Device works perfectly. I initially purchased a different brand which did not save my configuration changes when power was removed nor did the USB port work. I then purchased this one which was $10 cheaper and everything works just fine. Simply rename the channels how you want and that's all the configuration you have to do. Makes watching TV much easier on televisions with built in tuners. No need to rent a cable box.

Purchased this model after being disappointed by another brands failure. Their model died 95 days after purchase and they only refund or repair before 90 days. This model works so much better and is so easy to install and use.

This box does exactly two things. It's a basic tuner and a very dumb VCR that only records over the air channels. The good: * Easy to set up. * Can output signal to TV via coax cable, HDMI, or RCA plugs. * Does not seem to degrade the incoming signal from the antenna at all. * Lets you create a favorites list (very handy if you receive dozens of channels and only want to watch few of them), * You can play .avi, mpg, and several other types digital media by simply plugging in an external usb drive. Not so good: * Learning how to use it. The manual is almost incomprehensible. Fortunately, there are some helpful Youtube videos out there. * No internet connectivity. You cannot integrate the signal with Sling, Fire TV, etc. If you use one of those you will need to use a separate input to your TV or an HDMI signal splitter. * This is not a Tivo kind of recorder. You can't have it record a particular program whenever it comes on. You set up channel, start/stop times and how often (once, daily, weekly) and that's what you get. You can, however adjust times (to allow for possible extra innings in a baseball game, for example). * The recorded program file names are made up from channel, date, and time of the recording, not the name of the program. But you can rename the files using the remote (slow) or by connecting the external drive to a PC (or Mac, I assume). * Forget about programming a universal remote to work with this device. That said, I have no regrets buying this box

I cut cable to save money. I miss not being able to record some of my favorite over the air shows. This product does that. Additionally, the picture quality is excellent. I love that I do not have to turn this unit on just to watch TV. I love that the receiver picked up all my local channels, plus some that my TV was not picking up. The price was a fraction of what the A to Z retailer wants for their product. I bought and returned the A to Z's version of this product. It only picked up 11 channels of the 65 channels that this product picked up. The picture quality of this product is by far superior to the A to Z's product. Why only 4 stars and not 5? The menu interface is a bit awkward and not intuitive. Once I figured it out it works and does what I want it to do. Again, not perfect. Recording shows works, but if you want to record a show Monday through Friday you can only do it daily so you will have some shows recording that you do not want recording on Saturday and Sunday (I have not had it a week yes so I assume it will record everyday in the daily setting). I had an old 500 gb hard drive laying around that I hooked up to this unit and it works just fine. The playback of recorded shows is as high quality as watching it live. This aspect of the product is what impresses me most. Pros: Inexpensive. High picture quality. High picture quality on recorded shows. Not needed to watch live TV so you can use your TV remote to watch TV. Cons: Remote control is klunky, you really need to press the buttons hard to get it to work. The menu interface is not intuitive and there is a learning curve to recording and playback. You must supply your own hard drive to enable recording.

MediaSonic / Homeworx Over the Air Digital Video Recorder / Full HD 1080P / Model HW-150VR. This comes with Red, White, and Yellow RCA pin type cord. I'm using this with a Samsung TV 60" Model UN60JU7090FXZA, 4K, 4K upconvert, 3D Ready, Digital TV. I received this for Christmas 2018. It was on sale for $29.99. I have an outside over the air antenna rated with a range of 60 miles. So it's coaxial cable from antenna to a signal splitter. Two coaxial cables from the signal splitter, one to TV and one to MediaSonic. I had to buy a HDMI cable ($6.99 Best Buy 6' 4K Ultra HD HDMI Cable) which attaches to the back of the Mediasonic to TV HDMI In. So you will may NEED Coaxial Cable(s) and or HDMI Cable, and a Jump / Thumb Drive or External Hard Drive. I had a 64 GB Jump Drive. I LOVE this DVR. It's a little quirky, but for $30 it's well worth it. The TV Guide comes from the broadcasting station. So you may get a tv listing for one day or none at all. If it's on your guide, you just press EPG on remote, go up and down the tv guide and highlight the program you wish to record then press OK, then OK again to confirm your recording. If it's not on your tv guide, press Timer, 1 (add event), select channel, date, start and end time, then OK. To play recording press Menu, scroll right to USB, arrow down to Multimedia, Ok, scroll right to PVR, press OK, press OK on HBPVR folder, scroll up and down to select recorded program and press OK to select, press OK StartResume (this is a popup menu that I alway over look), press HOLD for full screen. It has fast forward and reverse to run through commercials. To stop watching your recording, press EXIT (you have to press Exit 3 times to get back to the beginning.) NOTE SOUND = If the sound seems low you will need to raise the volume on the MediaSonic Remote then raise or lower the volume on your TV Remote or Sound Remote. I know it sound like allot, but all of the instructions are on the screen. I've been recording The Big Bang Theory and the HD picture is fantastic...!!! I bought a 2nd one for $29.99 for a spare or present. That's it. I hope this helps some one..!

I bought this to cut my cable cost and use with a Mohu indoor HD antenna. I get around 44 channels and am about 30 miles from signal. I can record on my old VCR using either OTA setting and channel 3 cable input or std. RCA video output. This unit also has both HDMI (1080p) and Component (up to 1080i) outputs for HD tv and USB port for recording. Most channels come in strong, but a few need to rescan at times due to some weather interference. Can be programed for recording daily/weekly shows. Shorter schedule list than cable, but works for me. Good value, good std. and beautiful HD picture.

It took me some time to understand that this unit does not have a calendar function so you cannot set a time and date to record a program. One must use the EPG that each TV station broadcasts in order to record a program. In this area, stations don't list programs more than 12 hours in advance. What I do is bring up the EPG on the station that carries the program. Select the program from the EPG, then "Book" it which will bring up a menu as to whether you want to record it "once," "weekly" or "daily"-there is no M-F option. I just turn it off after the last program is recorded on Friday. I turn it back on Monday and put it on "standby" then it records all the programs for the upcoming week that were "booked" last week IF you selected weekly or daily recording. That is how I record my wife's soap opera and evening weekly shows. It works just great once you know that the unit records from the time and date on an EPG provided on each station, and not the way you programmed your old VCR from a published grid in a TV Guide. This unit gets its time from the station itself, so if that is not correct than your program will not be recorded at the right time either or just delayed a minute or two so your recorded program may not be begin at the start of your show. The recordings I've made are the same quality as that broadcast. If it's high def the recording will be high def too. There is probably an option somewhere that you can choose to record at some other lower definition to save space on your external USB 2.1 thumb drive (64gb max) or to a USB external HDD (2TB max) for more room for movies or broadcast sports. Once you get used to its "quirks" it makes a fine OTA recorder for us folks who never have had cable TV and just used an outdoor TV antenna all of our lives. It MAY record from non-scrambled cable TV, but not ever having cable I can't vouch for that.

The unit works as it is supposed to although the instructuons are unclear and incomplete. Further directions must be obtained in posts by users on forums about the product. For example, I didn't find anything in the directions about what size flash drives could be used for recording video. I was able to record right away onto an 7gb flash drive but a 64 gb one would not work until a user commented on how a flash drive needed to be formatted, then I discovered a format function in a menu for the unit, clicked on it, now it works ok. Yet, sometimes the unit gets hung and must be rebooted for it to be able to work. Then it seems to do what it is designed to do adequately.

Now that I have used the Mediasonic HW150PVR every day for a month, I decided to do a review. I needed a digital to analog TV converter box as I was getting rid of one of my monthly rental fee cable boxes and wanted to try just going with an antenna connected to non-digital analog 14” TV sitting on small Lazy Susan stand. The analog TV has much better audio sound than any of my small screen LCD TV and I did not have room for a soundbar. Also most good small LCD TVs no longer have a pedestal base but instead have feet that are too far apart for confined spaces. I was going to buy the least expensive unit I could find new but those had limited output jacks so for $10 more I opted to buy this unit on sale which had Component outputs as well as HDMI and Composite. This unit can also record programs to a USB stick so that may be useful as well. Unit was easy to set up and works fine. After getting use to the remote I have no complaints with that either but some of the operations may be confusing to some. I did not buy unit to record anything but I did try that feature out by recording a 1 hour TV program onto a USB 3.0 stick which played back with no issues whatsoever on my desktop computer. Picture quality is very good on analog TV. I did not try it on an HD TV using HDMI.

I wanted something I could program to record on - this works with a hard-drive or a flash drive. The remote control is not at all intuitive (I have to have a light on to see where the buttons are and what they do), but it works just fine. My old converter box got better reception, but had no way to dvr....

Mediasonic Digital to Analog TV Converter

My TV set-up is old school: rabbit ears attached to an old, tube-type Toshiba TV, with ROKU bringing in Netflix etc, from our router. For broadcast TV viewing, I purchased the MediaSonic Digital to Analog converter as a replacement for a Channel Master device that after many years just stopped working. The MediaSonic device is a definite improvement over the Channel Master: more stations are available; and much less playing with the rabbit ears when moving from one channel to another. The only "negative" has been that I lost the ability to change the sound level using my controller. "Mute" works still but its increase/decrease toggles stopped functioning in the first week. I should look at the manual again, of course

This unit performs as advertised. Easy to use, fun to use because I got an older TV to perform as a VCR/DVD recorder. It also tunes in digital television channels for free. If you have Windows 7 or above you can download VLC PLAYER and view the files you save on a USB drive, on your desktop.

This is a great converter box for those with older TVs that want to use a digital signal (if you have an older TV that you essentially used as a monitor and now actually want to input airwaves into it). It records and acts as a DVR and records to an external memory stick. No, it doesn't magically produce MPEGs/AVIs/MP4's for you. Instead it saves them in its proprietary format to play back through the horrible interface, so there's that. For the price it is a good buy, almost a.... best buy. *puts pinky up to lips* I'd recommend it especially if you just wat to watch local TV and perhaps waiting for the youtube video to come out to find out if there's a tornado in your area doesn't work for you. Watching local news is a trip if you haven't seen it in a while. The resolution is amazing (if you're used to analog TV), but this can't do anything about the cheesy newscasters.

I bought this to record OTA shows I like but miss. Me TV has the 3 Stooges. Now I can see them. I noticed that once I hooked up the device with the HDMI cable to my Vizio tv the pictures and channel strength improved and I am using a cheap antenna. I plan to add one to my RV with a digital antenna as RV parks have poor reception in most OTA channels and one in my den. Easy to install but use the HDMI cable if you can. The better the connection the less loss of signal. Go to channel search and the device will bring up your strong channels and remember them. Use the remote to do functions such as channel surfing, EPG for program info and to set recording times and location with appropriate time zones.

Bought this as I'm aiming to cut the cord. Needed something that could also record show and was pleased it could do it on a thumb drive. Set was fairly simple and was up and running in 15 minutes. Programming recording is fairly simplp. Only drawbacks so far is lip-sync issues on some channels and the icons on the timer programming and PVR screens are difficult to read so not giving it a 5 rating. Used a San Disk 64GB thumb drive to record and playback is fine on two different laptops. I should mention I had to download a MPEG2 extender app from the app store to get it to play on aforementioned laptops.

When my cable co went all digital, an old analog TV became unusable even for local TV stations. So this converter did the trick to give an obsolete TV a little more life in my basement workshop. The converter was easy to set up and worked well with an old rabbit ear antenna that I had laying around. A good solution for my needs.

I purchased this device to convert coaxial from a HDTV antenna to HDMI. After cutting the cord, i didn't want to open up walls to run coaxial to a TV. The DVR feature was a plus but isn't really that great since it's difficult to use. A Tivo would be far better but you're paying a lot for that box as well as a monthly subscription. My only real knock on this device is that the remote function is poor. I'm not sure what technology it's using but most IR remotes are pretty forgiving. You have to point this thing directly at the box or the signal isn't received.
