I have this setup for a dedicated Fax Machine because the Government does not allow transmission of sensitive information via fax-to-email or email. I got one year Free with the device. Also love the fact that Bestbuy Price Matches so I got this thing for a steal!
I setup the device through the computer easily. I just plugged it in and went through the guided tutorial on the screen. There is a 911 fee that Magic Jack no longer pays for so be aware of that before you purchase the product. For my area it was only $6 a year. I was able to pick my own free number and finished the tutorial on screen.
Then I plugged in the magic jack into an Ethernet port, plugged in the power, and the phone port in the back of my 4-in-1 printer.
Now it was time to test the magic Jack. I sent and received test faxes without issue to the fax-to-email system I have at the home office without issue. Be aware that faxing isn't the intended purpose of this device so sometimes a high resolution (Photo) fax will fail/time out. Lower the resolution and it should go through (Super fine or fine).
Please be sure to understand that a phone cable is not included with Magic Jack, but an Ethernet cable and charger cable is. Phone cables are generally included with phones and all-in-one printers so be sure you didn't throw yours away and have one on hand. If you don't have one, snag one while you're in the store.
Overall I am highly satisfied with the device. It was easy to setup, inexpensive, and works for my needs. I also will be saving $324 a year when I renew my number next year. That's enough money to buy a new laptop!
Would I buy again? Yes, I would; and I did buy another one for the accounting section of the office. My friend also bought one and is using it for his home phone saving loads of money each year! It's a terrific product, just be aware of the 911 fee going in and you won't be disappointed.

It was easy to set-up and I haven't had a problem. The best part is the cost, the first year is already paid for when you buy the MagicJack after that it's $35/yr. I was paying more than that every month with the phone company I had before.

What took me so long? Good grief, for years I've been spending over $70.00 every month ($840.00 a year) with our area's mega landline telephone provider. A couple of weeks ago, I woke up from a nightmare in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. I had been doing calculations in my sleep about how much money i had wasted over the years. I remembered seeing an email from Best Buy about a product called MagicJack. Long story short, I went and bought a MagicJack, got back home and hooked it up in 5 minutes, went to the MagicJack website and configured the settings, along with porting my existing telephone number. Then I went to the telephone box outside and disconnected the big mega phone company's lines that came to the house from the telephone pole. TaDa...It's a beautiful thing. We have multiple phones upstairs and downstairs plugged into our original telephone wired wall outlets. Crystal clear reception. I purchased the MagicJack for $59.99, which included one year free service. After the first year, all i pay is $35.00 per year. That's $2.91 a month. If you want 911 availability, that will cost you another $6.50 per year, raising your yearly bill to approximately $41.50. I'm very much a skeptic when it comes to products and sales spiels with "Too Good To Be True" jibber jabber, but If you have high speed internet, MagicJack is a no brainer. I hope you can hear the excitement in my text here, because I seldom write reviews for products.

As good as my old Verizon FIOS landline phone

The MagicJack Go works as good as my old Verizon fios land line phone. Only if the Magic Jack does not use the home phone house wiring, it's to long and magic jack works best with a short phone cable connected from the magic jack to a electronic cordless phone that has it's own power to ring the phone. Old phones with mechanical brass bells do not work well if at all with magic jack. The brass bells take to much power to ring well and magic jack has very little power output.
I have five cordless Panasonic 6.0 cordless phones working off my answering machine base station. The USB connection to the computer is just to set up magic jack and when it's working use the power transformer that came with Magic Jack to power it.The computer does not have to be on for Magic Jack to work after it's set up and working. Magic Jack connects directly to your modem/router with a short cable.
I had bad luck with Magic Jack Plus. The caller heard echo in my voice. My internet speed is 50 Ms download and 5 Ms upload.
I also had problems not always hearing the caller and I had to instruct them to call back sometimes 3 or 4 time in order to hear them.
I have none of this problems with Magic Jack Go.
The price of the two models are about the same when you factor in the extra 6 months service with the "GO" model, and the "GO" model looks to be a newer design.
The photos shows Magic Jack powered by the transformer plugged into a an ac extension cord and connected to the Magic Jack through a USB connection. A 1 foot internet cable connects the modem/router to the magic jack. and a photo of my base station phone hooked up to the magic jack with the cable that came with the Magic Jack.

I had the original Magic Jacks several years ago and they worked great. They did have a slight delay when talking, I figure this was due to having to be plugged into your computer in order to work, so processing the outgoing and incoming sound through the computers processor was probably what caused this slight delay. Not a huge issue. It was mainly for use when I travel. My mom is retired and on a fixed income and has a cell phone for senior citizens that gives her a limited amount of free minutes each month and she hasn't had home phone service for a while to save money. Problem is that being put on hold for long periods of time when talking to doctors offices, etc. was running her minutes out. I decided, since I was pretty well pleased with my original Magic Jacks and after looking at several other options (Vonage, Basic Talk, AT&T U-Verse and others), to give the new Magic Jack Go a try, as it was the lowest annual cost. ($35 a year) . It was easy to set up and was able to connect it directly to the wifi cable/internet modem, so there there is no delay like there was with the original Magic Jack, but you still have the option to connect through your computer as well, which I have done and it seems like the delay is not an issue at ll with this new version of the Magic Jack. The sound is nice and clear. My mom has been using the Magic Jack Go for a month now with absolutely no issues and she is very happy with it. Now she can save her cell phone minutes for when she needs to make calls while away from home. I have decided that I will be purchasing a couple of Magic Jack Go's for myself, one to use for business and one for personal use. Very satisfied with this purchase! Why pay a huge bill to the phone/cable company when this little thing does the same job for much less? If you do not have or need High speed internet, then you may want to weigh this against other options, but if you're already have, or are considering High speed internet, then this is worth it for the savings on your phone bill.

I got the urge to investigate ways to drop my Verizon home phone service, which was costing me in the neighborhood of $900.00/year. Visited a bunch of tech websites, ended up deciding that MagicJack Go was the best option. Extra bonus - when I started shopping for it, Best Buy had it on sale!
Easy set up. I selected options to port my home number over and as soon as it was configured, outgoing calls used that number. Incoming calls had to wait 3 days (not the 2 weeks described) for Verizon to transfer my number, but they started coming in with no other work.
Call quality seems great. I was worried about choppiness, delays, and break-ups. No problems. I don't think anybody who calls has noticed any change.
Voice mails get emailed to me. I had a little goofiness configuring Gmail to play them, but that's not a MagicJack problem. Voice mails come as .wav attachments, which is a standard audio file format.
One downside that keeps this from being a 5-star rating is that MagicJack doesn't support Caller ID with Name. If the number is programmed into the phone you use for a landline, the name you program will be shown, but other numbers only come in as phone numbers, not names.
Other than that, I love it.

I had read that people were having problems with setup on the MagicJack GO so I was a bit worried something would glitch. Not a problem at all. Device works well. I am now in the process of porting my old number to it. If that goes well, review would be 5 stars. Only issue is MJ charges a $10 one time fee to port **AND** $10 to change the number. Not really clear on the 2 fees in literature and on the web. Still saving a boatload (OK, a really small boat but I digress) of $$ over the cheap Vonage plan. Hopefully, it will work as well as Vonage has for the past 9 years.

VOIP device that’s Totally Worth It!

I purchased this device to save on our phone bill about 10 months ago and it’s been one of the best inexpensive purchases I’ve ever made. I have it connected to an Ethernet port on our wireless router vs a PC that would have to be on all the time. Setting up the account online was kinda easy, but I still took my time to do it correctly. Porting over our telephone number from our cable provider was easy too, but there was a fee to do so. Call quality has been excellent- no one can tell the difference between the old land line & this VOIP device. I don’t use the cell phone app (redundant for me) but I have used it once and also the app on my MacBook Pro once just to try it. The local taxes & 911 fees are very low too. Not sure why I waited so long to give this a try.

AT&T, Verizon and all other landline phone companies GET A CLUE your landlines are not worth $50 - $100 a month especially with cell phones plans costing less then your VERY LIMITED USE landlines maybe if you would bring your price back to a reasonable rate !! But enough ranting I love my magic jack the sound is great it was very easy to setup and I can fax with it which is about all I do with it besides phone calls where I'm sure I'm going to be on hold for a LONG TIME

In an effort to get around the bundled Internet/tv/phone price racket, I decided to have my phone number ported to the MagicJack. Now if I get some fantastic offer to come back to Fios, I'll just get Internet and basic tv only (I have Netflix and a Roku which provides all the tv anyone could want). MagicJack cost $40, which covers the unit and the entire first year or service. Thereafter it's something like $36/yr. Porting your phone number, if you want to keep your number, was around $20 one-time cost. Alternatively, you can just get a new phone number for free, one that telemarketers aren't aware of, and not have to put up with them. The quality has been fine. The unit can either be used with your computer, or cabled to your router, as I did. I have a winter home in Florida, so that tiny piece of hardware will come with me, allowing me to have my long-time phone number down there also. So far, no problem with quality, dropped calls, etc.

Pros of Magic Jack:
1. Saves me $ monthly off my regular bill from the utility company
CONS of MAGIC JACK:
1.The Caller ID shows the incoming number but not the name of the friend who is programmed into the memory of the phone.
Only after the call is disconnected does it sometimes give the name of the caller. It’s inconsistent at best.
2. Why the caller ID window lists the phone number of the caller twice is a mystery. Some digits are dropped too.
3. During Call Waiting, it doesn’t display who that caller/or number is, so if I did answer it, it could be someone I don’t want to talk to., like a telemarketer.
4. My handsets are pre-set by Magic Jack to a different TIME ZONE (not PST) so when I get a message it gives the wrong time of that incoming call.
I tried several times to correct, but the minute a call comes in, it reverts to EST.
5. Not sure why Magic Jack lists twice the caller ID number, as its coming in, but after call is disconnected, it drops off the area code for 323. A new CA regulation says even if you have the same area code as someone else, you must put in the whole number including the area code. Because of the way MJ lists the number after the call is disconnected, I cannot hit redial. This is because the area code was dropped. The call will not go through. I then have to look up the caller’s number to get them on the phone. Wastes my time.
6. Sometimes a caller randomly gets the Magic Jack Voicemail instead of it ringing at home, & letting the home answering machine take it or me for that matter.
One time I tried calling home. Instead of it ringing it went straight to Magic Jack Voicemail, telling me the Magic Jack customer was not available. I called back 15 minutes later, that time it rang properly.

Love the magic jack go, worth every penny so far. Saving a bunch of money from my previous VoIP provider that just continued to raise the rates with no heads up or communication as to why.
Number porting is the least costly of any service, just over $10.
I couldn't be happier.
You do have to initially connect the magic jack to the computer for activation and firmware update but after that it just works pulled into the router and supplied 5v USB power adapter.

So far this device seems to work fine. I bought it to use for my fax machine. The setup was fairly straight forward. One thing I need addressed is... During the online registration, it allows you to choose a number. The number I chose seems to have a previous customers name still attached to the account. A different name shows up on Caller ID. And the online support, like many other companies, has no tech support number listed. Other than this issue, the product works great.

In use for a month now with no issues after initially being a bit of a pain to set up. Call quality is good. Only $35/year for service including caller ID, call forwarding, and an app if you want calls sent to your mobile.
Be aware:
Magic Jack charges $10 to port your existing # and takes about 5
days to complete.
Your router has to always be powered on.
Included ethernet cable is very cheap.

Less than $50. for the Magic Jack and a year of service - what a great deal! No monthly charge and great service for this voice over IP. The sound is great most of the time, but sometimes it will echo or break up a bit, which is annoying. Most of the time, though, you can hear everything clearly and it was very easy to get set up and working. And no service contract or deposit - such a great deal!
