Powerful Smart Camera and Light Bulb

The device is a powerful and versatile smart camera and light bulb combination. It does a great job at both of these jobs. It can be installed anywhere (indoors or outdoors) where a powered light socket is present. Installation and setup are straightforward and easy, First download the Loex App. Then create an account. Then screw the camera into a light socket. Then pair the bulb to your App. It is that simple. The App walks you through the process. Just make sure the light switch is set to on for whatever light socket you are using. One thing that I did not like, is that each Lorex device needs an individual password. This feature provides more security, but also complicates the process. Essentially I had to create 2 passwords, one for the App and one for the device. The Lorex App is easy to use and allows a considerable amount of control and customization.Everything is logically labeled and is straightforward to figure out. The camera video quality is up to 2K but can be set to below 2K. Thai could be useful if you are using local storage and want to maximize video recording times. The image and sound quality of the camera is excellent. Colors are rich and lifelike. Night vision quality is also excellent. The camera has a pan and tilt function that can be set to automatically follow movement. The motion detection is accurate and easily able to track movement and identify people. I like that there is a privacy mode that physically covers the camera lens so there is no possibility of recording. Since this is a light bulb I should cover the illumination function. This is a capable LED bulb. It gets very bright and the illumination can be adjusted using a slider in the App. Cloud storage is available as part of a paid subscription. Local storage is also available using an SD card. A SD card is not included. I am very happy with this Lorex smart camera light bulb. It is an innovative device that makes adding a camera to many areas very easy. The video and audio quality is excellent. Finally, It is outdoor rated so can be used in a variety of areas.

If your in the market for a smart bulb that has a camera built-in this is probably your ticket unless you're an avid Apple home user as this does not support that but does support everything else including it's excellent OEM Lorex app. Upon installation into the light socket I intended to use it went through a self test and then it speaks with a voice out loud in order to tell you what it's doing and which mode it's in so that you may connect it to the app. You can do so with a simple QR code that is located on the bulb itself as well as the packaging making it very easy. The set up process takes no more than a minute including creating an account if you don't have one with them yet, all very easy. After you're up and running it brings you through a very nice tutorial to make things easy and show you where everything is inside of the app. I found that using the remote control to move the camera is quite responsive more so than I expected it to be. It also reached quite far on Wi-Fi and kept the same 2K camera signal which I was very happy about. I am currently using this to monitor my puppy Jax while I leave the house. It does a great job of detection and I can even tell when the dog is barking signifying to me to check the app to see what’s going on. The main functionality in the app you can take snapshots, record video, talk back-and-forth through the loudspeaker on it and microphone I have Built in, you can set up an alarm like siren, adjust how bright the light is which is actually fairly bright (400 lumens and cool white kelvin temp), you can also turn on privacy mode where it flips the camera upwards to ensure that it’s not monitoring something that you don’t want to be monitored. Of course you can get the on screen joystick up to control where the camera is looking at any time and the app makes great use of this. There is a cloud service for storing your files or if you wish there is a micro SD card slot right on the bulb itself to make local storage a thing which is super convenient and that is what I use as the storage media is very cheap to purchase and stores a fair bit even in 2k resolution. Speaking of resolution the built-in night vision works very well up to around 20 to 25 feet though it’s rated for more you really can’t make out anything after that point but that’s very usable anyway. The bulb itself is on the large side so make sure you take measurements wherever you wanna put it that it will fit in your fixture. The motors are not very loud which keeps it nice and discreet. One thing I really like is that they provide a timeline Where you can view events and track things that you choose like seeing a human etc. throughout the day and go back on your cloud storage or memory card to view them and at what time they happened. I think overall this is a very good jump into a motorized camera, the fact this is a lightbulb and you can just screw it in is a very nice bonus not dealing with wires making it easy to plan out exactly where you want to put this. As long as your not waist deep in the apple home eco system already this provides integration with all the other major players like google and Alexa etc making for a very easy setup of any way you choose.

This is a pretty unique design for a camera, and the convenience of not having to mount a camera in one set spot is a nice option to have. The camera size is not bad, not small, but decent for a camera and light combo. I tested it out with a regular lamp to get comfortable with it for a few days. The app design and hardware is pretty well laid out. Starting off the instructions are a bit bare, but that’s typical since most devices point you to an app to walk you through. There are some audible voice prompts from the bulb that let you know how the setup is going. Overall the setup was pretty easy, I got everything going in about 10 minutes and it did the firmware update for me. I very much like the PTZ option of being able to move the camera around. The light itself is decent and you can turn it on and off through the app, it puts an equivalent of 40W of an incandescent lightbulb of light out, so don’t expect it to light up a large room by itself. You can adjust the brightness of the light from the app as well which I think is a great option. You will be prompted to subscribe to Lorex for cloud storage and other features, but you don’t have to do this. I would highly recommend installing a microsd card though (not included), otherwise it won’t hold any videos recordings unless you do the subscription. I couldn’t find any instructions or app for installing the microsd card, but their website explained it with a quick search, which is below the camera lens under the rubber cover. You also have the option of the camera delivering preset recordings to guest or you have the option to speak to go guest through the bulb speaker, but the volume on that isn’t as loud as the preset responses. Attached is a screenshot of the app and some of the options you have. I also really like the motion tracking and ability to turn the light on when motion is detected, you can select Human or Vehicle activity to trigger recording so it does have some nice AI integrated. The settings for the camera specifically are a bit hidden, took me a couple of days to realize they were there. There is an app option called Home & Away which I was excited to try out, since it is supposed to only notify you of motion activity when you are outside of your home (or selected zone). None of my other cameras have been able to do this successfully, and unfortunately this does not appear to have worked either. I initially was getting some alerts while at home, and when I left the neighborhood, had my wife walk in the camera area a couple of times and I never got alerts, but I could manually go look through the recordings and see the video of her was taken, so its at least picking up the recordings, but if I’m not getting alerted it doesn’t do me much good. I also don’t see a way to select the size of recordings, but you do have the option of selecting the video quality. Downloading the videos is an option, but not the easiest, especially since I wasn’t able to pull up thumbnails to see which video I want to download. I would like to be able to download directly from the Events List. You also have the option to share app access with them, which shares the recordings and camera. Overall, there are lots of options for this camera and the hardware on the camera seems pretty good, but the app could use some updates which really is an easy fix. I would like to see better notifications in general and that work based if I’m home or not. This is my first Lorex camera to own, and I think the value is definitely there. Video quality is pretty good, so good I actually turned it down to 1080p to save room on my SD card. I was originally going to give this camera 4 stars, but the more I played with it and explored different settings the better it got. I definitely think it’s a quality camera for the money and I hope to see app updates with enhanced features down the road for an even better experience.

This is such a quick and easy way to add a camera to a room where it may not otherwise be so easy to put one. Utilizing the lightbulb socket is such a smart idea. Having the camera mounted this way also allows for something that other security cameras may not be able to do, and that is rotate positions. - Setup Setting up the Lorex light was very easy. Download the app, screw in the camera to the socket, turn on the light switch, and add the camera to the app. Very easy. The app does a great job of walking you through the process and being clear about each step. - Software Once the camera is added to the app, there are many options and features that make this camera truly shine. Pun intended, I suppose. Since the camera doubles as a light, you can have it automatically turn the light on when the camera detects movement. Even more impressive still, you can have it only turn on if it detects a person, but not turn on if it detects a vehicle. On top of that, you also can set that to a schedule. So, if you only want the light to turn on during the night, when it detects a person, you can do that too. The software is very well designed. Since the camera can be rotated, not only horizontally, but also vertically, you can view a very wide area using a single camera. Since the camera can't see all these positions at once, the app lets you move the camera using a virtual joystick. Better still, you can set presets of positions that you can quickly jump to from within the app as well. You can even have the camera follow a subject once it detects it. - Hardware The camera and unit itself feel very well made. The one thing to be aware of, is the entire unit is maybe taller than you would imagine. Which, of course, makes sense, since the camera needs to be lower than any fixture you may have it in, so its view isn't blocked. But, that is something to keep in mind for when you're going to install it. The camera quality is also very good. It has several resolution options to choose from, and the quality is very good. It also supports night vision, allowing you to check on a room without having to activate the light. There is also the ability to use the camera as a two-way communication, which can be very handy as well. Overall, this is an excellent option to add a camera in any number of places that you either may not have the option to run a wire, or don't want to worry about charging a battery. There are a couple of things to be aware of. First, like I mentioned previously, the camera does hang down a bit further than a typical bulb would. Second, the color temperature of the light is more of a blue color. So, if you prefer a warmer color that is something else to keep in mind. Pros: Excellent features and camera quality, useful app with great control, easy install, nice hardware Cons: A bit larger than you may expect, color temperature of light doesn't seem to be adjustable and is a bit more blue.

After a little tweaking, this has quickly become my favorite security camera. I am loving this camera and it is my go to camera. Upon first glance, this camera does not look like much. It look slike a standard smart light bulb with a camera on the under side. It is not very robust, and is maybe 150 percent longer than a standard bulb. The first thing I did was turned off the light switch, unscrewed my light bulb and screwed in the new Lorex camera bulb. This is installed above my front door as my main porch light. The camera articulates so I just pointed it forward facing. I downloaded the app and turned on the light switch. Setup is very easy actually and my camera was up and running. The app is very easy to use and user friendly. I loved playing around with all of the settings. This is how I discovered all of the great features. The first feature I love is that you can control the camera fully from the app, almost 360 degrees including zoom. You can also setup motion detection zones. This actually works very good, better than most outdoor cameras I have. I used to get motion notifications from people walking down the sidewalk, but adjusted the motion zone and I no longer got notified. You can also adjust the video quality, which makes a huge difference in your experience. I set the definition to the highest since this is hard wired and does not take up battery. After about a day, I realized that it does not record any video without a subscription. But then I discovered it has a slot for a micro SD card after checking the owner's manual. I had a new 128 GB micro SD card I inserted into it and it now records video from motion detection. I love the fact that I do not have to pay for a subscription to keep recordings. By far the coolest feature that I have discovered is a motion tracking setting for people. Once activated, the camera will follow a person once they are detected. This feature is so cool that every person I show is blown away. They then ask me what camera I am using so they can buy their own. I also activated the motion feature for the light bulb. Now, whenever we pull up, the light turns on for us at night. Same for when we leave. I did not have a motion detector on my old porch light, so this is a nice improvement for me. The bulb also works with Alexa. However, as of now you cannot turn on the light with Alexa, only view the camera on a Fire device with video. This is literally the only negative I can think of with this camera. I would recommend this light bulb camera to anyone who has a front light with a traditional bulb socket. This is a major upgrade in every way, with the added benefit of the full motion camera. I actually disabled the doorbell camera motion notifications and now only recieve the Lorex notifications. It is a must buy!

Not Bad, But Could Use Some Improvement

📦 UNBOXING: Inside the box, you’ll find the basics—the light bulb camera, a quick start guide, and some stickers to put on your window that tell others you have a security camera. 💪 BUILD: The light bulb camera itself feels solid, has good weight to it, and seems reasonably durable for something that will remain stationary in a light fixture. The lighting portion appears above the camera bulb, which means the camera will be admittedly better quality than the light itself. It should also be noted that since this is a fully integrated solution, there really isn’t a way to easily repair the LED should it ever stop working, but that’s honestly probably the least of your worries. The LED is rated for 6500 Kelvin and 400 lumens, which isn’t particularly bright, but if you are using it outdoors, then you’ll be glad to know that it also has night vision. Indoor lights typically have a much higher lumen rating, so I think this would stand out like a sore thumb among indoor lights given its significantly lower brightness. I also don’t love the hue and prefer more halogen bulbs—I do think that if they could increase the brightness and also configure the hue to be warmer, it would be a welcome addition. The camera portion rotates a full 360 degrees, and it can also be tilted a full 90 degrees to face either straight forward (parallel to the ground), or at the ground (perpendicular to the ground). You can also install a microSD card on the rear of the camera. If you opt to use continuous always-on recording, you’ll absolutely want a high quality endurance microSD card. While it’ll eventually burn out your SD card, it should last a lot longer than a standard SD card designed for minimal writes. Personally, I’d recommend using an endurance-rated microSD card with only motion-detected capture to get the most out of the camera. 🛠️ SETUP: Setup is pretty straight forward. Install into any E27 or E26 light bulb socket, download the app, and begin the setup process by scanning the camera’s QR code which is printed on the back of the camera and also on a piece of cardboard inside of the box. One thing to note is that you’ll need a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection for this camera to work, as it doesn’t support 5GHz. The setup process was quite easy, and after a firmware update, I was in action. 📱 APP: The app provides options to control the camera, control the lightbulb brightness, configure sound and motion detection, notifications, and both cloud and local storage settings. I appreciated that I could create presets of different locations I wanted to point the camera to (e.g. Front Door, Sidewalk, Floor, Street), but I did find that selecting my presets often yielded wildly inaccurate results. The camera would often be rotated or tilted too far and things I wanted to be in frame would be out of frame. One thing that also took me some time to understand was the “Home” preset which would automatically engage after about 30 seconds. This meant that if you wanted to observe a different preset, the camera would interrupt you after 30 seconds to return to your “Home” preset. I can understand if it would return to the “Home” preset if I no longer had the app open, but the fact that it does it while I’m trying to observe a different camera angle is quite frustrating. Some other notable features include lightbulb schedules, muting notifications, setting motion detection zones, alarming a siren, and a privacy mode to hide the lens. Another strange anomaly I observed was that the motion detection zones remain the same, no matter which preset you navigate to. So if you happen to change your “Home” preset, you may need to re-configure the motion detection zones. This perhaps isn’t a big deal given most people probably won’t change their “Home” preset very frequently. But if you are like me and you select a preset to view another angle, you may find that your motion detection zones are off because the camera doesn’t consistently return to the same angle. Also, if you do a live snapshot or live recording through the app, the only way I have found that you can look at them again is by clicking the thumbnail preview after the image/video has finished capturing. These are saved directly to your phone’s app storage, yet their app doesn’t seem to provide a way to review them unless you tap on the thumbnail right after capturing. 📺 IMAGE: The image quality is about what I would expect at this price with a peak resolution of 2560 x 1440, but there are also options to stream at 1080p, 720p, and SD (480p). During daylight, the image is pretty crisp, and capturing faces will be dependent on where you place your bulb. If you’re able to place the fixture near the door, it’s certainly more likely that you’ll capture good quality footage of any visitors to your door. But if your camera is high up like mine, then it may be a bit more challenging. There also doesn’t appear to be a native zoom for this camera, so you won’t be able to capture high resolution footage from a distance, either. This isn’t really a concern for me, but I can imagine some folks may have lighting arrangements that could find a zoom lens to be useful. During the night, the footage is also sharp without introducing a ton of noise. And because it’s also a light bulb, it’s able to provide some additional light that you might not otherwise have towards producing a better quality image. During a live stream, I generally found that footage was decent, but when rotating, it was obvious that it was using a low bitrate encoding as artifacts would appear on the stream. The footage is captured at 15fps, which is a decent balance to capture good image quality without also requiring a ton of storage. 🧐 CONCLUSION: Overall, I think that Lorex is off to a fair start with this lightbulb camera. However, if you’re the kind of person who wants to switch between multiple angles quickly, you might be annoyed that it doesn’t consistently return to the correct angles. And the app has a few strange user experience issues that I think should be addressed. But if you’re the kind of person who wants to set it once and not move it, then you may find that it suits your needs. For me, I think it will get the job done being my package camera so I can see what packages have arrived on my porch. But when you look at the landscape of competitors that can do these basic things, it seems hard to justify this higher price point.

I've been looking to add a camera to my garage, and having a camera that I could easily affix to the ceiling with coverage to the whole garage without running an extension cord was attractive to me. At first glance, this would be the perfect solution. Unboxing was simple enough. It's basically the bulb and a QR code directing you to download the Lorex app. The bulb was larger than I expected but I suppose that has to be the case to have a camera, speaker (not for music), light, etc all in one package. To set-up the bulb I used a lamp in my office because I knew that the set-up process would require scanning of QR or unique lamp codes and I didn't want to do that on a ladder. The app download was simple, the signup process was ok, but for some reason when I added the bulb and prompted the app that I would scan the QR on the bulb the camera never opened. I checked my iPhone permission and it has permission to use the camera. Odd. I was able to use the little sticker with the bulb's unique code and entered it manually. I then answered a few questions like which way the bulb would be oriented and I was good to go. The one place the app excels is in the intuitiveness of the app once you're looking at the live camera with the ability to adjust light level, talk through the bulb's speaker, or even sound the alarm. I could see that coming in handy if I have my garage door open and I see one of the neighbor kids getting nosey. Now to the transfer to the garage. Important note. Pay attention. It goes without saying that the bulb needs constant power in order to function. My garage has 3 bulbs in the ceiling that all function on one switch. In order to make this work for me I need to keep the light switch 'on'. Now, the Lorex bulb has smart bulb function built in, so I can have it shut off when there's no one in the garage. The other two bulbs...not so much. To make this work I put two smart bulbs in the other two light sockets and a motion sensor that triggers them on/off when it senses motion. It works OK, but I'd much rather have function back from my light switch at the wall. Ultimately, after a little more tweaking I think I'll like it. It's nice that there is a microSD card slot so you don't have to pay for cloud storage. It's a HUGE bummer that it's not HomeKit compatible because I find it incredibly convenient to pull up my other cameras like the nursery camera on my AppleTV.

This Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Camera, along with the Lorex application, works in conjunction to provide you with a lot of useful features on this audio and video surveillance camera. In the box is the Lorex 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Camera, 2 window stickers, and a Quick Start Guide. Installation/Setup: The installation of the camera itself was as simple as screwing in a lightbulb. The only concern was to make sure there was nothing blocking the camera lens. The setup process requires you to download the Lorex application. Once installed, the Lorex app will guide you through the setup process. These options will give you many choices and include: the orientation of the installed lightbulb camera. Is it installed right side up or upside down? This determines other options. Lightbulb operation is one of the features. Yes, it works as a light bulb, but it also works as a light that comes on when motion is detected if you set it up that way. All this is controlled in the Lorex application. The light can be dimmed as well. Camera features include pan, tilt, zoom, and it will follow a person when a person is detected. There is a Home and Away setting where you can specify your home location. When you are away from that location zone, which you get to set the distance as well, then you will receive notifications. When you are inside that zone, you can set it up to not receive notifications. App features: Home or Away mode, snooze, turn off alerts, notification settings, add more devices, cloud storage, rearrange devices, and notification history. The snapshots and the videos can be kept on a microSD card that is not included, but you can also use the cloud subscription with Lorex, which I have opted to do. The snapshots and videos are downloadable. The resolution of the snapshots and videos are pretty good quality. I used this camera inside only, and the lighting could have been better. You can also control this camera with devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, which you can set up in the Lorex application. Additional cameras, doorbell cameras, indoor and outdoor cameras, floodlight cameras, and other Lorex cameras can be added to build a customized system for home or for business.

--- SETUP --- The setup for this light/camera combo is quick and simple. Download the app and follow the instructions. You will hear the lightbulb speak to you throughout the installation, which tells you that your installation is successful. At first, the bulb wouldn’t connect to my WiFi the first two times. The third time, it connected successfully and I haven’t had an issue since. --- FEATURES --- 2K recording, local SD card memory, 360 degree view, night vision, remote access and control, light socket power source, operates in up to 122 fahrenheit temperature, motion detection, --- PERFORMANCE AND EXPECTATIONS --- Once the bulb is installed and connected to WiFi, you can use the app to control several features. In the app, you can choose how bright the light is. The light itself is bright. However, I installed it next to another one of my bulbs and I couldn’t get it to match the same whiteness as my regular bulb, so keep that in mind if you plan to use it in a room where other bulbs are present. Night vision is a plus in dark areas, as it works really well. A feature that I really like is the privacy feature. I use this bulb indoors, as sometimes I have people go into my apartment to fix things. I leave the camera on while I am away from home, but once I am home, I turn the privacy setting on and you can visibly see the camera rotate up so as to not record. When it is recording, it is easy for me to take a screenshot or save a video to my phone. If you install an SD card, you can have the camera continuously record all day. You will get notifications if someone is within view of the camera or if the camera has been deactivated. You can control the camera and its features remotely as well. Overall, this is an excellent, no fuss, camera plus lightbulb combination. All you need is a lightbulb socket and a phone for the app. No other wires need connecting. --- APPROVAL --- I would recommend this camera/light combo for people who want extra security in their homes but don’t want to deal with the hassle of wires or having to find a power outlet to plug the camera to.

I have quite a few security cameras in my place but this was a nice change of pace from my other ones. I have a complete security camera setup with 6 different cameras placed around my place; both indoor and outdoor. I got this one to supplement those in addition to being the "floater" camera since this one is able to pan/tilt. All my other cameras are static and only point in one direction which is both good and bad. I have great coverage around my place to ensure I get a complete 360 view of my place and outdoor area. This one is great in that I use it indoors. This camera can pan/tilt so I'm able to view a greater area easily without the need of mounting more cameras indoors. The companion app for this is pretty simple and intuitive. Setup is pretty straight forward and only took 10 minutes to complete everything. Once setup, you can pan/tilt the camera as needed, you can get motion alerts (for people or cars) as well as setup a schedule of when the light bulb turns on/off. I'll admit my setup of this camera isn't quite optimal by most accounts. However, as this is supplementing my existing camera system, I think it fills a niche that my other camera couldn't. If you don't have ANY sort of camera or security system in your place, this would be a decent start provided you have a suitable location to set this up in.

Loved the camera and video quality was solid. Had to return it since it needs constant power. My outdoor lights are all linked, so no way to keep one on. Would work better for homes with separate light control, or if they added a battery for times when power is off.

Glad I can purchase Lorex products through Best Buy with a fairly descent price. Shipping came quick. So, I'm satisfied with my experience.

I’m new to the line of Lorex products, with this SL300-AA being my first product from them. This is a multifunction device with camera, light, and siren. I installed it on the ceiling of my front porch after removing one of my overhead spotlights. Between installing its related app and inserting a micro-SD card, it only took about 10 minutes to get it set up and usable. I went the micro-SD direction for local storage as I wasn’t interested in having yet another monthly fee for video storage like with my video doorbell. Once I provided a username and password for the app, I was able to immediately incorporate it into Google Home. I use Google Home for all technology products I’ve installed in my home. From a size perspective, the unit itself is 7.3” in height and 3.37” wide, and it weighs a mere .75lbs. The app is responsive and offers a good number of features. You have a selection of video resolutions as well to choose from (2k, 1080p, 720p, SD, and Auto), with me choosing auto. It has a field view of ~107 degrees, and with motion tracking on, the camera rotates left, right, as well as up and down. Once it senses motion in its field of view, it orients the camera lens to follow whatever caused the motion – typically a person or vehicle (I have vehicle tracking turned off). At night, if it senses motion I have it auto-activate the onboard light for better viewing. It does have night vision, however, if you prefer to leave the onboard light turned off. The unit also offers 2-way communication should you want to talk to someone near the camera. As you may know, you can have a number of these cameras located throughout your property. When in viewing mode, you can select whether to view only one camera, four cameras, or up to nine cameras simultaneously. In landscape viewing mode, you can manually pan an individual camera using arrows pointing to the left, right, and up and down. This camera also has sound detection which activates if a sound is heard that goes above a preset decibel level. And it does even more. You can also automatically trigger the siren if the camera detects a person or vehicle in its field of motion. This feature can be turned on/off based on a preset schedule. All in all, I like this camera system. The camera is very clear and easy to operate. It is basically a set-and-leave-alone type product. The only question I have about it is its survivability in the Phoenix climate. The specs indicate that its max operating environment is -4 degrees to 122 degrees. While it will never be in -4 degrees weather, I’ve heard plenty of stories about 120-degree days here in Phoenix. I guess it’s a good thing it’s sheltered on my porch and not in direct sunlight. I am impressed with this unit, and as such I am giving it a 5-star rating.

I own several security cameras for my primary and vacation homes. With several levels of efficiency, setup, connectivity, and area of coverage in mind, I found that the Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb camera is probably the simplest method of covering a full room with a single device and no need for programming or technology knowledge. As easy as downloading the app, which is downloaded in a few minutes, setting up your account with your basic info and password, and plugging the Lorez as a light bulb. The app recognized the bulb in less than a minute and I was able to view it directly with the camera. As it works as a bulb, I can also switch on and off the light. I love that with the shape of the bulb, you have a 360-degree view that you can control from the app itself, as you can also zoom into areas if needed. Once set, the camera detects movement in the area and takes a picture that will be sent as a notification to your phone. Of course, with easy access to the app, you can also set the parameters to avoid being notified too often when you have visitors. The Lorex, includes a mic and a speaker that allows you to contact a potential visitor. A great image quite nice even ink dark environments I also love that this is a device connected all the time to power and according to specs can be used outdoors (with mention to the cold weather option IP65), for It is a game changer because I plan to use it in the front door of my cabin in the woods. No need to pay a subscription but also a possibility if you are planning to store the images in the cloud. I prefer to just install a memory card that will record data when the device is activated. I absolutely love it.

Setup was relatively simple. There's a Quick Start Guide which directs you to download the Lorex App. The app has many customizations to suit your personal home security needs. Notable features: - privacy mode, so your camera will no longer be monitoring or recording - siren, in event that emergency alerts/warnings are needed - two-way talk, converse with visitors or delivery drivers in real time - set 'quick response' audio messages - record video or take a photo snapshot - turn light on/off, and adjust brightness - manage light activation settings and schedules - customize the camera's motion detection - snooze or turn off alerts - add shared users to give them access to your camera's live view and/or recordings - manage stored videos and snapshots, or view 'recent events' There's also a microSD slot for additional 'on-board' local storage for the device. Of course, you do have the option to pay for the Lorex Cloud Storage protection plan subscription, but you can use the device without getting that. Video and audio quality were similar to what I'm familiar with from my current security system devices. Color night vision was average. I didn't notice any real delay or lag, which is important when it comes to 'in the moment' security monitoring for your home. What I liked most about this lightbulb camera, was that it's unobtrusive. It mimics a real 'old school' lightbulb with its shape, and gives off a decent amount of light to see by. If you are going to use it outdoors, however, do remember to make sure it's mounted underneath an overhang or beneath a ceiling or inside a glass "housing" (with an opening for the camera to operate). You even have the choice of the lightbulb's orientation; install it upright or hanging down in a standard light socket. I'm going to give this Lorex Smart Lightbulb Camera a fair try (over a decent length of time to show how it will work out for the best), at both my front entrance and back patio; our home's two points of entry. As of now, we're going to be using this lightbulb camera as a supplementary device to go along with the security system we already have.

I was intrigued by the design and was looking forward to installing this as a light and security camera in one location without having to drill more holes in the siding of the house. I will be honest the installation instructions were pretty minimal and not overly clear to get started. I was installing this in an overhead porch light so the camera would be point down to the ground. There some audible prompts form the device when you connect it to power and you will follow along in the app. My main issue initially was the recessed light was very deep and there is a tiny qr code on the light itself you need to scan. I had a heck of a time scanning it while it was connected to the socket. But once I could get it scanned the set up in the app was super quick and easy. The controls within the app are intuitive and make sense. I could quickly see the images from the camera and control the camera from the app. This was nice to get it positioned just as I wanted it. Image quality is fine, nothing spectacular. It is nice for me to be able to monitor the entrance of my home especially with deliveries being left on the door step now. My only issue is that the camera only works when the power is ON to the socket. I suppose that makes sense but in order to have this light ON, I l also have to have my front garage lights on…. And I do not want my lights on 24 hrs a day. So this is not going to work for me in an outdoor setting since this area where I wanted it is connected to other lights and all have to be on for the camera to work.

This smart video camera is great 2K quality and the setup, as with most smart devices these days, is through a QR code that comes in the packaging. You will definitely want to download the Lorex app. It looks large but I assume that is because it has a camera and a speaker as it allows for two way communication. The other major plus is the app, Most of these gadgets come with an app these days and this one with Lorex was refreshingly sleek. You can see the live feed, communicate two way through the app and the light bulb speaker, you can sound the alarm if you see something sketchy; not to mention you can control the display settings and where the camera is pointing to. ALso be aware that this bulb is NOT connected to a cloud. You will need to use a microSD card with it. I would prefer a cloud because its easier than having to keep track of an SD card and its data load, and thankfully you have the option to utilize cloud storage with this bulb camera. Also it has night vision of course! Right around 20 feet or so for me before people and things just get too difficult to make out. Works great with Alexa! But I have heard from friends that it is not compatible with Apple Home systems. Overall, a decent cordless camera system --- if this is what you're looking for.
