Audio quality is good. The setup instructions could have been better. It didn’t explain how to pair with it very well, if you’re familiar with Bluetooth you can figure it out but it wasn’t as straightforward as typical Bluetooth setups. The design is very nice.

This is a GREAT looking speaker and it sounds great.
That's where it stops for me.
This speaker WILL NOT connect to WIFI.
For the record, I am extremely tech-savvy. Still can't connect.
Multiple conversations with tech-support were uneventful as their only solution was factory reset, reinstall app and follow the install instructions.
Good advice, guys.
I have given up on trying to connect and will be returning.
Good luck, I hope it works for you because its a good looking device.

Hey there William, thank you for your review. These speakers are generally straight forward to setup, an issue with the setup indicates a WiFi obstacle or possible a defective unit. We encourage you to send it in for an evaluation or returning the unit to Best Buy to exchange it for a new unit and try again.

Marshall Acton II w/Alexa ROCKS!

Marshall Acton II Voice Wireless Speaker with Amazon Alexa - it ROCKS! I am not an audiophile and I'm not going to list all of the specifications of this amazing speaker. I will just say this is so much more than I expected. I wasn't familiar with the Marshall name, but after seeing it, I certainly recognize the look of those classic guitar amps. Very classy looking speaker. And I must mention this is about 6" high and about 10" wide and weighs in at about 5lbs! This is a hefty speaker.
This is not what I would call a portable speaker, however you can move this speaker from room to room if you wish, but it must be plugged in - it is wireless but it’s not cordless.
Connection is simple: You can sync directly to your Bluetooth device (eg iPhone) to play your favorite playlist. You can also get the Marshall Voice app and via WiFi, play anything via your network. The app allows various levels of sound adjustment but you can also use the knobs on top to adjust the treble, bass and volume. This thing can blast out the tunes while keeping a fantastic sound. Living in an apartment, I am not able to push it to its limits (I'm a considerate neighbor) but I pushed it a lot, and the sound remained clear and crisp. I love the sound this puts out.
The Alexa voice assistant is an added plus. Personally, I am a Google home person having 4 placed throughout my apartment. Having Alexa doesn't mess with Google because you have to address them by their name, so it's a handy additional information source for me and I always have questions and requests. They each have their own pros and cons. I can request music from Pandora or Spotify or Amazon Music. I've got it all.
Above all, the sound of this Marshall speaker is not to be understated! A definite recommend!

I have owned numerous bluetooth speakers, but this is my first one that has had Amazon's Alexa assistant built-in. To sum up this item easily, if you would love for your smart speaker to be able to double as your audio device, this is the speaker for you.
Pros:
- The Marshall design/style is phenomenal. It will remind you of old-school speakers popularized decades ago and are still in use today because of their quality.
- The sound quality is excellent. You won't be filling up the whole house with sound, but it is plenty loud for its size. And the clarity is impressive. You can't find much better sound quality in this price range.
- The inclusion of Alexa is a huge plus. If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber then you instantly have access to thousands of songs at your fingertips that you can stream just by asking Alexa to play a specific song or album for you.
- The compact design allows you to place this speaker on pretty much any regularly sized shelf and it doesn't sacrifice sound quality.
Cons:
- Having to install yet another app to my phone to use another smart device is kind of annoying. But it is worth the sacrifice to have such a wonderfully functional smart device in my home. Tip: Make sure you install the correct Marshall app.
Overall, this is a buy. Definitely consider this model if you are looking for a smart speaker but also want high quality sound for your music, audio books, etc.

We returned it because the Alexa device we had, was much more usable than this one. We thought it would be a nice audio upgrade, which it was. But for the functionality we had with our regular Alexa device, this didn't match up. Drop in and other functions were not enabled.

Hello, thank you for your review and feedback. It is true, as a 3rd party Amazon Alexa speaker, the Acton II Voice with Alexa doesn't have the same full spectrum of features that the Amazon Alexa speakers have. Great to hear that you enjoyed the audio though.

The Marshall - Acton II Voice Wireless Speaker with Alexa is a very solid product. The sound is excellent, especially at higher volume settings. However, it does not reach a 'blast'-level of volume, which is fine for me, but may not be for others.
Setting up the unit for Alexa and bluetooth was not entirely painless. This was mainly due to the effort to make instructions 'simple' on the start-up guide and in the app. It tended to leave gaps in the process that you just have to figure out - which I did. This has been a trend with many products lately and I hope it changes to a more helpful approach soon.
My wife and I both love the retro look. That may differ for others, though our (adult) kids were drooling over it as soon as they saw it. It makes a nice addition to the 'decor' of our living room.
The Alexa implementation (once set up) has been flawless for us and we thoroughly enjoy using it.
Other than personal taste as to the Marshall brand, the only factor to consider is wether it best fits your core needs and goals for the price range. That, again, is a matter of personal preference.
For us, this is a great addition to our home.

The Acton II Voice Wireless Speaker with Amazon Alexa Voice Assistant is Marshall through and through, solid to the core. Equipped with a Far Field Microphone array, a 4" single driver that plays down to 50Hz & 2) tweeters that play to 20Khz. Amazing classic Marshall sound rocks out!
Virtually no distortion is heard up to 80% of full volume. Above that nearly deafening level, the high frequencies acquire a slightly raspy sound.
The cabinet size of the Acton II is perfect for most interior spaces, unlike the larger Stanmore, which offers pristine sound with an oversized cabinet.
The 4" driver is powered by a 25 Watt digital amp; each 0.75" tweeter is powered by a dedicated 8 Watt digital amp.
Dimensions: 10.4 x 6.3 x 5.9 (W x H x D-inches).
Weight: 6.6 pounds.
Inputs: Alexa + Bluetooth & 3.5mm aux port.
Onboard controls: Knobs for Volume, Bass and Treble adjustment - each illuminated by variable intensity red LED's, showing gradient level of each parameter. Classic Marshall look & feel!
The far field microphone is unbelievably sensitive, even with the volume cranked up to "Volume 7".
Possible Improvement? The iOS App is easy to set up, but will occasionally lack control. Thankfully, the onboard controls are 100% dependable & even when the iOS App did not respond, the volume, bass, midrange & treble controls on the Marshall made the desired adjustment instantly.
CONCLUSION: Marshall scored a "Perfect 10" with this speaker & I cannot recommend a single area for improvement. This is one Rocking Speaker with Alexa that means serious business. I highly recommend this speaker!

Big Sound, Classic Design

Marshall may be best known for being on the blaring end of an electric guitar from the music videos from the 70s and 80s, but more recently, they've started producing lifestyle products like headphones and speakers.
The Acton II VOICE is an interesting update to their previous Bluetooth speaker offerings by adding Amazon Alexa (Google Voice is a different model) which opens up another, more seamless method of music streaming as well as transforming the Acton II into another node for all of the other voice commands.
I personally love the Acton II as it looks like a classy piece of equipment that fits right into a nice living room, study, sunroom or deck with its vinyl housing and grilled Marshall speaker cover without looking like it just got beamed down from the mother ship or got rejected by the local laser light show. More info on weather/waterproof would be interesting, but its such a clean looking device with just a single cable to the wall.
As for sound, its got surprising wallop for such a small speaker. The bass is a bit ploddy rather than punchy but its still very good compared to other Alexa devices. It also has a 3.5mm input for a pair of cans as well as the ability to connect to your phone or other Bluetooth device to play tunes from another device.
Setup was simple, the most confusing part being choosing the right Marshall app which is the Marshall Voice (not multi-room) app. Then you detect devices from your phone, connect to your WiFi, enter your Alexa password and you are on your way. It even overrides other Alexa devices in the same room as it will play the music from the Acton II instead of the Echo Show in the same room.
Loving this speaker so far, I'm sure I'll enjoy it and its timeless good looks for another 50 years or so!

The build quality on this far surpasses any expectations that I had for the device. It works flawlessly over bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and the sound is stellar for the size! I can turn this all the way up and experience zero distortion, with crisp highs and surprising bass for such a small package. The sound from this fills my living room and it looks great with my decor. Totally worth every penny!

I've been cranking some tunes on this thing. It plays everything I throw at it with clear and detailed sound. The bass response is very tight and surprisingly deep. Definitely didn't expect the sound that comes from this to be so room filling. It connects quickly to bluetooth and stays connected with no issues. The design and look of the unit is very cool. It's modern and vinyage at the same time. I really like this bluetooth speaker. Definitely recommend it. Great product from Matshall.

Great Speaker

For the size of this speaker it fills any room I try it in with high quality sound. Has a good mix of bass and highs. And the build quality feels high end. On the top of the unit you will find three easy to use knobs Volume, Bass, Treble. Along with three buttons, The first one is a source to jump between Bluetooth/Auxiliary/Wi-Fi. Then you have a play/pause and lastly a mute button for the microphone.
Alexa does have a small delay when interacting with her. And you can not use all of her features with this third party speaker. So I took one star for that.
But as for the speaker it self I love the looks and sound.

Attractive wireless speaker--app needs some work

I was excited when offered the chance to test the Marshall - Acton II wireless speaker with Alexa---my kids love Alexa (I honestly think she’s like a third parent to them sometimes) and we’d wanted something like this for their playroom, so this was perfect!
The speaker is very sharp looking, and the size on this one doesn’t overwhelm the shelf. It fits nicely with the décor we have around it.
The set-up seemed simple enough—plug it in, download the app (of course) and follow the instructions. This part was, unfortunately, extremely frustrating. We have a great wi-fi signal where I had it—I tested it both through my phone and through a laptop….but I could NOT get it to connect. I tried the standard route several times but it was a no-go every time. I then tried the ‘alternate method’ and unfortunately it wasn’t very helpful. You get to a certain point and it tells you to go to your wi-fi settings, then once paired with the phone return to the Marshall app to finish installation….except when you return to the app the instructions on how to finish never come up—it just takes you straight to the home page! There was no way to even get back to the set up instructions. I finally ended up taking the speaker to where it was right next to the wi-fi router. That ended up working….so now I needed to update the firmware. Cool, no problem, except it timed out and couldn’t complete (“unknown error”) three times in a row. In total it took over an hour to get through the set-up phase. The app needs a LOT of work.
Through Bluetooth the sound is great (as would be expected from a Marshall product). The speaker puts out solid, clear sound, and the bass is very good for a speaker this size.
Once it’s connected Alexa is straightforward and can use the normal Alexa app to be controlled, as well as the voice commands. It fits right into a connected Alexa home, or as a single Alexa app. My kids love it (especially the games) so it really is a great fit in the play room.
You can customize quite a bit through the voice commands if you want to get that in depth—there is a huge selection of controls you can modify to get the sound right where you want it if you want to get that in-depth, but it sounds terrific right out of the box if you don’t.
If you are looking for a wireless speaker that fits in with décor and looks better on a shelf than most, you can’t go wrong with this…just be ready for some frustration during set-up. Hopefully my experience wasn’t the norm.

I love this speaker, let me get that out of the way.
This speaker sounds fantastic, playing all different types of music and it has no worries when it comes to details in certain songs and can easily handle the bass intensive music too. Its a very versatile speaker.
While this is a bluetooth speaker, it also connect via wifi making it easy to pair up with devices using the really good app. The app also lets you control the sound the way you like it..
The speaker is extremely well built and like all Marshall speakers it resembles the Marshall guitar amps. It looks great no matter where you place this thing. It has weight to it so its not something you`ll be carrying around, it also needs dedicated power so its not "Portable".
For something in your home or in your yard then this is fantastic. works great with Alexa and is one of the best devices in my house when it comes to audio.
I highly highly recommend
