Does this provide adequate security? For this product, my answer is yes. Could it stand some improvements? I answer that with a bigger Yes!
Pros
Image Quality: For a camera based solution, the 2k video quality is great. I don’t like using the regular 720 (regular HD) because the graininess is more than I would like to see. I’m willing sacrifice space on the microsd card for picture/video quality that I can live with. Night vision is okay, but better aided by a light source.
Field of View: I had the camera facing the other side of the living room and was able to capture myself in the shot. This is definitely an added benefit for those who value capturing as much as possible.
Options: There seems to be decent amount of choices available to customize your setup. Along with the ability to select the image quality, users are able to adjust motion detection, light, and audio recording.
2 Way Speaking: Being able to talk and communicate through the camera is useful especially needing to communicate with someone outside or in a different room.
Memory Card: The included memory card is of a sufficient size although I foresee desiring storage larger than 32 GB.
Free Service: There’s no additional out-of-pocket expense incurred by the user because everything is locally available.
Apartment Friendly: Renters and leasers are very restricted in security options, and Lorex has designed portable/versatile system that accommodates our needs.
Light/Alarm Feature: The light is very bright and the alarm is loud which is essential for deterring unwanted guests.
Cons
App implementation is disappointing and holds back this product from reaching its full potential.
Live Feed: Gaining access to the live feed through the app is slow (about 20+ seconds). A more instantaneous view would be more acceptable.
AI Assistant: I’ve made multiple attempts to connect the system to Google Assistant for my Nest Hub, but it was to no avail.
Overall, I liked this system, but it should be paired with an existing system that you have if possible for extra security.

High Quality Product and App

the Lorex has really grown on me. I initially struggled to get it properly set-up. Could be user error- but I'm really comfortable with technology and if it's challenging for me, there's a good chance the average user might become frustrated. (Note that there have been App updates since I first installed my system-I think they have improved ease of installation AND use).
The cameras include a microphone AND speaker so that you can - very cool. They are able to be installed outside. Keep in mind they are powered by removable, rechargeable (with micro-usb-nice!) proprietary batteries. So you'll want to put them in an accessible location. Mine seem to last approx 90 days. The image quality is app-set to either SD or HD. It's quite good. I love that you can go to the app real-time or retroactively and see activity events on a timeline.
As I mentioned, each camera has a built-in microphone and speaker. I found the recording quality acceptable and the play of the speaker ok as well.
The cameras are wireless (truly) and there is a proprietary hub that needs to be connected to ethernet. No big deal. Seems to be as stable as your overall network connection.
The last detail I really like is that the system allows geofencing and will notify you when you enter and leave the zone you designate. That means you can STOP recording when you get near home for your and your guests' privacy.
I like this system and I like how the app keeps improving.

Great System, Know Your Needs

This is not my 1st rodeo with Lorex, but my 4th Lorex system that I have either helped purchase and install or just help purchase. The first was an HD Analog System (helped purchase and installed), then a PoE HD System (helped purchase and install), and then a Wire-Free HD system (purchase only). This is the first system that I purchased and installed for myself.
No Subscription Necessary
This was a must for my needs and one of the reasons I always recommend Lorex, especially if you want a wireless or a wire-free (battery operated) system. Lorex is one of only two high quality systems that I know of that don’t require a subscription or hide features behind a paywall. They are also our northern friends...go Canucks!
Battery Charging
Initial charge took about 5 hours, so factor that in when you are planning your install. The charger is rated at 5V/2A and the batteries are 3.6V/6250mAh/22.5Wh and are limited to charging at 4.2V. The base station will use one of the chargers and cable...fyi for camera recharging.
I cannot find anywhere in the included material how long to expect the charging time to take nor how long the battery charge should last; the product material only states what settings will cause more battery drain. Obviously the settings you choose and how much traffic there is will determine some of this, but there is no average expected time...2 months, 6 months, 12 months?
Storage
My system has been active for 101 hours at the time of writing and the battery level is 93%, storage level is at 300 MB used out of 29.72 GB formatted. Note: I have only installed 1 camera at this time to test and get a feel for what to expect on motion settings, field of view, etcetera,. before determining the placement of the second camera and final location of this first one. I don’t see the need for a larger MicroSD card (32GB included!) for two cameras. If more cameras are needed (see Product Support below) then it may be prudent to add storage. But that would just be for how long you want to keep footage. If you delete it monthly which is easy to do, then you shouldn't have any worries.
Event Log
The Timeline feature is great for a wireless/wire-free system. That is something typically reserved for wired systems with continuous recording. This is a hybrid of that since there isn’t continuous recording and just jumps to the flagged times motion was recorded. Unfortunately it always starts at the first record of the day each time you open the Timeline, but it isn’t hard to jump to the time frame you want.
Picture Quality
The day time picture quality is really good. There are three camera mode settings 720p, 1080p, and 1440p(2K). 720p to 1440p is a big jump in quality, 1080p to 1440p is negligible in snapshot, but video is a little crisper still. I guess given the area you are monitoring this could be different and the higher resolution could be more noticeable. 720p definitely looks like 720p. The brightness of the image does not change with either of the three resolutions and given that the 1440p resolution uses HEVC to compress, it doesn’t use much space. 1080p compresses to H.264. Note Windows 10 does not by default have a codec for HEVC (it is a $1), but VLC Player can watch it, but I have heard sometimes there are issues, so I paid the $1. No issues when watching on a mobile device.
Night-Time Color is where things get a complicated and I’ll come right out with it, if you don’t have an external light source near your camera, then I wouldn’t bother with Night Time Color, just keep Night Vision on. I am in a subdivision, but rural setting, with 45+ft between each home and most have a only a front porch light on and a front yard pole light, so not a lot of ambient lighting in the area. Even with the Built-in LED light activating when motion is detected, its just not strong enough to give a good color picture. The deterrent setting is really all that it is useful for and no discredit to Lorex here, this is a battery operated system. Any high lumen light would drain the battery very quickly.
My current camera placement is the corner of the garage door opening with a dual directional LED Security light over my garage, so with it on, the Night Color is excellent, however, the viewing distance of the camera is decreased. The detection is still active further out than the viewing distance, but the object/person will not be clearly seen until they come closer to the camera. Night Vision picks up way more detail in the total area; it's just in grayscale.
So, while the box does say Color Night Vision, just know there is an imaginary asterisk that should state, best results achieved when used with a primary light source. I feel like there was something in the product manual about this.
Person/Motion Detection
Honestly I am still learning its quirks. Person Only works just fine and you can tweak the sensitivity. I am struggling when it is supposed to detect All Motion...especially/mostly with vehicles and I feel it has to do with a combination of the MotionZone settings, which is the ability to select only a certain area that will trigger motion recording. I think there might be a bug with the MotionZone, as it works as it should when in Person Only, but not in All Motion, as it continually sends notifications for zones I have blocked out. It confused me so much I thought I had it backwards as what was zoned for recording and not recording.
My camera placement might help in this as it is just at the minimum height level, but I didn’t want to commit to fixing it to the side of the house until I tested it a bit more...glad I did.
Lorex Home App
Since this is the only way to interact with the system, which is new for me being used to installing wired systems, there are a few things to note.
1) Sometimes it can be very slow to open a motion notification and launch the recording, but the average is around 10 seconds.
2) If there are multiple notifications over a short time period sometimes it will open an older unviewed notification than what was selected and sometimes going into Live View stream just opens a recent notification that was unviewed.
3) Needing to login each time is pointless on a mobile device. I have Fingerprint set to default login which definitely speeds up the process, but if I need/want to get into the app quickly on my personal device that already has a security option setup, then I shouldn’t need to login each time to the app; even if my personal device is unsecure.
4) Privacy Mode/Notifications...when you want to walk outside your property and don’t want to be blasted with notifications you have two options...turn off notifications or turn on privacy mode. Privacy Mode shuts down the entire system until you turn it back on, so don’t forget! A snooze feature would be great with personalized timer function. Privacy function is better as it won’t even record so it will save battery on the cameras; notifications off will still leave you with 135 unviewed notifications and use battery more than normal.
Product Support
Currently there isn’t any! And I get that currently this product is not technically launched as I am being asked to review this product before official launch, but I did have some questions and I reached out to Lorex Support via Web Chat. First this product is nowhere to be found on their webpage, even though Best Buy has a product page, so I started a Web Chat. They knew nothing about this system, thankfully the help desk inquired a little further up the chain and was told this is a Best Buy Exclusive for a few months and is only being sold there. I can understand the exclusivity, but not having product support yet is a little crazy.
Lorex has a lot of products, which is both good and bad. Good there are a lot of options to meet your needs. Bad, they are not all interchangeable or compatible, so trying to find that out is pretty hard.
My main questions for the Web Chat was to find out if these cameras 1) will work with their Solar Panels? 2) Is the Lorex Home Hub to be compatible with their new line of entry and motion sensors that are compatible with the Lorex Home Center? 3) How many cameras does the Lorex Home Hub support? Because they have not been prepped on this product, my questions could not be answered.
Verdict
Yes, for quality of cameras, images, great 2 way audio, customization in app and utilization of camera outdoor and indoor, which I feel are what most people would be after. On the fence, because of the MotionZone and ALL tracking issue for my needs. The issues I have with the app are not a deal breaker, but I will have to mess with the camera location a bit more to see if that changes how the system reacts to my preferred motion settings.

The Lorex 2K security system was absolutely easy to set up! The brackets to hang them are great. It's a wire-free system so no worries about having to keep it connected only to charge the battery. I charged the batteries as soon as I opened the box and so far it's been a week and no need for a charge yet. What's so wonderful about Lorex is the NO SUBSCRIPTION!! This alone saves me $120 a year that I was paying with the previous brand of security system I had. Everything works like a charm and I'm notified every time with a picture unless I turn it off for privacy. The base to the system holds the memory card for videos to be stored!! The app works great and runs smoothly along with the system. Night vision also worked well for our house on the system so overall this has been the best security system I have owned! I recommend this product and brand!!

Great Wireless Security Camera System!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This is my first experience with a Lorex security camera system as well as my first experience with a completely wireless system. I was skeptical about having battery-operated cameras and concerned about how long they would last between charges. With the Lorex 2K QHD Wire-Free Security system and both cameras set at 1080p with motion detection and person detection both on the default medium setting and sound turned on I only lose about 5% of battery charge in 24hrs with an average of four detections for each camera in the 24hr time period. I am impressed with the battery life. It exceeded my expectations by a very big margin. The setup of the system was a bit frustrating especially getting the cameras connected to the hub. The first camera I tried to connect just kept timing out and not only that the instructions are not nearly detailed enough regarding the button pushing to get the camera in pairing mode. They tell you where to find the button but they do not say whether to hold the button down or just click and release. I finally removed the battery from the first one and had immediate success pairing the second camera which I quickly took out and mounted to the base I had already screwed into it’s location and it worked with no problem. Then with the second camera, I reset it and got it to pair after several more attempts. I then proceeded to take camera #2 and mount it. Once mounted they are able to pivot any direction since they are mounted to a ball joint. They mount facing upward from the mounting position however there is a setting that allows you to flip the cameras 180 degrees if you need to. I have been able to view each camera with my phone at work and get notifications every time a person is detected on my phone as well as my connected smartwatch both Android and top name brand in the industry that starts with S. I can take pictures from anywhere with my phone speak through the camera to someone like at the front door. Record video on demand from anywhere with the push of a button on my phone. Below each camera view on your phone when you have one open for viewing there is a suite of buttons that lets you control the camera from anywhere that you have an internet connection. It is very comprehensive giving you complete control of the cameras and even has a very loud siren you can turn on to scare intruders off. The volume of the siren the resolution of the camera the sound and everything else can be adjusted on the fly with your phone. The setting and the app, in general, are very comprehensive and very well thought out and a complete package that it appears they took the time to get right before release. The cameras which I have set to 1080p because I am running them on the batteries produce clear colorful pictures and video and have a nice wide viewing angle. I have found that if you have an outside light source that it is best to turn the night vision off for the camera near the light source. We have a big light high up on a pole in one part of our yard and with night vision off it almost looks as good as daylight with that light source which is up high and point down toward the ground and about 40ft from the camera and higher in the air. I would suggest a light source in that configuration or pointing away in the same direction as the camera. The night vision is in black and white and is acceptable and works but the cameras pick up light very well so you could definitely use a motion-activated light or dusk to dawn light near your camera to always have a view in color that looks nearly as good as daylight. They do have built-in lights but they seem to be just to let someone know they are being watched and can be set to turn on when a person is detected or other motion. The person detection and motion detection have sliding scales and are set to the middle by default and that is where I left them set which seems to be good. I love that they include a Western Digital Micro SD card and that there are no monthly fees charged for using the cameras or for storage. The app actually created three folders on my phone in the gallery called snapshot, thumb and video. I love that because that means all of my pictures and videos are getting automatically backed up to google photos. I am very impressed with this system. The batteries last a long time and you can check the camera battery level with your phone while you have a camera open in each individual camera's settings. They only come on when they see movement and every aspect of the camera's features can be fine-tuned to your liking from anywhere with the app on your phone. I was a bit skeptical about them being completely wireless and running on battery but it makes them so much easier to install and it actually does not appear to be much of an issue they seem to go a long time between charges. If you are looking for an easy to install security camera system that you do not have to run wires for the Lorex brand would be a great choice. This Lorex 2K QHD Wire-Free Security System is top-notch and very well done from hardware to the app software. Other than the initial difficulty I had pairing one of the cameras everything else has been great. I am thinking about adding one or two more already. If you move around a lot these are also easy to take down and bring them with you to set up wherever you may be. That’s a great feature! I would not hesitate to buy this Lorex system again!

The main draw for me was the built-in video storage device which means no monthly fees or hidden paywalls. They provide a 32 GB card that is already pre-installed. Along with two cameras that come set to 1080p but can go up to 2560x1440p which is a nice, sweet spot between 1080p and 4k. The cameras are lightweight and compact with an IP65 rating which isn’t super great but not terrible either. It also has some LEDs on the front to light up an area which works well if you so wish. It can be set so you turn them on manually or can turn on when motion is detected. Overall instructions were limited which would normally be fine. But since I had a lot of issues some more clarification to make sure I had everything as ideal as possible would have been nice. This camera is really made for either your garage or inside your home. And not for outside use even though they say it is. As all the issues I was having outside do not apply when setup inside. This review was from using it as an outdoor camera. So take it with a grain of salt. Because I don’t feel like rewriting it for indoor use.
SETUP 7/10:
Is rather straight forward as everything you need comes in the box which includes two cameras, two batteries, two chargers, mounting stickers, mounting brackets, and screws. You need to charge both batteries first which takes some time. Once they are both fully charged you install them into each camera and then you plug in the wireless Hub. This wireless hub can either be wired or wireless. I tried both and they both worked well. Obviously, the wired version was a bit faster. But it still takes a while to connect to each camera. After the wireless hub is plugged in you need to download the application which will walk you through the rest of the setup process which includes pairing both cameras to the hub. I had some issues with this working, and it took longer than I wanted it too. I even followed the instructions to the T but eventually I got there. At that point you decide where you want to put them. They have recommendations for the best settings depending if you are putting it on the wall or on a shelf. I chose the wall for both of mine. The mounts come in three pieces (mounting plate, the mount, and the camera). It has a sticker that lines everything up perfectly for you so you can just put that on the wall, predrill your holes, mount it, and bam you are done. Which also makes this super easy to steal.
APPLICATION 7/10:
The Lorex Home App is not my favorite. It’s not bad but I wouldn’t classify it as good either. I think my biggest issue is that it always starts off where I last closed it which means I’m constantly backing out of menus to try and get to the one I want. Again probably more of a me thing. But other apps that I’ve used for security work smoother. On the bottom row you have Devices, Events, and Settings. For the Devices tab it will only show one camera at a time and then you need to swipe to go to the other camera. There is easily room to have both on top of each other which I would have preferred. As when you are trying to see something happening in the moment speed is of the utmost importance.
Once you click into one of the devices it will take about 10ish seconds to load and you’ll have the ability to play/pause, SD/HD, sound on/off, enlarge, timeline (so you can easily scrub through events), picture, activating microphone, record video, siren, warning light, and privacy mode. On the top right you have your settings. Which include the ability to rename the camera, firmware version, notifications, motion detection settings, sound settings, auto night vision, privacy mode, performance mode, battery status, audio recording, Status LED, image rotation, device info, and remove device. I’m not going to talk about all of these settings.
The Motion Settings allow you to change how sensitive it is for both people and motion along with setting up motion zones and if you want the LED light or siren to go off.
Under Events Tab you have the two cameras, then once you click into one you have the dates, along with anything captured. So straight forward there.
For the settings you have home & away, my devices, manual recordings, and snapshots, test your wi-fi, Alexa, Google assistant, feedback, and account settings. I do NOT believe that Alexa or Google work on this device, but it does on other models.
PERFORMANCE OUTSIDE 4/10:
Isn’t good and I am left highly disappointed. With this being a 2K device you would expect picture quality to be quite good. Unfortunately, they add way too much sharpness in the daytime to the point where it makes things other than people extremely hard to see. It is so bad that I had a bird on the screen that I could not even tell was there because it blended in with the ground (see attached photo). Upon zoom into anything it will immediately turn into a pixelated mess with no usable information. Night mode was better but still not great.
The other huge issue that I had with this camera (despite having it setup exactly how they recommended) is it actually picking anything up. I have another camera on a different view that is covering the same place from another company that picks things up all the time with extremely good accuracy and also tells me if it is a person, movement, package, vehicle, or animal and it’s at 1080p and has better picture quality. This one only tells me when there is a person and even that is like 50/50 if I’m being nice. One of the cameras is right outside my front door, and when I walk outside right in front of it and out to the street it won’t pick me up leaving but it will pick me up coming back nearly instantly. It never picks up animals. The one in the backyard only picks people up when they are super close to the device and then cuts recordings off quickly. I even have all the detection settings on Max. With that said I’ve had this camera system for five days; it’s only picked up about 10 events which is way low and battery is 93 and 95%. Which makes me slightly concerned about the overall longevity if it were working the way I would want with it picking up what is going around my house like my other camera does. But taking down the device and taking out the battery is easy so at least that isn’t an issue.
I did notice that my wireless connection on my Astro A20 and A50 headsets would drop out occasionally when I had the unit plugged in hardwired in the same room that was never present beforehand. So, something to keep in mind if you have wireless headsets or something else near it.
When you are using the talk feature it worked well. I was able to hear the other party just fine and they were able to hear me.
CONCLUSION:
I am not a fan and it’s a pass for me. As I judged this based off being an outside camera which I really don’t think it is made for. As I think all the issues I had would be resolved if I were using it inside my home or garage. So, I think I WOULD recommend for indoor use with a higher star rating of 4/5 or 5/5. I WOULD NOT recommend for outdoor use and rate that a 2/5 3/5. Mainly, because other cameras that cost less can do more for outdoors. I think for the price of this system it needs to have a higher IPX rating, better picture quality, and more important than those two being able to differentiate between packages, people, animals, or vehicles and actually pick them up. As I wasn’t able to get this to pick up really anything until I was practically waving at it. If something were to happen and I had to try and identify someone or something I don’t think the footage would be long enough or sharp enough to be of any use. Which makes this unit completely useless which really is unfortunate. As not having to pay a monthly fee and it being completely wireless is great.

Almost perfect closed-loop, easy to use DVR
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I have to preface this review with that I am well familiar with Lorex DVR/NVR’s, having installed them at my significant other’s home and my office. I am also not new to the whole remote web-based monitoring cameras out on the market, having used one of the earliest web-connected webcams for the last 8+ years to monitor the interior of my home.
I was excited to use this wire-free camera from Lorex especially since I had tried some of the other models on the market and were rather disappointed with certain hit or miss features. My primary attraction to the Lorex is that it has local storage and that it’s a QHD system that is remotely accessible from inside and outside of the home network. My current internal cameras are all web-connected but I am also paying for a subscription service for the connected storage and not much else.
Setup:
The setup could not have been easier. Charging the batteries took some time, I’d say 5 hours roughly. I put the batteries into the cameras before plugging in the two included MicroUSB cables into the back of the camera’s to charge them. This meant that while I was charging the batteries, the base station could not be plugged in and powered up. I did find another micro USB cable and charger and plugged in the base station for the initial setup.
The base station can be connected to the internet via ethernet or wifi, The cameras connect to the base station via a second private wifi network that the unit creates. Once the Lorex Home app is downloaded on your mobile device, and you are signed in. It is a matter of pressing the ‘sync’ button on the back of the base station to put it in pairing mode. Follow a few prompts, and you are done in about 2 minutes. Altogether, setting up the base station and the addition of the cameras took about 5 minutes.
Battery Life:
The battery life I found was acceptable, though depending on the settings of your video capture, be it “performance mode” (1080P), “High Performance” (QHD mode), Low Power, or custom mode, your battery life will vary. That said the High-Performance QHD model is best used with a powered connection, as the app states record in 2K (1440P) with no duration limitations.
On average I found a 2-3% drain per day in performance mode (1080P), so the unit will need recharging every 30 or so days. Recharging can be done by either pulling the battery and charging it outside of the unit or plugging the power into the back of the camera.
Weather Protection:
This one will be controversial since the weather protection is IP65. It’s dustproof, but only waterproof to light sprinkles of low-pressure water. If you are going to use it outside and expect it to perform like a normal DVR/NVR, you will need a continuously powered optional ‘outdoor power connector”. The wires that come with the unit are not outdoor rated to be continuously connected to the power connector. As it is, the weather sealing on this unit is only good for the occasional sprinkle. That said unless you have it located in a place where it’s shaded from the elements and you can wire this one permanently to be powered as a regular camera, this best left to be indoor or well shaded in an outdoor area.
Motion Detection & Storage:
I was very happy with the motion detection and capture ability of the camera. While my internal always-on internet-connected or the DVR/NVR cameras are constantly streaming/recording their video to the world/storage, these Lorex cameras only capture when motion is detected. Which means you are not going to use a whole lot of data storage. Even so, the person detection mode on the camera coupled with the activity zones do a rather good job of capturing motion. My only gripe with motion detection is that it does not work when facing a wall and or shooting through glass.
The camera is best limited in storage. It comes with a 32GB Western Digital Purple NAS line MicroSD card. Thinking that 32GB may not be enough, I’d say perhaps, depends on what you are using it for. Since the camera does not record continuously, and will only record when motion activated, the camera storage is not utilized all that much. 32GB will go along way. In a week of use, I used only about 2 GB of storage and most of it was from the higher motion-sensitive located camera.
Talking about video quality, there is a noticeable video compression used for storage, whatever compression they are using it is effective in keeping video quality high without taking up too much space. There are artefacts and ‘edge sharpening in the higher QHD mode, which make it looks a lot sharper, and probably is a higher quality video but, but I personally like the performance “1080P” mode, it enough to be able to identify objects size and shape. You do not need to be able to read a license plate from a distance.
Optical quality:
I estimate the resolution on the sensor to be around 4MP (the Lorex manual and specifications do not call it out), which would make for a QHD sensor. The camera image quality is more than adequate for the sensor size. I found the picture quality sharp, the image vibrant and it has a wide field of view, overall I have no complaints. The night-time auto-iris that turns on with a click works rather well to light up an image indoors. Night-time outdoor image quality is not very good due to the limited distance on the IR LEDs, but that is a limitation with most systems.
The camera’s feature a “security light” which when turned on, shines a white LED’s when motion is detected. I found that the change between turning on the LED light and turning off the auto-iris and night mode tends to blind the image for a micro-second. I found it better to try to use ambient light as much as possible or turn off the LED security light feature - depending on your use requirements. In my case, I found the camera pointing towards the street works great in colour mode, while the interior ones are perfect to use the infrared mode.
App review:
The Lorex app that accompanies this camera is definitely improved compared to the other Lorex apps I use to connect to my DVR/NVR. This one allows you to change the multitude of settings, from motion detection sensitivity to activity zones on the phone. I liked the app allowed you to capture picture and videos as needed while remotely having a conversation with a person via the phone app. I also liked that I could turn off all the lights (status light / LED lights / IR lights) via the app. The app is the central part of the experience and I’ll say the ease in reviewing captured footage as well as scrolling through the timeline is a win for me. The app also lets you see how strong the wifi between the base station and the cameras are for optimal placement.
Conclusion
So what would be this good for? This is great for quick discrete recording, be it at home or in the office. I plan to use this around the house as the cameras can be easily moved around the home. Originally, I wanted to cover the front door due to the increased number of break-in incidents in my neighbourhood. The location I needed to install the camera was on the top of the steps to my front door, the motion detection did not work due to the close proximity to the wall, and further, the mount was a bit insecure. I put the camera inside in the second position on the window sill (picture enclosed), but that did not work as motion detection does not work through the glass. I may have to go for another solution for my front door, maybe the new Lorex wired Door Bell camera with local storage.
That said, I’ve always had camera’s inside my house to monitor activities and these new Lorex cameras will replace my internal cameras, thus saving me the cost of the monthly online storage and retrieval. I am looking forward to seeing if this system can be expanded with additional cameras as needed. It would be just lovely to add 2 more camera’s. The image quality is fantastic and the app experience is great. I like the way the cameras operates and the ease of use.
Pros:
* Easy to activate, use and live with.
* Centralized local storage that is remotely accessible, and remote notification of motion activation
* Love the 2-way microphone/talk feature and the loud alarm siren feature that can be remotely activated.
* Image quality, image colour rendering, image resolution and wide image field-of-view in “performance” 1080P mode are good enough for surveillance requirements. You can run QHD should you need a higher resolution but you need to plug it in.
* Amazing and highly functional Lorex Home app for controlling and viewing your cameras
Cons:
* Motion detection does not work when facing a wall or shooting through glass
* The wall mount is horrible. One can quickly remove the camera by just tugging on the camera. If you mount it accessible outside, people can steal it, if you mount it discrete it would be hard to get to it for recharging the batteries.
* Weatherproofing is a bit weak, the base cover for the batteries and the USB slot on the back of the camera is not very weatherproof. IP65 is okay if you have good shade from the elements to keep the cameras outside.

What i like about the product:
-Easy to set up just download Lorex Home App the rest it's very intuitive ( charge the batteries first about 4 hrs)
-Build quality it's good.
-NO MONTHLY FEE it's great
- Comes with mounting kit, stickers, 2 chargers, memory card.
-As i tested the camers they do the job as I expected.
-They impressed me for how far away from the hub they still work
What I wish it had more:
-Picture quality. You have to set it on Hd performance to have a useful picture. And at night unless you have some lights on don't have high expectations
All in one for someone who's looking for An entry level security camera i'll give it a buy!
Don't forget No Monthly Fee and WireFree. I guess that is the selling point.

Great system if you know what you're getting

To begin, I have active subscriptions to Google Nest and also Ring for my security systems. I am basing my review solely on comparing all 3 systems together. There are pros and cons to everything and I will try my best to fairly compare them to each other.
If you use or have had used Ring, the Lorex will feel very similar to it.
Packaging
=====================
Box contains all you need to get started. Remember, you have 2 cameras, so make sure you know where you want them. Comes with lots of papers to read, 2 wall mounts with templates to make it easier and it's hardware, 2 batteries that need charging (took me ~4.5 hours), 2 chargers with cords (1 for the base station) that I used to charge both batteries at the same time before plugging 1 into the base station permanently, ethernet cable and the base station itself.
Setup
=====================
Base station comes with a 32gb WD purple Micro SD card preinstalled to get you started. I swapped it out with an extra 128gb Samsung EVO I had lying around (more on this later). Instruction book is more like a picture book to get you to download the app. Obviously need it to get started. Once DLed and an account created, you start setting up your base station (scanning the QR code on the bottom). I took the wireless route instead of hard lining it directly to my router as I had no extra open ports. I do not have any performance issues at all compared to my Ring or Nest. Once the base station was connected to my WiFi you simply hit the giant plus to add the cameras one at a time. I did not mount either camera and just placed them in my Living Room and the other on a shelf in the garage.
App
=====================
The app is pretty basic but gets the job done. Very easy to navigate and you scroll left or right to find your camera. Home screen shows your cameras and the last thing you view LIVE (not what it last recorded). Events will show all camera notification that you have set up for them and anything from your base station. Settings gives you various things of what you can do or how to set up your devices.
Performance
=====================
I have both my cameras set up on the highest performance to record, 2K 1440P quality.
You have 3 settings 720, 1080 and 1440 plus a custom if you wish to do it. On average per day both cameras would drain roughly 2% battery. There are solar options, but I have yet to find one from Lorex made for these cams yet. One thing I notice is that even at 2K I posted a picture of a Dell PC that was measured to be 5 ft 8 inches away from the Living Room cam and you see it all pixelated and grainy (sadface). But as long as you don't zoom, the picture quality filling the phone looks SUPER nice and clear. My garage cam shows the difference between Night Vision (gray pic) and Forced Color Night Vision /w Light.
Comparisons
=====================
Nest cams I use with my sub record 24/7 as long as it has internet and power. Never miss a beat with what they are looking at.
Ring cams only record when motion is detected or you are viewing the cams LIVE.
Lorex will only record when YOUR PERSONAL CONDITIONS ARE MET. I caps that on purpose. For example, you can set your motion zone (like the competitors) and say when motion is detected, record it. Even when you view live footage, it does not record until you hit the Record Button. All video is stored on the base station itself. When I swapped the 32 micro SD for the 128, you go into the Base Station setting and format the card for use. Also you can Privacy mode to turn off live view, sound, recording and notifications.
(Please remember that I am comparing to paid subscriptions that I have)
Conclusion
=====================
I really like the Lorex 2K as a subscription-free security system.
Video quality though is the exact same in my opinion as my Nest or Ring cams. App is fine for what it is. Although these cams are rated for either indoor or outdoor use, I lean pretty hard on them for being used indoors, unless you can cover them outside without hindering their line of sight.
2 way mic works exactly like Nest and Ring. Sound quality to me is the same. Loud and clear. The siren/alarm is blaring loud. Good for a deterrent. You can also change the volume within the app. All status LEDs can be switched off for further concealment.

The AI makes all the difference!

This my first wifi security camera bundle, not my first security system. I've had a Lorex wired system for a few years now and can attest to the system and camera quality so when I discovered they now offered a wireless 2K camera system, I thought I'd give it a try. It arrived with everything in the box needed to set it up and it doesn't need much. I'm happy to see the central hub has built-in storage with the included and upgradable 32GB MicroSDXC card. Other systems include non-removable or upgradable storage or force you to pay monthly fees. I'm quite happy with the fact I don't have to go crawling around in the attic to lay cable then drill holes in the soffit to connect to the camera. There's no plugging in at all, the 2x18650 LiPo cells in the battery pack of each of the 2 cameras are rated at 6 months or more so, as long as you don't place them in hard to access areas, they should be easy to take out and recharge. Both cameras operate over wifi with the main hub as long as it's within range.
Setting up the main hub can be accomplished with the included ethernet cable or wirelessly, I chose wireless and it took a couple of tries before I got it connected. You need to follow the sequence in the booklet, log in to the Lorex Home app and add new system, follow prompts then turn on the hub and press the little button on the back until green light flashes, then continue setup. Then you connect the cameras one by one by pressing the button on the bottom inside the battery compartment and clicking add camera in the app. In all took me 10 minutes to do.
I've used it about a week now and really like the picture quality of the 2K cameras and how you can zoom in on something and still see it clearly. The enhanced color night mode works quite well with minimal pixelation that increases as it gets darker as you would expect. At midnight, you could actually see stars in the night sky which is amazing! The IR night vision brightens an area up to 30ft out in all directions. The built-in garden light is bright enough to be seen from afar and illuminates an area up to 15ft in front. I would have to say my favorite feature of the system is the advanced AI that only notifies you if it sees a person. It's so refreshing to not get bugged every time a bug flies in front of the camera or a car passes by like my old system. In the summer, bugs see the light that activates the first time it sees "something" and they keep flocking around making the notifications go constantly all night. The AI eliminates all that and doesn't bother you unless it identifies people in it's field of view.
My only dislike is that the Lorex Home app doesn't show you both cameras in real time; you have to click and wait for them to open. Also, if I connect through my tablet, it kicks me out of the phone and vice versa. Otherwise the two way talk and siren function are great ways to get unwanted people's attention. I live behind a golf course and have gate access, sometimes I get evening golfers coming in and retrieving their balls so I look forward to bleeping the siren at them!

Lorex! Impressive as ALWAYS

This is the second Lorex product I have received from Best Buy (Lorex 4K Ultra HD Security System) being in Law Enforcement I had heard of Lorex but had never purchased any of their products. That system is amazing, and the cherry on top is THERE ARE NO MONTHLY FEES INVOLVED with Lorex. My neighbor has a different system, that in my opinion, does not compare to Lorex and he has to pay a monthly subscription.
Having said all of that, I received the Lorex 2K QHD wire-free system in white and as the old saying goes, good things come in small packages. As from the attached pictures you can see that the camera’s themselves are very compact and are really not noticeable. I have these installed inside our home as added security, simply because w/ the other system I received I purchased two additional cameras and I used these two to point into our two most used doorways in our home. One of which I built a small shelf under our covered porch (rain/snow etc cannot reach the camera - and nor can anyone approaching the camera) I have an outlet on the porch and the fact that they must be recharged and its going to be easier to leave the battery in the camera and charge that way.
I am amazed at the quality of this camera system, again, from the size of the cameras to the Hub which operates them to the App that Lorex has designed, its simple to install, simple to watch “past events” to Live View, everything you need is included, cables, mounting brackets, mounting plate, bracket, right down to the inserted memory card, oh, and did I mention, there are NO MONTHLY FEES!
I’m certain there may be higher priced systems out there, that you have to pay for, but again, I have actually viewed my neighbors system, which is more expensive than the system I received, but in my opinion the picture quality of these cameras is actually superior.
UPS delivered a package the second day I had it installed, and the camera detected him immediately, I wasn’t at home and I was amazed of the quality of the video on my iPhone 12+. It says 2K, it looks 4K its that clear. Being a retired law enforcement officer that detection is key in being able to see real time, this system has it all when it comes to clarity, day or night. We recently purchased a puppy, and my wife has had to take her outside as we train her, I went back to look at the quality at night and the picture quality is great, again, comparable if not better than other systems. The built in LED’s are phenomenal. I am very happy with this system, and trust me, installation was a breeze because Lorex provides the mounting templates and anything & everything you could possibly need.
If you are looking for a simple, but powerful in design and functionality, with crystal clear point of view, crystal clear video, day or night, rain or shine, this system is for you. Its a quality product from a quality company.

It does everything as advertised. But it does it just adequately. The install is easy and is the use of the app. I previously had Lorex security camera system at home so I was familiar with their app. I used these camera's mainly to monitor the inside of my home. I find the design of the cameras themselves a little awkward to install outside i.e. on the eve's of the home. I might be a little old school, but I prefer the bullet style cameras. But what the design of these camera does well is, it sits perfectly on any table or bookcase. Speaking of this, where this camera is a winner is that with the use of the battery, this camera can be used wirelessly and be placed anywhere. Very cool. No more trying to hide wires. Also, the hub is placed next to the router which makes recording and viewing a breeze. No cloud storage fees. One thing I thought of that was a bonus was if you placed the hub somewhere discreet, the recording can be saved in the event of anyone burglarizing your place. I really like that I can move this camera to a different location if necessary. This particular camera system is good for someone who needs to monitor an area where installing a traditional camera system is difficult.

About the Lorex 2K QHD Wire-Free Security System
The Lorex 2K Wire-Free Security System is advertised as a high image quality wireless security camera system without monthly subscription costs. It is powered by rechargeable batteries similar to other wireless camera systems, and it is rated to be used indoors or outdoors. There is an app for your phone to get alerts and control the camera settings. I have used other wireless camera systems, and wanted to give this one a try since I have the Lorex 4K DVR camera package.
Features
There are lots of features for this camera, so I’ll list a few of the features I think are important or unique for this type of product.
• No Monthly subscriptions
• Up to 2K QHD video recording resolution
• Event alert recording with person detection
• Memory card video storage
• Video and picture capture options
• Wall Mounts
• Built-in White LEDs
Appearance
I was pleasantly surprised with the scale of the cameras. They were roughly the size of a Nest camera which is about the maximum that I was looking for. They do have a little bit of a “baby monitor” style about them, but they are fairly unobtrusive.
Setting Up
The camera system comes with 2 cameras, 2 rechargeable batteries, the home hub, 1 USB-A to Micro USB-B power cord, an ethernet cord, and 1 battery charger (AC receptacle). In my opinion, they should have included another battery charger and cord since you have 2 batteries in this package. Also, per the manufacturer’s instructions, there is an option to get permanent power cords if you purchase them separately. I think that they should have included those as well.
Installing the cameras was quite easy. First, you need to charge the batteries to full charge. Mine took about 4 hours per battery. This is just a plug and play charge, but the battery needs to be removed from the camera. Second, you have to download the Lorex Home app to complete the setup. I was already using it because I have their doorbell too. This just added the security cameras to my existing set up, so I was able to move right along. You set up the hub to connect with the app, and then add each camera separately to the system. I had no trouble get the cameras to communicate with the hub.
Once everything is set up you place the camera where you’d like to use it. I recommend trying to set it in the location before placing any of the mounts. That way if you have any interference or a weak signal you haven’t committed to installing the mount. Could save you some trouble. My locations weren’t far from the hub, but they did go through walls and floors. Also, I chose to keep them indoors. The one that I placed at the backdoor had a fluctuating signal reading, but the picture seemed fine.
Video
Video Recording – This gives you an option for live views and event recordings. This does not record 24/7. The person detection seemed accurate as it detected every time I walked in front of the camera.
Video Quality – The highest quality is clear during the daytime. Night recording was disappointing. It states that it has color night vision, but I never saw it work. The camera that was in complete darkness most of the time always had the green/gray night vision. The camera at our backdoor could not handle anything sitting adjacent to the camera and it always focused on that object though it wasn’t an issue during the daytime. This was probably my biggest issue with the product.
Reviewing the Video Footage – The video review playback software is not easy to use. Lorex needs to revamp this whole part of their product line. It was bad with the doorbell, and it’s the same for the security cameras.
Other Notes
Naming the Cameras – You can name the cameras, so that when you get an alert you will know which camera it is immediately.
White LED Lights – The cameras are equipped with bright white LED lights. They can come on when the camera is triggered. I turned this feature off because I do not want the intruder knowing that they are being filmed or for them to know where the camera is located.
Status Lights - You have the power to also turn off the status lights, but there are still red lights that stay on while filming. Would be nice if you could turn these off as well.
Battery Usage – Our camera in the high usage zone used around 16% of the battery in 5 days. The camera in the low usage zone (mostly night vision) only used around 2% of the battery in 5 days.
Subscriptions – These cameras do not require a subscription like most of the other camera systems. This is probably the best benefit of this product. It records straight to an internal memory card so it’s all built into the camera.
App - This product uses the Lorex Home app. My other Lorex cameras use the Lorex Cloud app. I have 2 apps using the same manufacturer’s products.
I’m giving the Lorex 2K QHD Wire-Free Security System 3 stars. Not having a subscription fee and its high quality recording are its best features. If Lorex would throw in the missing items and fix the night vision, I would give it 4 stars. If they could also fix the video playback then it would approach 5 stars.

I am someone who 100% hates when a company forces you into a subscription to use their product in any way, ahh LOREX, come to daddy! Unfortunately I would later be saying " LOREX, why, why?"
Comes with 2 wall mounts and templates for simplification, 2 batteries that you must charge COMPLETELY for 5 HRS!, chargers, Base station, CAT 6 cord and manuals. For me the manuals left alot to be desired, luckily there was a video already posted on youtube to help me through part of the setup, but only part. You MUST download yet another companys APP to be able to even use the product, this is where I begin to lose interest. Then once that is downloaded you MUST create an account, I am now ready to almost walk away because I am so sick of this with everything you buy nowadays. I kept going and had an irritating time with connecting the cameras & keeping them connected to the hub. luckily I decided to checkout how things would work before I went through the trouble of climbing on the roof to mount them, I am not thrilled with the clarity & not certain that these are truly outdoor cameras but rather cameras that should stay indoors.

Great Upgrade From 1080p Lorex Wire-Free System
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
A couple years ago I had purchased a Lorex 1080p Wire-Free system with 4 cameras. That system needed setup using a mouse and records to micro SD card while displaying to a TV or monitor over HDMI. So I am familiar with the Lorex Wire-Free system & when I had the opportunity to try this new 2K system by Lorex I was happy to do so! Oh and I have a wired system from a competing vendor as well at our home.
Packaging
The packaging of this Lorex 2K system is really nice. They put a lot of things into a pretty small box. It is about the size of a subwoofer for a home theater system. However, the items inside the box are pretty small. I did have one insert/piece that looked like it held something but there was nothing there, so I was perplexed for a moment but I inventoried everything that came and it appears everything made it into the box & packaging.
Overall Design
The NVR/DVR of this system is about the size of a Google Home. The cameras are battery operated & Wi-Fi enabled so the system operates totally wire-free in that regard. Of course the NVR/DVR does need a power source & has a micro SD card preinstalled. Included is the wall mounting pieces, a couple of stickers to act as a guide for mounting the pieces to the wall & of course 2 wall to USB adapters as well as the USB cable to power the NVR/DVR for the cameras. It includes 2 of the cables & wall adapters so that you can charge 1 camera while using the other for the Home-looking storage device.
Setup
Now if you are like me you have spare wall to USB adapters. I used a spare and was keeping the 2 included ones for the cameras. I read in the instructions that the base (Home-looking recorder) should chime and the LED should flash green when it boots allowing you to pair it with your phone. I was not experiencing that so attempted to reset it multiple times to no avail. I also couldn't get it to work with my Lorex app I had for my old system. I emailed my contact at Best Buy who manages the Tech Insider Network who gave me the email for our Lorex contact. In between sending both of those emails & receiving the response (which was super fast) I happened to check the wall adapters to spot the differences...volts were the same but amperage was different. My spare I was using was just a fraction of the included amperage. Oops! I immediately emailed stating I found the problem, what it was in case someone else had the issue. I replaced the wall adapter and I heard the chime & saw the flashing green LED! Great! Open my old Lorex app again, scanned the QR code on the bottom of the Lorex base but it wouldn't add to the app and was giving me an error about the Device ID being invalid! What the heck! I finally scanned the QR code in for the app in the manual & it took me to the Apple App Store to download a new & different Lorex Home app. Again, oops! It would have been nice to know it was different than the previously released app that I was using but that is OK.
Once I had the correct wall adapter & Lorex App the setup was a breeze! I signed in & set up my base as a wireless base instead of running ethernet to the router. It sits next to the router but with open LAN ports limited to only 4 and all 4 already in use for other security camera systems as well as my desktop gaming PC I wanted to just have it operate over Wi-Fi. Setup and adding to the app are super easy.
App Setup & Testing
I did some testing with one of my sons. The app defaults to 1080p viewing & recording instead of 1440p or 2K. Which is kind of weird for a system touted as being 2K but easy to change. I enabled 2-way audio and set up my home radius so that it would only notify me once we were outside of that radius I set up. I did this because while there was only two of us at home at the time I was getting a lot of push notifications. That too was easy to make happen. The set up and use is super easy & intuitive.
Also the app allows you to set the cameras into privacy mode so that so that it doesn't record audio or video. I wish there was a way to automate this but I haven't found that ability yet. Also, setting a schedule for on/off of the privacy mode would be great too. Again, I haven't found that yet.
As I previously said, I enabled the 2-way audio and tested it out by talking back and forth. Of course there is a slight lag but it is to be expected. The image quality is crisp, the audio is clear & the LED light is nice & bright! The night mode is clear too at 2K and even 1080p.
Closing Thoughts
I am a believer in Lorex & their products. The build quality is great & everything is pretty intuitive. The fact that it is totally wire-free with no monthly cost is and will always be the selling point for me. I love the Lorex products so much that I was asked for camera recommendations from 2 family members not long after my first Lorex system purchase. I gave each of them the link to purchase one like my original system & they did. I went over to help each of them set everything up & while theirs appeared to be a different revision (camera batteries appeared maybe updated? or somehow changed) but again, set up was easy then too. I will now be recommending this 2K system to my friends & family.
I only wish it came with more cameras. I know it would raise the price of the system but I feel it would be well worth it. I am on the fence on if I will be purchasing more of the cameras compatible with this system or if I will wait for Lorex to update their wire-free solutions to 4K. When I go to upgrade I know I will go for the Lorex 4K or 8K wire-free system as it has not let me down any time I have personally used the system or recommended it to family & friends!
If you want great image quality, great build quality, easy to use & no monthly fee then this is most definitely the camera system solution for you!

I am really quite pleased with the Lorex - 2K QHD WIRE-FREE SECURITY SYSTEM. It does exactly what it is supposed to do.
For me, one of the first "tests" of a quality product is in the way it is packaged. Lorex deserves kudos for top-notch superior packaging. They took the time and effort to make sure it presented a quality representation of its product.
The unit comes with two cameras, a base station, and the cords and batteries necessary for installation. The install was a tad bit sketchy. The included instructions are lacking in contextual directions, meaning there are some things left to figure out on your own. Nothing catastrophic, mind you, but enough to make for a mildly stressful install. This was most notable in the setup of the hub and cameras to the wifi. The rest of the instructions were quite complete.
The app that is downloaded is perfect. It is simple, intuitive, and actually works away from the house, unlike another brand I won't mention. The app allows for full control of the cameras, with voice options, and sound options, and even allows you to switch between standard resolution mode and high definition mode.
The cameras include rechargeable batteries and the necessary cords to recharge them. Some may see this as a negative, but this is a WIRELESS system, and therefore does not have power cords...otherwise it wouldn't be wireless. This does raise a concern or two, seeing that this will necessitate monitoring of power levels. But that is simply the price we pay for wireless.
After the initial setup, it was time to actually install the cameras. It is a very good idea to make sure the hub is placed in a location that is central to the installed cameras, otherwise you might run into some reception issues. Again, the instructions were not overly informative on how to actually assemble the base to the mounting bracket, but after a few moments of tinkering around, I discovered that once the base of the camera is attached to the mounting plate, you must actually slide the base downward till you feel it secure itself.
After deciding where I wanted to mount the two cameras, and getting them secured and tested for signal strength, it was time to put the system to the test.
The motion detection is quite good and sensitive. It picks up activity from my driveway. I have the other camera in the rear of the house inside, and like almost all other systems, it will not detect motion through windows. So no demerits there. Anytime it detects motion, a message is sent to my phone, and I am able to open the app and see what it happening. The app on my phone works great with both wifi and cellular.
The speaker quality is very good, and is crisp and clear. The microphone is very good as well.
I would say the picture quality is mostly good on the higher definition settings but somewhat marginal on the lower setting.
The Lorex Voice Assistant, for me, is unnecessary in view of the more-than-adequate app. All-in-all, I would highly recommend this product to anyone needing a good, basic home security system.
PROS
Simplicity!
Good video, speaker and microphone
Ease of use with the Lorex app (A huge plus!)
The ability to add as many cameras as you need.
The motion detection capabilities are very good
Rechargeable batteries.
CONS
There is a somewhat limited mounting system which could make for some camera placement issues for some applications.
There is a lack of full-complete installation instructions.
This is not a system designed for larger homes unless you have a wifi extender.
Again, in spite of the minor cons, this is a system I would highly recommend.

A great Lorex security system

First impression:
My first impression of the Lorex 2K Wire-Free Security system is that it is a good system with well-built cameras. The battery is held in place by a metal latch, and the bottom cover is tight and secure. The cameras have a little weight to them, and I like that because it feels very well made.
I like Lorex cameras. I have installed quite a few security systems over the past 10 years using various Lorex cameras. While I have gotten a wide range of quality in various NVR recorders, all of my Lorex cameras work beautifully.
App:
All interaction with this system is through the app. The layout of the app is minimalist without any clutter. It displays the cameras, settings, events, and allows you to add new devices. I already have a single camera on this app from an earlier review. I like having the first camera, which is a different Lorex camera, and these new Lorex cameras all sharing the same app.
Setup:
Setup on this system is simple. The hub installed quickly and easily. Adding the cameras goes through a pairing process with quite a few steps. The first camera didn’t pair. I went through pairing 3 times and it timed out every time. I thought I might have a bad camera, but when I went back into the app, the camera was there. So, I started the pairing of the second camera, and it paired instantly. When I went into the app, both cameras were in there. I changed the name of the first one and they both are working correctly.
Performance:
When you select a camera, it takes about 3 seconds for the camera to start streaming. For non-wired cameras, that isn’t bad. If you swipe across the camera, it automatically switches to the other camera. Switching back and forth takes less than 2 seconds to start streaming.
In power-saving mode, the camera is in 720p. The quality is good and the low light mode is acceptable. In performance mode, you are seeing 2.7K. The video is very clear and crisp, and the colors are really good for a security camera. The amazing thing with these cameras is that setting it to 2.7K provides great video, but the difference between 2.7K and 720p isn’t as much as I thought it would be. The 720p mode had more graininess but still provided a good picture. These cameras do very well in low light, actually better than the cameras I am currently using at my house for my own security system. I have seen better, but I believe the image in night vision mode would be good enough to identify someone if needed.
The two-way mic worked much better than I anticipated. The audio was loud and clear, much better than on other security cameras I have reviewed and used.
The MicroSD card that came with it is very high quality. That is unusual for MicroSD cards included in devices in my experience. I usually buy quality replacements and swap them out before using them. No need to do that in this case.
The cameras have quite a few features that are normally seen on more expensive cameras. The various motion detection has different sensitivity settings, zones, and even light settings during detection. The audio level for both the siren and speaker/mic can be separately configured. And even though the app can only be used by one person at a time, you can share it with someone who also has a Lorex account so it can be used by both parties without being logged out.
While testing the cameras, a firmware update became available. I chose to update it. The app said the update will take 10 minutes. The complete update took less than 5 minutes and both cameras fired up immediately after the update.
Battery charging took quite a while. I didn’t time it as I should have, but it was long enough that I would buy two extra batteries if I were to use this system as my primary. That way I could have 2 fully charged batteries to swap when needed without having a camera down for hours.
Finally, while not really a performance topic, this system is completely contract-free. You buy it, take it home, set it up, and when a camera detects motion, you are sent an alert
Conclusion:
My security system at my house is a wireless system. It is also controlled by an app and uses a hub. I like that system, it has really good video and the batteries last over 2 months for each camera. But it is a very slow system. I plan on doing more serious testing with this system because I am considering either replacing my home system with this one or adding this to it for extra coverage.
If you need an easy-to-use and set up camera system without all of the advanced features, I recommend this Lorex 2.7K wireless security system. If the first camera installed correctly as the second camera did, I would give this system a 5 out of 5. But even though it is working, I have no idea at what point it installed itself even though it never successfully paired. That being said, I am still giving this system a 4 out of 5 and recommend it.

We instlaled these Lorax camera's at my elderly (75) mother's house. She lives alone in a rural area and is often spooked by unknown doorbell rings or noises in the night. We installed one camera at her front door and one at her back door.
The battery takes a good 5 hours to charge before installation which we did not factor into our set up time so that is good to know. While it charged we downloaded the Lorez App onto my mother's smart phone and begin to teach her the basic's - which are pretty basic and easy for most to understand.
Being wireless makes this set up very easy-took about 20 minutes to get both camera's up.
The camera's provide a great wide field of view and clear picture. We installed ours near a light source so even at night it was east to see images. The App is pretty basic and allows you to set up variables such as motion/person detection, alarm (which is really loud), 2 way voice control, etc. I really like the alarm option for my mom so that she could potentially scare off any unwanted visitors. The best part of this system is that is DOES NOT REQUIRE A SUBSCRIPTION! Granted it does not store data as long as wired systems but is perfect for our situation.
We are hoping the battery life is long lasting as we will need to charge it for my mom but seems to not be draining mush per day.
Excited to have a sense of security for my mom!!

This is a pretty decent camera system, but don't expect something that it's not. As with anything you buy, you should research and understand what you want/need vs what the product can do or is advertised to do.
What it is:
Wireless
This is completely wire free, meaning the cameras are battery operated, so you can place them anywhere you want or need (the base station/hub does have to be plugged into power). You can add up to six cameras to the system, but since this one comes with 2, you could easily move them to any place you might want monitored on any particular day if you desire. You can also mount them, but since they're battery operated, just make sure it's a location you can get to easily enough when it's time to charge the battery unless you opt for the wired power cable they sell.
Battery life
Supposedly the battery lasts up to 6 months (depending on your settings of course), but we shall see. I've had mine over 2 weeks now and set to "Performance" and I'm at 88% still, so if my math is correct (and it's probably not... :) then it should last about 4 months. Which, either way I think is good. If I only have to charge the battery 3 times a year, that's worth the price of admission to me.
Features
There are an abundance of features from auto night vision, to a siren, two-way communication, Google Assistant compatibility, scheduled notifications, privacy mode and more. The best part to me though is the fact that the recording is done to an SD card located in the base station so there is absolutely no subscription service to have to pay for or deal with. Everything is saved locally so a lot of your privacy concerns are mitigated as well.
What it is not:
Picture quality
The picture quality is pretty good for what it is, which is a security camera. You're not going to be recording your wedding with it or your first feature film, but it's adequate for a security camera. I'm by no means a professional security camera quality expert, but I've yet to see security footage that looks like movie quality, which is what I think a lot of people expect for some reason. Especially at night. The quality of night vision with infrared lighting is inherently not great, and for this price point, I think you get as good as you could expect certainly. You're also not going to be zooming in on footage to read the license plate of the car that drove by your house. You can take a snapshot an say "enhance!" all you want, but it ain't happnin. It does not have optical zoom so it's all going to be digital and therefore not great. But that's not what this is. It's a home security camera system that give you flexibility in locations, etc as well as control over the data and will allow you to see if the neighbor's dog took a Devlin in your yard or your kid did sneak out the night before or things like that. Just don't expect to be able to do things with it that it can't or wasn't intended to do and you'll be perfectly happy with it.

I have not yet been able to set up and install these cameras yet.
Due to the recent storms and power outages.
Thx. A. W.
