Warning! Do Not Buy! This computer has well known screen cracking issue, google "surface 2 hair crack" and you will find tons of reports for that. The screen will crack by itself due to design flaw. My six months unit unfortunately got same issue and guess what, Microsoft service dept want $599 for fixed the screen. Lesson learned and over $1000 wasted. Save your hard earned money and stay away from this computer!

I wish I could've given more but MICROSOFT SUCKS! I love this little laptop when I first got it I've had it for 7 months and it developed a hairline fracture on the screen. The company knows that there's a problem with a fracture on the screen and they refuse to fix it. The hairkine crack turn into a major crack. I'm so upset that this is what happened to my screen. Speed is fine. Battery life gets worse.

I bought this computer for school which I have things due today. Which I obviously don’t know how I’m going to get down now! and it’s been nothing but problems from the start. I read reviews about people having problems but didn’t listen. I have already given it many chances from it going black when it’s charging to now it went dark out of nowhere while using. it keeps letting me down!!!! The laptop will Randomly go to the darkest setting and will not light up! It’s still on but you can’t see that until you place it under a light. Very very dim straining my eyes to see the off button. But even restarting the laptop has no effect. I’m done with this! Not even a year I’ve owned it! $3000 dollar piece of trash!

I absolutely loved my computer. I would give it a 4 1/2 out of 5 if I could! I have only 2 negative things to say: 1) it gets extremely hot if I charge it and use it at the same time and 2) after 4 yrs it just never turned back on again. Motherboard failure and all my data is gone. Heartbroken to say the least. Other than that it is an amazing laptop! It failing can happen to any laptop so don’t be worried this will happen only to this brand. I use it mainly for school work and between storage & function, it has been great! Not turning back on out of nowhere still has me perplexed. My advice for any brand of laptop- BACK UP YOUR WORK/DATA TO ONEDRIVE!

I did lots of research after my MacBook from 2013 died and I’m so glad I switched from Apple products to this. The touch screen is really nice and the keys are comfortable for typing. It is so light and thin and the shape/design is really great. I saw some comments about this computer getting hot when you work on it for a while and being able to hear the fans but I haven’t had that problem yet and have spent several days on work from home meetings all day. This is a great computer for students and those doing every day work on a computer. The only con is the price point is a bit high but comparing to Apple products it’s a deal for what you get.

I had been looking for a while for a replacement to my 2015 MacBook Pro and went to Bestbuy to purchase a brand new Macbook Pro M1. While waiting for one of the apple specialist I wondered over to the Surface Display and started playing with this laptop. When I saw the price and the fact it had a magnetic charging port like my old macbook I figured let me buy it and give it a try as I could always return it. I'll never go back to a MacBook Pro again, this laptop is super quick, windows Hello us awesome and very fast and the touchscreen, I didn't think I would even use a touchscreen but wow I use the heck out of it for scrolling and zooming in on things. While I could do a this with my trackpad on my Mac it's not that same as doing it on the screen. Speaking to screens it's super sharp, very colorful and BRIGHT. I also like the aspect ratio of the surface vs. all the other widescreen laptops. For what I do on my laptop this aspect ratio works better for me. I also like how you can charge via USB-C and the overall build quality is as good as my MacBook plus it's lighter as well. The thermals seems to be better as well as my MacBook would sometimes cook my legs but my surface has stayed nice and cool the entire time. The fans are also very quiet and I only notice them being in when I feel a slightly warm breeze pass over my knee. The only thing better on my MacBook is the trackpad, the one on the surface is good but it's a flip style one so if your trying to click towards the top good luck. No laptop maker can beat apples trackpad so not really a con of this surface as it's th same for all non-apple laptops. Battery life has been pretty good as well, I get many hours of use before I need to charge. The charger this comes with is nice and compact and even has a USB-A socket you can plug stuff into.

Very pleased with this MS Surface Laptop 3 so far. Very light, solid fit/finish, looks great. Love that I can open the lid with just one hand without the whole unit flipping. Very quick start up. Wake up with facial recognition is a great feature...works every time. Charges full in the blink of an eye. Processor seems snappy....unit only lags a little when in total battery saver mode. NO bloatware that I have found. Slightly overpriced compared to the competition, but the reviews were better so I pulled the trigger.

    Minor Preferences Could Change

This is a really good computer. It works fast and the storage is great. I love how sleek and lightweight it is and is perfect for school/backpack use. One thing I would like to see from the laptop is a number pad. There is only numbers/characters at the top and none in calculator format next to the mouse. A minor issue of preferences though. It is a little bit limited as there's only a USB, type C, and jack. There's no port for HDMI uses, nor a disc tray, though I know that's pretty outdated for almost all computers nowadays. I do wish the charger were different. There is no port for a typical charging cord, only the specific Microsoft Surface cord, which I've found needs replacing fast and is very expensive. Use your warranty! lol Overall a great computer though!

As a teacher, with the shift to online learning I wanted to update to a newer computer that could handle all the work I would be doing on it, and that would not break my back lugging it around. This fit all of that criteria! I use my laptop to create worksheets, hold online video chats, edit photos and more. I have not had any trouble with it so far. I am able to use this computer with multiple tabs open for many hours before having to charge it. It is lightweight and easy to carry back and forth to school and with the gorilla glass screen I do not have to worry that I am going to crack the screen while doing so. This computer is easy to type on and the track pad does not get in the way. My only complaint is that I wish there was more USB ports as I have many items I usually plug into my computer. I was able to buy an adapter to plug in though which solved that problem. Overall I love this computer and it has been well worth the money.

I've had a Surface Pro 4 for a couple of years and the only reason I felt it time for something new was because I cracked the screen and the battery isn't what it used to be. It actually still works very well when plugged in but, alas, time for a new one. So, I dropped big dollars on the Surface Laptop 3, Intel i5, 8GB, 256 SSD and expected it to be amazing since my lesser version was amazing. Touchscreen is fantastic, speed is great, everything was just what I wanted... and then within the first week it happened - the screen froze. Since it was the first time I laughed it off... "haha, a $1k+ laptop freezing on me.. must be a fluke". I looked up how to unfreeze it and was on my merry way. (FYI - Holding the power key and Volume up at the same time for about 10 seconds will perform a restart). Then it happened again. And again. And again. It happened daily and, at times, multiple times a day. So on to the Microsoft blogs I went and found out this happens to a lot of people and if you talk to Microsoft they give you generic answers. (e.g., restart using the trick I mentioned, check for updates, etc.). Someone posted a fix that worked for them by clearing their cache (done regularly anyway) and this part is what is the real fix, at least for me; increase your virtual memory. Link on how to do that is below. Anyway, there is a minimum suggested amount of virtual memory which is not set by default. My setting was much less. I changed the setting to force an increased amount to just above the minimum recommended on the same screen where you make the update and the maximum to twice that amount and I've not had a freeze since. (Granted it's only been a couple of days testing this but I use this thing a lot throughout the day and it would have frozen on me multiple times by now.) Had this computer came the way it should have and not frozen - definitely 5 stars! I'm back to loving this thing completely but still 4 starred this review to get people to see the potential issue. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/how-to-increase-virtual-memory-in-windows-10-a/46dacaf5-15cf-4f5d-9d5a-cba1401ae4c9

Good laptop. Love its small size and light weight, makes it very portable. I’ve had it for a little over two years now and it’s held up well. Giving it four stars because the battery life has decreased significantly despite taking proper care of it. I can run it for about 2 hours before it runs out. And that’s without doing any heavy work on it, just light internet browsing and some YouTube watching. Overall, it’s good for the price. Would recommend as a laptop for every day use, not any heavy work like editing video, coding etc.

Should combine areas of surface pro to laptop

I switched from a surface pro to the laptop and really enjoy the bigger screen, larger keyboard area, and ability to use as a normal laptop. The only drawbacks I do see is the position of the charging port makes it quite difficult to connect, unlike the surface pro where it was on the screen area and easier to connect. Small bother i know, but it makes a difference. Also, it does not have an expandable micro SD slot like the surface pro And there is no designated area for the surface pen, it just dangles akwardly on the front of the laptop. It works great though, I havent had any issues with it and is built very well. It is quick, boots up fast, and very light and sleek. Just wish they would make a magnetic area for the surface pen that I bought for 80 bucks

Premium device for a premium price

I had mixed results with this device but overall it was a decent machine. This was intended to be my mobile machine for grad school. This is my first windows machine in a few years and my first portable windows device since my Surface Pro 3 in 2014. It was replacing the higher tiered MBP 13, which had issues in its own right for sure. Pros- -Fast at everything I tested it for: multiple Office apps, browser tabs, and pdf files. -Windows 10/One Drive is better than the last time I used a PC at all since about 5 years ago. -Looks incredible. Matte black is a great look, this was one of the most attractive devices I've seen. -Keyboard is the best I've typed on from any portable device or desktop device. Front to back slope was perfect for me. This would have been a comfortable way to type a couple hundred pages of research. -Screen is sharp, large at 13.5, and touch provided some conveniences. -1 of each port and a proprietary charging port is nice compared to Macbooks of comparable pricing. You don't really need a dongle and you don't lose a port for charging. Plus the power brick as a usb port on it and a flat cord. These are nice touches for a premium feel. Cons- -Mine always had issues with the camera. I went through about 15 hours of trouble shooting, tech support, reinstall of every level, and countless restarts to try and fix this. Facial recognition had about a 50% success rate. The camera app was functional less than that. Maybe it's an issue with the FR software, maybe it was just my unit. -Premium price. I only bought this one because was at great sale price and I hate the material of the less expensive one. I don't use 256gb worth of storage on portable devices. So for 1300 does it have the same value for more space and the all metal body? That's up to you but consider the comparable Macbook Air for the same price; almost identical processor, twice the storage, but a slightly smaller screen without touch. -The finish was incredible looking but attracted dust like no other. -The surface pen is nice and the touch screen is convenient but it would the form limits the function of it for those who might be interested or tempted in using these features full time. I ended up exchanging mine. I just don't feel a 1300 laptop should require a part time job worth of trouble shooting to get a camera working. This is pretty basic in 2020. Maybe had this not happened I would have kept it and been happy, but somewhere around hour 2 it occurred to me that I could find a windows machine with the same performance and touch functionality for half the cost. I would still recommend the device for some folks but if you are a student or on a budget keep researching your options.

I was debating between this (i5, 8gig, 256gig 13.5") and 2 other devices. The new laptop go, and the surface pro 7, all 3 having the same general specs. I ended up getting this because there was a black friday sale with this model on sale for $999 instead of $1299. So for the price point this was the better option. Not to mention this is probably the best looking and feeling laptop on the market in my and many ppls opinion. The things that impress me the most are the speakers. the keyboard, the touchpad, and the high quality screen. It is still very portable and has the touch screen with pen option. face recognition, and backlit keyboard. all metal finish. This is the highest quality laptop i have ever owned and i am 35 years old and have had many laptops. I say all this in regards to it being $999... If it wasnt this price, I would have went with either the laptop go or the pro 7. This being said I would recommend this pc to anyone doing light daily tasks and web browsing/media streaming. There really isnt anything to complain about. The battery life is also really great with fast charging ability.

This was a great gift as an early Christmas present. The keyboard was easy to use with big fonts. The display is very clear. The laptop is light, compact that fits in a woman's handbag or matching color laptop case. The purchase comes with Microsoft Office Home edition and Windows 10 Home installation were quick and easy. The price is reasonable at the time of the purchase. I highly recommend Surface 3 laptop to anyone for general productivity.

I just got a Surface Laptop 3. Here are my thoughts: Display: I really like it. I don’t really get why it’s a touch screen. It’s not a 2 in 1 and It’s a little awkward to use it as a touch screen. I like the aspect ratio and resolution. I wish it got a little brighter, but its a good, inoffensive display. Keyboard: Its the best laptop keyboard in a laptop. Period. Better than Apple's new magic keyboard. Build: Mine is all aluminum without the alcantara. Build is top notch for a Windows laptop. Matt Black looks great, but is a finger print magnet. Mine creeks a little when you hold it certain ways. Apple still has it beat in fit and finish. Trackpad: It’s great, once you get used to it. The top doesn't really click, the center and lower have a satisfying "click" and the bottom right registers as a right click. It’s really nice feeling and it’s nice to have a dedicated right click. Apple's track pad is still a little better feeling, but I think the Surface has better functionality. I would like it if it were a little bigger. Battery: Average at Best. I have been doing my work training on it and the battery seems to drain a little quicker than it would on my MacBook. but I feel like I could make it through the day if I lowered the brightness. Performance: My model is the base processor i5 1035 and G7 graphics with 8GB of ram. I would have preferred to get 16GB of ram, but Microsoft made 16GB only available with the i7 and I Just didn’t want to spend $1600. I plan on using this laptop to finish my degree, which will be your standard mix of writing and video conferencing. I will need to use virtual machines for some of my classes, but I have a desktop if I really did need more power. Biometrics: Windows hello is pretty awesome. It’s crazy fast to the point where you don’t really see the lock screen. I’m a big fan of face unlock and this is just better than fingerprint scanners. Final thoughts: I think Microosft really nailed the ultrabook. It’s a really lightweight, well designed machine with decent port selection, a good screen, great keyboard and trackpad with better specs than the base 2020 MacBook Pro, which is obviously the Surface Laptop 3’s main competitor. If you don’t need MacOS and don’t care about the Apple ecosystem, this is the Windows thin and lite to get .
