Rock Solid Sound

As of this writing I’ve had my SR6015 just over a month and as a home theater sound processor this thing is rock solid. Its two-channel musicality is top-notch as well. It is easy to configure and calibrate, and the Audyssey MultiEQ feature makes room correction a breeze. Once configured, the user interface is fairly intuitive.
My only complaint is that if you power up the receiver before, say, waking up your Roku or blu ray, the sound doesn’t pass through. However, if you power up the receiver after you power up your sources, everything is great. Although, this may be an HDMI protocol issue. My cable between the Roku and the receiver is certified to HDMI 2.0, as is the blu ray cable. Still trying to suss this out.
That aside, I’d still recommend this receiver. It sounds so much better than my old Pioneer Elite!

I loved this Amp until it stopped working two days ago. Clearly a manufacturing defect. Front channels gone. Don’t buy.

We had a set of DefTec 9080 speakers and B&W 601s as our surrounds, all hooked into a Yamaha AVR. The sound was good but we wanted better. We moved the 601s into our garden room (our human couldn't do it) and replaced them with SR9080 surrounds. Meow!
We replaced our 7.2 Yamaha with the 9.2 Marantz SR6015 (with the help of a 10% off email for our birthday). Another improvement. Slightly warmer sound, better image and stage. Plenty of power -- it's only a 1,400 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2 cat-tree house.
Also, added Amazon Music HD. Ooooo-Rah!
The Marantz does a better job sending bass signals to the 9080 tower powered subwoofers than the Yamaha did from right off the scratching post. We used the included mic and software to set up the speakers initially but later in the week we re-did it felinely -- again, an improvement.
Music from our vinyl is also much improved.
We run our 75" 4k Sony from the apps on our 4k Apple TV (picture is better than from the cable box) and the Marantz fixed up some signal problems without any special tweaking. Dolby Atmos problems were also taken care of.
Switching amps was simply a matter of disconnecting and reconnecting cables -- one at a time. Speaker wires were a lot easier to deal with on the Marantz than on the Yamaha.
Music (mostly jazz, classical and oldies rock) sounds better than ever and sound effects on cat videos, that tuna fishing show (and movies) are better, especially movement from one part of the screen to the other.
Good investment.

I recently purchased the Marantz SR6015 about a week ago. So far, I am pretty blown away by it.
My setup consists of two B&W 603 S2 fronts and a B&W HTM6 S2 center, and a Rythmik sub. I was previously using a Denon X4300H as my receiver, which actually has more power than this one. Even though the Denon had more power, the quality of sound from the 6015 is just so much better.
I find the dialog from the Marntz is very clear and easier to understand. The bass out of my fronts is more impactful, and individual sounds just really stand out.
I am using my receiver using ARC, so I can't comment on the video performance.
Setup of the receiver is dead simple. Just plug in your speakers and inputs to the appropriate spot and you are good to go. The Audyssey software does a good job detecting the speakers and setting the appropriate distances. I would recommend buying the MultiEq app that gives you some extra control customizing the Audyssey configuration.
My one complaint with the Marantz, is that it has such a small front display. I noticed the higher end models have second hidden display in the front. I really wish they would have added it here as well.
I was debating getting an Anthem receiver, but hearing how hard they are to setup (and seeing the Best Buy associate having a problem using it) I decided to go with Marantz instead.

This receiver rocks!!! It's easy to use, has a lot of power and has many different audio selections for game play and watching movies. The only recommendation I would give is to make sure the location for this receiver is as open as possible or have a cabinet with a fan to exhaust the heat as heat is the enemy of any electrical component. Other than that, i'm so happy I purchased this receiver. Note1: This receiver has many options however, we only utilize the game play and movie audio settings. Note2: This receiver only has 4k/8k HDMI inputs so you will need converters if you're still using a laser disk player, VHS player or any older devices. Note3: Once the receiver has been EQ'ed to the room, then you can easily manipulate each speaker level accordingly. Note4: Value - This device is differently not for simply plug and play types, but for those that want serious audio play back. I can hear things in movies that I couldn't hear with simple sound bars and stereo speakers. Because of the price, the value isn't there for those that just want to hear sound.

First impressions of this receiver was a little shaky due to the minimalist idea of the info screen and buttons. It was what I wanted, but was actually intimidated by the simplicity of it all. I upgraded from the Sony 1080 which shows a lot of info on the screen as well as has a lot of buttons on the front. That being said, understanding what is what and what to hook up is key in this set up because once its up and running you need to know which quick button on the remote to hit and what settings are set for those sources. (I applied specific sound ranges for each source) This receiver sounds absolutely amazing, and the clean sound at high volumes is so beautiful. Atmos with the four ceiling channels running is where it's at if that is the reason for getting this amp. I did have to buy a separate amp for the front channels to do this (unit only has 9 amps and 11 is needed for 4 ceiling speakers) but the receiver is designed to decode 7.2.4 (11.2) and for future proofing the receiver has hdmi 2.1 (important if you want the 120hz refresh passthrough)

After upgrading from a Sony 7 channel receiver to the Marantz SR6015 9 channel I feel I finally got what I wanted. This receiver gives you great power and great features. Easy to use and setup Is the best I’ve ever used for calibration. I’m using all 9 channels. My front and center are being powered by a external amplifier. I recently bought the amp for two reasons… more power and relieving 3 channels from my Marantz receiver. Giving the Marantz more head room and relieving any power strain on the unit. After installing the amplifier I didn’t notice much of a difference in sound volume or quality. This showed me that the receiver powering 9 channels was doing an excellent job powering all my speakers by itself. This is why I’m giving 5 stars. This receiver is high quality and don’t be afraid to use all channels. This unit will give you optimal performance no matter your set up and no matter what you throw at it. Yes an external amp will help the receiver breath more freely and will help the longevity of the receiver so don’t hesitate to add a amplifier. I did notice the receiver gets less hot when freeing up those 3 channels. I use an external fan so I notice right away it was running cooler. The fan runs at its lowest speed most times when I’m using the receiver. Highly recommend if you want to take your music and home theater experience to the next level.

The sr6015 is a great mid range receiver.
I used it to power my mid and rear surround and 4 atmos and used a separate emotiva amp to run my fronts.
The 6015 delivered plenty of power to all channels as described and never ran into any bugs or issues.
Highly suggest this product

I bought this unit to act as a pre/pro for use with external amplifiers and do not intend to use the unit's own internal amps. This review focuses solely on that usage. The unit runs cool as a pre/pro with no noticeable warmth on the top vent. In a word, the electronics provide as pure a sound for music as I have heard. Musicality is another word that fits. When a quiet point is reached in a song, it is quiet with no background noise or hiss. Voices are rich and mellow. Obviously the quality of the experience is also affected by the amps used, speakers, environment, etc. But if you have a good kit, this unit is going to give you a very musical experience. For movies, the sound is more balanced across the 5.1 setup than my 10-year old Integra. While the remote does not have dedicated buttons to adjust center/SS channels, one button push gives you "options", then navigate keys to "audio" and the desired channel's volume change. Easy. One last nit about the remote, it is not backlighted but the layout is simple and rarely confusing. One overall nit about the unit - the legacy "porthole" display is outdated and limited in the information offered upon it. Nostalgia is nice, but these days it is all about information. My thought is to keep the overall rounded fascia of the unit which is a nice look, but utilize a bigger LED screen, say 2X4 inches, with content information. I would also like to pre-program the sub to activate or de-activate for certain modes, for example "off" for stereo, "on" for 5.1, etc. In sum, as a pre/pro the unit is highly musical and smooth, and nicely balanced or adjusted for movies. I did not evaluate the internal amps at all. Recommended.

Great centerpiece to my home theater system. Had entire system, tv, speakers, gradient lighting, receiver installed, wired while room was under renovation by home theater installation company. This system is incredible. I am not a music enthusiast. I enjoy roof rattling live sports events, and action movies. Cannot imagine I would have found a better system.

This receiver is only getting a four star due to Marantz customer service. The receiver works great and does all we need it to for our bowers and Wilkins set up. Absolutely wonderful sound watching movies and listening to music from the receiver. The only issue is Bluetooth will connect now but no matter what we’ve tried it has no sound, when previous it worked perfectly. Customer service has told us to do everything we already have done with no results. They really don’t have any answers or offer much more help figuring it out.

Pros: build quality, packaging is excellent, accessories were nice and useful, easy setup, sound overall is satisfying. After calibration its more reference level with what you pay for. Blue tooth, wifi, heos, eq work well.
Cons: hdmi chip sets? 4k @ 60hz via hdmi connected to roku streaming has glitches. It works but from time to time using qfs signal is loss or when streaming no signal only audio unitll I shut off external unit and restart it. It happens to cable too. Considering bypassing avr hdim and using only arc to pass thru, but should I have too? I read the hdmi chipset on forums are thrid party supplied, and with addition of new 8k maybe I am just a beta tester? Make sure to warranty extended 4 years with new year unit just incase. Also auddessy extra 20$ app is a must if you want to optimize your money spent for quality sound. This is an investment so treat it as such!

This receiver is a replacement from my Denon SR920W which was getting a bit long in the tooth and moved to my secondary system. The Denon new was around a $600 receiver versus this unit which was $1599. [Note in the past week the price has jumped to 1699, strange, must be a MSRP change for 2021]
What does an extra $1000 get you:
More Dynamic, warmer musical sound. The Marantz just has more head room than the Denon due to a slightly beefier amplifier section.
This unit also weighs 8 pounds more (20.8 lbs vs 28 lbs) and the upgrade build quality is evident. Nicer terminals, inputs, detachable power cord.
This unit also has full pre-amp outputs along with a preamp mode to turn off amplification if you want to try external amplification.
The display is small but to me this is not a bad thing since the on screen display gives me everything I need. The Denon takes up half the front panel and is somewhat obnoxious.
Get the unit, you are going to be trapped inside for the next year with no movies or live music, so you might as well enjoy life.

Typical Marantz receiver. Very warm sounding. No HDMI ARC issues that I can find, unlike the Denon I just exchanged out for this. I know they’re the same company but the Marantz has is less buggy for some reason. Would give 5 stars except the volume resets to lowest level every time it powers off. I’ve changed the settings but it still does not power up with correct volume according to settings in the menu. Obviously a bug but still a very good unit.

The Marantz SR6015 AVR is a great receiver. I have it set up in a 7.1.2 configuration with Klipsch speakers. It’s not very bombastic but it’s clear and refined. It separates the sounds and creates a true soundscape. When researching receivers I found that Marantz was more musical not as bass heavy as Denon ( they are made by the same company). I chose the Marantz because it does everything I want and more. The only downside is the small display, but I get the design aesthetic The receiver itself is beautiful to see

I had a previous Marantz that I had purchased 10 years ago. It was time for an upgrade and I couldn't be more pleased. I wanted Dolby Atmos plus the newer HDMI connections and support for 4K and 8K video output. The sound quality for both music and home theater is excellent. I also like the HEOS that allows me to play all of my music streaming service through my speakers. Another bonus is the mic that comes with this receiver to properly set and tune your speakers for great optimum sound for all of the various movie audio formats.
