If your going to do a theater just do it right from the beginning . Go big with the receiver and then you can slowly add more speakers to finish it up

System is great. Sits between denon 6500 and denon 8500 its sister company. Well built and the audessey tech is fantastic. I would not buy agian however as I feel the denon 6500 would be a better buy.

    Headache after Headache

Marantz personnel have counseled me to do more resets and restores on this unit than I care to count. The following problems are all frequent - daily. It will spontaneously switch to the TV Audio input, when I set it for Cable/SAT, and has frequent HDMI 'handshake' problems (I use WireLogic Sapphire active cables) and have tried different cables to no avail. Some BestBuy personnel even laughed about this to the Geek Squad personnel that came to look at my set-up to diagnose the issue. They laughed because they claim that Marantz and a few other receiver manufacturers have problems with LG tvs (I have one of LG's OLED 65" Smart models). Well, I wish someone would have told me this before I dropped three thousand dollars on this SR8012 Save yourself the grief, get another receiver. I'm not sure which model I will get to replace this 'boat anchor' as I now refer to it, but I am very close to eBaying this SR8012 just to be rid of its incessant problems. I even called Marantz to tell them about this and to communicate my distain and disappointment. I told them, had I seen just one review that referred to these problems, I would never have bought the SR8012. I hope this will save someone else from this massive Marantz headache.

I cannot comprehend how this amazing Beast can do what it does best, and that is... produce jaw dropping superb sound quality. I have owned almost every flagship receiver but this one putes all of them to shame. Don’t believe me? I dare you to see for yourself. If there is such a thing as too much quality, this is it! My jaw is still dropped to the floor and wish me luck to pick it up because I haven’t had luck trying to pick it up. If you end up buying this incredible beast, I wish you luck trying to pick your jaw up.

I have the SR8012. Trust me, it's about the set up, and speakers you are using...This thing is unreal! It also has built in crossovers so make sure you familiarize yourself with that aspect. Using Klipsch towers and two 10 inch powered subs...Nice to be able to turn your music all the way down and still hear everything....

Fantastic High Powered - High End Receiver

Marantz SR8012: First off this is a very expensive receiver that may be cost prohibitive for some owners to even consider, I understand that. But, for those that want a fantastic high-powered home theater receiver that is also awesome at music reproduction, this is the one to get. Packed with features and high power output across a full 11 channels this is one heck of a beast that sounds amazing. I'm running Definitive Technology BP-9080x floor speakers with Definitive surrounds and Center that is absolutely amazing sounding......both for music and surround sound movies. The other review stating this receiver is built to "old-school" standards is spot on......no cutting corners here, using premium components and design that is the way quality receivers used to be built. Glad I spent the money on getting a high end system that will last me many years and provide a lot of enjoyment for many years. If you can afford it, go for it.....you won't regret it.

    Would Not Buy Again

This receiver is a grotesquely-overpriced mid-level unit claiming to be an audiophile unit. If you are looking for an audiophile AV receiver, look to Integra, Anthem, or Arcam. Those are audiophile receivers, costing about what Marantz arrogantly overcharges for this quaint mid-level unit. This is unfortunately the best I could get, and I was unfortunately unaware of Integra, Anthem, or Arcam when I bought this quaint unit. I run Atlantic Technology System 4400 with the 642e subwoofer. This receiver powers them reasonably, and they sound far better than anything BestBuy has right now - which is a credit to Atlantic Technology: the premier home theater speaker manufacturer in the world.
