Poor Quality Dock, Speaker, and Microphone

I'm with the other reviewer who gave it 1 star - The speaker is "ok" on its own. Translation: When using Teams, if I have the output set to Speaker (with a different Microphone), the audio quality isn't so bad. However, when you enable the microphone in Teams to use the mic in this device, the audio quality from the speaker drops drastically. Another very important note: One of my monitors is a 5k monitor. This audio dock cannot drive a 5k monitor. The monitor just stays blank when you try. It was able to drive the 4k 27" monitor just fine. I roped a couple of colleagues to test out the microphone quality, and out of 5 devices (one built into the 5k monitor, one in my webcam, one in the Audio Dock, one in the Microsoft modern USB-C speaker, and the Apple microphone inside my closed MacBook Pro, they all voted that the Audio Dock had the worst microphone quality of all). I was excited to replace my Modern USB-C Microsoft speaker with something with better audio quality, but honestly, everything was worse with the higher-priced audio dock.

Great Dock but needs Ethernet port and more power

In the box: • Audio Dock (comes with integrated USB-C cable) • Power cord • Pictural Quick-Start card Not in the box: • User’s Guide, specifications, or other instructions (available online but not in PDF format) Quick Pros & Cons: Pros: • Good audio quality (sending and receiving) • Integrated speaker design • Storage under unit for USB-C cable Cons: • No Ethernet port • Only 1 HDMI port • 60-watt maximum power (50-watt during audio use) Setup: • Plug and play • No apparent requirement for specific driver software Function: This is, first and foremost, a docking station. It cannot be used as a USB-C speakerphone without the power cord. The dock supports up to two 4K (3840 x 2160) displays, one connected via HDMI and one connected via USB-C. There are two additional ports, one USB-C and one USB-A (both USB-3.1 Gen 2). Both USB-C ports provide up to 7.5 watts of power. There are buttons on the top of the dock to 1) launch Teams, 2) answer/end calls (or play/pause audio playback), 3) increase volume, 4) decrease volume, and 5) mute the microphone. The “Teams” button seems a bit gratuitous, but this is, after all, Microsoft hardware. I have the dock connected to my work laptop (a Dell Latitude 5400). The OEM power supply for this laptop provides 65W while the Audio Dock only provides 60W (50W during audio use). On first use of the Audio Dock, I got a warning that the system was not getting enough power and there was a “!” on battery icon on my taskbar. My laptop was fully charged at the time and has remained so over several days of use. That said, I have no power-requiring peripherals connected to this laptop and only 1 USB-C peripheral (a webcam) connected to the dock. This dock may not be the best choice for systems that require >60W of power to function and support peripherals. As a speakerphone, the Audio Dock is very capable. The audio is excellent and, according to others on my calls, the microphone is as well. The dock has two forward-facing microphones and three speakers (one woofer and two tweeters). There is no noticeable feedback or echo when on a call. The microphones seem to function best when facing the unit at a 90-degree angle. As a speaker, it is very bass heavy. Some may like this tilt to the audio spectrum, but it is a bit too much when listening to instructional videos.

It just doesn’t work, it doesn’t connect well with its own Microsoft ecosystem! Microphone is terrible and speaker output will not work, to make it work, I have to flip the speaker output on the laptop to something different every single time to make it work !

Nice Audio Dock - Needs Work

I'm going to start this off by saying I got this because our company has shifted to Microsoft Teams over the last 3-4 years and I thought an audio dock with Teams interface would be a nice tool to ease the meeting experience. This review is directed at that interoperability. I'll start with the physical attributes. The dock is about the size of a standard brick dock, but taller for the speaker and buttons. It has volume control buttons on top, but more importantly it has Teams buttons on top as well. One thing that threw me off was the connect cable comes out of the bottom of the dock, but doesn't sit flat meaning there's a tilt to the dock unless you put weight on it. The bottom of the dock has this fabric cover to make it nice and neat, but then this cable comes popping out of it like an after thought. I find it a very odd design choice. It does have an HDMI and a USB-C that supports video, which is very nice. I had no trouble using either of those. It also has a data USB-C and USB-A for peripherals that works well. Moving from the physical was the connectivity. When I plugged it into my Windows based Surface, it detected it and asked me if I wanted to install the dock to my system. I told it yes and it did everything in background without asking me for the type, model, or configuration. That was very nice to have true plug and play. In the end, it just worked after a single prompt. The audio quality is fine. Much, much better than a laptop speaker, but obviously not designed to compete with high end audio components. The microphone works well and since you can adjust the placement of the dock (the cables are plenty long enough), it actually works better than the built in one on my laptop. The Teams interface is the quirky part and it may be in part due to me, but if that's the case then I think it could be more intuitive. When you have a Teams meeting, you can press the Teams button on the dock and it'll join and you use the speaker and microphone on the dock. You can mute and unmute yourself with the button on top as well. One very nice option is being able to hold the mute button down to temporarily unmute allowing you to say a few words, release the button, and automatically be back on mute. That all works well and it works most of the time. There are still a few issues that pop-up using that method. The other side of the coin is when you join a meeting using your computer and then try to use the Teams interface on the dock. It doesn't sync or detect when I'm in a meeting if I don't use the Teams button to join the meeting in the beginning. I tried pressing the Teams button while in a meeting and one time it disconnected and tried to rejoin, another time it did nothing, and one time it actually just enabled itself like I expected it to do. While that's not such a big deal for casual meetings, it will not work for professional meetings. While I like the idea of the Teams features of the dock, I don't think they're quite ready for professional business usage. It is a fine dock otherwise. I'm sure with updates in the future they will get it ironed out, but between the odd cabling design and the inconsistent Teams interaction I don't see me using it a lot right now.

    Teams accessory with dock capabilities

Microsoft Audio Dock is a Teams certified speaker with laptop dock built in. This is designed for someone who works from home and attends a lot of Teams meetings daily. The design and build quality of the device feels premium and rugged. You can use the dock to connect to external monitors via HDMI, or USB C ports. The dock also has a USB A port, which can be used to connect external drives or to connect a charging cable. The dock also supports power passthrough, which can power your laptop for up to 60W. This might be enough for most of the work laptops, but not enough power for a gaming laptop. The mute button lets you mute and unmute yourself during a call and provides status by lighting up on a call. The Teams button on top of the dock will let you join a meeting, bring up your Teams dial pad, or even raise your hand during a meeting. You can adjust the volume using the + and - buttons as well. There is also a Play/Pause button on the dock that will enable you to answer and end a call as well as leave a meeting. The sound quality of the speakers is pretty decent, and I didn't have any issues hearing people on the call. One thing to consider is that this might look portable in terms of size, but it is not lightweight as a travel accessory for on the go use. Although you can use it as a speaker for other voice conference applications like Zoom or Google Meet, this is primarily intended to be used for Microsoft Teams with the additional features and functionality. Overall, this is a must have accessory that integrates video conference speaker with a wired dock as a combo device.

I was able to use the Microsoft Audio Dock Teams for my meeting the other day and it worked amazingly! I read the directions thoroughly before my meeting and gave myself enough time to set it up before my meeting started. Setup was very easy, the instructions were very clear and understandable. The sound during my meeting was loud, extremely clear, and i did not experience any distortion or static of any kind. I love that i can charge my phone, tablet, and laptop thelugh the dock, this makes it so convenient for me especially since im always forgetting to charge my devices on time for a meeting. The sound can be adjusted very easily with the press of a button. I love that it has a mute control function because as a mom who works from home my children do tend to come arpund me when im in meetings but with this dock its easy and wuick to mute myself when my kids need to ask me something without disturbing the rest of my team. I love that this dock has two usb-c slots because both my phone and tablet take a c charger. It also has a USb-A and HDMI slot on it. Overall my first experience with the Microsoft Audio Dock was amazing with clear, loud sound, easy to set up and use, and was very convenient for me!

Nice Conference Call Device For The Right Setting

In today’s business environment, no one seems immune to having to have some sort of online conference call at least once per week. Whether that is through Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet (I have used all three in the past week), anything that can make that user experience nicer is a step in the right direction. The Microsoft Audio Dock, given the right user experience, is a very nice device to have. My first impression out of the box is that this is a sturdily contracted device. It is a little heavier that I expected it to be but not too bad. If you wanted to be portable with this though, I may weight your bag down a bit. Also, I would have liked the cable management to be a bit better. The USB-C out cord looks awkward coming out of the device. And even with nominally connecting it to power and the computer, the two cords add to an already crowded desk. However, connecting the device is easy. You can connect to the USB-C port on the computer. That should be it. It should be read to go. The device can work well as a mini docking station. It does offer HDMI output along with USB-A and USB-C outputs. The device will allow two monitors to be connected to it. It also is certified for use with Teams. For me, the real point in this is the need an whether it makes the meeting experience better. I think it really depends on the situation. IF you want this as a conference speaker device to be used in a single person environment, I am not sure this is best suited for that. For all my private meetings, just using another device seems much. Plus, I like space on my desk. I am not sure the space for this is justified by its addition. In a single person setting, the 15 W woofer and 5 W tweeter, just seemed much for a voice conversation. I was a caught off guard by the bass this device brought. It was louder than I needed. In a true conference call where you have multiple people in the room, this device would work great. It has a light on top to let you know when you are on mute or not. So, a team could press this button and quickly mute themselves to have a sidebar conversation. The device is plenty loud enough so that everyone in the conference area could hear as well. In the end, the device works great for meetings or other audio you want to play from your system. For me though, it works best in an environment of three or more people. For one on one calls or listening to music, all I need is the built-in computer audio or a set of Bluetooth headphones. But if you have a need for a conference call device, I recommend the Microsoft Audio Dock.

If you are looking for an option for your video conferencing, notably if you are a Microsoft teams user, the Audio dock is a great option for your office desk. With a USB C that connects to your laptop and a power cord, you can have a nice (but basic) setup for your office. In the box, you are receiving the dock and the power cord. At least both need to be connected to the power and your laptop. At least, when the power is connected to the device and this is connected to my laptop, this delivers power and recharges the battery. Sadly because of that, you can not move around wireless like you are on a call with a tablet. The speaker is quite good for a mall office and the mic seems to deliver the right sound to my listeners while at the same time doing noise canceling. When I tried in a big conference room the listeners from the end of the table were not so impressed. I would recommend only an office not a meeting room. A couple of very nice elements are that you can call your teams from the device itself by pushing a button. The same applies to controlling the volume or muting your voice. This makes very easy the communication when you are dealing with a presentation and the mouse is moving the slides. As every Microsoft product is very easy to set up, just by plugging and windows recognizes the product without drivers. Be aware that if you have several audio devices connected to your computer, the icon for the dock is an old phone. I tried google meets and zoom with similar functionalities and had no problem with the sound received and the mic works great also. Finally, I like the product but I would use it only for my vacation home where the office setting is less elaborated. For my primary residence and office, I prefer the fully functional external mic and good speakers, all prepared with multiple monitors. Because of its size, I can not put it in my bag for visiting clients or commuting to the office, so it will stay in the second residency for occasional calls.

There are many things I like about this speaker. The sound quality of this speaker is very good. It has good bass response for such a small unit and excellent spatial reproduction of both voices and music. It's a good size and fits easily and unobtrusively on most any desk. The controls are easy to use and the design is pleasing. I also like the USB cord storage - the attached USB-C cord can be wound around the bottom, held in place by a slot in the rubber bottom of the speaker's base. Now for the things I don't like so much...First of all, why can this not be USB powered? The power brick is almost as big as the speaker itself. If it weren't for that, this would make a great speaker for traveling with a laptop. Also, the USB-C cable is permanently attached, so if it frays or breaks, the speaker is useless. There are USB ports on the unit itself, but those are only used as a hub to connect to external devices like a monitor, printer, etc. It would have been smarter to have the speaker's cable be detachable. Overall, I am not impressed with this. The quality is good, but there are better options for the price.

I have been wanting a new speaker for my computer set up that I can for work meetings when I am working from home and as a casual speaker for listening to music. This audio dock does the job and the quality built feels rugged which I appreciate because it feels like this can last for years to come. Here are my thoughts on its features: Sound 3/5 – although the sound is clear, I really wish that this was louder. For meetings the sound is adequate, but for listening to music it’s not loud enough unfortunately. Design 5/5 – I really enjoy the though built of this audio dock because you can feel the quality when taking it out of the box and I don’t feel concern that this thing will break in the future. Let’s hope that is the case! I also like the cable management that went into the product. I don’t like seeing cables on my desk, so this makes me happy! Connectivity 5/5 – Super easy. I was able to set up an external monitor without a problem using an HDMI cord. Using this as the microphone and speaker for my meetings was easy. Having the mute button is a nice feature, but I found myself just doing it from the computer anyway. Overall, this item does the job but if you want to use this mostly for music, I would say think of maybe getting an actual speaker set up. This was not loud enough for me, but it checked the boxes on my other needs like using it as a speaker for work meetings and dock to connect an external monitor.

Microsoft - Audio Dock for Teams

The package came in and is easy to open and find everything needed to set it up. I had it up and running for my work laptop in just a few minutes, primarily because of running the wires behind my desk. The power supply does not supply as much power as my power brick does, so it is a slow charge, but that isn't the case for all laptops. I really wish there was another HDMI port on it, but with an adapter it is simple to connect a second monitor. The speaker function works perfectly in Teams. The volume and sound quality is much better than my laptop, or either monitor I have connected to it. I like the fact that I can just reach over and turn the volume up and down or mute my microphone without having to find it with my mouse in the middle of a meeting. While I don't listen to music while working, I do find myself listening to podcasts. The play/pause button makes it very simple to pause whatever I'm listening to without having to search for the right thing to click on when someone unexpectedly approaches my office. I never would have thought to look for a dock for my laptop with Teams functionality built into it, but this little device is amazing.

Summary ------------ This is a nice versatile dock which can help you manage your multiple displays and as well as double up as an audio dock for teams and zoom calls. With everyone turning to hybrid office working model , this is a good addition to your home officer. Ports ------ 1 HDMI 2.0 port with 4K@60Hz 1 10Gbps USB-C (USB3.1) 1 10Gbps USB-C (USB3.1 ) 1 10Gbps USB-A 3.2 An upstream 10Gbps USB-C Details ---------- Looks like a very well built and sturdy doc which looks more like a Bluetooth speaker than a doc in itself Connect this thing to the USB port of your laptop and you can connect the doc to multiple displays and also use it it as a speaker /mic for the zoom and teams calls I did test with zoom and the clarity is very good and the other side can hear very well I also connected to monitor and works well. Works well for listening to the music on Spotify and has a good amount of bass to it. It does not have Bluetooth and wish it did.. Overall a good investment. IF you are working from home, this is a good option to go for

Overall this is a nice speaker/microphone for a laptop/PC. While the Hub portion on the back could have included more ports (On USB-A port and one USB-C for connecting keyboards and such, it would be nice if it had some extra USB-A or USB-C Ports to make it more of a function dock for a laptop, but it really is a speaker/microphone for teams with the ability to add a few peripherals/monitor to it to keep the desk a bit cleaner to the laptop. This Speaker/Dock also can deliver power to the laptop assuming your USB-C or Thunderbolt port on the laptop supports it. That is nice as it allows you to keep your power supply in your bag, unless your laptop is more on the gaming laptop side, then this might give it enough power for office work, but not really gaming as I believe the limit is 65 watts. Still a nice feature to have. The sound from the speaker is clear, and listening to music through it I had no issues at all. I also had multiple conference calls and had no complaints from people on the call being able to hear me clearly and 0 issues understanding me. You can also install the Microsoft Accessories Center app allowing you to tune the EQ and turn on Push to Talk and other features. If it wasn't for the fact that it can be used to deliver power to your device I'd complain about the size of the power brick (which isn't large) but since it can I understand why we need a 65 watt brick. Otherwise I found for the most part this was a plug and play device and like it.

In the days of hybrid and remote work, one essential that pretty much anyone could benefit from is a solid UC audio solution. I was really excited when i saw that Microsoft was offering something Teams integrated for personal use, and this product is definitely a winner. Setup is extremely simple, as for most people it will be a matter of connecting their existing video (via HDMI), necessary USB devices, etc to the dock, running a power adapter, and plugging the USB C cable into the computer. I say most people, as I kept getting an error saying that the power source for the dock wasn’t providing adequate enough charging power for my computer. This was quickly resolved by using my power adapter for the computer in one USB C port and the Microsoft Dock in another. If you are port limited you’re going to want to keep this in the back of your mind. From an audio quality standpoint this device is stellar. It does a great job of filtering out your background noise and folks on the other end commented that they could hear me very clearly. The two convenience buttons on top - one to quickly launch Teams, and the other to mute and unmute the mic, work with zero issues on a PC. The Teams button didn’t seem to work on my MacBook Air, but that could be a step I missed somewhere in the directions. Overall I’d say this is a great way to clean up some clutter in your home workspace and have high quality audio for all your back to back Teams calls.

The new Microsoft Audio Dock is a Teams Certified device that offers top-notch connectivity and impressive audio quality. Equipped with a versatile USB-C port, this device supports multiple devices and can be directly plugged into laptops, desktop computers, and tablets. The speaker phone feature is prettt good, offering clear and crisp sound with a high level of clarity. I tested it with Zoom calls as well, and experienced no issues. The Microsoft Audio Dock also allows users to connect two monitors simultaneously, providing high-quality video and audio clarity for both monitors. The price point of the Microsoft Audio Dock may be a little steep, but it is well worth it for the quality of sound and connectivity this device provides. Overall, the Microsoft Audio Dock is a reliable and high-performance device that is ideal for video conference calls, presentations and multimedia usage. I can recommend this product to anyone looking for a decent speaker as well as a usb C docking station for travel.
