The Oculus Quest: Holy grail of fitness and fun

I can't recommend the Quest enough! This device will change your life! Seriously. Before reading this review, understand that I am not comparing it to other headsets on the market. This review is evaluating the Quest for what it is meant to be... The Quest is a casual VR headset. It is not intended to be compared to $700+ VR headsets or powerful gaming computers. I think of the Quest as the Nintendo Switch of VR headsets. It's perfect for doing what it has been designed to do. I play every night. I'm 45 and I have lost over 20 pounds since I purchased my first Quest three months ago. When the Quest 2 came out, I bought it on release day. I purchased the 256GB model because I am interested creating 3D video and storing media on it permanently. However, if I was just using it for games, I would have only purchased the 64GB version. The largest game is 5GB (The new Star Wars game) but most are well under 2GB. Like a smartphone app, once you purchase a game or app, you own it and can uninstall and re-install it as often as you'd like. The setup is easy. VR games are something that you have to experience to appreciate and the Occulus Quest is the perfect device for introducing yourself or anyone else to the possibilities of VR. I believe that the Quest's strengths are in social VR experiences, fitness, and casual gaming. If you are looking to play flight simulators, AAA games, or graphic-intensive gaming, the Quest is the wrong device and you will need to invest at least $700 in the headset, not to mention a $1500+ gaming computer to connect it to. The Quest is an all-in-one device, although you can also connect it to a PC and use it to play the fancy stuff too. There are only a few negatives: 1. The construction is not excellent. VR headsets are not intended for anyone under 13, so this Quest expects the user to take care of the device. It's sturdy enough to withstand anything the average adult might use it for, but I wouldn't trust it to hold up to a birthday party of 10-year-olds. 2. The screen contrast isn't as nice as most cell phones. The blacks are more of a dark gray. However, the resolution is Amazing and it will only get better as Oculus unlocks some of the more advanced features that are currently disabled to make the headset compatible with the previous generation. 3. The game/app library is somewhat limited. However, it is continuously expanding and there are also ways to sideload games that aren't in the official Oculus library. This is a nerd thing, but it's not difficult for anyone who is even slightly comfortable tweaking with the settings of their gadgets. The best of the Oculus Quest: 1. This headset is worth every penny! If you've never played games in VR, it will change your life. If you are a heavy VR user, you will love the ability to play without being tethered to your computer by a cable. 2. Welcome to the community. There are Oculus users all over the world and you will quickly discover that they are eager to help others learn the tips and tricks of the "culture." 3. You will get in better shape. Unless you already get your heart rate over 120 at least once a day and stretch regularly, you will see changes in your physical fitness. Finding games that don't require above average physical activity is difficult. I actually bought extra foam mask inserts from Oculus because I don't like swapping sweat with the people I show it to. If you buy any extras for the Oculus 2, I recommend buying third-party accessories. The extra strap, Link cable, and case made by Oculus are vastly inferior to the similar priced (or in many cases lower-priced) third-party alternatives.

We bought the quest 2 for our daughter’s 9th birthday after many many research. We opted for the quest 2 since based on others reviews, there isn’t much of a difference from the new quest and plus for the price it was not bad at all. We had never tried one for ourselves before so we weren’t sure how difficult it would be to set up but by watching videos on YouTube, the process was fairly easy and quick. As someone that had never tried and oculus before , I have to say that I was very impressed and completely loved it. While I haven’t played much on it I have gone on YouTube VR to visit places and it’s amazing! It literally makes you feel like you are right there in person. You can also watch Netflix on it amongst other things which is super cool. As to my 9 year old, she loves it but does complain of a headache often after using it for a bit. Sometimes she can go 1 hour without complain and other times she won’t last on it. My 13 year old also plays it and she enjoys it and has no complaints about it. We also got the oculus quest elite strap which is a hugeee plus because the original strap that comes with it is not comfortable at all, especially if little ones will be playing with it. I will have to say though that the oculus 2 is a bit on the heavy side and feels a bit heavy on the face so it can be uncomfortable sometimes.

The OCULUS QUEST 2 is just insane. I have spent hours on it awaiting the extra battery pack and strap by oculus to come in tomorrow, my battery ran down during an event. So make sure you get the Extra Battery Strap you won't regret it. I bought the OCULUS QUEST 1 & it amazed me so much then suddenly a month later they release Oculus Quest 2 so I had to buy it. I could not resist. This machine keeps me in V.R. for hours without even realizing it. If you don't have VR yet the OCULUS QUEST 2 is the only way to go. I went with the 256 GB because I know I download a lot of apps. I am proud to be the first review on Best Buy. This is a game changer and you won't be sorry. The packaging was super nice. Think I will do a video review on social media as well. I uploaded a few pictures of both oculus quest 1 & 2. I was really excited to see the WHITE VERSION in OCULUS QUEST 2. I love having both colors Oculus Quest 1 is black. Best Buy is an awesome store and I always buy Geek Squad Protection on everything I purchase.

As a older gamer I was really looking forward to being able to use and play with VR, now that I have I will tell you all it’s by far so much fun, it really is like stepping into another world !! I did take a few tries until I got comfortable and stopped feeling dizzy and motion ( cyber sickness ) but I did some research and found tips to help and found out that almost everyone experiences this in some fashion but it’s nothing that is a negative, more of a FYI. I have played games such as Ghosts Of Tabor, Creed Rise to Glory, Premium bowling, NFL Pro Era, Zero Caliber and War Planes Battle over the Pacific. This headset makes these games so incredibly fun I can’t stress enough if you’re a hardcore gamer or just a casual gamer this is perfect and amazingly fun! 10/10

I have been a fan of VR for years. Started with the Samsung GearVR, that I could no longer use because Samsung phones that I had upgraded to no longer support Samsung's own product. I have been using a PSVR since then, and it is so limited on what you can do with it. If PlayStation doesn't support it, you can't do it. I saw the Quest 2 was out, didn't really know that much about it, but read a few reviews and thought I'd try it. As soon as I got it, I was amazing. It is so much better then PSVR, and it works similar to the old GEARVR; but so much has been improved with Oculus since I last used that system. This is a stand alone VR, but after a few days of having it I really wanted to see what it would do connected to a Gaming Computer. I ordered a HP Gaming Laptop from Best Buy; with specs and a video card that would support the Quest 2 Oculus Link and ordered "official" link cable to ensure everything worked. Once I had the new Gaming Laptop set up and connected to the Quest 2 I was even more amazed at what I could do now. It was great as a stand-alone VR System, hooked up to the link cable it now became a PCVR system, with the computer running most of the hard working in processing. With the pandemic we have been stuck in the house so much, but I am getting to get out of my house in VR, and it seems so real. I will spend hours in Google Earth VR, that app is amazing. I can go into ChatVR and be talking to a crazy avatar of a real person, I can play a 1st person shoot that feels like I am really in the game; the Quest 2 is making the lockdowns and staying home so much more bearable. Some tips if you are looking at one. Get the Elite Strap when you buy it. I never even tried to elastic ones that came with it, but I have never heard anyone say they work well. I purchased the 256 GB version, it is nice to have the storage when it is being used as stand-alone unit; but if you plan on using it with Oculus link most of the time you may consider going with the 64GB version and saving $100. There are lots of accessories out there, and I have probably spent hundreds of dollars adding things to use with it; but it is a great product right out of the box. Download Steam and run SteamVR's test program to make sure your PC/Laptop will support VR. I purchased my HP Gaming Laptop from Best Buy since the specs matched what Oculus said would work, tested it as soon as I got it (so I could return it if it was up to speed) and it tested great. I get some lagging, but I have a RAM upgrade on backorder, that will max out my RAM; that will fix everything. I tested my non-gaming Laptop that I already had, and SteamVR laughed at me (it does not have a gaming video card); so may sure your computer will support it if you want to use it with the link. If you use the link cable, you are not stuck using just the content from Oculus, you can sideload games and app and use SteamVR to use their content as well.

I will say I bought this on impulse and boredom because they didn't have any PS5's but it was a purchase I don't regret. I think I have had every game system that has come out throughout the years but this VR system takes gaming and entertainment to a whole different level. My first game was Real VR Fishing and I was in awe with the realism of this game. I spent 2 hours and 15 minutes playing this game when I downloaded it. My only issue is the strap that came with it. I was getting headaches after about the second day but decided to buy a new headstrap from Amazon and let me tell you...…What a big difference!!! It feels more secure and not so heavy on my face. I also bought a new blue silicone cover mask for sanitary reasons.

Definitely fun and fully immersive. Does take sometime to get use to.. can make you nauseous in the beginning. Just make sure you do some research on how to get the most out of your Quest 2. And plan on buying accessories. I ended up getting a battery headset a week after purchase since you only get 1 1/2 - 2 hours from this device before it whines needing recharging. I’m a big guy at 6ft 4 and the strap that comes with it fit my big noggin. The controllers felt a bit small so I got extended controller grip silicone cases. Picture is good in game upset I didn’t just wait for the quest 3 but I was impatient. Last I put a silicone case on the front of the headset to try and protect it and it felt to run hot so I do recommended. I ended up putting a clear faceplate on the front instead

Pros: less expensive than other brands. Can connect to PC with store bought usb charging cables, at slower data speeds. Recommend the Brand name Link cable (the more expensive one) for ease of setup and gaming. Long story short, i had a fun time trying to make a cheaper $20 one work. -_- Managed, but i had to plug in like 4 different things, involving a usb hub and 2 additional power outlets. Does not require Facebook account as of 2022. Cons: the eye lenses replicate your real eye vision. Glasses do not feel the best when worn inside the headset. Also the lenses in Quest 2 have this strange lensing effect. Inside the headset, it can get warm. Find an addon that includes small fans for venting your face, if that bothers you. It does for me. Heavy on the face, if thats a bother for you. It is for me. If you cant stand having a light brick attached to your face, look for lighter alternatives, even if they're more expensive. Motion sickness can be a thing, double for some games. Recommend the elite strap thing that evens out and redistributes weight and pressure on your head. For additional weight balancing, use some velcro cable ties and strap a hand sized power bank to the back. Or get the Elite strap that includes a built in power bank. Quest 3 is said to be thinner and lighter, with different lenses. Consider waiting for that, like i should have, because I'm sensitive to feel and touch. But, I'd say the Quest 2 was ok for its time. No issues with build quality or software. And hopefully it leaves behind a strong lesson learned: dont force a link between social media and VR. Offer it, but don't force it. Vr can be more intimate with its connection to people. Psychological reasons, as well as societal reasons, more than what i can put into words. But if you consider how people may interact face to face, compared to a computer screen, you might get an idea.

Using a headset goes off of personal preference, but overall I’ve got to say I prefer this headset. It’s easy to use and compatible with almost everything. I’ve had mine since July 2022 I have yet to replace my headset after getting my first one, But I’m really leaving towards another quest 2, Yet after three years, it’s still working good and I hardly Ever have stick drift. here’s a picture of it now of course you always have to have your covers I haven’t replaced my controllers. I still have the original ones that came with the headset.

The Meta Quest 2 is a virtual reality headset that offers an immersive and interactive experience for gaming, entertainment, and productivity. It features a high-resolution display and powerful processing capabilities that make it one of the best VR headsets on the market. The design of the Meta Quest 2 is sleek and lightweight, making it comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The included touch controllers are also well-designed, with responsive buttons and accurate tracking that make it easy to interact with the virtual environment. One of the biggest advantages of the Meta Quest 2 is its wireless capabilities. It doesn't require any cables or external sensors, which makes it easy to set up and use. The headset also features a built-in microphone and speakers, which are great for communicating with other players during multiplayer games.

After waiting several years to jump into VR, this seemed like the right time to do it. First I have to say I am glad I got the 256 GB version, just for future proofing capacity. After using this unit for around 200 hours or so already, it is awesome fun. I had several friends get one as well, and we have had a riot playing mini golf, fishing, shooting Zeds.. playing Steam games , you name it... Using the link cable for steam works perfect. FYI I am using a very fast Desktop computer setup to play Steam games. I will say that getting the VR legs took a little bit of time, but doesn't bother me any longer. This thing is great.. if you are on the fence on getting VR, this is a great value, and works very well. I also got the elite head strap, and with the problems that were reported, i can say that mine is still fine. I have added an external 10,000Mah battery pack with a couple velcro straps that brings the battery life to 6-8 hours easily. Get one.

WOW!!! My wife and I are 60, haven't had this much fun on TV in years. We went with the $400 unit, Quest 2, 256k instead of the $300, 64k, more room to download. Easy to hook up, many choice of games. We purchased the Epic Roller Bundle immediately, $20, love it. So far we're up to $100 in purchases, our choice, they have Free games too. The vision is Fantastic, feels like you're in the mix. Imagine the movie, Total Recall. Best purchase I've made since buying her wedding ring. lol

I would give it 6 stars if I could. The headset is comfortable and the controllers are easy to use. I like the fact that all you need is a charger for the headset and batteries for the controllers. No extra wires our game consoles just turn on and play. The walking dead is our favorite game to play and if I had one thing to complain about is that I wish the battery life lasted longer.

I love this headset after upgrading from the rift s. No cables is awesome and you can link this headset wirelessly to your pc as long as it has wifi. It also runs better with steam with better graphics because your pc is helping out. I would still recommend this as stand alone because it has great storage capacity and is super light/ comfortable. Only draw back is battery life but you can buy a battery pack for it. Also look into SideQuest if you can hook up to a pc, it's pretty much a whole other store for games. Hope this review helps.

    The VR headset I wanted

This is exactly what I wanted out of a VR headset. The stand alone portion of the Quest 2 is an excellent alternative to needing a strong gaming PC. Quest 2 optimized games are so far fluid and with great detail. The upgraded 90Hz refresh rate does make a nice difference over the original Quest's 72Hz for smooth movement in games and applications. I have no regrets in purchasing this headset. My only gripe is the stock head strap is a little flimsy and doesn't really provide a great fit for extended use. I definitely recommend purchasing the Elite Strap for comfort and fit. The photos I've uploaded are with the Elite Strap installed, not the stock one. Aside from the built in VR hardware you can use the Oculus Link cable for a pretty great PC VR experience. I've played many games via the Link and all have been great. It works equally well with SteamVR as it does with the Oculus software. I played Halflife: ALYX via SteamVR perfectly fine with the quest 2. The visual quality using the link cable is very nice. Just make sure your USB 3.1 drivers are up to date and Windows 10 has it's latest updates installed. The included controllers are as good as any other VR controllers I've used. They are a little less cumbersome than the PSVR wands. They are also as good as the original Quest controllers. The battery life is better than the original Quest's. Make sure you use the attached hand straps to avoid throwing your controllers. Seriously, just use them. My only regret, and I knew this going in, is the Oculus software and link are only supported on recent builds of Windows 10. I would love to have some sort of Linux support, even if minimal. But like I said I knew this going in so I didn't have unrealistic expectations. There is always the off chance the hardware will be reverse engineered and community created Linux support may be possible. But don't buy this headset with the hope of this happening.

I've been exploring worlds and experiencing thing most people haven't seen. I actually built a world from the ground up with my hands. I've fought invaders to our kingdom with a bow and arrow. I've battled alongside aliens to defeat those who wished to destroy us. In my free time, I like to hang out above the earth and look down on the beautiful landscape it offers. Those who actually know me understand that everything i said just now is out of character for me, but I started playing the oculus quest (again out of character for me) and I honestly have a hard time putting it down.  I've interacted with people all over the world, even in these difficult times, and met some great people in this virtual world. I don't write product reviews much, but I believe this system is breaking barriers that social media and other gaming systems have not been able to ( Facebook owns oculus and you have to have a Facebook account to play). I am so happy I stumbled across this,  especially in the midst of a pandemic. It truly brings me joy every time I use it.
