I would start of by saying WOW I was impressed, this Martin Logan Motion 5.1 will not disappoint. The speakers arrived in a HUGE box, they were very well protected to sustain any damage during shipping transit. All the speakers were packed inside a soft cloth material bag something you expect from high end speakers such as this one. This is a 5.1 setup so in the box you get 4 Motion 2i (surround), 1 Motion 6i (center), a Dynamo 400 (Subwoofer) and of course manual documents. One thing that you don’t get in the box are the speaker wires so you need to get your own. The speakers itself are gorgeous with a gloss piano black finish around the structure and a matte satin finish for magnetic grill, to bad the sub does not carry the same gloss finish as the rest of the speakers instead just has a black finish. To fire up this speaker you will need A/V receiver, I hooked them up to my Marantz SR7011. Speakers can be connected via banana plugs or either bare wire as the biding post are push style and have banana jacks. I manually adjusted my A/V amp settings to 5.1 with small speakers and the crossover set 80hz for all of them including the center. I watched John Wick 3, A Star Born, and End Games all 4Ks, let me tell you I was very impressed especially with that center channel. My man cave setup is a 7.2.4 with DefTech Pro Cinemas 1000 and 2000 for center, now I am very inclined to replace them for this. The center channel actually blew me away of how impressive it sounds for its size. The voices were very clear and loud and it handle the mid range very well, my current center does not sound as crisp. The surround speaker also handles the sound very well too, even during stereo playback while listening to music they handle midrange sounds too well, they will not replace full range speakers but they sound good. The Sub has an internal amp rated at 75W -150 Peak, I connected it using LFE, it al also performed like a champ. The bass was deep clear not too overpowering the rest of the speakers making an even well blend bass. One thing I had to do was to adjust the Phase a little more than half way to get the sub to work don't know why but it worked. The Sub itself is big but not huge and it is not that heavy. Speakers can be used as a bookshelf or they can be wall mounted. Overall these speakers sound insanely well for their size again I was very impressed and I can just imagine how the next tier (4i/8i) would sound. If you are looking to setup your next 5.1 surround system these Martin Logans speakers will not disappoint you they look gorgeous and they sound great.

MartinLogan Audiophile Quality in 5.1 system

MartinLogan has made a name for its audiophile sound with remarkable details for movies and music. I have built many A/V systems, with more costly, and less costly speakers. While I have enjoyed these A/V setups, I am always looking to improve sound with accurate highs, punctuated bass and a solid middle section. MartinLogan is well known for their Ultra High End Electrostatic speakers and borrowed some of that incredible technology to create the Motion series. The MartinLogan 5.1 motion system with 3 ½” woofers, 1” folded tweeters and a powerful 8” subwoofer combine to make sound realistic. With the proper adjustments on my receiver, the MartinLogan system responded beautifully, creating the sound stage that brings movies and music to life. (I used a Coke can in the pictures so you can see the actual size of the speaker) • First I want to comment on the distinct lines and gloss piano black of all the speakers (minus the subwoofer). The MartinLogan speakers are really something to see. The form and function are just as amazing, as the sound they put out. Included is a black cloth to help keep the speakers clean and clear from dust, making them really shine. All of the speaker grills are magnetic (4 x 2i and 1 x 6i). This is a high end feature that connects the speaker grill to the actual speaker with little effort on my part. It is a nice to have a luxury piece like these for cleaning or overall looks. • There are 4 MartinLogan Motion 2i, two for the front and two for the surround. Each one has a 3 ½" woofer and a folded tweeter that measures about 1” x 1”. The woofer combined with the folded tweeter make lifelike sounds and work in unison so you only hear music or movies, not an individual speaker. I found that the LoganMartin overall sound is pretty remarkable. The weight of the MartinLogan 2i speaker is approximately 3.5 lbs and measures 10” H x 4.7” W 4.6” D. It will fit just about anywhere because of it small size and big sound. I used banana plugs to connect the speaker wire from my receiver to the Motion 2i speakers. I was able to hook up all the satellites in no time. Since there are black and red terminals, I marked the speaker cable to the black post with a black marker. It definitely saves setup time. The most unique feature I was impressed with is the push style posts. I pushed the terminal in, and put in the long front of the banana plug. Upon releasing the push post, it moves up and secures the connection! It only took me a matter of minutes to do the Motion 2i speakers and the center channel Motion 6i. • The MartinLogan center channel creates a unified sound when combined with the Motion 2i right and left speakers. The 6i (center channel) has two dedicated 3 1/2” woofers and a folded tweeter measuring about 1”x 1” in size. Although small, it reproducers dialog with great accuracy. I could make out every word that was said. The center channel speaker also helped pick up some sounds that the front speakers could not produce by themselves. This combination worked seamlessly. I connected the center channel with the push posts and banana plugs and setup was quick and simple. • The MartinLogan 2i and 6i can sit on a stand or positioned fixed on the wall. All the necessary hardware is included. You can even use the 2i upside to make the treble fire downwards. This is great because treble sounds are more direct and bass is more omni-directional. It is great to have an option for the wall, just in case you don’t have enough space on a shelf for these small form factor speakers. Also included are four slim rubber pads that stick to the bottom of the speakers. Because of the shape of the speakers, position the 4 slim rubber pads (20 in all) toward the edge of the bottom. In this way you will have more traction with the speakers standing upright. • The MartinLogan Dynamo 400 8” subwoofer has peak wattage of 150 (75 watts RMS), and an extremely high grade subwoofer that produces low undistorted bass. I connected the receiver from the sub connection using a sub cable to the Dynamo 400 using the LFE option. I believe this is how most people will set it up because it is the easiest way to get great thump with this connection. There is a crossover and a volume control on the back of the Dynamo 400. Just adjust the controls to what sounds good for your ears and room size. I put the 120Hz for the crossover and the volume at about half. This setting gave the best sound for my ears to hear. Another switch is the inversion option that provides a bass sound that is a little punchier when it hits. There is also an auto switch that turns the Dynamo 400 off when not using it and auto switch on when you do use it. • Now the Dynamo 400 is a downward firing sub. If you turn on the sub, the 8 inch speaker fires down into the carpet. The carpet will eat up the subwoofer’s sound. How do you remedy this? You should use a sub platform (basically a piece of wood) that sits under the subwoofer. In this set up with the sub platform, the subwoofer fires down with sound that is punchier and lower reflecting from the platform. • The weight comes in at 28 lbs (which is relatively light) and approximate dimensions for the sub are 15.2” H x17.5” W x13.7” D. For a sub that sounds seamless and coordinated with the other 5 Motion speakers make the most inclusive sound that I have heard. When I listen to the speakers it is really hard to tell where the sounds begins and ends between all of the speakers. The sound together allows you to hear an immersive experience from the surrounds, fronts, center and sub with amazing precision creating a sound stage! • Here are some of the music I listened to on the MartinLogan Motion 5.1 system: MUSIC - Caravan Palace (Electronic Swing), Rodrigo y Gabriela (acoustic guitar), Liam Gallagher (British Rock), Norah Jones (piano), Daft Punk (Electronic) (CD), Amy Winehouse (R&B) (CD) and the Rolling Stones (classic rock) (DVD). MOVIES - Spiderman Far From Home (Bluray), Misson Impossible Rogue Nation (4K) and Fallout (4K), Rush (Bluray), Jurassic Park (Bluray) and Hobbs & Shaw (Bluray). Overall my take on the MartinLogan Motion 3 1/2" 5.1 Speaker System is simply amazing. From start to finish hooking the system up was a breeze. With some tweaks here and there from my receiver the end production is really astounding. It was not a big deal to do this and the Motion system sounded even better to my ears. Great big sound from a small form factor and total immersion from whatever you choose to play: movies or music or both! I love the push posts for connections with banana plugs and the aesthetically pleasing look of the speakers. The beautiful speakers will accent any room and with the small size you can place them just about anywhere (even the walls). These incredible speakers come out as one sound that is really something you need to hear to understand. The MartinLogan Motion 3 ½” 5.1 system really does make whatever you are listening/watching evoke excitement, setting a sound presence that is really hard to beat.

    Impressive Speakers For Their Size

After having large floor standing surround sound speakers for 15 years I finally decided it was time to downsize, with a little prodding from my wife! My main concern with downsizing was that I wouldn’t get the same or similar sound stage and I would be disappointed. Enter the Martin Logan 5.1 channel speaker system. The box included wall mounts and thin rubber feet to attach to the speakers depending on how you decide to use them and I decided to just use pre-existing stands that I already had. I really liked the hard magnetic face protecting the speakers. It keeps our cats from picking at the cloth you find on the fronts of so many speakers today. I also liked that they were magnetic and easy to remove. The speakers are both gloss and matte black and can easily fit in with any décor. I read other reviews that spoke about how difficult it was to get the wires into the terminals on the back of the speakers and honestly it wasn’t a problem for me. The bare wires easily slid into the channels and terminals without difficulty and wouldn’t slide back out when I tried to pull on the wires. If you prefer you can also use banana clips instead of the bare wire. In no time the speakers were in place and ready for use. I turned on my entertainment system, which includes a Pioneer Elite receiver. I know this may be subjective, but I like speakers to perform evenly through the sound spectrum and I found the speakers to be tinny at first. I decided to run through my receivers MCACC setup to calibrate the speakers to the room to try and correct some of that. After about 5 minutes I was up and running and could really tell a difference in how the speakers performed. I found the highs and lows to be well represented, but I still found the mids to be lacking slightly, although not nearly as bad as before the calibration. It’s hard to gauge speakers based on cable TV because the audio and video signals get compressed so much so I ran through some Blu-Ray material. I think what impressed me the most about these speakers is their ability to relay clear speech. Using my last speakers as an example, I always found myself holding my remote so I could turn the volume up when there was speech and back down when there was action. I don’t have to do that with these speakers. Speech is so clear and understandable! I was amazed I didn’t have to play with the volume to accomplish it. I was also surprised at how much bass the 8” subwoofer was producing and found it more than adequate for my needs, especially when compared to my previous 10” subwoofer. The speakers easily surround you and put you in the middle of the sound field, and I have a large and open main floor. Given their small size I was impressed at the sound stage presented by this speaker system! I especially like that I no longer have to hold my remote in my hand to work the volume up and down when watching TV or a movie. I can just set the volume to my preferred level and leave it! My only con was that I found the mids to be slightly lacking and that’s the reason I took off a star. The mids are still there and if I could have only taken off a half star I would have. I just found the mids to be slightly underrepresented when compared to the high and low tones. If you’re on the fence you should go hear them in person, but if you can’t I don’t think you will be disappointed with this system. For their size they definitely pack a punch.

Best value. Best brand value. Top quality in terms of material and durability. Sound quality is just right for what it is. Could be slightly more powerful for its size as other smaller speakers have more projected spacial sound. But i love martin logans signature sound. Not overly bassy not plastic sounding. No hissing either

Picked this up during a sale and got an incredible deal on it. Speakers came shipped in a large box and were well protected. I set these up with a Sony 725W 5.2-Ch. receiver (STRDH590). Sound quality is amazing. We have this set up in a loft space that is not too large. Only complaint I have is the speakers only came with 2 wall mounts. I had to find a 3rd party seller for the mounts for the other 3 speakers.

These are outstanding speakers. We went from a Bose Lifestyle 535 II to a Denon AVR-X3700R with these speakers. It was like night and day. The Bose were weak whereas these were rich at all frequencies at least by our ears. The room is 12x18 ft. These were on a 50% off sale at Best Buy when we made the purchase about 3 weeks ago. We’re very happy.
