In my room I have the Martin Logan 4i and 8i system with a Martin Logan Dynamo 800x subwoofer. I have demoed the following receivers in the past several weeks: Pioneer VSXLX104 (sound was far too flat, lackluster room correction software), Denon AVRX2600H (lacked punch, power was underwhelming, better room correction), Onkyo TX-NR797 (Sound was overly bright and metallic sounding, room correction was about as good as the Pioneer, and HDMI switching was problematic). Enter the Marantz SR5013. I was very skeptical trying the Marantz because of the less-than-stellar reviews it had received vs. Denon. From the minute I unpacked it, I could tell this was the best machine I had purchased in my pursuit of a great A/V Atmos receiver. The build quality was excellent, the connectors, heft, and included accessories all felt more premium than any of the previous receivers I had tried. After unboxing and setting up the unit, I had an issue where my HDMI Arc Output was not working with my Samsung. I installed a firmware update, and it started working. I ran the room correction software, and was immediately impressed with the sound. Everything sounded extremely well balanced. Not overly bright like the Onkyo, and not flat and lifeless like the Pioneer. Extremely pleasing and natural with the right about of life and presence. It also has more power than the Denon - although this receiver is a few hundred dollars more. One thing it excels in, is with Atmos and audio height presentations. The way it renders audio across my room is (without a doubt)the best i've experienced with the receivers I have tried out. Highly recommended!

I’m not an audiophile. This receiver has a lot of features. Took my time, downloaded the manual & read much of it. You need to read the manual to understand how to use it. It’s quite versatile. Everything worked. Nothing broken. Some features took awhile to understand & required rereading the manual. Had a 5.1 system 6 year old Marantz. Then acquired 4K TV & 4K Fire stick & 4K Apple TV. But, old receiver wouldn’t do 4K. Have JBL Studio 530 speakers. Average surround rear. Kilpsch RP-500C center Polk 15” subwoofer Sony 10” subwoofer Vdo wasn’t significantly better since I only have 12Mb DSL line. It is good HD. -Netflix HD account - Prime VDO - Apple TV - CBS all access - YouTube Use fire stick for most streaming. Apple TV 4K for music & Apple TV service. Unexpected additional uses: - significant improvement in music quality. - Bi-Amp JBL Studio 530 - connect second subwoofer - utilize old receiver to drive outdoor speakers using the ‘Zone 2’ feature. - various sound modes. Utilize (or not) various speakers. VDO is 5.2 now Can’t do 7.2 since I use one channel for Bi-Amp Really surprised at noticeable improvement in music listening. Speakers went from single amp 50 watt to 2x 100 watt bi-amp. It does make a difference. Configure with “small speakers” enable subwoofers with Stereo mode. Outside speakers have decent volume with old receiver as dedicated amp. The Audyssy speaker configuration tool is useful. I wasn’t able to get the subwoofers balanced correctly till I did the automatic setup. & the surround sound was noticeably better balanced afterwards.

I picked this unit up to replace my aging Pioneer vsx unit. The installation was a piece of cake. I love the way the sleek design looks in my entertainment cabinet. Upon turning it on, it automatically went through the quick setup. After that, I finished setting up the smart features and now I can play any music I like by telling Alexa to do it for me. I really enjoy all of the great features on this device and would recommend it to anyone looking for a unit in this range.

After watching, seemingly, thousands of reviews, I settled on the Marantz 5014. I know the next gen is around the corner, but I really won’t be needing 8k or 4K 120 for the foreseeable future, so this was the perfect option, especially for the price. Mine is paired with a Jamo 5.0 system and a custom subwoofer I built using a 10” JL W3. And for additional context, I’ve been content with a sound bar (Nakamichi) for quite some time. However, the investment into a “budget” system is by far the best move I’ve made in 2020 since wearing a mask. The Marantz, as the center piece, not only looks good but it provides the warm sounds I was looking for. I knew the Jamo system was known for being a bit on the bright side, so I figured the Marantz would be perfect to warm it up, and it sure did! Not to mention, having Audyssey packaged in takes away the guesswork when fine tuning the sound. One thing to be aware of, I had an issue where sound wasn’t coming from the TV to the receiver reliably. However, after lots of digging, I noticed my HDMI cable wasn’t “ultra high speed”. I swapped it out and haven’t had a problem since. All in all, I highly recommend this receiver! ... Full set up is LG CX 77in, Jamo surround with S809 for front L/R, Marantz 5014, banana plugs and 14 gauge speaker cables. Pending the arrival of the Jamo Atmos speakers.

    Great When It Works

Purchased this to replace and upgrade my older Sony that didn't have Dolby Atmos. I was impressed by the performance and richness that this AVR produced on my Definitive Technology surround system. But in a matter of days I noticed that while I was getting sound I wasn't getting a signal on TV screen. I was hoping that it was just a bad HDMI cable so I replaced it but I still was getting no signal. I even purchased a Panamax M5300-PM thinking that maybe my electrical power needed some line conditioning. I though that did it when I got a signal on my TV screen but my problem was back again when I tried to use my AVR after I left my system off overnight. I then experimented by unplugging the AVR to restart it and I got my signal back on my TV. So every time I turned off my AVR for a long period of time I would need to unplug it to view my shows on TV. I read similar issues with this AVR in the reviews on Best Buy and on the internet. I found this unacceptable for a $1000 AVR so I returned it. The problem was that Best Buy didn't many AVRs in stock at the time. Luckily, they had a Sony STRDN1080 which is Dolby Atmos capable. While not as rich sounding as the Marantz it is consistent with producing a great picture on my TV and cost nearly half the price of the Marantz.

It sounds good and works well with everything except HDMI running back into it from the TV-- that makes clicking sounds so I don't use that feature and instead things through other devices than the TV. It sometimes is slow to respond to switching which inputs, and for some reason defaults to the Apple TV even if i haven't touched that remote. overall its a good sounding device but still maybe needs a little finesse.

DOA input ports and very limited support hours

I purchased this yesterday to replace an aging Denon AVR. I hooked it up immediately when I got home. I have a firetv, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Cromecast, CD changer, Technics SL-1200, and TV audio connections. I filled most of the ports. I used the SPDIF inputs for TV and CD. The TV SPDIF input Opt1 appears to be DOA out fo the box. The Marantz Customer support is only available durning business hours Eastern Time. Did some troubleshooting and it looks like a dead port. Also, initially, the monitor out 1 port did not work but monitors out 2 did. A factory reset cleared the issue but not the SPDIF OPT1 problem. I will return it to Best Buy Geek Squad for evaluation and possibly replacement. Sound: It sounds great. It pushes my old JBL 5311 studio monitors well. The opening ship battle scene of Master and Commander Bluray, rocked the house and sounded amazing. The Phono stage seems a bit thin but acceptable. The old Denon did not have Phono, so I used an inexpensive external phono stage that seems to be better. Just no TV audio. I am going to assume that this is a one-off issue. If its user error, or a new one works correctly, I will change the rating to 5 star.

We were expecting great things from this receiver but it just didn’t deliver. It came across as being under powered. The setup was easy but it had a tendency to switch sources randomly. This was not using ARC which failed immediately. Sadly it was a no go us.

Have only had it in operation for two weeks but it is working as expected. It is simpler to use than the McIntosh MX 119 that I had been using for the past twelve years. The only disappoint that I have is that the Geek Squad was unable to connect the receiver's pre -outs to the McIntosh power amp that I used with my old system. The power amp section of this receiver is adequate but does not have the pure push of the McIntosh (200 watts a channel all chann.els driven). All in all I would recommend this product to a friend

This receiver is a joy to listen to. Playing Blu-ray with a hires player sounds amazing. It has plenty of power for my klipsch rp600 and center channel and sub. Playing music from the Heso app is easy. The setup was a breeze with really good onscreen instructions to setup each component. The quality of the sound is great. I hope to have this receiver for a long time.

Sounds good, however when using HDMI (Verizon Fios service), it will occasionally revert your settings to 480i verses 1080p on cable box especially if you don't turn receiver on.

I just purchased this to go with my new LG OLED 4K tv and I am very impressed with the overall sound quality and performance it does. I had demoed the higher up version and there is no difference that I could hear. The User Interface is a little dated and a little tricky to understand at first, but most people can figure that out. Only major issue was having it to recognize the HDMI ARC coming from the TV, I did the latest update and it worked just fine after a 12-minute update. The app works great with the receiver even though it is hidden in a back/storage room with my other components. I would recommend this receiver to anyone in the future.

Marantz and HEOS apps are a little clunky and need to be refined, but they offer a great convenience after you get them figured out. We are using the main channel for our living room and the second channel for our outside speakers. The music sounds great and the quality is superb. The receiver is connected to our Google Home app. Would like additional operating features through the Google Home app, but it works as intended via Google Assistant.

Marantz and I go way back... from 1975 to 1978 when I served in the US Army overseas in South Korea. I purchased my first receiver #2325 - wood cabinet, it's still going strong. We moved into our custom-built house and wanted the works, in-wall/ceiling speakers, security cameras, etc - so I knew my choice had to be another Marantz...and I'm truly happy for my decision and purchase. We have the TV, security system, DVD player, speakers, turntable...all connected to the Theater Receiver which makes everything so accessible.
