Customers are delighted by the Surface Laptop Studio's performance, innovative design, and ample RAM, frequently praising its power and ease of use. However, some users express concerns regarding battery life, the limited number of USB ports, and the device's weight. The screen size and its susceptibility to display issues were also mentioned as potential drawbacks. Overall, the positive feedback on performance and design outweighs the negative comments on other features.

I have had this for 5 days. I have a 16" MacBook which performs well but I need a Nvidia GPU for CUDA programming and a stylus for teaching, so I got this laptop. I genuinely like this laptop and wish I could keep it, but there are a few serious flaws that are hard to fix and will make me return it.
Pros
+Great stylus accuracy (useful for teaching online & in person. I can write equations shown on a projector, and teach coding on visual studio at the same time.)
+Great 3:2 screen aspect ratio for editing documents.
+Better keyboard and haptic trackpad than most laptops
+10nm Intel processor
+Nvidia GPU good for gaming, CUDA programming and machine learning
+Thunderbolt 4 ports, finally!
Cons
-The Nvidia GPU board keeps drawing 10 Watts of power even on idle. This drains the battery quite fast. Hot air is blown out of the vents and onto my hands even on idle. I have not been able to fix this, even by reinstalling Windows, and will probably have to return the laptop for this reason. Windows + Nvidia Optimus should turn off the discrete GPU and just use the integrated Intel GPU on battery power, but this does not happen.
-No DisplayPort via USB-C to HDMI adapter on the market (including Microsoft's) can output 4K@60Hz on an external monitor from this laptop. I only get 30 Hz and tried a dozen dongles (all of which work on a macbook). The only way to get 4K@60Hz is to use an expensive Microsoft Dock 2 or to connect a DisplayPort over USB Type-C cable directly to the monitor, if the monitor supports it (mine does, but if you have only HDMI, you are out of luck).
-4 core processor not enough for scientific computing. My 2019 Intel i9 MacBook has 8 cores and is twice as fast in matrix multiplication.
-The trackpad is not very precise when I drag the cursor with the tip of my finger. It jumps and wiggles slightly when I drag it on a straight line. I find myself having to correct where the cursor lands using the keyboard when text editing. This is annoying.
-Even if you buy the expensive business version with the Nvidia A2000 GPU, the GPU only has 4GB or RAM. The older Surface Book 3 business version had a 6GB Quadro GPU. This is important, esp. considering the business version cost.
-When I close the lid and let the laptop sleep overnight, and I open it in the morning, it has shut down, and takes 5-7 minutes to boot, showing a big thick circle with the windows logo, as if it is setting up windows for the first time. My macbook sleeps and wakes instantly. Why can't Microsoft get this right?
-The pen is accurate, but the eraser is not. On Microsoft OneNote, the eraser appears on the side of the eraser instead of being centered, making it hard to erase where you intend to, or erasing the wrong thing.
-No replacement nibs available for the slim pen 2. Seriously? When the nib wears out, I need to buy a new pen?
-The battery is not replaceable or serviceable. If it dies, Microsoft will replace the whole laptop if under warranty. Out of warranty, the laptop dies along with the battery. That is environmentally irresponsible, and unethical considering the cost of the laptop.
-Led backlight does not have good black levels. Black looks gray.
-Horribly glossy screen. Needs an anti-glare coating. If I wanted to see myself I would get a mirror. See the photo. Does Microsoft ever use their products?
Overall, I like the laptop, but the flaws are too serious to justify the price tag. Some of the issues may be fixed with software updates. I hope Microsoft will see this feedback and address the issues. Otherwise, I will wait for a gen 2 or gen 3 of this product.

I work in a design field so I was looking for a gaming laptop to achieve a decent graphic card but the Bestbuy store rep successfully convinced me to buy this one. And I love the size, weight, aesthetic and performance. If I point out only one thing, there are only 2 USB-C ports on this laptop. So I always have to carry dangling USB hubs.
I tried hard to find any direct plug one, but there is no accessory on the market which fits on this product without the integral cable.

Needed a video editing laptop. This one has been pretty decent so far. It feels great to type on, and it will be great to use when traveling. Looks great and feels great to use. Downsides are the graphics card, which might perform better once I upgrade it, but also the ports. Would’ve been nice to have an SD card slot at the least, and maybe one USB-A. Overall I like it a lot though.

Absolutely love this laptop. It is very versatile with its touch screen which can be folded over the keyboard, making doing art or taking notes easy, especially with the stylus which works with the laptop excellently. The stylus sticks magnetically to the bottom of the laptop where it is charges, which is very convenient. However, the magnet isn't super strong, so I have unfortunately lost the stylus after nearly loosing it multiple times. If purchasing the stylus, I would recommend storing it separately in a case or bag rather than on the laptop.
The processer and RAM i purchased this laptop with can handle any game I throw at it and then some. It does struggle to stay cool if the sides are covered as they often are when I play games with it in my lap, but this can be easily avoided by setting it on a table or desk instead.
Truly a laptop that does absolutely everything. I love the hard keyboard as compared to other surface models, and the subsequent sturdiness of the design, which allows for it to be used as both a laptop and a tablet. I love the charger, which is flat and magnetic.
The only issues I've had with this laptop has come from the grips at the bottom, which after around a year of heavy use have come off. They seem to be partially magnetic and partially glued, and the adhesive used hasn't held up over time. I will likely clean off what's left of the adhesive and put new grips on. The other issue I have is with battery life, which leaves something to be desired but isn't too bad.
All in all, I would highly recommend the surface studio laptop.

OK, I've had the device for less than 24 hours. So, this is by far not an accurate review. I will come back and update it after 2 weeks or so.
But, so far, I love this device. The screen is a perfect size. Love the 3:2 ratio. And, contrary to what I had heard about pulling the screen forward to tent it or make it a tablet...easy peesy. No problems for me.
Holding it as a portrait tablet...yes, it is bulk and heavy (4 lbs). But, I can manage. And, it's just a great experience. Edge works wonderfully, virtual keyboard is great and enhanced in Windows 11. Really loving that.
Speed is totally fast. No lag. Haven't done a whole lot above Edge, Office apps, but I'd love to try Flight Simulator on this...
The ports are good. The trackpad is definitely growing on me.
Again, I will update this after a few weeks. But so far, it's wonderful!

I hate writing reviews so soon after getting a product but that's how Best Buy does it.
I replaced my 4 year old Surface Book 2 with this 14" Surface Studio. I use it for a combination of work, home functions, and mostly for digital art. The laptop works as advertised. It is fast, well built, and beautiful to look at. A substantial performance upgrade from my previous computer (which was a strong performer) this machine is just refined. The hinged top is very functional and smooth, the transition from computer to drawing pad is just seconds. I would recommend some type of stand to hold your Studio laptop of you draw, it's tough to get a good angle without one. The pen storage area underneath the front ledge is perfect and the new Surface pen is brilliant. In short, it's a very fast and powerful general purpose PC that excels in the digital art area, there is just no competition that can touch this machine in this area. No regrets, after one month, have had zero issues and have loved every second of creating on this awesome machine. Microsoft has pulled ahead of Apple in the hardware department IMHO (fit, finish, quality).

I am a creative professional It was powerful enough to run all my programs and small enough to take with me anywhere. I sometimes with it had one or two more ports, but this is okay.
The video for business meetings is great.
I have the stylus, also. I do like the touchscreens capabilities, but even though I paid $120 for the stylus, it is not has sophisticated as I would like. It is easy to use your fingers when doing normal things.

A screaming laptop with 32GB. A little heavy but not a big deal for me since I do not tote is around every day and what you would expect with discreet graphics card, extra memory and larger storage. The touch screen is awesome. One reason I did not go with a new Mac Pro. The screen is so nice with 120hz refresh rate that it has truly stunning graphics for movies and video games. The graphic art capabilities rival larger graphic tablets and touchscreen computers for commercial art. The slim pen (sold separately) is very fluid with no noticeable latency. The three position screen is unique and very functional in all positions. Price was less than a new Mac Pro with equal specs. Worth every dollar in my opinion. I run dual monitors with an HDMI adapter. I am very happy with my purchase.

I upgraded from the Surface Book 3 since that laptop gave me such a headache with all of its issues. This laptop is like a breath of fresh air in comparison. Getting the most RAM and better storage was definitely worth it.
I was able to successfully use the tablet portion without sacrificing Graphics Card capability. I use Computer Assisted Drafting programs (AutoCAD, Vectorworks), and this machine runs them super well.
My only drawback is battery life. It does not live as long as I'd like it to, and I hope this isn't an issue with my specific unit. It usually gives me no more than four hours of battery life. And this will be with me not doing anything intensive, but web browsing and video streaming. Not gaming or 3D Rendering.
Also, the lack of ports is a bummer. Sure, I own docks and such, but just having one USB-A Port makes a world of difference.
So overall, strong machine, and I highly recommend it. (Also, if you need a stylus, get the Slim Pen 2. It fits so nice in the notch underneath.)

This unit has the feel of quality. Standard uses are straight forward. The screen is great, the keyboard has nicer than most feel. I have only doodled with the pen so far but great feedback. Bought the accessory block for HDMI output and the production is really good. Although not the reason for purchase I got curious about gaming so bought a Bluetooth xbox controller (painless connection) and logged into Destiny 2 online. Almost immediately the fan(s) kicked in and for me they stayed on during the time I was gaming. On your lap it’s pretty warm but not unbearable. Frame rate was very smooth, aside from fan noise it handled the video load very well. I noticed the battery charge drains pretty quick in this fan running game mode - not sure it will allow much more than three-four hours of gaming but I decided to plug it in rather than find out. At this point (about a month) I am happy with this laptop.
