Francis Ford Coppola's films spanned 20 years in the making and gave us many memorable characters and a glimpse into the horrors of the Mafia. But the movie, in my opinion, deserves better reviews. Mostly the complaints of the critics are upon the fact that the movie doesn't seem to work as a standalone and Sophia Coppola's acting is bad, but considering someone watching today, in a world governed by movie franchises built in reference to predecessor movies, this argument falls flat. As for the latter, i do agree that her acting in acts1 and 2 were flat, but she quickly made up in the 3rd act. What i really want to talk about is Al Pacino and Diane Keaton's chemistry. I couldn't help but praise these veterans' skills as an actor. They both bring out the vulnerabilities and hope in their relationship whether they are together. At the end when Mary dies and they both fall to their daughter's lifeless body, we experience 2 moments in cinema which, in my opinion, is one of the rarest display of traumatic emotions i have ever seen. From Kay's immediate realisation to Michael's hope that her daughter may still be alive; from Kay rushing to get daughter's body to Michael letting out the roar of agony as he realises that the worst he feared has happened, the thing he fought to do the most (keeping his family safe) has been taken away from him; from this scream to Kay's enraged look towards Michael as she blames it o him, the worst she feared for her children has happened. And then the montage of Michael's life to Michael's death, is simply one of the best endings i have seen in cinema. I think this movie is much better than the reviews painted it to be!

The Godfather tragedy is completed in this final part. Director Francis Ford Coppola may have only done this third and final part to The Godfather Trilogy for money, but he crafts a solid story with highly imaginative cinematography all the same. Many twists and turning points are telegraphed beforehand with another excellent script from famed writer Mario Puzo. Notably, actor Al Pacino delivers a highly compelling performance as the aging Godfather figure Michael Corleone. He expresses remorse, rage, and ingenuity even in his advanced years. Pacino's gives you the calm and control focused Michael, while also emoting a sorrowful regret in his acting. It is certainly a respectable farewell to his iconic character Michael Corleone. Furthermore, the supporting cast is fairly fun and filled with familiar faces. Talia Shire is sublime as Connie Corleone. She gets more screen time than the previous two films, and I appreciate it. Shire nails Connie's loyal and manipulative role. Eli Wallach plays a treacherous old Don with a clear glee that is infectious. Diane Keaton reprises her role as Kay with a sincere attitude of uncertainty as to her forgiveness of Michael's crimes. It is a decent cast with some other minor lackluster performances. However, Shire, Wallach, and Keaton will keep you engaged alongside Pacino. Similarly, Andy Garcia gives an earnest shot as Sonny's son Vincent. Garcia is clever in his outing as he starts out portraying Vinny as an uncontrollable hothead. He then morphs into the more serious Vincent Corleone to take over as the new Godfather. It is too bad that his character is weighed down with an awkward incest subplot that is so distracting. Herein lies the problem with The Godfather Part III: Sofia Coppola. She plays Michael's daughter Mary Corleone with a deadpan expression the entire time. Her line delivery is so flat and disinterested. Even with a solid script and competent direction, Sofia's acting is thoroughly underwhelming. Well I do not think she ruins the movie, she is obvious ill suited for the role. On the other hand, Sofia is gorgeous and looks like she could be Pacino's daughter, but unfortunately she cannot act. The saving grace of Sofia's career as an actress being cut short is that we later get her brilliant films that she directs. Sofia Coppola is truly her father's daughter as she eventually goes on to mature into one of the finest directors in Hollywood. She actually directed some of my favorite films with The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, and The Beguiled. At least Carmine Coppola's score is absolutely stunning. He manages to capture the enchanting atmosphere of the original two movies with his lovely compositions. The Italian music playing throughout The Godfather Part III is quite pretty and nicely fitted to the tone of each scene. Another weakness is the pacing of the movie. Although The Godfather Part III is by far the shortest of the trilogy it feels the longest thanks to its slow pace. The edits linger too long on many shots, making you notice the film's imperfections all the more obvious. In short, Francis Ford Coppola adequately completed his legendary crime trilogy with this satisfying, if flawed film. I found it a bit long, but well worth the wait. While the acting is a mixed bag, you are entertained by a majority of the cast. The music is so sweet and will keep you entranced all the way to the credits. The Godfather Part III is worth a watch to finish out this series.

A better edit than the original. Can’t go wrong with the Godfather trilogy!!!

As we celebrate 50 years of The Godfather, this is a must have for any film lover/collector. The definitive version of The Godfather 3

Godfather 3 has always been the weakest of the series. Coppola's new edit of the film reduces it by about 15 minutes or so, changes the opening, and a slight change at the conclusion, although the ending is STILL lousy. I did find myself missing 1-2 things that he edited out. He adds one "gruesome" kill, which is graphic...but I can't really say the film is all that different. A bit shorter, scenes switched, still just a mid range Godfather. Stick with 1-2 only. But if you want to see the changes, and you're a collector, it may be worthwhile to buy.

A better version to a sub par original effort. Even with the bad taste left behind from its first attempt, ( the old decrepit Michael falling over in his chair from old age and the convoluted and confusing storyline). This go has a re-edited storyline and ending. As well as having newly added expository scenes for a more understandable narrative. Ending the movie with even more tragedy than the horror at the opera house steps. Enjoyed it more than it’s original take. And a proper finalization to the trilogy. Now Mr. Coppola, give us a 4K version to the trilogy, as well as the saga edit, which tells the story in chronological order. Only available on VHS from what I remember from the 80’s

Had to buy this as I never liked Michael falling off his chair dead at the end of the original version; it reminded me of Father Guido Sarducci fallnig off his chair on SNL all the time. Spoiler alert: Thank goodness Francis Coppola HAS finally edited that out. The film also kicks off better and flows better EXCEPT for the opera finale, which unfortunately doesn't seem to have the heart-breaking impact it had in the original editing. All in all, The Godfather Coda IS better than The Godfather III version. Highly recommended.

An astounding alternative to Francis Ford Copalla's Godfather Part III, The Godfather Coda gives the film new life an makes just enough minor corrections to provide some essential viewing for Godfather fans. Make no mistake, this IS a different cut of the movie, however, it is still very much the same movie as Godfather Part III. You won't be blown away by drastic changes, but I think the changes that have been implemented make this the superior version. It's a great purchase, but there will probably be a a full collection with this Coda included, so some may want to hold-out for that!

The re-edit of the final film of “The Godfather” trilogy is worth a purchase if you are a fan. shorter and with some extended scenes, scenes reordered along with newer scenes that replace some older originally included scenes, the film flows better and feels like more of a fitting conclusion to this crime family saga. Though this release includes no bonus features, the price point makes it a must have for completists like myself.

Michael Corleone, now in his 60s, seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. That successor could be fiery Vincent, but he may also be the spark that turn's Michael's hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. This special director's cut includes a new beginning and ending, as well as changes to scenes, shots, and music cues. The resulting project reflects author Mario Puzo and director Francis Ford Coppola's original intentions for the film.

A more focused and nuanced edit of the film formally known simply as “The Godfather Part III, by Francis Ford Coppola. His original vision was previously shown in the latest Blu-ray box set of The Godfather trilogy with a rough cut of how he wanted the opening scene to be. *Only going to see this version now. Wish there were more extras or new commentary. Maybe even a new interview from Sofia Coppola, and how she was brought in last minute to play Mary Corleone after Wynona Ryder had to back out.

An interesting retake of a thirty year old experiment. While the original release of this movie was ostensibly about the death of Michael Corleone, this film has other things in mind. If you remember the climax of the first “edition” of this movie, Corleone dies an old, lonely man in a Sicilian estate. This film changes that and shows the spiritual and emotional death of Corleone. It’s a slight modification to the climax of the 1990 release, but a huge change to the meaning of the film. It’s a better version as well; everyone dies, but most of us are able to hold onto our souls until we take our last breath.

I am a Godfather fan and wanted to see this re-edit of Part III. I don’t think is worth the effort by Coppola. The new beginning and ending with some clarity of parts in between. It is not like the story changed a lot. There are also no extras except for the brief introduction by Coppola. Save your money.

Watching Francis Ford Coppola's re-edit of The Godfather Part III is an interesting experiment especially if you have the time to watch with the original back-to-back (almost six hours). The bluray release looks and sound great and comes with a digital code but no supplements. Must have for any The Godfather or Coppola fans.

This is a barebones release of the Coppola classic. I was not one of those that trashed this film when it was released, though it is the weakest of The Godfather trilogy. This re-edit helps a bit, helping the viewer focus more on the attempted redemption of Michael. The new restored print is a beauty, easily one of the best 1080p blu rays I have ever seen. This is a nice release until the inevitable 4k release.

I’ll be honest I don’t have a real big issue with the the original cut if godfather part 3 but I think this a welcomed new cut that can accommodate those that would prefer a different edition. If you didn’t like the last film I don’t think it this version will change much for you but give it a watch nonetheless.

The movie looks great in this new copy, the edits enhance the movie, but overall it's about the same movie. I happen to love this one, but it competes with the Masterpiece that is Godfather & Godfather II. Would have preferred a 4K version, but it is definitely a must have for those that love this franchise.

Godfather Part III has always been the weak link in this franchise. But Coppola's latest edit does improve it, making it more streamlined and comprehensive. It's a good looking Blu-ray, but opt for the 4K disc.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I didn't watch it yet. I also bought the 3 movie collection to replace my VHS tape collection I want to watch the 3 movies first again then watch this movie. But looking forward to watching all of them. I hope the latest one is as great as the first 3.
