A beautiful game with a compelling story and complex story thats honesty more entertaining than the MCU version.

This is the best game I've played this year. It's very funny. I laughed a lot. If you are a fan of guardians of Galaxy you will love this game.

The Guardians of the Galaxy video game combines engaging gameplay, good characterization, and a lore-deep story o create a fun adventure game based on the Marvel comic/film characters. Players control Peter Quill AKA Star Lord as they go through different locales across different planets, space stations, etc in a linear, chapter based story. Gameplay bounces between exploring and combat; exploring of environments uses platforming and puzzle solving to make progress, and areas can be filled with items to find including “units” (money that can be used at specific story moments), currency for upgrading your character’s abilities, and costumes for the characters. Players will also give commands to other Guardians during exploration to help find secrets and progress forward. One downside to exploration is that players are encouraged to keep Star Lord’s visor up as it makes collectibles easier to spot, but it lessens the enjoyment of viewing the details/graphically beautiful environments. Combat requires a balance between controlling Star Lord, who has some melee attacks but largely uses his dual blasters (which gain elemental attacks later on with time-based ammo limits, and regular blaster shots that have a cool down if overused), and giving orders to other Guardians (the other Guardians characters have moves that you can order them to do that have specific effects in battle such as dealing increased damage, staggering enemies, preventing enemies to move, etc). One of the best aspects of this game includes the world-building and the story. While the world takes some design cues from the MCU films, much of the character design and lore have been adapted from the comic books and include some great deep-cuts from the source material. The Guardians themselves are also deeper than their film counterparts, as throughout the game players can engage in conversations with the other Guardians to learn more about their backstories and their habits/hobbies. The story plays out like a film or comic book, progressing in a linear fashion through numerical chapters. Throughout the game players will be given decisions that will shape the experience of the game, with choices often providing unique dialogue between characters, different character dynamics, and change the outcome of certain in-game scenes. One problem of this is that players may feel compelled to use an online guide in order to pick the “best” choices, as some things can be locked away/missed if the wrong dialogue choices are made. The linear nature of the story can also be a bit annoying as you can’t simply revisit a location to get missed collectibles and instead have to replay the chapter from the home menu. Overall, a fun and special adventure along with the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s a game with a good story, a world full of deep lore, and well-written characterizations beyond what the movies have portrayed. I would recommend playing this game.

This is one of the more fun (and funny) games I've played in a while. The banter and the classic rock aesthetic are carried over from the MCU movies, while the characters themselves get fresh designs and voice actors. I honestly like Star-Lord and Gamora more in this game than I ever did in the movies. Everyone's personality is on full display with running chatter that happens between and (especially) during missions. It feels like an opportunity to hang out with the characters first, and an action game second, in a very good way. Combat is similar to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, whether you like that style or not. Unfortunately it doesn't run all that well on my standard PS4. Load times are VERY long at startup and upon dying. Textures don't always load properly, a couple times the sound has cut out mid-dialogue, and I recently clipped out of bounds and had no choice but to wait for an enemy to kill me. I doubt it will be patched at this point, but as-is, this is still a very enjoyable romp for the discounted price point. I'm sure it's better on PS5 if you have one.

Better than I expected! With a unique story, awesome graphics, and smooth action/tactical squad based gameplay. I have really enjoyed it so far and it is full of all of the Guardians humor that you see in the movies and comics. My only complaint would be that you can't play each character individually, but can only command them to do things as you are the captain. Overall,though, it's definitely worth your time, especially for all those Marvel universe fans out there.

I was surprised when this game was announced, and I was also worried mainly because of other Marvel game Square Enix made. But my worries were put to rest when I saw it wasn't a live service game. I'm currently half way through the story and I like the fact that my seemingly small chooses have big effects later in the story. The main gameplay is nice and solid, except for the ship flying sections witch feel a little weak. There's also plenty of collectibles in every nook and cranny as you play, witch encourage exploration. The characters feel well written and feel quite alive, and they even tease you whenever you seem to be going down the wrong path.

Playing this, the story, combat, humor, and graphics are insane. However, I ran into a few flaws... While it has auto-save, it makes saving manually useless. Meaning that you have to continue FURTHER AWAY than you saved before. Then, there is a glitch in Chapter 15 where you are simply stuck and can't escape. There are times in combat where you can barely tell where you're shooting next. For every defeat, you have to wait 40 seconds.

Easily one of the best Marvel games, sitting just behind the Spider-Man games. Played it almost nonstop. Fun game play, great story, and even better voice acting. It was a great choice to make this independent of the MCU in terms of design and story. Definitely in my top 10 games of the year.

Great story and voice acting. The action is pretty good throughout the game and I'm glad it isn't anything related to Marvel's Avengers. I think the game deserves a sequel and I'd definitely play through it again someday.

This is an awesome game. I was worried because Square Enix was the publisher behind this game, and they released last year's Avengers which was massively disappointing, but this game is much different from that. First notable change is that this is an entirely singleplayer game, with no microtransactions. Another thing to note, you only play as Star-Lord in this game unlike Marvel's Avengers where there were multiple Avengers you could play as, but none that were really that fun to play as. Unlike that game, Star-Lord is a well-fleshed character that is really fun to play as, and command the other Guardians with and personally I prefer to have one well-fleshed out main character, than to have multiple characters that are all pretty boring to play as. Seriously, get this game. It's awesome!

im going to start this review off with saying that i have played avengers (for anyone that doesnt know, there was an avengers game made by the same people who made this, square enix, and it was an utter flop. almost couldnt me worse due to mistake after mistake made with that game) and i wasnt a big fan but i had heard great things about guardians so when i saw it on sale i though why not. i must say that they nailed it! the guardians are amazing, the banter is great, gameplay is awesome, love the puzzles and it does a good job with visuals/graphics. its not quite james gunn level but it does an amazing job coming close enough that you care about them just as much as the movies. its more of a comic book take on the characters but it still does amazing with that and thats not a dig on the comics, i havent read many comics but guardians one used to be ones i would pass on but now after this game i wanna read them all! you can only play as star lord but you can use abilities from the other guardians and its just as fun, the only nitpik i would have would be that they add multiplayer so that me and 4 other friends can be the guardians all in one lobby but that is not i big problem with the game since it is a single player game and not a multiplayer game. all in all a great game that'll take you across the galaxy on an amazing ride

This game is fun to play, challenging enough to be interesting, and has a fantastic soundtrack.

This game is amazingly good. It is scripted well and so fun and engaging. I thought it was going to be mediocre like The Avengers and it wasn’t. It’s really good. If you’re into linear games with AAA quality that plays like a movie but also engaging with dialogue choices and fun battles with slight puzzles, this game is a definite grab.

If you like guardians of the galaxy, I recommend it.

A good comic book game with a great storyline and characters. Combat works and is fine throughout the adventure.
