I love Surface Laptop 2 because it is lightweight and perfect for mobile office use. The other great features I love about this product are : quick power on, task view (so we can continue working wherever we left off earlier), visually stunning graphics, the Outlook e-mail, the ability to sync smartphone, photo app, Bing search engine & paint /drawing app with 3D capability & mixed reality camera app. I gave the score of 4 because the battery depletes quickly ( though I didn’t count the # of hours) and the laptop heats up easily while using.

This laptop is really light, really fast, and is great if you're a student or just want something portable and compact that still looks and feels great. Even while carrying in a Spek sleeve,(definitely recommend getting a sleeve or case for this laptop!) it still fits in my backpack with room for textbooks, notebooks and more with some space to spare.
Typing experience is wonderful on this and the keys feel perfect, and are very quiet. The Alcantara makes for really comfortable typing and after a month, the Burgundy color shows no signs of palm marks or oil from my hands.
The aspect ratio is great for productivity, as I can comfortably fit nearly full textbook pages and word documents on the screen simultaneously.
The port selection is not a huge deal if you don't plug in lots of stuff. I only use USB A flash drives and head phones, so the lack of USB C hasn't affected me much.
Battery life has been good so far. I can easily stretch the battery life over a few days, using it for about 2-4 hours per day.
Aesthetically, this computer looks great and the Burgundy color is beautiful. The shiny Microsoft logo is pretty appealing and have received compliments on the look of this computer.
The touch screen works great, and supports the Surface Pen. While it isn't the same experience to write with as the Surface Pro, you can still make it work and works well to highlight sentences in textbooks etc and take brief notes.
I purchased this computer online and had it shipped to the store, and noticed that it had a small black scrape on the back hinge(straight out of the box) which is noticeable when the laptop is closed. The box was quite damaged and had a hole in it. It was sold out by the time I could actually exchange the product (when I picked it up) and I didn't want to settle for a different color, so I decided to keep it.
Overall, this is a great product with excellent build quality. It's a head turner for sure and works like a charm. Snappy, beautiful body and display, and wonderfully portable.

The Surface Laptop 2 really hits some high marks in it's category:
For Reference: I use this laptop for Microsoft Office, web browsing, video watching and music/podcasts. All of my points are centered around that context.
1) Display - Sharp, bright and beautiful colors! Great for reading, writing or watching whatever you're interested in.
2) Keyboard - The keyboard is the best. The Alcantara material makes for the best typing experience by keeping the surface comfortable. The keys are well placed and have great feedback. Awesome for anyone who types a ton for their job or hobby.
3) Battery life - Pretty good for a laptop, but this is HEAVILY dependent on what programs one is using. I get 8 hours easily and have touched 10 hours in battery saving mode.
4) Weight - It's light. Go in store and feel one for yourself. I have no issues carrying the laptop around one-handed, if needed. I do travel sometimes and it's nice to have something that isn't heavy.
5) Windows 10 - As a former Macbook Pro user, I love where Windows 10 has come in the last few years. The Surface line really shows off Windows 10 and how it should run. If you're an Apple user and need/want a Windows machine, but want a similar experience to what Apple provides, get a Surface product.
6) Trackpad - It's the best on any Windows computer I've ever used.
7) Ports - USB-A, Mini-display port, Surface connector. Honestly, this is the weakest part of the laptop. I think the right choice should've been: USB-A, USB-C and Surface Connector. Microsoft really missed the mark by adding the Mini Displayport. If I'm going to have to buy an adapter, at least allow the port im plugging the adapter into do other things besides output video.
Overall: 9/10. The over experience has been fantastic with my only real gripe being the addition of a mini displayport instead of a usb-c. I absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a simple laptop for Office, web browsing and general content consumption, but want a well-built computer for moderate-heavy use.

The Surface Laptop 2 is a great device. Here are my pros...
1. Lightweight and easy to carry around.
2. The screen is incredible, plus touch and pen support!
3. The keyboard is as good as they come on a laptop.
4. Quadcore processor has all the power I need
5. No Fan! - I despise fan noise, and this one has no fan and stays quiet.
6. The Alcantra fabric is a nice touch.
7. The Surface Dock compatibility makes working at my desk a breeze. With a little tweaking of the default settings, I can simply close my lid (put the computer to sleep) and throw it in my bag. When I get home I can put it on the dock and it wakes up without even opening the lid.
I see a lot of people complaining about the lack of USB-C but I"m not sure that would have made the laptop any better. I had a laptop with USB-C prior to this and it was unreliable. Maybe in a few more years, USB-C will be ready as a reliable replacement.
In short, this is a nice looking, powerful, and reliable laptop. One would be hard pressed to find a better alternative.

My 6 year old MacBook Pro was getting slow and too heavy to carry around so I needed a new laptop. I travel and move around the office often so I need a laptop that’s light and can do tasks such as browsing, watching videos, office work and light gaming. The Surface Laptop 2 meets all of my needs. Here are some of the pros and cons about the laptop
Pros:
- Really light weight, barely feel it when it's in the briefcase and really easy to carry it around both when opened and closed
- Fast start up times. Less than 5 seconds from pressing the power button to desktop screen if you don’t count the typing in the login info
- Sleek design. I’ve looked at several different laptops (hp, Lenovo, XPS..) and picked the Surface Laptop for its minimalist, sleek look
- Form factor. The surface is functional as well as looking good. It’s easy to carry, easy to open with one finger. And one thing I really like about the laptop is that it doesn’t slide when I open the laptop. Some laptops would slide back whenever I open the top, and the Surface does not
- Speed. Very fast boot time and handles everything I do effectively. I don’t do heavy gaming or intensive video editing so can’t comment on that, but it’s perfect for everyday use
Cons
- Only one USB drive. This becomes a problem when I use a mouse and I need to charge my phone while I’m on the road
- The charging port is small and located near the bottom of the laptop. It takes me several tries to connect the charging chord to the port, every single time
Overall it’s a very good laptop that meets my needs. Highly recommend

Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review! We're thrilled your Surface Laptop 2 is hitting all your marks for a quality work and travel device.
To address your USB port concerns, Microsoft has a Surface Arc Mouse that can connect to your Surface Laptop 2 via Bluetooth, which will free up that USB port for you to charge your phone. In addition, Surface Arc Mouse can lay flat which makes it a great travelling companion. If you would like to learn more, our friends at Best Buy have a Surface Arc Mouse here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-surface-arc-mouse-black/5859103.p?skuId=5859103.

My last laptop was a Lenovo Thinkpad t450s. Great display, fantastic display, good form factor (for 2015), and decent battery life. But about 2 years after getting it I was having trouble getting the screen to come on from sleep. I can't tell you how many hours I wasted searching for a solution.
After checking out a bunch of thin and light laptops I decided that the Microsoft Surface 2 Laptop seemed to have the right combination of features for me. A really nice touch screen display, good keyboard, fast quad core processor, and a small and lightweight form factor that seemed very solid.
The biggest drawbacks are probably the enormous amount of money Microsoft charges for units with more storage/memory, near impossibility of opening it up to upgrade, and the lack of a few pretty important ports such as thunderbolt and a SD card reader.
If it's still functioning in 3 years I'd call it 5 stars.

Amazing Casual Laptop

This laptop is absolutely stunning.
Let me start with the hardware, I orginally bought the cobalt blue and my god, did it look absolutely stunning, however, I switched it out for the black model and I'm even more impressed. It is so thin and light, making it perfect for traveling or students going class to class, like myself. The keyboard feels really nice to type on with nice responsiveness and the fabric alcantera palm rests are really comfortable and inviting.
Performance is awesome for casual people that want to surf the net or do very very light media editing. However, I am packing the I5 model and it excels and is fast at the tasks I do, which is word typing, power points, surfing the net, and reading online books. Media consumption is great too, however, there are black bars more present on this because of the 3:2 aspect ration. Amazing screen with very responsive touch too. Battery life is phenomenal, pulling in 8-9 hours of constant use on the internet, media consumption and Word typing.
I have only two gripes with the laptop:
Weak integrated GPU
Only 1 USB type-a port.
Long short is that, if you are a student or someone that is going to use it for browsing the internet or a lot of typing and dont mind the 1 USB port, then this laptop is for you.

I bought this laptop for my wife, whose 10 years old Sony Vaio finally called it quits. As far as I can tell, she is very happy with it. It is light, attractive to look at, has a very good screen, and very good battery life. She likes the unique design (the palm rest is covered in a gray fabric of sorts), and it was a major selling point for her (being design-conscious). Best Buy had a very good promotion at the time of our purchase - we paid the same as we would have paid for the same laptop with half the RAM and SDD space. Overall - no complaints, but we have been using it for only a month.

I have spent a few days with this laptop and I must say that it is a gorgeous laptop. The surface laptop 2 is the perfect laptop for most people. It is a great device for everyday use to work in MS Office, check email, webs surfing and some moderate video or photo editing.
I purchased this laptop for my work needs and it covers all areas that I need it for. I had the SP6 and while I loved that device, this was the better fit for me. I loved the experience that I had with the surface pro 6, it was fast, light, portable and versitile. However, when I removed it from my 27" HP monitor, it showed its one real drawback. The screen size! The screen is gorgeous and amazing to look at, however, when using MS Office the lack of screen size makes everyday use a bit challenging. I needed something that was just a portable as the SP6 and offered the same gorgeous display in an elegant design. That is where the Surface Laptop 2 comes in. I love the 3:2 aspect ratio screen and the 13" is perfect when wanting to work at a coffee shop on the couch. You just get so much more viewing area and that to me was enough to make the switch to the Surface Laptop 2. The performance is the same as the SP6 and I have experienced slightly better battery life with the SL2.
The alcantara keyboard is holding up well, although this is something that I am going to be very cautious about since I purchased the black model. I just loved the color and design on this color SL2 over the silver, blue and burgundy. Only time will tell how the alcantara will hold up and from my extensive reviews, it should hold up just fine. The black SL2 is just gorgeous and an amazing well crafted laptop.
The typing experience on the SL2 is just far better then what I was experiencing on the SP6. The keyboard is solid and has great key travel, it feels just well build and makes sending emails and using MS Office just a joy. I did like the SP6 type cover, although after using it for over two weeks, I just hated the hollow sound that keyboard made. I am always on the phone and my clients could hear me typing when I was taking notes. It is a small annoyance, but enough for me to consider the SL2 typing experience.
The speakers are also a huge plus on the SL2. They are LOUD!! Sound amazing and I find myself playing music on here more than on any other device I have (bluetooth speaker or iphone).
So far, I am incredibly happy with my purchase of the SL2 laptop. I am looking forward to using it extensively for work and personal use. Another reason why I went with the SL2 over the SP6 was that I was hearing rumors that the SP6 was going to get a major refresh in 2019. I could see that happening as the form factor of the surface pro has been mainly unchanged for a number of years now. The SP6 could use thinner bezels, updated ports and a slightly better typecover/typing experience. With that said, it was another reason for me to switch to the SL2 over the SP6. I will look to buy a new Surface Pro device once it is refreshed as I loved it that much, but for right now in 2018, the SL2 just made more sense for me.
I can't wait to see what else Microsoft has up its sleeve in 2019.

This lightweight laptop is great for people who are looking for something that is easy to use, elegant looking, quick, great visuals, has a lot of storage. This laptop is perfect to carry around because it is super light and it looks so professional! Especially with its touch screen. You can type with one hand while removing an ad on the screen with your other finger. Multitasking has never been easier until my purchase of The Surface Pro 2. This laptop is definitely a game changer.

The Surface Laptop 2 runs fast, feels comfortable, types well, and doesn't die (as long as I have it fully charged at the start of the day). I use this for school and it works amazingly. It's very light so I never feel like I'm lugging a big flat brick around; the felt-like material around the trackpad is comfortable for my wrists to rest on as I type; the keys have a low profile to help type smoothly; the battery lasts throughout my school day as long as I make sure it's fully charged before heading to class.
The only downfall to this laptop for me is that I can't really utilize the touch screen since it can't lie flat. For this reason I will eventually switch to the Surface Pro 2. Taking chemistry or o-chem notes would be much easier with a tablet-mode that allows the screen to lie flat on a hard surface. That being said, this laptop is amazing for writing up papers and reports, so anyone looking to types up notes or papers often would love this laptop.

Microsoft created an almost perfect clamshell computer. After purchasing both a MacBook Pro and Microsoft Surface Laptop 2, I decided to keep Surface for my personal use. Here are some things you should consider;
Pros
-Much better pricing
-Fantastic looking and responsive touchscreen
-Best keyboard in the entire market ( mind you I have an X1 carbon as a work laptop)
- Snappy and responsive processor and enough ram to multitask.
-oldschool MacBook type magnet charger
-incredibly lightweight and beautiful design
Cons
- integrated graphics card is not beefy for gaming
- no thunderbolt io
After all do not compare this to MacBook Pro if you are looking to get a computer for video editing or such heavy workload but instead compare to Mac book air. It’s definitely a winner even though I own an I phone and Apple integration could have been much more fluid.
