Good Third Party Nintendo Switch Controller

This wireless Nintendo Switch controller feels solidly built and is really lightweight. It’s a small controller that’s actually slightly smaller than the joy-con grip that comes with the switch. My only real complaint with this controller is that for my large hands I do get cramps with long play sessions. So, if you have large hands, this may not be the controller for you. I do like the large face buttons and d-pad compared to the joy-cons, although the face buttons are a bit stiff for my taste they do work just fine. I also like that the analog sticks are larger than those on the joy-cons. Another nice feature is that the face buttons and d-pad are offset from the analog sticks so the sticks don’t get in the way like they can on the joy-cons. The controller features both gyro control and rumble that work well, the rumble is even adjustable with four levels of rumble. The controller also has two programmable buttons located on the bottom of the controller. This controller does seem to take a few more seconds to connect wirelessly to the Switch compared to the joy-cons and Nintendo pro controller, but it is not a significant issue. It also disconnects faster than the joy-cons when it’s left idle. It has a rechargeable battery that has a good charge length, so you can get a lot of play out of a charge. The controller comes with two easily swappable magnetic plates one black and one white so you can choose which look you prefer.

I've spent a couple weeks with the MCG Switchplate Wireless Nintendo Switch Controller, and I gotta say I'm pretty impressed. The buttons are responsive, the controller is easy to use, and the customizations for faceplate color, rumble, and analog stick sensitivity are welcome features. There's only one problem: it's way too small in my XL hands. That's the reason for 4 stars: this controller is not for everyone. It's 5 stars for people with small hands! I gave it to my 7 year-old, and he loves it. The Switchplate is my third wireless Pro-style controller. I have the official Pro and a fairly cheap knockoff bought online. The Switchplate is easily better than the knockoff, although it doesn't quite rival the perfection of the Pro. That said, a new Pro controller is expensive, and also too large for my kids to comfortably use. My 7 year-old had been using the joy cons clipped into the Nintendo grip, which he found easier to use than the larger Pro controller. But let's be honest, the control sticks on the joy cons aren't the greatest, and he often complained of poor performance in games like Minecraft Dungeons and Smash Brothers. That's why I was super happy to give him his own Pro-style controller that's a little bit easier to grip. I've posted a couple images with this review showing the difference between the controllers side by side, and also how they look in the hands of a 7 year-old kid and his dad. As for performance: Pairing and using the controller was easy as pie, and took just a few seconds to set up. I was pleased to see the Switchpate can wake the system up when it's docked, which is something the knock-off Pro controller has never been able to accomplish. When first turned on, my kid found the rumble a bit too strong for his tastes, so I dug into the included manual and found out how to change the intensity. It's easy and works great! You can also change the sensitivity of the analog sticks. It's a welcome option but I haven't tried it yet. The plate switching that gives this controllers its name is also quite easy. There's a small lip on the lid between the horns of the controller that allows you to pry up the lid, which is held on by several small magnets. When the plate is on, it's almost impossible to tell that it's replaceable, because the gap between the top and bottom is no different than if it had been permanently affixed. I'm hoping MDG releases other face plates for the controller, because it would be cool for both my kids to have one with plates customized to their tastes, with either new colors or licensed characters. I like the white, but the kids would prefer something that speaks to them. All-in-all, I would recommend this controller to adults with smaller hands and parents of kids who want great performance in a smaller package!

Before receiving this controller, I had never heard of the company “mobile gaming corps”, however this product gave me a relatively good impression of the company. In comparison to the Nintendo Pro controller, I think the switchplate can hold its ground pretty, well especially considering its lower price. The setup was relatively easy, however I resorted to just plugging it into the switch dock. Wireless connection of the controller is relatively simple as well, however the instructions will be needed. All of the buttons are pretty decent, not exactly very tactile, but good enough for the job. Some of the buttons are a softer membrane type of button, while others, such as in the D-pad and shoulder buttons are very tactile, clicky buttons. I thought this random distribution of button was a little strange, but nothing to complain about. The buttons on the rear are a nice addition, and it’s pretty easy to map the functions. The joysticks are very smooth, if a little over tensioned. The only thing I don’t like is that the sticks are smooth and can slip from your fingers at some times. The controller is great to play with, and as far as I have seen, there’s no delay in the signal. I tested it with Mario Kart 8 deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and both games worked smoothly with the controller. The rumble is very nice, not too harsh, but still gives a good feeling. One of the major gripes I have about this controller is its size. Its compact size is proudly advertised; however, I think it is too small for the average person. I would consider my hands to be average or small, however this controller is a weird size and angle so that it’s a little awkward to hold. The size also makes it awkward to reach the minus button, as you have to reach over the left joystick. Overall, a very good controller for the price/quality, if you have large hands, perhaps try it out before you buy it.

good wireless switch controller, PC works corded

Before this, I bought a corded controller for some PC gaming. There are some games that just play so much better with a controller. It’s a good controller, but it’s wired. So I was looking for two things, wireless connectivity, and a good controller to connect to my Nintendo Switch. This controller fulfills one of those things on that controller bucket list, it connects to a Switch. Bummer is, to connect to my PC for gameplay, I still have to use the cord. Oh well, 1 out of 2 isn’t bad. There’s a cord with this controller for fast charging, and for those of you who didn’t know, for the very first time, you must use the cord to pair the controller to your Switch. Don’t worry though because after you do, it will connect wirelessly very easily after that. Just hold the home button for a short time and voila. Controller came with almost full charge, only took about 10 minutes plugged in to fully charge it. There are 2 face plates, a white plate, and black plate. I guess for some people that may be a thing, I personally don’t care what the color is. Controller is built well, and buttons can be re-mapped to your liking. The show stopper for me is the ability to customize. Like I said above you can map out the buttons, but that’s not all you can do. You can customize the haptics, or rumble strength, from 4 settings. You can also set a turbo mode! What! Takes me back to NES Max days. Some good thought went into designing this controller. My only tangible complaint is that it’s somewhat small for my hands. I’d prefer something a little bit bigger. That said, all in all this is a good controller. With the durability you can feel when holding it, it should last for quite some time.

Really great feeling controller with minor nitpick

This is a solid controller that works great with the Switch. It's super easy to pair from the controller set up screen and I haven't run into any connection issues whatsoever since I got it. I also haven't charged it since I got - at all! It arrived charged and still has battery left to spare after several hours of use. There are a few things that I wish were slightly different, but are in now way deal breakers. The joysticks are just a little looser than I'd like. By that I just mean there's not a ton of natural resistance built into them. Don't get me wrong, they work absolutely fine and I imagine I will grow used to them over time. But are they better than the joysticks on the joy-cons that came with the Switch itself? No they are not. Knowing that before you buy might be helpful. The buttons are fine and there's more than you'll ever need unless you're playing something super unique. They work fine, but again feel a little less premium than Nintendo's own offering. The other thing I'm not wild about is the red and blue used here. I have the Animal Crossing themed version of the Switch, so can't really compare it to the traditional red and blue used on the standard Switch model. Maybe these are the colors used there? My guess from looking at images online is that they are subtle different. The red on the MGC looks much more orange to my eyes in person than it does on the Best Buy listing. I think it kinda clashes with the rest of the controller. So, if you're color picky... keep that in mind. But fortunately the two included switchplates give you some options and I particularly like the look of the white one. Gives it an Xbox vibe, which isn't a bad thing in my opinion, and I think it works better with the blue and red than the black switchplate does. The switchplates are a little tricky to take off. You'll need some fingernails. But putting them on couldn't be easier, given there's some magnetic action going on here. Maybe the most important thing for a controller like this aside from connectivity is how it feels in the hand. And I love it in that regard. It's not as wide as a PS4 controller and in some ways I think it's more comfortable. I've got smallish hands and the MGC is kind of the perfect size for me. As such, it's something I reach for when playing multi-player games with my daughter. Even with the controller adapter, the joy-cons have been kind of hard for me to get used to personally. If you fall into this category of gamer, you might well be satisfied by the MGC.

The controller is a bit smaller than the official one but feels good in my hands. It was easy to pair with my Nintendo switch which is the 1st model. I plugged in the USB into the dock while the switch was docked and it recognized it quickly. The buttons feel good and when playing games and there wasn't any lag. The buttons have just the right amount of clickyness and feel like they should last. The joysticks on the controller also feel very good and appear to well built and should also last. They have a very small dip in the thumbpad so they are comfortable to use. I tend to play for a few hours in a day and plug the controllers in to charge however I went a couple days without charging. The battery life seems to be good. It is also useable with the cord plugged in and it will charge while playing. The included charging cable is 6 ft long and would work well with my gaming setup when docked. The two features that make it stand out is the switchable faceplate and the ability to use it with a PC. I like the ability to switch out the faceplate for a different colors and would like to see some more faceplates get released, maybe even some game/character specific ones. I like knowing that I can use this to game on my laptop as I have a few games that work better with a controller vs the keyboard. I think due to the price and features, this is a definite must have if you play the switch docked, like to use a controller or even if you game on a computer and prefer a controller.

Was very excited to get this. Switching the plates is easy as they have a magnetic feature. It’s a plug n play type of device and no Setup required. Used with my Nintendo Switch and PC games and it handled really well. Didn’t experience any glitches or lags. There’s a rumble button (much appreciated) that can be adjusted to different levels of rumble to get a personal experience in how the player wants to interact with the game. The controller is lightweight and comfortable to hold/handle. A turbo button exists on the top of the controller but it’s use is limited to specific gaming. Since shooting games have a period where guns need to reload, the turbo button will only work so much in certain games/instances. So not all games will benefit from the turbo function/button, but it nonetheless is a cool feature. The buttons on the back of the controller can be modified to serve as different functions based on the user’s preferences, since all players handle their controllers differently. All-in-all a nifty controller for gaming.

    Wireless, programmable, and customizable!

This new controller from MGC packs a serious punch in terms of features and quality. The design combines a high quality feel with easily interchangeable black and white faceplates which attach securely using magnets. Features include wireless or wired gameplay, 4 levels of customizable rumble intensity, programmable buttons on the back of the controller, 4 levels of adjustable stick sensitivity, and gyro motion controls. All of this is done via a programming button on the back of the controller and so no special software support is required. You can even connect the controller to a PC via the supplied USB-A to USB-C cable. Battery life has been solid. Taken together, the features, performance, quality, and included cable make this a fantastic value and a great choice for somebody looking for a more traditional controller layout for Switch gameplay. The layout of the sticks and buttons closely matches that of recent XBOX controllers, so XBOX players will feel immediately at home. Even if the layout is new to you, the size of the controller and positioning of key buttons makes everything easy to reach. The programming buttons on the back are a great touch and can be easily remapped to front side buttons within a few seconds. I loved the precision of the sticks, but I should note that I also had a competitive Nintendo eSports player try the controller and they noted that it would be great to be able to dial up the stick sensitivity even further. I suspect most players will be satisfied, but keep this in mind if super sensitive stick response is important and you play games which cannot adjust this in software. Overall, this is easily my favorite Switch controller and easy to recommend to anybody who is looking for a solid twin-stick alternative to the bundled Joy-Cons. Pros: 1. Lightweight design and relatively compact size make everything easy to reach, even for smaller hands (see included image for reference). 2. Controls are responsive and have a high quality feel. 3. XBOX style twin stick layout. 4. Programming rear buttons. 5. Adjustable rumble and stick sensitivity. 6. Wireless and wired play 7. USB play and charge cable included 8. Looks great! Faceplates are a fun idea that’s been well executed. Cons: 1. If you dislike the XBOX stick layout, this may not be for you. 2. Some competitive players may wish for even greater levels of stick sensitivity.

I've been struggling to find a reason to keep playing anything on my Switch - I bought it a few months ago and used it for a week, and then stopped for a couple of months. The first problem is the joy-con buttons are terribly tiny and my thumb presses 2 at a time. Then I bought a controller with bigger buttons, but it only worked as a full controller if it was wired into the dock console - which means the Switch sat alone again. That is, until I got the MGC Switchplate! Since it is wireless, I can simply use the kickstand on the Switch and have it at an appropriate viewing level/height, I can use it as a full controller that doesn't require being attached! As you can see in the picture, the controller is smaller than your standard Xbox controller, but with buttons bigger than the joy-cons. Having the bigger button helps me not accidentally press 2 buttons at a time. It's also lighter than an Xbox controller as well. The only downside I had was getting it to pair with my Switch. Switch would not see it while on or off the console dock. I wound up plugging it in with the included USB-C to USB cable. Once the Switch saw it, I was able to take it off the dock and still use it wirelessly. This was not included in the instructions, which should have been. Pros: 4 light panel shows both battery charging and controller number when connected to Switch Turbo and back custom programmable buttons Bigger XYBA buttons (in comparison to the Switch joy-cons Includes long USB-C cable Lightweight Can be used on PC Cons: Trouble with initial pairing of controller wirelessly Could've included a USB to USB-C adapter to use on PCs

I got the Nintendo switch a month ago, and I like it, I was impressed with the graphics and the variety of games. However the Joysticks buttons were tiny for my fingers and hard to operate and because of this, I was making the mistake pressing 2 buttons and ruining my game. This MGC - Switchplate Wireless Nintendo Switch Controller was extremely useful. The size of the XYBA buttons were just right for my fingers. Everything is organized in a way that makes sense and intuitive. The wireless function is a great idea, and the response is really good, didn’t see any difference is terms of performance with the Nintendo controller. I like the option to exchange the cover plates, so if you get bored with the black just change it with the white. It is surprisingly affordable for it’s design and what it does. It also comes with the USB C to USB cable for charging or connectivity. For the Setup I followed the instructions closely, first I fully charged it, but I had some trouble trying to pair with the Nintendo Switch wirelessly. So with the Nintendo out of the base I used a USB-C to USB-C cable to connect directly to the controller, and after some troubleshoot I noticed that on the top menu on the right there was an icon called “change grip/order” and once I pressed that, it selected the MGC controller, and everything started to work. I supposed it was probably paired since the beginning and I didn’t notice. This is a really cool complement that adds a great value for my Nintendo switch, and works great as secondary controller.

I'm somewhat of a purveyor of third party controllers, especially when it comes to the "daily driver" category. I usually love using the official ones, but I also don't like to wear them out while grinding out levels. I decided to give this particular one a try, and I have some observations. First thing to note, this pad is NOT quite as plug-and-play as an official Nintendo controller. I expected that going in, and connected it just like another third party controller I own. Set up was relatively easy once I remembered the process. It took me more than a couple of minutes, so don't try to rush it... One gripe I have is that the face plate is a little difficult to remove the first time you try. The magnets were not easy to separate- I thought I'd need to crack open my toolbox and pry it off! Luckily the magnets are easier to peel now without losing stability. Another gripe I have is the size: it is kinda small. It's not quite as small as a pair of joy-cons in a grip, but close enough. Might be a good size for a kid, but not the best fit for adult hands... Another thing to keep in mind is that the analog sticks are on the stiff side, especially right out the box. It takes some time for them to loosen up to the point where they feel almost normal. The stiffness could still occasionally throw you off your game, though... Overall a decent "workhorse" controller when you wanna get some playtime without wearing out a more expensive controller, but there are better options out there.

The remote was good; it was smooth and easy to use, but it lasted me only about a year. The joystick is giving me problems now, even after I adjust the sensitivity. Now it’s hard to move in a certain direction at times, specifically up. Idk if that’s the typical life expectation, but I just wish it lasted a little longer.
