertainment system that I need to hook up my TiVo, PS4, and my older Blu-Ray player. I even have a few Ethernet ports left for future devices and I am excited about that. So far I have not noticed any lag or slow downs due to my networking system and my speed tests are running slightly above my advertised internet speed from my cable company. Transferring large files have always been fast using the WiFi mesh system and adding this to the mix did not negatively affect that at all. Signal strength is still great as well and I have no dead zones in my 2400 sq ft house and Linksys rates this alone to cover a 3000 sq ft house. I do have a large yard and I have my system set up to provide coverage out there as well and my signal just starts to drop off a bit at the very edges of my property. It works perfectly for what I want it to do and I don’t think you will have any issues with coverage or speed at all with this router. I really do like the fact that you can start off with the MR9000 and add a Velop node at a later date to provide even better coverage. Using the Linksys app to add this as another node was very simple and straight forward. The app is intuitive and well designed, and has many features. You are able to set up parental controls if you have little ones, device prioritization, and easily set up a guest WiFi that you can launch with a simple toggle or Alexa to launch it as well. There is also some useful tools such at a quick way to share your WiFi password with someone via email or text message, and if you find that you are having some interference issues with other devices, there is a channel finder that can scan your environment and utilize the best channels for your environment.

replaced an older Linksys router with a newer model. The older version was easier to hook up than the newer one. Linksys seem like they have been good from what I've seen and told. The only down fall is I wish routers would last more than 2 years. The new Linksys works great.

Linksys Continues to Up the Ante

Linksys has introduced their next iteration of their "Max Stream" router, an upgrade from the previously successful MR8300. The package comes with the Linksys MR9000 Max-Stream router, AC power adapter, CAT5 jumper cable, and Quick Start guide. DISCLAIMER: I already have the Linksys VELOP Tri-band 3-tower system. I replaced the main VELOP tower with this Max-Stream router, then factory-reset the VELOP towers, and started from scratch to add all 4 total nodes. I made this Max-Stream router the main wired router on my AT&T U-Verse Fiber network. PROS: ----------- * Nice sleek, black chassis. If looks matter to you, it looks cool. * Using the Linksys app, setup was a breeze. Adding additional nodes process was easy but did take a few minutes per node. I started with the Max-Stream router and continued with the additional 3 VELOP nodes with no issues. * This is an upgrade from the previous MR8300 Max-Stream - the main difference between the 2 are the improved throughput overall. The 8300 was able to handle combined speeds of up to 2.2Gbps. This NEW MR9000 has a combined speed of 3.0Gpbs throughput. * The tri-band concept combines one 2.4 GHz frequency band and two 5 GHz frequency bands. This helps with DL/UL throughput at higher speeds. The 2.4 GHz is still there for distance purposes since a 2.4GHz wave will penetrate through barriers better than 5 GHz. * Very good range compared to most other extender-type systems - though at long distances, the 2.4GHz will be used and speeds will suffer a bit. This is normal. * If using with VELOP nodes, a new SSID can be created which can cover your whole house. This saves the user time and keeps devices from pinging from one SSID to another in those gray areas. * It can be mounted if necessary. * The big rubber feet on the bottom keep it in place nicely. * WPS feature included, which is pretty standard. * There are multi-colored lights on each of the 4 ports on the back to indicate connection/speed. * A feature in the app does try and find the best channels to use for each of the 2.4/5.0 GHz channels based on current interference patterns around the area. Many times, homes in the same area (or apartments/condos) use a default or common channel... too many of those in close proximity to each other can create interference and hinder speed. The Linksys app will try and hunt a "less-hindered" channel that will optimize your internet speed. CONS: ----------- * Under Parent Controls (in the Linksys app), the user is unable to block all "inappropriate" websites based on website metadata. Instead, you have to enter specific website addresses one-by-one. This may still do the trick ultimately, but entering each individual website could be a bit tedious. * I don't see a web GUI interface available. The only way to talk to your network is via Android/AppStore apps. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------------------------------- * AC plug uses a basic-sized sideways "brick" that may take up plug space next to itself on the power strip. * It would be really great to have a very simple way to plug in an external HDD or high-capacity thumb drive in the 3.0 port in the back of this unit which would create a network storage point. Currently, the only thing I can see it do is charge a device (likely at 1A). It does charge, but I'm unable to see any other use for it right now. Perhaps a firmware update will change that in the future. * There is an ON/OFF switch on the back so the unit doesn't have to be unplugged to power on and off. Sometimes getting a cord unplugged and plugged back in could be difficult to reach if placed/mounted in certain areas. See picture of rear ports included with this review. CONCLUSION: =================== Performance and adaptability to the current VELOP system are great reasons to get this broadband router with the MESH feature and 3Gb/s total throughput. As discussed, that's an upgrade of 800Mb/s over the previous model, the MP8300. I don't see any other reason to upgrade other than to get the better throughput. If you don't need the faster rate, you can stick with the previous model; however, future-proof your home network and get the upgrade if needed. The simple interface also makes this system worth getting - it's identical to the VELOP system/process which was easy to deal with. Overall, it's a nice product and a good addition to the VELOP family. The 3Gb/s allowable speed is great too as we continue to enter deeper into the digital age. Nice work... but throw in a few more hardware and software features to really make the product wow us more.

This router is great if you want to do absolutely nothing on advanced features of wireless networking. It's management system was lacking. And it forced you to use and App to set it up! No wire into the back of it allowed you to bypass the captive portal of requesting a phone for setup.

I have used several models of Linksys routers over the years. The AC3000 is by far the smallest, but still provides strong performance. Pros: - Perfect for apartments or small homes. It covers up to 3000 square feet. I had no issues with signal strength in my 2300 square foot home. - 4 extra ports to hardwire additional devices. - Easy to set up - Fast speeds, rated at a max of 3 Gbps. Speed tests had me maxing out the download and upload speed offered by my ISP. - Uses MU-MIMO tech which allows for multiple devices to use data simultaneously instead of taking turns. Great for large families! Cons: - I'm still not a fan of using apps to set-up routers, but that seems to be the way things are going with most routers these days. At least the process is easy and allows you to tweak settings. But I like to minimize the amount of apps I have on my phone. The AC3000 is a terrific buy. Nice job, Linksys.

I just got a new Linksys MR9000 AC3000 router to use on my home network. Mine isn’t a typical home network as I’ve got quite a few devices attached. It consists of 5 Android phones, 4 tablets, 6 laptops, 1 desktop computer, 2 printers, 2 Android TV boxes, 1 VOIP device, 1 Chromecast, 2 Roku, 1 Google Home, 1 NAS Storage device and 2 TPLink electrical boxes for a total of 28 devices using my home network. This is a big network and it could take a while to manually configure all of the devices to work together smoothly. Thankfully I already had everything configured with DHCP so I didn’t have to touch any of my devices unless I wanted to change which band they were connecting to on the router. My biggest concern was not seeing buffering on my Android TVs. This router was a breeze to set up and make it all work smoothly. I started by downloading the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app to my Android phone. I created a Linksys profile and let it find the new router I was installing. I entered the password for the device, made a few changes to the IP address ranges and SSIDs to match my existing network. I created DHCP reservations for my Android TV boxes, printers, and NAS Storage. I then put the router into place and had it running live. Everything was operating fairly well, but I did see occasional issues with buffering on the TVs. I then went back into the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app and went to the device prioritization option and selected the 2 Android TV Boxes. Problem solved. It’s a very nice option to be able to set a higher priority on up to 3 devices so you can ensure that the devices that need the best internet response, get it. With most other routers, you either can’t do this, or it’s a complicated process. This is as simple as I’ve seen it. The Linksys MR9000 router has a quad-core processor, has tri-band capabilities with MU-MIMO, and allows for up to 3000 Mbps. It supports 25+ devices with a coverage area of up to 3000 sq ft. It is easily expandable with Velop Mesh WiFi, but I didn’t need those capabilities because the coverage area of the router fulfilled all of my needs. The device supports a Guest network, allowing your friends to utilize your Internet but preventing them from being able to see any of your devices. The only CON for the router in my environment is that it does not support hardware-based VPN. It does support IPSec, PPTP, and L2TP passthrough so you can still do VPN on devices that need it. I can easily recommend this router as it easily handles my complex network and is so easy to setup.

Great router, with an easy setup. What I liked most about it is the ease of the setup. Other routers are getting so complicated to setup these days, not this one. You can either set it up via a browser as any normal one, or you could use the Linksys app (android or apple). I used the browser one and it was fast and easy, plugged in my fiber modem and it automatically detected my internet connection. However, I did install the app to monitor the router/network, which you can do and its great so you can keep an eye on whats happening on your network, change settings on the fly, great solution so you don't have to be next to a browser all the time! Also, although the router has great coverage, if you live in a large home, or you have dead spots, you can easily add velop nodes from linksys and add them to this router to extend your coverage! PSA, always keep your router's firmware up to date, it has a function to enable automatic updates and you should make it is enabled, security is important these days!

I have to say this has been a great test for me. I am really happy about the way the Linksys WIFI Router has performed. I posted some speed test photos on here to show you the difference from my WIFI router that came with my service to the new Linksys MR9000. What an improvement it has made. Not just on the WIFI speed but on the direct line in has increased to. My old WIFI could only handle 10 to 15 items on it the MR9000 can handle 25 or more that's what it says. On my old WIFI i had 14 devices on it and was always getting something kicked off of it. I have the same number on the MR9000 and haven't had 1 issue with a disconnect from the internet. I have a Ring door bell and have saw that connect so much fast then it has ever done. I use to get a notification on my phone and when i would go look they were gone. Now i see them at my door. This was very easy to set up did it all from my phone. Just download the app and it will walk you step by step on how to do it. MR9000 is small so that is nice it wont stick out. 4 antennas to direct the signals witch is nice. It will cover up to 3000sqft that's more then enough for what i need. I stay connected even outside mowing the lawn. The app is very nice clean gives you an update if you are offline. Let's you see who or what is online you can prioritize devices parental control set up guest access. There is a lot to do with the app. So far very happy with it and i think i will stay that way. There is also 24/7 support if you need it.

Pretty Good AC Router but AX is the Way To Go

The Linksys Max-Stream MR9000 is a pretty good router for homes with less than 25 wifi devices. Setup was a breeze with the Linksys smartphone app. There were no setup instructions included, except to say to use the app to set it up. If you don't have a smartphone, you probably don't need this router anyway, so that shouldn't be an issue. I installed this router and added three Linksys Velop mesh router nodes to give even coverage throughout the home. I am now able to get max speeds in the basement where I wasn't able to before. Placement of this router is very important, so make sure to put it in a centrally located location that is unobstructed, like on top of a bookshelf or desk. The power cord is not very long, which may make that difficult to accomplish without an extension cord. The Linksys app allows you to see what devices are connected to the wifi and allows you to prioritize up to three devices for those selected to get first priority. The app also allows you to do speed tests, has parental controls and guest access. Overall I'm happy with the ease of setup, performance and app of the Max Stream MR9000. I gave it four stars instead of five because it is using AC wifi instead of AX.

The Linksys AC3000 Tri-band mesh wifi 5 router is great for not just the average consumer, but one who requires more from their device as well. This includes gamers, families with many connected devices, or simply people who would like control over their wifi system. The router can be called a wifi system because the new mesh router, combined with other linksys products and nodes, is expandable. This is convenient for large spaces or high signal traffic areas which may need a little boost to gain a good connection to the source router. The expansion system is also smart and useful for years to come as our wifi needs expand as well. Setup is pretty simple, granted you have access to a smartphone/tablet you can install the Linksys app on. OUT with the old days of reading through set-up manuals and IN with the guided quick start process that helps anyone with even limited knowledge of networks get their router going with ease! Through the app you are able to monitor connected devices, set up temporary guest wifi for people visiting, enforce parental controls, and even prioritize certain devices you don't want to lose speed on when sharing your internet. This also allows you to access and monitor your network while away from home. The connection speed is fast and reliable with the 4 antennas and the unit has 4 Ethernet cables as well for those who still like to hardwire a few devices. Overall the Linksys Mesh Router is a great device that is easy to use. It will be useful for many years to come with the expandable options and has the reliability of a Linksys product.
