    Decent Quality But Bad Features

I have a few surveillance cameras on the outside of my house but all show one view without letting me control the cameras remotely. Once someone broke into my neighbor's car who lives opposite me but I couldn't read the license plate of the thief's car. I thought that with this Lorex Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera I would be able to put this up against the front window and be able to zoom in on whatever I need to see. The description on this site calls it a pan/tilt/zoom camera but it doesn't zoom. When I just checked the info on the Lorex site it's described as a pan/tilt camera with no mention of zoom. The only way to zoom the image is to pinch out the image on the phone screen and when you do that, the 1080p image doesn't have a high enough resolution to show detail like a license plate. Controlling the camera is just like controlling an old iPod using a directional click wheel (on the screen) rather than just touching the image and moving the camera from left to right. That could be changed in a future update. I would like to have an iPad app so I could see a larger picture or in case my iPhone isn't handy. The iPad uses an iPhone app and upscales it which doesn't help for clarity. When I log into the iPad's app, it logs me out of the iPhone's app. In addition, there is no web based version of the software so if my iPhone or iPad aren't around, I can't just log into my account like I can with my other cameras. As I mentioned, I placed the camera on the window sill aiming it toward my front lawn so I can see when someone is in front using the camera's motion alerts. On occasion, it will see and follow a person or a car driving past but most of the time it detects the venetian blinds behind it moving due to the air conditioner blowing on the blinds and it turns 180 degrees behind it and sits and watches the blinds rather than looking out on the street. I've adjusted the motion zones and the motion sensitivity but it likes those blinds. There is a lock icon on the screen which I thought would lock the camera but it doesn't seem to do anything. The camera comes with the ability to mount it upside down and even comes with a mounting bracket and template to mount it correctly. Of course it comes with a power cable and USB power adapter. I'll keep trying to adjust the settings to stop watching the blinds and if I can't get it to work properly, I'll have to use it to watch the back yard instead.

    Motion activated Squirrel Cam!

Even though this is listed as an indoor security camera, my patio is well covered so I set my camera at a good angle for it to detect a family of visiting squirrels. It *mostly* does a good job at capturing them, as I set the motion sensitivity up pretty high. There is also a beta people tracker, in which the camera would center to the person moving. This also works well with squirrels! Unfortunately, the squirrels are very scared of the camera movement (or any movement or loud sounds), so I turned it off, but liked how it worked, on such a small body. Now, first issue - creating the account in app was a bit off an annoyance as the app did not link up to Apple’s iCloud Passkey, so for Apple users, I would recommend creating a user directly from the Lorex website, if you use iCloud Passkey. This might seem like a minor annoyance, but here is the thing: if it doesn’t connect to a system that can suggest a secure password for you, then your average user will manually come up with a password themselves, which is likely to be a re-used password. That is dangerous to have access to a video feed inside your home (or patio for me). The first time I tried to reset the password, it took 20 hours to get the password reset email code. The 2nd time (a week later) I requested the password reset, it came quickly. A much bigger problem that occurs every few days: I get alerts that tell me “Device Storage Corrupted” and whatever was recorded at that time is gone. It currently has the included mini-SD card it came with, I will replace that later - but every 2-3 days I will get this corruption alert. I do wish there was a way to extend recording - as in my particular situation, the squirrels will not move very much as they are eating, so the camera stops recording and won’t start again until they jump off or come back on the table. Again, I’m very specifically using this for small animals, so it is most likely excellent at detecting humans indoors! With that said, it would be nice to have an option to say extend recording 1 min after it thinks there is no one there. Another issue I experienced (which was corrected with a reboot of the camera) was it stopped sensing things. Once I rebooted, it immediately started to pick up movements again, so not sure what that is about. That has occurred twice now in 2 weeks. Overall, I think this works out well for me - it is completely different than the *intended* use, but hey, a lot of us are at home these days and having a motion activated camera alert you when a squirrel is eating the walnuts/seeds left out for them, is just a wonderful thing to enjoy! Especially since the camera records sound so in addition to the light chewing, I can also hear the birds in the feeder next door chirping & singing. It’s like watching your own personal nature show on your TV/phone/tablet!

I have been using this camera for over a week now. First as an indoor camera and later as a camera sitting on window looking at my front door. Here are my observations, Good video quality, local storage, not weather proof. So if you are planning to put it outside make sure the area is protected from elements. Person detection is top notch. Every delivery person, postwoman, guests and others passing by our house are detected correctly. You can set motion tracking zones, initially it was recording the cars on road but since I restricted the zones to near the house, I have not received any notification for cars. Notification of motion detected on phone is near instant. I mean there is a minor gap of 2-3 seconds, but that is acceptable. Night vision is average, the area it records is not pitch dark due to some street light but the quality is not very good. On the other hand I also have Logi Circle 2, whose night mode seems to be a lot clearer than Lorex but that does cost almost 4 times more. I have turned off sound detection as it kept on bugging me, I have set it at 90 db which is the highest setting. My son flute trip it, which is understandable but my wife making phone calls also triggers it. I can not change the sound pitch of my wife, so I request Lorex to include higher options (100+ db) for fine tuning to different needs. Only Lorex can comment on if this is possible (depending on the mic they have used). The app works fine, the connection is very fast, it keeps a log of all motion related events. There is also a setting called "General Record Storage", setting it up you can define a schedule to record continuously for a specific time and day (limited by memory on card after which it will overwrite). This is a very sought after feature, as not many cameras provide it. Not may cameras provide local storage which may as well be the reason about not giving it. Kudos to Lorex for including it. The app does not let me login from two phones, I have to create my wife's account and than share the device with her so that we both can check the front door. This is a big con, thought not with the camera but with the app. Every body has multiple devices now days so the restriction does not make any sense to me. Perhaps Lorex can work on it. I did not use the Smart Track feature though I did control the movement via app and that worked fine. Auto Night Vision : I have turned it off as it turns on the white LED and as my camera is against the glass, camera catches its own reflection in that case. I have been researching a lot of cameras recently and reading about them, so this was a perfect time to test this one. It is currently on Sale for $55 + tax on Bestbuy. I will say that it is a lot of tech in a camera for that money. 5 stars for camera/$, 4 for the App.

Overall, I found this camera to be adequate for its price and quality. It's quite user friendly and easy to set up. I think my favorite feature is "two-way talk" where you can talk to who is on your camera and you can also hear what they're saying. The range of view is perfect and much better than I was expecting. Picture quality is fantastic at 1080p, no one wants grainy video feed! The night vision works pretty good too with a range of about 30ft. The camera comes with a 16gb SD card which I didn't find to be enough so I would recommend buying something larger (it says it supports up to 256gb but I've read it can go higher) The Lorex Home app functionality was pretty user friendly. I can access it from my ipad or my iphone, but I wish I were able to access it from my desk top when it's more convenient for me. There are so many little detailed settings you can play around with on this camera. I really like the setting where you can set it to record at certain times. I did find it to lag a bit when moving the view of the camera. I find the power cord to be a bit of an eyesore unless you can place it somewhere that it can be hidden. This camera i feel works best if it were mounted on the ceiling, which I would want it to be hard wired into my house if I were to place it there. *It is an indoor camera**

I have had the Lorex Indoor Pan tilt and Zoom Wi-Fi network security camera for about a week now, It has some great features, but it has been a hit and miss on the connectivity and lag time. While testing it out, I equipped the person detect mode, to rule out any stray cats or dogs, and put it in the kitchen to catch those late night snackers in the act of pilfering thru the pantry. While it usually caught them in the act, the panning would lag and was easy to outmaneuver, it would catch up but by then I could have stolen something, and you would never know. There are a lot of great features to the camera, person detect, tilt and zoom are nice, it has Wi-Fi built in, but it also is a wired device so you can’t just throw it up on a shelf or hang it from the ceiling without planning it out. The HD video quality is great, but the night vision could use some work, but at the price point is serves its purpose.

I found this camera to be quite good and serviceable when it comes to keeping an eye on an indoor location. It was easy to set up and the app works very well to control the features and functions of the camera. I would highly recommend it.

I own other Wi-Fi security cameras that offer features well beyond what you will get here, which in turn drive up their overall cost. This camera is on the less expensive side, but has given up too many features to be of use the way most people would like. To begin with, the Wi-Fi connection of this camera is 2.4 ghz, meaning you cannot conmect it to a 5 ghz signal. It has an Ethernet port, but most folks would likely opt for the lower signal before fiddling with ethernet cables, especially if mounting this on the ceiling. Next, the device set-up through the app is a bit taxing. Why do we need two passwords and a username to access the camera, even if we can access through the fingerprint reader? Not a big deal, but it makes it easy to get confused if you ever need to access the device from anywhere other than your primary device. The phone app itself has lots of menu options and customization choices, so once your in, you can cater the device to do exactly as you like, however, none of the features are very responsive and at times seem down right sluggish. This includes the basic live viewing options, as there was a delay of severals seconds before the video caught up (highly noticeable since I own cameras that have a truly live feed). The most disappointing feature is that the camera is a corded Wi-Fi camera, meaning that it must be connected to its power supply at all times to function at all. Since it is designed to swivel while upside down for ceiling mounting (amd right side up too), its a bit baffling that it would be a wire-dependent camera, as this would require running a long cord up the wall, or drilling to conceal the cord in the wall, or some other inconvenient process to get a power cord connected to the device's average length cord. If you plan to mount this on a ceiling, be prepared to invest in cords, and/or ready to start a home improvement project to hide the cords. I think this was a missed opportunity, or perhaps just a lower line of this type of camera, but I could not recommend this to anyone who does not want to address the power supply issue or deal with the slow responsiveness of the operating system. I will likely place this in my office at work, since it could sit right side up and be placed next to an outlet (and since it does move in multie directions), but would nkt be able to use it at my home since my ceilings are vaulted with no outlets near the areas where I would place it. A wired camera is not all bad, especially if spacing and outlets permit it without too much trouble, but most will want the flexibility of wireless powering (be it batteries or corded quick charging) for more functional or discreet placement options. EVERYONE will want a more responsive operating system, which is why I would likely pass on this one if you have the budget to get a camera with a better operating system, cords aside. I was originally going to rate this 2 stars, but I'm giving it 3 since I may be spoiled from my WIRELESS Wi-Fi camera system.

This Lorex pan and tilt indoor security camera has a lot going for it. For the price it is very feature rich and the image quality is great. Setup was very simple using the Lorex app and I find the app to be intuitive and easy to use. There are a couple of negatives. First, you cannot watch the live or recorded video on a computer screen over the internet or local network. This seems to be standard procedure with a lot of these types of cameras, but I find that severely lacking. Second, and this may be my own network's fault, the camera seems to "go offline" after a period of inactivity, and I can't find a way to wake it back up without pulling the power cord and restarting. Again, this might be a network issue (wifi) but a fix wasn't obvious.

We use as a dog camera in our home. Works perfectly. Good quality images and reactive to motion. Can increase sensitivity to make the camera more reactive to motion. Would recommend.

I am really disappointed with the packaging of the product. The box did not have a user guide included. There are no setup instructions and the pictures outside the box also did not mention how to setup this product for use. I have had several indoor monitoring cameras including really cheap ones and all of them came with a user manual. With that experience, I went on downloading LOREX app on App Store. When I clicked on the Add device, it asks to scan a QR code which is very common with such cameras. I tried scanning the QR code and the camera was recognized. My mobile was connected to a 5ghz Wi-Fi network and the app said -“ connect mobile to Wi-Fi”. I understood that it could be a problem with the band and I changed it to 2ghz. I still saw the same message. I tried to run setup all over agin from the beginning and this message wouldn’t go away. I was fed up with the camera and I just packed the camera inside the box and kept it away. Couldn’t really set it up and start using. This is probably the first time I am seeing an electronic product Without a user manual. Not sure if the user manual is missing only in this box that I received. But overall, a poor experience. I would rate this 0 stars if there was an option.
