The Proteus 3 in 1 Joy-Con grip is not what I was expecting.
Let me start by saying that the grip does do as described, it’s the design that killed it for me. The Proteus lets you use it as a Switch console grip, a mobile phone grip, or a controller grip for the Joy-Cons. The Proteus comes in 3 pieces, the left and right grip and a center piece. When using it in Switch mode the center piece detaches. The left grip has a magnetic detachable plate that lets you slide a phone cord through to be able to charge while playing.
The Switch grip:
In this mode you only use the left and right grips. You start by sliding the Joy-cons inside the grips, then you slide the grips over your Switch. The problem I have, is the grips are not comfortable at all. There are way too bulky, making it hard to play. It would have been much more functional just making this into a single piece shell that goes over the whole Switch and Joy-Cons.
Mobile Phone Grip:
This is probably the most useless of all the features. The proteus lets you attach a center piece that extends and acts as a support bar for the phone, while you use the Joy-Cons to connect to the phone through Bluetooth. The problem is the same as listed above, only it’s more awkward to hold. I used an iPhone 12 max pro, the phone fits, but the grips are just too bulky to be comfortable. If you decide to not use the Joy-Cons, the grips are so bulky that it’s hard to reach your touch screen.
Controller Grip:
This is the most practical out of the 3 and the most comfortable. The Proteus acts as the standard case for the Joy-Cons (like the one that comes with the Switch), only its bigger. This is good if you have larger hands and find the stock controller case too small. I personally use the Pro controller when the Switch is docked, so I don’t really have much use for it.
Overall, I didn’t really find much use out the Proteus grip. Its way too bulky to use for the switch, making it hard to reach the buttons properly. The phone grip works, but again too bulky. The controller grip is the only thing I did find to be comfortable, but I don’t use it so it’s pointless for me. So, sadly I would have to pass on the Proteus Grip.

The Proteus 3-in-1 is a good idea. For me, the Nintendo Switch is a fabulous gaming system, but in my hands as a portable machine, it's not always comfortable (bigger hands). So to have an accessory that adds grips that help with this is great for me. In addition to this, the Proteus also can take the Joy Cons and make them into a standalone controller for the Switch either on the go, or with it in the dock and attached to the television. This is probably my favorite way to use the Proteus, but not unique to it by any means. The third way the Proteus can be used is as a grip for your mobile phone. This is my least used way to use it, as I was mainly interested in it as a Switch accessory. Overall it works for the Switch, but there are some things about it that I'm not excited about. First, it requires you to completely take apart the Switch. The Joy Cons seat into the grips and then the grips use the rails on the side of the main body that the Joy Cons use to bring it together. This isn't necessarily a deal breaker, but it's not convenient. This configuration also does not allow you dock the Switch, so you have to take it apart and reassemble the Switch in its native configuration to dock. Again, not very convenient. The other thing that I'm not excited about is the basic nature of the grips. They are hard plastic, they don't have a premium feel, are somewhat gnarled to help grip, but they just aren't real comfortable. I would say The Proteus achieves the purpose of being a grip enhancer for the Switch, but it doesn't stand out from other options, like a separate controller, or using the included Joy Con holder that comes with the Switch.

Great Accessory for your Switch

The Proteus X3 Switch Accessory/Joy-con adapter for cellphones is the accessory I didn't know I needed. It's east to write of alot of accessories for the Switch but this is all I'll use when playing my Switch while on the go. The joy cons slip and lock into place on this accessory, similar to the existing joy con grip, and that is where the similarity ends. If you've played your Switch in handheld mode then you know how cramped your hands can get at times. The joy cons are excellent but they don't have the form factor you see on competitors products. The form of the handles seems to resemble the same feel/form as the Gamecube controller. That's a win in my book. It adds a little bit more weight to the console but allows for much more comfort and doesn't strain my hands/wrist/arms after a while. One other observation, the portion of these handles that attach to the Switch immensely improve the durability and feels very much attached to the Switch. One thing that has always bothered me is that the joy cons that attach to the console feel flimsy sometimes. I don't know if this is due to use/age/etc but I found that using the Proteus X3 made for a much more enjoyable experience int his regard. Kudos to the design team for nailing that down.
The Proteus X3 comes in nice clean packaging with clear and discreet instructions. I highly recommend this product for anyone that regularly uses their Switch in handheld mode.

The MGC Proteus 3-In-1 Joy-Con Grip is awesome for you Nintendo Switch obviously, adding another controller easily with extra OE joy sticks, but, makes your phone a gaming machine!
I have been using the Proteus for a decent amount of time now and actually took it on a trip for a week to help pass the time waiting for flights and down time before and after a family matter. This was the best thing to take on a plane, so much easier to hold during gaming and having real dedicated buttons is killer.
Certain games like COD Mobile and Fortnite on mobile is 1000x better now, I can actually win games instead of struggling because of fat fingers. There is virtually zero lag with my phone using the OE Nintendo controllers and a set of aftermarket controllers I bought last year the placement for your fingers is perfect for an adult and even my 9 year old.
The controller base works perfect when playing racing games on the switch as well, so much better than just holding the joy sticks and trying to steer. The feel is great in your hands, almost has the feel of early Xbox controllers yet easily held by smaller hands.
I will continue to emjoy this controller base whilr mobile gaming the most though, I really enjoy FPS mobile games now, more than I ever had.

Great product that takes your switch and gives it more of a controller feeling for it. A lot of times for me my switch slips at times as its just to flat to hold. This adds a much better grip. I like that you can use it in 3 different ways. Either use it with switch screen, or you can use it with a phone, or you can use it just like a controller.
A couple downsides that I can think of. First being there is no stand. Not too big a deal, but it would have been nice to have as I sometimes will play some games, then watch videos for a bit and then back to playing games. I would like to not have to take phone and just stand it up.
Another thing is if you use a wired headset, this blocks it if it's on the end. So, you would have to use Bluetooth headphones with this.
The back on the right-side controller piece easy detaches as its magnetic to allow you to run your charging cord thru it.
If you use it with switch screen, you take the middle piece out. So just keep that in a safe spot so you don't lose it.
Overall, this has been a great addition.

I was very excited to get this grip thinking I found a cheap yet worthy replacement for using my current controller for mobile gaming on my phone and an enhancement for my switch. As far as the switch is concerned I've never really had an issue using it without any attachments but thought I'd try it anyway. I wasn't happy, it felt way too bulky and kind of separated my hands away from the device. It says textured grip but it's plastic feels slippery. Also you lose the slim sleekness of the console and the use of your carry case. I use public transportation everyday and that's where I get most of my gaming done so I need to be able to access and store my console quickly. But the main reason I decided to get this grip was more for gaming on my phone. I play COD Mobile on my pixel 8 and prefer external controllers over touch screen gaming. This is advertised as being compatible with so many different things but it's really not. I thought this solved the connectivity issue with the joycons on androids. They do connect via Bluetooth but as individual controllers, I thought this provided a way to use them as one solid controller but it doesn't. Which is a shame because I do really like how the phone sits inside the grip and the play and charge set up is really nice as well.
