This game was a blast!
It was a LOT harder than other Metroids out there. The boss fights can be very difficult. You have to die several times and figure out a technique for each boss. Once you beat the boss it's very fulfilling though!
The sprint/super dash is a bit more difficult on the switch since you're using the analog controller instead of a d-pad. That and you have to push in the analog stick to start the spring. youtube has some folks doing crazy dashes and wall jumps in sprint mode that I just can't figure out.
Other than that I can't think of any downsides of this game. Great graphics, great power ups, great bosses. Great addition to the Metroid family.

After 19 years, I was resigned to the fact that Metroid 5 (aka Metroid Dread) was never gonna happen and I'm beyond happy I was wrong. This game looks beautiful and runs incredibly well. It'll ease newcomers into the game at first, but you'll be expected to explore and find the way forward before long. There's a decent ammount of escalating challenge throughout with boss fights, but it's not too frustrating since the game is generous with save points and automatic checkpoints before bosses. There's also a demo available on the Switch eShop in case you want to be 100% sure you'd enjoy it. I personally would highly recommend this title.

The atmosphere of this game can sometimes scare you but the good gameplay will keep you coming back for more. Beautiful character design and a very cool sci-fi world to explore.

Metroid Dread is the pinnacle of the 2D series. The gameplay is smooth. The action is intense. 20years later it was worth the wait!

Feel like a kid again! This is harder than any Metroid games I've played. It is also top 3. Runs great on antiquated Switch hardware. Pumped for Metroid Prime 4

Classic 2D Metroid is back! You'll have so much fun traversing the world uncovering hidden secrets and finding upgrades to your arsenal. The boss fights especially are unforgivingly enjoyable! They're extremely tough but once you figure out their pattern, it's so rewarding when you beat them! The only negative thing about this game is that it's too short! I "blasted" through the game in under 10 hours, however, if you want to complete the game 100%, there are hidden upgrades to discover throughout the planet that'll add more playtime to your game.

Metroid Dread is one of the more challenging games in the franchise’s catalog. I regularly found myself feeling frustrated but all the more determined after frequently seeing the game over screen time and time again. As a long time Metroid fan, I expected this along with frequently feeling lost in the creative array of varied environments which offer many upgrades, foes, and secrets to discover. The more I explored and discovered, the more powerful I felt finding it easier to transverse through each environment and defeating the alien creatures scattered throughout the map. As a result, Metroid Dread is a welcome addition to the neglected series. Having said this, I can’t help but wish there was more emphasis on story considering this was allegedly the conclusion to a story line beginning over two decades ago. This may not matter to newcomers however. Lastly, once I finished the game after roughly 12 hours of gameplay, I found no desire to replay the game even though it offers a hard mode. Completionists and those who enjoy the abuse may enjoy this however.

A fun reminder of what made games like Super Metroid so great. Perhaps more linear, but still some opportunities to sequence break.

When this game was announced, I went back and played every Metroid game besides Prime Pinball and Federation Force. I was worried that I would be burnt out of the Metroid formula when this came out but it was a joy from start to finish. I ended up doing 4 playthroughs and still am ready to start another. Some advanced techniques and bosses can be challenging and require some practice. However the game never felt unfair and once you figured it out, you wondered why you ever struggled in the first place.

I love the Metroid Series, but since it had been so long since the last 2d entry in the series, I was a little skeptical if it would hold up compared to the others. Anyway, it totally does, and I could easily imagine this being someones favorite game in the franchise. I mean, its not my favorite... but its an exceptionally polished and fun experience, and a must play for fans of the series.

Metroid Dread is my favorite Metroid in the franchise. The graphics and the attention to details by the developers are so impressive. You can youtube all the visual nuances like how Samus’s feet are always flush on the ground even on a ledge or on uneven footing. The game itself is very challenging the first time through and has high replay value to beat on hard. The requirement to beat the game in under 4 hours for max bonus content is extremely challenging but fun.

I have never played a Metroid game before it so far it has been a blast. The overall game is excellent. It is hard and some levels frustrating at least for me but once you get past them it does give you a sense of achievement. The sound effects are top notch and the graphics are great for the switch. Overall I recommend it if you are looking for a challenging new game on the switch. if you get easily frustrated then you may want to consider trying the demo first.
