Lutron Caseta for the win

This is one of the best HomeKit compatible smart dimmers I have tested so far. It was very easy to install and works perfectly. The addition of the Pico remote makes this product even better. The only thing I wish was included is the pico wall mount, which I had to buy separately. It’s not expensive, it was just another trip to the store. If you are looking for a reliable smart dimmer to use with any smart home, I recommend this!

Lutron is one of the best and easiest “smart lighting” devices on the market. With the hub connected to your network you can control every light switch from your phone from anywhere in the world or automate them so they turn on at a certain time, or turn off at a certain time. This system will work with Alexa, google, and apple eco systems.

great starter kit for smart home lighting

Great starter kit for smart home lighting. Easy to use, easy to setup. The frequency it uses with the smart-bridge helps relieve the load on your wifi network, which can get overloaded with so many smart devices. Remote is useful, especially the big middle button to save your favorite dimmer setting. Install especially easy since you don't need neutral wiring - the wiring doesn't even seem concerned which wire is load/line either. Only downside is the price, but at least you'll save by being able to use normal dimmer lightbulbs instead of smart bulbs

integrates seamlessly well with Alexa. Easy to install. No neutral wire needed so fits right in with all homes new and old.( doesn't require a neutral wire) No need for expensive rewiring. getting the device up and running is as easy as holding a button down for 10 seconds. I love the ability to set schedules and place lights on a timer. Top rated reliable brand so I have the peace of mind of owning a solid product for a fair price. A bit more expensive than competition.

Quality at its finest! I have upgraded many of the switches in my home to smart switches. All of them had been TP-Link Kasa switches which I have been pleased with. I had one switch however in my dining room which didn’t have the necessary neurtal wire to use with the Kasa dimmer and was also to big for the old metal box. I had tried replacing this switch a few times over the years, but could never get a smart switch to work. That was until I found the Lutron Caseta switch! This switch did not require a neutral wire and was much smaller in size and fit into the box easily. Also the auto sensing line & load made setup a breeze. Once the switch was installed it took a few minutes to hook up the hub for use with Alexa. I think what made this switch even better is the wireless remote which can get mounted to the wall making it a 3-way switch! My wired switch is by the front door. So anytime i needed to turn on the light I had to walk through the dining room to turn the light on. Now I can mount the wireless remote at the opposite end of the dining so I can turn on the lights as I enter the room. The switch is pricey for a smart switch, but you can not beat the ease of setup and all the features it offers! I plan on buying more of these switches in the future.

Over the last couple of years I've been replacing many of our house light bulbs with Philips Hue smart light bulbs, and I've been mostly happy with them despite the high cost. Some rooms in my house have lights that are not compatible with smart bulbs, though, and I've struggled with what to do with those rooms.
My den is one of those rooms that I really wanted to be able to control by voice or remote control, but the room has a ceiling fan with small light bulb that doesn't have a smart version. So when I came across someone's post on the Internet about this Lutron Caseta wireless smart dimmer switch I was intrigued.
Even once I talked myself into buying this kit (I got it on sale), I didn't install it immediately because I was nervous about trying to install a light switch. I watched a couple of youtube videos to help build my confidence, and it really didn't look very hard, so I decided to give it a shot.
I was very careful, and I probably took a lot longer than I needed to because I wanted to make sure everything was right, but it has worked flawlessly!
I don't really use the remote control (I did make sure it works), but using this switch I can control my den's light through Alexa, exactly as I want. I installed it about 7 months ago and it's been perfect! No problems whatsoever. At some point, probably when I notice just the switch on sale (since I won't need another hub), I'll probably do the same for another room in the house that also has a fan with light that isn't compatible with smart bulbs. So yes, I'd buy again!

Installation was too easy. It looks good. Easily paired it with Alexa and with the additional remote. The hub was easily to set up too.
The remote saved me from wiring a three way switch. I don’t have to mess around with that. I bought the walk adapter online for cheap. I really like the preset button on the remote. I wish the main switch had that feature.
I highly recommend it.

These aren't cheap. And, they do require a hub (included in this kit). Hub is pretty tiny, smaller than my Philips Hue hub. Just a bit of dislike for all these hubs, although it seems to make the system very reliable.
Now, this switch is AWESOME. Much more effective (and cheaper) than getting smart bulbs everywhere that are somewhat inconsistent. Integrates great with Alexa control. Very happy. Only thing that I slightly don't like, is the slow ramp up/down of light when turn off or on. Some might find this cool, i kind of just wish the light went instant off.

We moved into an older home and I have been wanting to have the ability to turn on/off the lights in various rooms when we are not home or heading home. I researched tons of smart home products, even purchasing a few iDevice switches (very bulky and unable to fit into the older electrical boxes) because I did not want an additional hub device. We have long been in the Apple ecosystem, so we prefer items that are Homekit compatible. Why Homekit? Because the data isn't stored on the cloud, isn't sold, and must be encrypted per Apple standards. Using the Homekit app enables us to go through one app rather than 10.
The switches once installed and linked to the hub are incredibly easy to use as just normal dimmers with decently sized buttons so even grandma is happy. Setting preset dim levels is easy too, so most of the time it's a single touch on, single touch off - already better than 99% of non-smart dimmer switches out there. Pricey - yes - but you get what you pay for. We bought this starter set to get the hub, and then separate switches.
The hub is easy - we have it downstairs with our router and it feeds all of the switches in the house. It's quite small - a single Ethernet cable to the back of our router, and a small plug into the outlet.
The Lutron app is super simplistic, easy to use and has a great user interface. Setup via the app was unbelievably easy. There's one kill switch at the top of the app screen that will turn off all Lutron-connected devices in that room at once - very handy when my kids leave lights on. Once the switch is connected to the app, it's automatically in Homekit.
We will be adding more Lutron Casetas to other rooms soon!

No Neutral Install!

My first foray into getting my house "smart". I went with the Caseta unit after I had already purchased the TP-Link Kasa units and found out I couldn't use them because I didn't have a neutral wire in my light switch boxes (ah, old house problems). The only realistic options at this point for me were these more expensive Caseta units or the GE Cync (which look ugly as sin). So, realistically the Caseta is the only decent option if you need to do a no neutral install and to work with Google Home Assistant. The Caseta hub was also very easy to set up, but it does need to be wired connected to your router. The Pico remote was also super easy to set up in their app.

Why didn’t I buy this ecosystem sooner??!?! I first started with philips hue about 2 years ago. I pretty much filled up my entire house with the bulbs. Well I recently moved and my house is filled with recessed lighting. I wasn’t going to pay close to $60 for a single recessed light, especially when just my kitchen and dinning room has a total of 8 lights (not to mention the rest of the house). Then I came across the lutron caseta series. So glad I found it. Installation was super easy for just one switch, but when it came to the 3 way, that got kind of difficult for me. I’m definitely not an electrician, but I eventually got everything plugged correctly. I’m just glad I didn’t burn my house down while installing these. The pico remotes are crazy amazing too, and the fact that I can have Alexa turn the lights off from afar.

I have Phillips Hue lights and a bridge from a previous home and wanted to put those into the new house, but based on the fixtures, it wouldn't work. Since the existing built-in lights were already dimmable LEDs I decided to go with a smart switch.
I didn't feel great about replacing my current investment, but this kit was super-easy. The existing in-wall dimmer switch was a Lutron (just a dumb one) and this basically popped right in. With Lutron, you don't have to know which wire is line or load. Just make sure your ground wire is set and you can connect either line/load to either of their black wires. After that, you're all set.
Pairing the switch (and the included wireless one) was a breeze and the app works great. Google Home is also able to interface with Lutron Caseta so now I can just use that app vs. Lutron's.

Casetta is the best smart lightning platform I have used. They are simple to setup, are more compatible with different lightning setups like 3 way switches, and better compatibility with smart assistants. I can setup scenes, as an example, more often when I am out of the house, I can set it where the lights come just to make the house “lived in”. No more setting up timers on lamps! They are pricey than smart bulbs or other smart lightning products; their wall panels and plugs cost more. But Casetta have other wall switches, like some that can control ceiling fans. In addition, remember to check if your bulbs are compatible with , when I installed them in my room, my bulb didn’t like it and flashed the lights, until I changed them and it works nicely.

love the product, works great with alexa. easy to connect and setup. I got an echo 4gn with zigbee hub, oh the zigbee. i got a hue motion sensor connected with the echo and i set it up in the kitchen to turn on lights when someone walks in and it turns off after a minute. and after when we get up to get milk for the baby it turn on at 20% so that its not too bright at thise early mornings, since the switch is dimmable you can do that and also no neutral wire required since my house is older i dont have any in the electric box. I loved it so much that i got 2 more switch for different part of the house.

I recently got into home automation and I wanted a long term solution, so smart bulbs we not really an option. I picked up some cheap wifi light switches. They work well and do the job, but they weren’t going to work with all of my light switches due to the house wiring. Enter Lutron Caseta!! These switches are amazing!! They operate on a hub, so I don’t have a bunch of devices on my wifi. Just the hub. Speaking of which, the hub is small and doesn’t take a lot of electricity. In fact, I power mine from a USB port on my wifi router. It has a modern look so it goes well on a shelf, a hutch, or an entertainment center.
The switches themselves work great. They have a lighter tactile feel than I prefer, but they are of good quality. The wiring is fairly straight forward. The best part is the optional pico remotes. For multiple switches on the same circuit, you can install the a pico remote and not have to worry about wiring issues. And the remotes can operate multiple circuits. So, I’m our bedroom we have 1 remote for two switches. This way, if we leave the room we do not have to go all the way to the other side to shut off the light nearest the closet. Which was really annoying before this solution. I plan to do the same in my kitchen since the builder installed 3 different light circuits for a our small kitchen.
These light switches haven’t failed me yet. We use the Alexa app for home automation and the automation is solid. The cheap switches I installed in my garage have become unresponsive a few times, but not the Lutron switches!!
The price is the biggest constraint. These are $50-$70 a piece!! You can find deals and the initial purchase of this package deal helps, but they start to add up. Just be mindful not to order more than one package with the hub. I almost ended up with more than one hub because I wasn’t paying attention to what I was ordering.
Even with the price point, I give the Lutron Caseta switches 5 stars.
