I received these as part of the Best Buy Tech Insider Program. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews. I have been using the Surface 2 headphones for about a week now, and I previously used the Sony WM-1000XM3 and had various other bluetooth earbud and neckband style wireless earbuds. Overall, the Surface 2 headphones are good, but not great compared to the Sony, primarily for two reasons - comfort (which I realize is very subjective) and active noise cancellation (ANC) performance. Also, the Surface 2 is one of the best headphones I've used for connectivity, with one significant exception. POSITIVES: The product/build quality is excellent and much better than the Sony. The fit/finish and quality of the materials used, with exception of the earpads, is of very high quality. The plastics that are used are all soft-touch and not creaky at all. This is probably the only headphone/earbud I've ever used (and I've used a lot) that has true multipoint connectivity for audio/sound. I can be simultaneously connected to both my phone and my PC and playback audio from either device with no interaction or manual switching back and forth. The headphones can only play from one source at a time (obviously), but they seamlessly and automatically switch back and forth no problem. However I could not get the audio in/microphone to work via multipoint, even after troubleshooting with Microsoft. IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: The biggest complaint I have is the overall comfort of the Surface 2's on my ears compared to the Sonys. I realize this is highly subjective, since everyone's tolerance level is different, but for me, the headphones are just not comfortable for extended wear compared to the Sony XM3 set I had previously. The earcup padding is stiffer, and overall the size is smaller, so the ear cups are resting on my ear lobes vs. the side of my head with the Sony XM3. The 2nd biggest problem is that the ANC is just not as good compared to the Sony. Microsoft advertises a continuous scrolling wheel to adjust the ANC and volume, and while the volume is infinitely adjustable via the scroll wheel, the ANC is merely stepping through four standard settings and none of them are as good (on a comparative basis). Definitely try these on in store if you can before you buy. Finally, as noted above, I could not get the headphones to pair with my PC such that the mic-in can be used. I tried troubleshooting with MS Tech Support, but the rep basically didn't help and couldn' offer any meaningful fix.

these are pretty comfortable. The large dial for volume is also really good. The dial for noise amplification/cancellation - didn't really use it that much. I guess for the sake of symmetry is a nice design. The noise cancellation, wasn't as good as my friend's sony wm-1000xm3 or xm4s. But in a work from home, these are really solid. Bluetooth 5.2 with multi-device support is also really convenient. Mics are good for what they are, but still doesn't really compare to a dedicated microphone. if you can get these on sale like $200 or below and you don't need the VERY best noise cancellation, they would be awesome.

Great headphones! I have used this for about a month now and they are working great. The charge is holding pretty well. I use them about four to five hours a day and charge them every third day. The noise canceling works well to block out loud tv and music. Also the ear cushions are shaped perfectly for me.

Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews. I received these noise-canceling headphones and was a bit skeptical because others have not connected well, only connected close to the device, had buttons on the earpieces that were difficult to manage without looking so I was not sure what to expect with these. I was pleasantly surprised! These can not only connect to my laptop quickly but will simultaneously connect to my phone with no lag or issue. I can walk away from my laptop and still get great quality sound. I am an older woman (50+) and often have trouble fumbling with buttons on the earpieces that I can't see. These are intuitive and easy to adapt to. I have used them for movies, zoom meetings, and phone calls. The sound clarity is great and others can hear me just fine. The "noise-canceling" component is adequate. I have never had a pair before so I am not sure how "canceled" the noise should be. With nothing else playing, I can still hear sound but it is definitely greatly reduced. I guess for safety, it's best to be able to hear SOME sound! When music or a movie is playing, it's very hard to hear the outside world! I also like that each time you connect them, they tell you how much life is left. I have been using them off and on for several weeks and am still on my first charge. The case is sturdy (hard) material to protect them when traveling. There is a small pouch in the carrying case for the charging cord and directions (if you are like me and still need them even after using for a bit!). Overall, these are sturdy well-designed headphones. They sit comfortably on my big dome and don't slip off. The ear cushions are very comfortable as well.

Competitor to Bose/Sony Noise Cancelling Headphone

I looked at these headphones as a cheaper option compared to the Sony or Bose high end active noise cancelling headphones. A lower cost option was the Razer Opus @ $200 (really liked the sound on those, not comfortable for me during use). Headphones are overall light and comfortable. Earcups are soft, but like most over ear headphones, your ears will get warm/sweaty with longer use. Unfortunately, these headphones do not fold if that is important to you. Carrying case is slim (larger area but thin) so that it does pack easily. I personally notice some discomfort/ear pressure with active noise cancelling headphones, especially at high levels. I was looking specifically at headphones with adjustable ANC and like the adjustable levels on this headset (usually not available on cheaper headsets). Having passthrough/amplified sound as a setting is nice as well. I really like being able to use the dials on either side to adjust volume/ANC. Tapping for phone commands or to control music works fine. Have not tried the included Microsoft Office voice dictation feature but it is something I may use more frequently in the future. Multidevice connectivity is awesome - these are connected to my laptop and phone at the same time. To switch seamlessly between one and the other without doing anything to the headphones (just push play on the other device) is awesome. One personal quibble - sound overall is good, but does not seem to pop as much as I've had with other headsets. Currently playing with the equalizer in the companion app to adjust to my liking. Side note: Bluetooth headphones are not good for gaming headsets, get a dedicated wireless gaming headset instead. Due to problems with how Bluetooth communicates with other devices, sound quality will be poor. Did not realize this before my purchase, but did not buy these headphones for that reason.

The Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 have quickly become my favorite headphones due to their impressive noise cancelling capabilities and convenient volume knobs. The touch controls are not used as frequently, but the matte black color and good battery life are appreciated. The headphones have lasted through a full day of use, making them a reliable choice for a variety of situations. Overall, the Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 have exceeded my expectations and have proven to be a valuable addition to their audio equipment.

What makes these headphones enjoyable to use besides hours of comfortable use is the intuitive dial controls, and the Bluetooth multi-point technology that lets you connect to two devices at the same time. First the controls, the dials are simple: the right dial controls the volume, and the left side controls the noise cancelling/ambient noise amplification. Also, there is a on/off button and a mute button. The multi-point Bluetooth technology lets you connect to two devices at a time. Why would you need that? Well, to be frank, most people don't. But the satisfaction you get the first time you get a call while listening to music on your computer and you're able to switch to the call seamlessly-is. just. cool. I'm am not an expert. I'm an average user that gets a lot of functionality from these headphones. What I use these headphones for are meetings, music, phone calls, and gaming because I'm already connected to my computer so why not. My only criticism on these headphones are the touch controls on the sides of the headphones-which you can disable. That's it. The headphones come with a case that your headphones can lie flat in, and the case isn't too big considering they transport over the ear headphones. The range on these headphones is also notable: I get about 35 feet from one end of my house to the other through multiple walls. These headphones are one of the best buys I've made in 2021, and I would recommend them to anyone.

The best feature of these headphones is the auto-mute in Zoom when you take these off. Also, there is a physical mute button with an LED indicator that will toggle mute on Zoom as well!! Dials are the best ways to change the volume and ANC level. Passthrough and amplification work really well! The battery lasts around 18 hours, not the best compared to Sony but the other features make it better. The comfort of the cushions is soft and cushiony but solid so it want to get mushy over time. No hot spot issues on the headband of the headphones. The EQ in the app actually does stuff!! You can really dial your preference more so than other app-based EQs. In the app is where you get the updates and can change the paired devices. It can pair with a phone and computer (mac, windows, iPad). So when you turn on headphones it will tell you what you are connected to and how much battery in hours are left. GREAT FEATURE! Sound is clear, bassy, vibrant. I am not an audiophile, and this is not a headphone for audiphiles. They perform great!

I tried these headphones for about a week alongside the Sony XM4s. There is a lot to like here, and it really just depends on what you're looking for. To start, the build quality is very good. Nice materials, great matte black look that doesn't pick up fingerprints easily. They are a bit heavier than the XM4s, but they feel nice. The dials for volume and noise cancellation control are amazing and the one thing I wish was on more competing products. The only gripe there was that there was some slight play on the right volume wheel if just barely try to rock it back and forth, but nothing functional. Comfort-wise, they do the job, but the weight and less cushy headband make them a little less comfortable after a few hours than the XM4s. I usually am taking my headphones off anyway for a few minutes here and there, but there is some fatigue when trying to go through a large chunk of the workday. The voice assistant is great for giving you notifications on hours left of listening time, and the battery life of around 20 hours is just fine, although a bit less than the XM4s at around 30. The noise cancellation is very good, but it doesn't stand up to Sony's tech. I'd say the same about the sound. They sound just fine, but I constantly found myself going back to the XM4s as they are just more fun to listen to and have a much more vibrant and wide sound to them. The multi-device pairing worked as well as anything else I've tried. Switching between devices sometimes has a delay before the audio picks up, but it never failed to switch over when I was moving between my PC and my phone. Overall, I loved the build quality and feel of the Surface Headphones 2 along with their amazing dials on each side, but I ended up going with the XM4s due to the sound profile and noise cancellation being in a different league over there. Albeit for a much higher price.

These sound great and the ability to control the volume and noise cancelling by twisting the earcups is fantastic. The battery life is also good on them and the pairing process is very easy. I've had to contact Microsoft for support twice within the warranty period. The first because the rubber on the headband comes unglued and the edges start to come out. They first said this was normal wear and tear but once I explained that I can't really do anything to cause that, they sent me another pair. The second time was due to the headband breaking in half. One day I hear a crack as I was taking them off but on the outside they looked ok. A few days later while taking them off, the headband cracked right down the middle. It was only then that I realized the noise I heard before was an internal part of the headband breaking. It took some arguing to get a replacement pair because this was considered physical damage but me taking them on and off shouldn't cause them to snap. I also read up about this issue online and it seems like a decent amount of people have had this issue. Hopefully this new pair lasts a while.

Stellar controls. The right and left earphone dials is brilliant and works super intuitively. I also like the right phone tap that triggers music to turn on while playing games. The microphone is very clear, and the connection to a Windows PC was flawless. Battery life is long (16 hours at full charge), and I love the USB-C charging port and cord.

Good sound. Good comfort Good sound isolation. Even with air conditioner blasting. I don’t hear the ac and neither does the person I am talking to. Great for remote conferencing in Microsoft Teams. Best Bluetooth headset I have used when sharing between multiple devices like laptop and phone. However, phone, computer, or headset can still get out of sync. Spin controls are super cool. Touch controls for play/pause are good but can be a little inconsistent.

Pros: At least for me, they are really comfortable. I can wear them for hours on end not feel any pain on my ears or head. The base is superb, and the noise-canceling works extremely well. And being able to control the noise-canceling and volume with physical controls is awesome! Plus you can pair them with multiple sources (though only 2 are connected at any given time). Cons: The batteries don't last as long as advertised. I can get about 12 - 13 hours out of mine before I have to recharge them. That said, they only take about 30-40 minutes to charge fully. In addition, the touch area could use some work. I commonly have to try multiple times when tapping to pause to hit the right spot. Overall these really are fantastic headphones that just have a few hiccups to fix in the next version!

I love these. Finally decided to upgrade from my Sennheiser HD 558 and wanted something without a cable to get tangled. I'd say the sound quality one these is just as good, if not better. The noise cancellation is fantastic though. I can't even go back to my old headphones after using these. Even if I'm not listening to music, I keep them on when I'm at my computer just to block out background noise. The battery life is also very good, requiring charging once every 3 to 4 days even with heavy use. They also charger very quickly so I can get another hour or two of use after about 5 minutes of charging.

Very nice headphones, sit comfortably on your ears. If you have a bigger head, it might rub into your ears, but the soft earmuffs still make it pleasant. Sound is great, noise cancellation could be a bit better though. For the most part, it'll work just fine. But for those who have a lot of noise working from home, there's a bit that will creep in ! I'd still recommend these for the value you get!

I love the headphones. They work so well and they feel comfortable. Value-wise, these sound great for most people and come with cool features that other companies usually make you pay more for. Might get a 2nd pair for a friend. I also appreciate they have a good Windows 10 store application in addition to smartphone applications. The application is for equalizer options, setting up Cortana, device management, etc. I'm usually on my Surface Pro a lot, so it's nice to have a dedicated Windows 10 app, which other companies don't offer.
