I wanted wired video doorbell with no subscription fee attached to it. This bell has a wide range of motion. The color is good and night vision is good. It alerts when someone is near the house immediately. Lorex has its own cell app you can install on your phone to monitor from anywhere. There are other great features to the bell like audio, siren, etc. you can read on line. Installation is easy and Lorex Technical Support is available to call if needed. They are Canadian based company. I am happy with this product and recommend it. A technician friend of mine who came to the house saw it and liked it himself is now wanting to get one.

I purchased this to replace my Lorex LNWDB1 1080p doorbell cam as I was never happy with its video quality. As soon as I saw this item released, I immediately purchased it from Best Buy and received it directly from Lorex within 5 business days. Installation was much faster (15 mins) and easier then the previous model due to only 2 mounting screws instead of 3, included wire extensions, and no locking screw on unit bottom to name a few.
Once installed, adding the 2K cam to my Lorex app for remote viewing was done by simply scanning the QR code sticker inside the box, creating a password and connecting to my home WiFi network. In addition, I have a Lorex Fusion series 4K NVR system and I was able to auto detect and add this 2K doorbell camera with ease.
The 2K units video quality is crystal clear compared to the previous 1080p units “blocky” video output, and the new viewing angle is much wider. Video and audio response is much faster, I believe this is due to the fact that it can connect to my 5Ghz WiFi; the previous unit was only compatible with 2.4Ghz WiFi. My electronic home doorbell rings completely again where as it used to cut off mid-chime with the older unit for some reason. If you currently have the Lorex 1080p doorbell cam I highly recommend upgrading to the 2K doorbell cam. If you are purchasing a Lorex doorbell cam for the first time and are comparing the two models don’t waste your time with the LNWDB1, go straight for the 2K unit!

well rounded doorbell with many features

one of the best things about this visually is how subtle it is. Many other smart doorbells are large and klunky and stand out. This one is clean and fairly small.
App setup is very simple and straight forward. Once you sign up for an account, its just a matter of scanning the doorbell QR code.
I have a mechanical doorbell and so that setup was easy as well, just add a couple wires to the existing setup and then mount the new module to your existing bell
Installation of the door bell is very easy, just remove two wires from the old bell and install on the new one. The only potential issue is dependent on the surface you're mounting to. In my case i have vinyl siding. it would have been easier if you could adjust the orientation 90 degrees within the app but i could not figure out how to much less if it was even possible. Because of this i had to a board to the house then the bell to that. I plan to use a router on the board to make it look presentable and then paint it when i get a chance. not being able to change doorbell orientation is my only negative and reason for dinging a star.
The picture is very crisp and clear. I've attached daytime, night time with no porch lights and night time with porch lights on. all good quality.
The nightlight is nice, especially if its not mounted near a porch light. I do have a porch light so i opted to turn it off. I also disabled the status light ring around the door bell button itself (red blue green) i don't want to bring extra attention to it at night.
The quick responses are great for when you're in the middle of something and someone shows up. I'd prefer if it let you record your own sound bite to make it more personable but the voice it provides isn't bad.
So far I've had 35 alerts trigger and record and I've only used 1GB of the included 32GB microSD card, so depending on how busy your door is, you can go a fair bit before the card fills up, could probably get a larger card if needed.
I like that there's no online subscription service and everything is local but i can still pull pictures/video down to my phone. Makes things real convenient and a no brainer as far as which brand of camera to get.

About the Lorex 2K Wired Video Doorbell
The Lorex Video Doorbell is advertised as a high image quality video doorbell system without monthly subscription costs. It gets its power from your existing doorbell equipment, and uses the existing chime to announce your guests. It has an app for your phone to also get alerts and control the doorbell settings. I personally have had two other video doorbell systems, and wanted to give this one a try since I have the Lorex 4K DVR camera package.
Features
There are lots of features for this camera, so I’ll list a few of the features I think are important or unique for this type of product.
• No Monthly subscriptions
• 2K video recording resolution
• Event alert recording with person detection
• Memory card video storage
• Video and picture capture options
• Power option with USB
• Angled Door Mounts
• Nightlight
Appearance
This does not have an award-winning design in my opinion. It’s very large, bright white, and really sticks out. It’s blocky, and does not have a sleek design appeal. It stands out when approaching my front door.
Lights – This uses 3 different color indicator lights. The doorbell button lights up and spins when anything triggers it. It also turns on the nightlight underneath the doorbell. It’s a bit much (I can see it from my driveway or the sidewalk telling me that it’s recording my motion). The nightlight is a bright white color. Luckily, some of these lights are controllable from the app.
Mounts – The doorbell comes with 3 styles of mounts; flat, angled horizontally, angled vertically. I thought that this was a really good idea because it can help point the camera in the direction it needs to go. In my case the original doorbell was positioned next to a brick wall. I am using the horizontal angle to point it 15 degrees away from that wall. Most other companies don’t supply the directional mounts as a standard part of their doorbells.
Installation
Installation for me was a huge pain. I had all of the components required for the addition of the video doorbell. Unfortunately, the video doorbell did not like one of them. Long story short, it was my electronic door chime. I had to purchase another door chime for this product to work. This isn’t uncommon for video doorbells, but it was hard to troubleshoot it down to the problem. Even Geek Squad couldn’t figure it out on multiple attempts. If you run into trouble installing this video doorbell, I recommend that you make sure that the transformer is 16V to 24V and that you use a mechanical chime.
Tech support wasn’t extremely helpful. They asked me to get voltage numbers at the chime, transformer, and doorbell. When I sent the numbers in, they could tell that it was the chime. When I asked what chime models worked, they said that they didn’t have any confirmed model numbers or brands to share with me.
Another installation issue is that the mechanical chime requires the use of the chime kit. Compared to the other video doorbells I have had, this is the largest chime kit of all of them. It was problematic to switch to the mechanical chime which didn’t have any spare room inside the box, therefore I didn’t have any place to put this big chime kit. I ended up having to mount the chime kit behind the chime inside the wall. Otherwise, I’d have to mount it outside the door chime which would be visible to everyone.
Video
Video Recording – This gives you an option for live views and event recordings. This does not record 24/7. The person detection seemed accurate. Its factory setting was sensitive enough that it recorded every car driving by. I didn’t mind this, but it could be adjusted if you do not want that level of sensitivity.
Video Quality – The highest quality is clear. Night recording is also clear. Unfortunately, the video does look fish-eyed.
Reviewing the Video Footage – This part was awful. I tried to use the timeline feature, and it jumped to the beginning recorded footage no matter where I moved the timeline to.
I went to the thumbnail clips of each event. Every thumbnail had the same generic stock image so I couldn’t tell which one I needed to select to find the footage I wanted to go back to. This is a very basic concept that was poorly executed.
Other Notes
App Ring Alert – The ringer in the app is the most annoying ring for any doorbell that I have ever heard. Not only is the sound bad, but it repeats constantly until you open the app to stop it.
Quick Response Feature – There are some prerecorded and customizable messages that can be played when someone rings the doorbell. I did not find these very useful.
Subscriptions – This doorbell does not require a subscription like most of the other doorbells. This is probably the best benefit of this product. It records straight to an internal memory card so it’s all built into the doorbell.
App - This product uses the Lorex Home app. My other Lorex cameras use the Lorex Cloud app. I have 2 apps using the same manufacturer’s products.
I’m giving the Lorex 2K Wired Video Doorbell 2 stars. Not having a subscription fee and the inclusion of the extra mounts are fantastic. The doorbell falls short when it comes to style, the lack of 24/7 recording, and its functionality. The video playback is extremely difficult to use, and the ring alert will turn heads (not in a good way).

With so many doorbell cameras out there is hard to choose one that fits your needs and for the right price. This Lorex video doorbell actually check ✅ a lot of boxes compared to other major brands and at a lower price point. Me coming from a ring pro I am really impressed with the video quality. I'll go as far to say the video quality looks better than the ring pro even the night vision quality. The installation was a freeze. What took me a minute was the setup using the app. In the package you get all the necessary accessories to complete the installation.
Besides the good video quality this doorbell camera has a lot of other features including HDR recording. In the settings you can adjust motion zones including a zone section for people. You can adjust the video quality, change the button light color, adjust the path lighting, pre-record messages, and even activate a siren. Another plus feature is the ability to record on local storage meaning you don't need to pay for monthly cloud services. The camera has an SD card slot that can support up to 256GB, included in the package you get a 32GB SD card.
The speaker for the 2 way talk on this video doorbell is pretty good too. It is loud and sounds better than my previous doorbell. Another thing I like is when someone rings the bell you receive a notification, your phone will ring and it will show like a phone call where you can either accept or reject or send a pre-recorded message. On top of those other features I mentioned this also works with either Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. I have multiple Google nest screens and I love how it works with it. I just wished that when someone rings the bell it shows on the screen automatically like it does with the native google doorbell.
Overall this a great video doorbell with a lot of features, great video quality, sound and at a reasonable price point and let’s not forget no monthly fees for cloud storage. In the box you get the video doorbell, 32GB SDcard, mounting base, mounting wedges, chime kit, mounting kit and wiring, and manuals in multiple languages.
Pros:
Video Quality
Night Vision
Loud Speaker
Local Storage
Privacy Mode
Path/Warning Light
Siren
Easy to install
Compatible with Google and Alexa
Built Quality

Best doorbell camera on the market

Having owned multiple Lorex security camera systems, I was excited to get this new doorbell camera. They continuously update their applications and firmware and I have not experienced and hardware issues. The first Lorex camera system I installed has been working for over 3 years without any issues whatsoever. Lorex has not disappointed with this new doorbell camera. It is very easy to install, has good quality recording, and has all the features necessary for a doorbell camera. This unit does require a hardwire (which I prefer), but they built in a USB port which allows you to troubleshoot indoors. Lorex also doesn’t require any ridiculous subscription fees since it has local storage. Overall, I highly recommend this doorbell camera over most of the options available on the market today.
Design: As seen in the pictures, this is a medium sized doorbell camera. Overall, it lacks a clean and high-end look, but it is not an eyesore, either. It’s fairly compact but has good weight on it. The unit has a large and easy to identify lighted doorbell button. I prefer the rectangular shape which helps is blend into the wall and make it less noticeable from afar.
Installation: Extremely quick and simple. Lorex include extra cables, mounting plates, and even a drill bit to make the installation process seamless and quick. The mounting plates allow you to angle to camera more appropriately, but I do wish these manufacturers would start including right angle mounting options. All you need to do is power off your current doorbell, take it off the wall, run the wire through the mounting plate, mount the plate, attach the doorbell camera, and flip the power on. This can be done in 20 minutes. The process to download the app and have the camera connected was impressively easy and took me less than 10 minutes. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the installation process of this doorbell camera.
Function/Use: The doorbell camera has a built LED light which is far brighter than expected and a huge bonus. The motion detector is pretty sensitive off the bat, so adjustments would probably needed to be made based on personal preference. I never had any issues with the camera detecting motion and the automatic LED light is a great added benefit. Once someone rings the doorbell, I receive a notification on my phone almost instantaneously on and off WiFi. Usually there is an initial degraded picture quality while it buffers. The recorded picture quality has been impressive and the wide angle view really picks up a large area. You can’t really make out faces well until they are within ~8feet or so of the camera based on lighting. Unfortunately, I don’t have control of my outdoor light but with decent outdoor lighting, the nighttime capabilities of the camera are impressive. I suggest having some lighting at your doorstep since this camera performs very well with just a little help at night. Overall, I am happy with the day and night video quality and believe it’s as good and better than competitors’ products.
App/Audio: The app is super easy to use and allows you to customize the functionality of the device. The app did not crash and it was very easy to access live and recorded videos. You can also easily manage other Lorex devices. Again, I was impressed with the level of thought and sophistication Lorex has put in here. The audio interface was clear and extremely easy to use. No breaks in connections or difficulty hearing. The best part was that you can use pre-recorded messages. That way, you don’t have to worry about answering right away or at all.
Overall/TL;DR: This is an impressive doorbell camera. Lorex has made a quality product with no added fees. This doorbell camera is among the best I have seen and I would highly recommend this as a first choice device.

This is a great video doorbell.
Set up was easy as far as the app goes. The Lorex Home app and it walks you through all the set up.
You simply scan a smart code to link to your camera. Then you need to find your power source for your doorbell. I was unsure where that was personally, but found it first try. My indoor chime is located in the hallway, so I simply shut off my hallway breaker…bingo that was it.
They will explain how to find your breaker by locating the transformer. My transformer was actually located inside the electrical box behind the chime on the wall. Lots of other online videos to help you with this if needed.
Once I powered down the breaker the rest was pretty simple, just take your time.
The app contains three tabs; Devices, Events and Settings.
Device tab – You can click on the camera thumbnail to view live, or press the 3 dots in upper right to go into the settings where you can set notifications, motion detection (sensitivity, zones etc), Video , Sound, Night vision, Doorbell Quick responses, Object bounding box, chime etc. They really thought of everything.
Events Tab – View events per date captured.
Settings – Overall App settings such as Home & Away, My Devices, View Manual recording and snaps, test your Wi-Fi and set up for Alexa, Google Assistant and account settings.
Experience:
I have my detection set for push notifications which means a few seconds after activated you can a notification on your phone. You can click it to view live and even turn on the mic to talk to whoever is at the door. Works very well & Picture quality is great. The App is quick to launch to see your live video. Fastest I have experiences to date.
When someone rings the bell you get an electronic ring on your phone and a notification pop up that you can click on and interact.
I really like that the video shows the entire capture from even right before the motion (Person) was detected. I have other video cameras that do not start recoding until triggered, so you miss the first couple seconds.
I also noticed I do not get false triggers. I did set the video detection to ignore the road out front but am pleasantly surprised how well it actually works.
Here is what knocks the ball out of the park... is NO MONTHLY FEE. Your video is stored on a micro-SD (which comes installed).
I have been using for just over a week and have found no drawbacks whatsoever. Great product.
I highly recommend.

The Lorex home doorbell and camera is a comparable alternative to the more expensive competitors we were considering previously. It wasn't too much to install, the instructions were clear, and it performs as expected. Here are some easy to read pros and cons:
PROS
- Clear video imaging
- Accompanying app with notifications
- Affordable
CONS
- I get a notification for EVERYTHING even a walker by my house or a loose cat. I had to turn my regular notifications off
- I can't retrieve previous videos from other days (which is a main reason I got it) -- Maybe this is something I can get help with
- The doorbell will ring until I click the notification button (which is difficult when I don't have my phone near me)
Update: I found that I need to purchase an SD card separately if I want to be able to store footage, so remember that if you decide to purchase. Otherwise, this is a great option for home surveillance and monitoring. I plan to purchase more!

I love not having to spend extra on monthly fees. The LOREX video doorbell was easy to set up and quickly connected to my home Wi-Fi.
The video and audio quality are second to none. What a visual difference from my older video doorbell. I was able to set up the unit on my kitchen table thanks to the rear USB connector. With the included tilt angled mounting bracket, I am able to get the perfect view of my front door.
Quickly added as an additional device to my LOREX app and other security cameras.
I really like the option of 2.4 or 5 gHZ connectivity.
The built in microphone and speaker allows me to speak with those at the front door. The app allows me to turn on or off the bright built in LED light. Also capture a recording of the conversation for later playback. Large lit button is easy to see day or night. Great addition to anyone's home security. Perfect when you ore upstairs or down, or in the yard. Never miss a visitor again.
I absolutely recommend this LOREX video doorbell.

Upon receiving my Lorex 2K QHD Wired Video Doorbell I was immediately impressed with the comprehensive, included, contents package. As a replacement doorbell or even for a new install the Lorex folks carefully planned for every physical detail of installation.
Included with the Lorex 2K QHD Wire Video Doorbell:
- Lorex Doorbell
- Standard Mounting Bracket
- 5 Degree Vertical Bracket
-15 Degree Horizontal Bracket
- USB Cable
- 2 Multipurpose Anchors Masonry/Drywall
- 2 Screws
- 3 Small Wire Caps
- Electronic Chime Kit
- 2 Doorbell Existing Wire Extenders
- 1 15/64” Masonry Drill Bit
- Proprietary Release Pin
- Quick Start Guide
The physical install is pretty basic and in my opinion any DIY can complete the whole process in 30 to 45 minutes or less. The Lorex folks have done a great job outlining the installation procedures in their included Quick Start Guide. However, you can go to the install videos at their main website, and, or Lorex Home App for more detailed installation. Locating the circuit that powers your existing doorbell chime is very important. This circuit must be de-energized before connecting any of the wires to the new doorbell or electronic chime kit since the standard doorbell transformers have a 120 V power source. Risk of electrical damage to the transformer, and, or Lorex Doorbell can be avoided by shutting off the power to the existing mechanical or electronic door chimes. Once the Lorex Doorbell is installed at the front door, new electronic chime connected, if desired, the power can be turned back 'ON'.
So, what do I think is so great about this Lorex 2K QHD Wired Video Doorbell:
* 2K HDR VIDEO RESOLUTION – The 2,560-by-1,920-pixel resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio, excellent HDR color, even at night time, and the 164 degree field of view is just the kind of quality and feature I wanted from this Lorex unit. What I really love about this video is the 8 times digital zoom that I can display on my phone for for more expanded details. WooHoo!
* LOERX HOME APP – FREE and easy to download and install from the Apple App or Google Play stores. This app walked me through the installation and set up of my Lorex Doorbell. I had to establish an account, but there were NO Subscription Fees to use this App or any of it numerous features. There is an 'On-Board' 32 GB SD card, which can be upgraded to 256 GB if desired. For my purposes 32 GB should be more than enough. I customized my individualized Lorex Doorbell settings; Person Detection, Activate Status LED ON Detection, Night Light Mode, Shared Users, Doorbell Quick Responses, and Video Settings.
* PERSON/MOTION DETECTION – Sensitivity can be adjusted for the actual detection level desired and Person Detection can be customized for each unique situation. I love that I can actually determine the Person Detection Area using these little squares in the App. I can configure my Lorex to record video only when a person has been detected. The App also allows me to speak in real-time, two-way audio. I can video and record with whomever is at my front door. I can also program the Lorex to play a preset or quick response when the doorbell button is pressed. I can also activate an internal siren from the app if I want to scare off unwanted visitors or large uninvited creatures. How cool is that?
* LED ACTIVATION STATUS ON DETECTION - The Lorex 2K features a surprisingly bright LED nightlight that shines down from the bottom of the doorbell. This can be scheduled to turn on at a given time, or you can program it to light up—or even flash—when motion is detected.
* NIGHT LIGHT MODE - I can program the nite-lite to turn ON when motion is detected, or as a nite-lite feature; ON at a set time while it is dark, OFF at a set time during daylight.
* SHARED USERS – Using the Lorex App I can allow family or neighbors to view my Lorex Doorbell motion events, doorbell activation and stored videos. Be aware that each user you allow will have to register for a Lorex account.
* DOORBELL RESPONSES – Using the App I can select pre-recorded doorbell responses, or, even record my own personal messages. What I really like about this feature is that if I am not going to be home, and expecting certain relatives or visitors I can leave them a customized message with instructions. WoW!
* VIDEO SETTINGS – I can choose my own personal video settings. Default is 1080p, but I can change that to 2K, HDR using the App.
* SPEAKER QUALITY - The speaker of this Lorex is at the very bottom of this unit and not readily visible. Sounds are crisp, clear, and good quality.
* NO SUBSCRIPTION FEES – Probably the best feature of this Lorex 2K QHD Wired Video Doorbell besides its outstanding performance is I do NOT have to pay monthly subscription fees like so many other video doorbell manufacturers require. YooHoo!
I highly recommend this Lorex 2K QHD Wired Video Doorbell for additional home security. It is cost effective for all the numerous features it offers. The motion response to my phone was fantastic over my home Wi-Fi Router and Cellular Network. I love it.

With an existing Lorex system, this is a great addition. Was looking for a video doorbell that did not have monthly fees to use cloud storage, and Lorex wifi cameras, use a on board micro sd card, and does not use cloud services. That was the selling point when purchasing Lorex wifi cameras. This doorbell is a great addition if you have an existing Lorex System, or just using this alone. Earlier Lorex did come out with a 1080p doorbell camera but do not recommend. I did not want a doorbell until Lorex upgraded their current one and they did. With 2k resolution, you can see very clearly day or night. No problems picking up movement or person detection. With the Lorex Home app, you can customize the features and operation of the camera. Simple and easy. Almost immediately when someone pushes the doorbell button, you get a notification from the Lorex Home app, and you can see the live view and use two-way talk. It will ring like a phone call and you can choose to answer, or decline. The doorbell button is customizable to have the status LED (green) on or off. in this case, I have it switched on. You can customize the button light to flash Blue, or Red, when it detects movement, or turn that feature off. When you push the button, the light will make a circular motion, and you will hear a doorbell chime sound on the doorbell. What's a neat and cool feature is the night light. You can customize it so it come on when it detects a person, and you can program a schedule for the light to stay on during the night if you wish. It does look pretty cool at night. I don't think other doorbells do that. Being my first video doorbell, this is quite impressive. Lorex did much improve this and looks like it is selling really well. If you are looking for a video doorbell and don't want to pay for monthly cloud service, then give this a try.

We upgraded to this doorbell from the nest hello as this doorbell is higher quality footage and we also have a lorex security camera system for the rest of our house. The quality of the footage on this is much better, and the night vision is miles ahead of the nest. Perhaps the best part is that we do not have to pay a monthly fee to access recored footage. The doorbell utilizes a micro sd card internally that can be expanded up to 256gb. I believe the one included is 32gb and that has been fine. It will record over the oldest footage automatically unless you chooses to swap it out to save long term. I can view live, review any point in the recorded history, as well as click straight to motion detected periods. You can talk through the doorbell to people if you are not home (though im not sure why you'd want to tell a stranger that you're not at home, so its the perfect time to rob you, lol. I suppose it could be nice if you are expecting family or friends and are not home quite yet.) There is also a siren you can turn on if there are people there that should not be. Enough to scare some michevious people away by drawing attention to them. The only downfall is that the storage is local within the doorbell. Since we also have the lorex camera system with a dvr, it would be nice to be able to integrate the storage into the same dvr. However, its not a huge deal. Everything is accessible in the app and all of our cameras are accesible from the same app. If you purchase from lorex direct, they do have the option for a package that includes the doorbell and cameras all with storage to the same dvr. You just cannot add the doorbell to an existing dvr. Kinda silly, but like I said, not a huge deal. Overall we are satisfied with this product and it works very well for us.

I was a bit intimidated initially when I opened the box but fortunately my husband was confident that he could install it, and he successfully did. He said it wasn’t hard at all. There is also a YouTube video I had my husband watch that shows step by step how to install it, that is by the official company (Lorex Technology). We’ve been using it for about a week. The picture quality is quite good, both in daylight and nighttime, but I feel that it means it will probably fill up the included 32GB microSD card pretty fast, so I’m already thinking of buying a higher storage tier—it can take up to a 256GB microSD card, which I’m perfectly willing to shell out more money for, because it’s a one-time expense. The single most best, BEST aspect of this doorbell cam that puts it head and shoulders above others that I’ve come across or read about is the fact that there are absolutely no hidden recurring fees since all video info is stored locally on the microSD card (which is also great for privacy issues). The compatible app to download is free to use and works seamlessly with the doorbell cam, alerting you instantly when someone is at the door with a clear image. The accuracy of the person detection feature is also pretty good—I had my kids test it out multiple times by approaching our front door from different angles. There is a feature that allows you to respond with a message to whomever rings the doorbell, or to even converse with them whether you’re home or not. I really like the nightlight feature, too—a light that shines from the bottom of the doorbell device.
Definite recommend.

UNBOXING, SETUP, AND INITIAL IMPRESSIONS:
Packaging is simple, laid out in well-organized manner…and, while somewhat environmentally-friendly, NOT as environmentally-friendly as it could have been, or as other manufacturers are doing. For starters, the doorbell was in a plastic bag, which is doesn’t need to be…it could have just had a protective plastic layer on the front. Beyond that, every individual item type (except for the ChimeKit) was in its own separate plastic bag. Talk about a waste of plastic bags, and VERY environmentally-UNFRIENDLY. At least they could have grouped the included “accessories” into (far) fewer plastic bags. Even better, all included accessories could have been placed into as few as 1-2 bags.
Thankfully, setup is much better than their packaging job. For those already having Lorex products utilizing the Lorex Home app, you’re already a few steps ahead…for everyone else, you need to download/install ‘Lorex Home’ onto your mobile device, as that’s what you’ll not only use for remote viewing, but also for getting everything set up. I’m not going to walk people reading this through the entire process…but, I will mention that, for those with mechanical chimes, installation will involve a few additional (but quick & simple) steps, which WILL need to be done AFTER removing the old doorbell, but BEFORE installing the Lorex doorbell…but, before you do any of that, you have to “connect” the doorbell to the app.
To do that, you have to (temporarily) power the doorbell via the microUSB port on the back (note: there is also a microSD, which records video, should there be any problems with accessing video via the app, or your computer). I’m not going to bother providing detailed info here, as the app will walk you through every set-up step. I will, however, cover more in the “LOREX HOME APP” section, below. Once the doorbell has been ‘connected’ to the app, you can move onto the physical installation. In installing the doorbell, one thing I immediately liked was the inclusion of a vertical angled bracket. Some video doorbells only include the ‘base’ flat bracket, while others also include an angled left/right bracket. Lorex has one-upped them all by also including an up/down (5 degrees) angled bracket. Physically connecting the doorbell is as simple as connecting a standard doorbell…two wires, and it’s done. For those with in-wall wiring that’s a bit short, Lorex has you covered – they’ve included an optional extension.
LOREX HOME APP & IMAGE/AUDIO QUALITY:
Getting back to the app…once the doorbell is installed, and you’ve turned the power back on (yes, you NEED to turn power off before starting), you’re ready to customize settings. In customizing the settings, Lorex has broken things up into six “categories” – Person Detection, Status LED, Night Light Mode, Shared Users, Quick Responses, & Video Settings. Each is self-explanatory. Some video doorbells (ex. the Ring doorbell installed at my mom’s house, and the Google Nest Hello doorbell installed at my dad’s) have a 16:9 ratio, which is fine for a TV screen…but, not so appealing for viewing a video doorbell image. Thankfully, Lorex understands this – the Lorex video doorbell presents a less-nauseating 4:3 format. Being a 2K camera (as opposed to the 1080p most others use), images are crisp & clear. With HDR, you also get more uniformity in lighting (although, I will admit, colors can sometimes be slightly exaggerated). In all honesty, I would have probably preferred better automated lighting control over HDR, but HDR is the latest ‘craze’, and everyone seems to be “jumping onboard”. At the same time, I REALLY like the mechanical filter. The built-in light sensor determines when its “day”, or “night”, and moves the filter into, or out-of, place as needed. If you decide to test this for yourself (using a flashlight at night, or your hands during the day), you can actually hear an audible ‘click’ as the filter moves in/out of place. Lastly, I’ll mention the color night vision, which is a considerable improvement over the B&W of some other video doorbell’s night vision. Yes, there are others with color night vision, and the technology in Lorex’s is just as good as the others.
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:
First, and foremost, for those with a Lorex Home Center Security Camera System, compatibility IS coming soon. I don’t know what the holdup is, but the doorbell will soon be accessible/viewable through the Lorex Home Center. As for the doorbell, itself, in order to use it, your pre-installed doorbell wiring must provide 16-24V. If your wiring is above/below that range, you have two options. The first is to have an electrician install a 16-24 VAC doorbell transformer. The second would be to permanently power the doorbell via the microUSB port. However, understand that, in doing, you would need a 2A USB power adapter…and know, in advance, that doing so will eliminate the ability to use the ChimeKit. Essentially, that means that those with mechanical chimes can NOT go this route, as the ChimeKit REQUIRES the signal to come through the standard doorbell wiring. Finally, as I mentioned, above, the doorbell will soon be compatible with the Lorex Home Center. For those with other Lorex security camera systems, according to Lorex, it is NOT compatible with any ONVIF security camera DVRs/NVRs…however, it IS compatible with their “Fusion” NVRs (ie. N841, N842, N861, & N862).
FINAL VERDICT:
A LOT of people have been replacing their “old fashioned” doorbells with video doorbells…and, in this age where people stealing packages is constantly increasing, video doorbells are slowly moving from ‘luxury’ status, to a must-have item. While they cost considerably more than a standard doorbell, not only can they play a considerable part in the recovery of stolen packages, but they have many other uses – seeing exactly who is at your front door (so you can decide whether, or not, to open the door), being able to remotely “answer” the door (giving the impression that you’re home, even when you’re not), having recorded proof if someone breaks into your (or your neighbor’s) house, etc. the point is, video doorbells are no longer a “purchase on a whim” item. Like the cell phone, they have reached the point of “everyday life”.
The hardest part for many isn’t in deciding whether, or not, to get a video doorbell, but in deciding which video doorbell to get. The “downfall” of many is the monthly/annual ‘fee’ to access recorded video. Some companies (I won’t name them, but one is known by their “smile” logo) started with free access, knowing that they were going to start charging people at some point. With Lorex, when they say “no additional costs”, it’s pretty safe to say they will stick to this model. Where many are still using 1080p (or lower) resolution camera sensors, Lorex has this fantastic 2K camera. While certain other video doorbells have “ok” (or worse) audio, the Lorex 2K Video Doorbell has excellent audio quality. These two points should help making the “which” decision much easier. Am I saying that the Lorex 2K Video Doorbell is the “only” video doorbell with excellent video & audio quality? No. am I saying the Lorex is the only video doorbell manufacturer to have “no additional cost”? No. but, Lorex HAS been around for a longer time than almost all these other companies, they have built their reputation on producing quality products, and having excellent customer/tech support. Finally, Lorex is a VERY well-known name in the security camera system, and a company you can be (fairly) certain will still be around for long time. So, what this all boils down to is this – Would I recommend the Lorex 2K Video Doorbell? In short, ur darn tootin’ I would.

Installation is easy. The box contains everything you need, including wiring harness, wire extensions, screws, screw anchors (if needed), and a drill bit if you’re doing a masonry installation. Mine was mounted on brickmould, so screws were all that was necessary and installation was accomplished in under half an hour. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. My Installation included wiring the chime kit into the mechanical doorbell (the chimes hanging in the hall), installation of the video doorbell (the button visitors press at the front door to ring the doorbell), and registering and connecting to the Lorex Home app. Instructions are also included for existing electronic chimes.
The unit has full functionality right out of the box. There are no features that are only activated with a subscription or kept behind some other type of paywall, and I really love the fact that there is no monthly fee required.
All video storage is done locally. Video quality can be selected from three options within the app: 480p, 1080p, and 2x1080p. I really appreciate the added detail of the 2x1080p. Videos are stored to an included 32GB MicroSD. Video quality is generally very good. In daylight, image quality is detailed and colors are accurate. In low light, the camera switches to an auto night vision mode; it’s grayscale, but images are still clear and details easily discernable. Also, you can disable auto night vision which forces the camera into color mode; the app indicates that is the recommended setting for low-light conditions. The Lorex Home app allows the user to zoom in and out using familiar pinch-to-zoom controls. It also includes tools to capture both stills and videos, which are stored in your phone’s photo directory. From there, you can send/share them as you would any other photo or video.
The unit allows setting up user-defined motion zones. There are separate settings for general motion and for person motion, and that distinction really cuts down on unnecessary notifications. When someone enters the “person motion” detection zone, notifications are prompt and accurate. If a squirrel walks through the “motion zone,” video is recorded on the unit, but no notification is sent. This is a huge improvement over our previous video doorbell; no more middle of the night “ding-dong” because a cat’s out for a midnight stroll.
I like being able to activate the camera and see what’s going on outside anytime, day or night.
When somebody rings the doorbell, opening the app activates the camera and allows you to see who is there. You can choose to cancel the notification (ignore it), go answer the door, converse via the app, or use one of the convenient quick responses. There are pre-defined quick responses that play a pleasant female-sounding computer voice on your doorbell indicating, “We’ll be right there,” or “Please leave the package at the door,” or “Nobody can come to the door right now.” You can also record your own quick responses. There are obvious security benefits of being able to have a live conversation with someone at my door, even if I’m at the office.
The doorbell includes a downward pointed nightlight that illuminates the area immediately below the doorbell and for a few feet in front of the door. I like it because it is a bright, obvious indication that whoever is approaching has been detected, so hopefully it would be a deterrent to someone up to no good. Also, it lights up the steps when it is dark so that welcome guests have an easier time safely approaching the door. The app also allows setting a nightlight mode that keeps the light on between certain times. I prefer the deterrence effect of lighting when approached.
The Lorex Wired 2K Video Doorbell is an easy to use, welcome addition and upgrade to our home security.

Works well. Easy to install. I purchased Lorex because I already had their cameras. This was a nice addition.
