Customers are saying

Customers value the BackPacker Air 59" Tripod's lightweight and compact design, making it easy to carry and use in various settings. They also appreciate its versatility and ease of use, particularly for travel and street photography. However, some customers express concerns about its stability, especially when using heavier equipment, and the leg locks' reliability. Improvements to the tripod's sturdiness and locking mechanisms would enhance the overall user experience.

    Tripod legs don’t lock firmly

Pros: This tripod is compact, lightweight, can carry a load of about 7lb (e.g. Nikon D800 + 70-300mm lens) on a small ball head and plate. It also comes in a variety of fun colors, has a center column that doubles as a selfie stick, a Bluetooth remote for taking selfies on your smartphone, and a folding spring-loaded adapter to securely hold the phone for selfies. Con: The 5-section telescoping tripod legs lock by twisting, and very easily unlock/untwist when a camera and lens are mounted. This is especially true when extending the tripod to its full height (all 5 sections open). This defeats the purpose of having a tripod if it is prone to moving at inopportune times e.g. during long exposures or when using the timer. For me, it effectively makes this tripod cute for selfies but otherwise not fit for purpose, hence the two stars.

Where to start. I didn't want to spend this much on a tripod but looking at other prices for tripods this seemed the most reasonable for the size and sturdiness, But I am happy with this purchase. This stand is very versatile, sturdy, easy to use and light weight. It took a little bit of playing around with it to understand how all the mechanisms work but after the initial set up we really enjoy the ease-of-use and how well this works for our intended use in our setup. Being able to adjust the legs in multiple positions increases or decreases the footprint of the stand itself also with being able to extend each leg individually with a twist lock mechanism makes it easy to use and change on the fly. The ball hinge lock where the camera sits is fantastic I would prefer a wing nut type of lock for the joint lock but the knob on the tripod still works very well. The shoe that comes with the stand makes removing the camera very fast and simple.

    Great Lightweight tripod for Video

I bought this specifically to film action videos of mountain biking. The tripod is light and compact enough to pack in and out, and offers way more versatility than some of the alternatives. My only critique (and reason for not giving this a 5) is that the bubble level is covered by the camera mount. In softer conditions, it's preferable to level the camera once everything is all set up. I remedied this by gluing carpenter level bulb replacements into a GoPro frame.

    Best Travel Tripod...with a Twist.

This is a wonderful, compact and lightweight tripod of you are a photographer on the go. It folds up nicely and weighs very little which makes it great to throw in your backpack. I use it with an SLR and it holds the weight wonderfully. Want to attach your phone instead? It comes with a universal clip and bluetooth remote for remote triggering your pictures. You can even remove the center column and use it as a selfie stick. The only downside is the twist-lock legs don't always stay fully locked, so make sure you give them a good turn to lock them in place. Otherwise, this is perfect and portable and great for many photographic adventures.

The Tripod worked great for my Nikon D7100 with a heavy 24-70mm packs in very small and comes with a carrying bag. although fully extended it does wobble a bit but at around 50 inches it can handle my 5lbs set up. the set up takes less than 2 mins. in conclusion this is perfect for street photography. or traveling and excels with Lighter Mirrorless cameras but can handle a dslr with a light to moderate lensa attached

Bought this tripod because of the versatility and compactness of it. ( and the cool color). When I put my new camera and telephoto lense on it, it was very tippy. You need a weighted bag or something on your camera bag to attach and weight the tripod down. It has a smaller footprint than other tripods, the legs were hard to lock in place. Had a couple of times when one leg would start to collapse. I returned this because it did not for work for what I was planning.

I needed a small, lightweight tripod for a several-month trip through Europe. It's not tall enough to reach eye level so there's going to be a little crouching while using this. I wouldn't trust raising the tripod to its maximum height either since it gets a little wobbly and unstable. The legs can be extended/retracted pretty quickly with a twist. Just wished the ball head could pan for panoramas and was a little more substantial since it creeps down with a bigger body/lens mounted on it, but I guess it's a trade-off for the lightweight design.

This tripod is easy to carry and once you get figure out a system to lock the legs it is very easy to setup. The paint fades out in constant use for about 2 weeks but it still work great. A bit pricey but about $70 less than carbon fiber.

I have had my fair share of mid-range tripods in my day most of which were Sunpak. This is a very high quality tripod. It has many options and is extremely versatile. It folds to a very totable size and even includes a carry case with a strap. I think the higher price equates to the quality and functionality of this tripod. This might be the last tripod I ever need.

I was drawn to this product because of it's travel size breakdown and weight, but it was ridiculously frustrating to setup, keep consistent with the stability and truly utilize all its marketed perks. I'm returning it. It is not stable enough, too flimsy, the bright blue was distracting from the preferred black when used in staging areas.

    Lightweight but not sturdy enough

This is definitely lightweight and easy to carry when backpacking, but it is not sturdy enough for me to feel comfortable leaving my expensive camera equipment attached to it. The legs do not stay in place or latched when moving the centerpiece. I could see this being a good option for point and shoot cameras, and the selfie-stick is a nice feature, but ultimately this did not meet my needs.

I really love this thing. It's small and capable and most of all very cute. Everytime I take this out in public I see all kinds of others ugly plastic monstrosities and then I pull this thing out and the others are put to shame. Go buy one.

This is a great little tripod and held my full frame Nikon D750 with 24mm lens no problem. The ball head is a bit finicky to swivel, but pretty strong little guy.

Not very stable with my DLSR. Good for smaller cameras and phones though. Locks could be better in legs.

I purchased for a trip to Europe where I wanted a lightweight tripod that was sturdy enough for my DSLR camera. The pros: It is fairly lightweight and fit in the water bottle spot in my backpack. The tripod materials seem pretty sturdy compared to a lot of the other travel tripods I looked at. Where it lacks: the legs are a twist lock design and often loosen after setting up. I always check multiple times the legs are fully tightened and secure before putting my camera on it, but even so, they start to slide when I add the camera. So frustrating and time consuming!! It makes me nervous my camera may end up on the ground, so I feel like I have to constantly spot it. I also wish the plate was a quick release- it can be a bit if a pain to get the piece in there securely. That's just a little time consuming though. It does come with a phone adapter, and I do find it works well with that, it's just not what I purchased it for. My guess is it is probably fine with super lightweight cameras, perhaps even a lighterweight dslr, but I know my camera is well under the 8.8 lbs it says it is good up to, and it STRUGGLES. I would return if I could, and will have to look for something else for the next trip.

The positive is the size and weight for travel and hiking. The negative, I disliked the twist locking legs, way to many sections that always seemed to slip and not lock properly to hold up my camera. I ended up returning this item.
