It’s great. My only regret was I thought I could pass on the key board. Not only is it functional as a key board but also as a protective shell and it’s like but a tuxedo on the my Surface Pro 7. Love it

Ordered for my New Surface 3; details noted it fits my tablet but it does not. Keyboard should pop up but it doesn’t. It lays flat. It does however snap into place. Hard to type in flat position.
Package was thrown out this unable to return.
Ugh.

Keyboard broke after 6 months!

I bought this as a replacement for my original that stopped working after 4 years. Within 6 months the board has already broken. The magnetic strip has ripped off and I have to push it back together and constantly have to rub it so it stays in keyboard mode. I have been struggling and working with it the last few months but now I am over it! I am not please as I am in school and haven't been able to afford a new one quite yet. Looks like I have to buy another $150 keyboard for this tablet....Lets hope this one doesn't break too.

this is definitely the best keyboard for your surface. fit and finish is perfect. magnet is very positive to your surface pro. the material is nice to the touch and surprisingly easy to keep clean. I had a third party Bluetooth keyboard and at first it seemed perfect because I did not have to have it attached to the surface pro like this keyboard. BUT it does not put the tablet to sleep. because the surface pro did not go to sleep it would drain my battery for both the pro and the bluetooth keyboard.
I switched to this and never looked back. Plus with the FINGERPRINT ID it makes logging into to certain apps very easy. no more having to adjust your face or surface pro to recognize your face.
the keys themselves have a new feel. the keyboard has backlighting which I thought was just a gimmick but it really helps at night. and most of all all the special functions on this keyboard works flawlessly. volume control. illumination of the keyboard keys. brightness controls for the screen.

It's pretty great. The keyboard feels solid and I don't have any fear of it coming detached. The keys are responsive and I like it better than those butterfly keyboards that MacBooks have. Also, I like the fact that with just my finger, I can unlock my surface!

A surprisingly good keyboard and easier log-in

I've had both this and the standard Surface Pro 2017 type cover. Both are surprisingly great keyboards for how light they are. Are they replacements for a great mechanical keyboard for gaming or banging out a dissertation? No, but few laptop keyboards are and this is even more portable. The backlighting is inobtrusive and a nice feature for working in darkened rooms. The key feel and rebound is good and touch typing works well; I haven't taken a speed test on it but feel that I'm hitting a good portion of my typical WPM. If you type with a heavier keystroke, you can also use it with the keyboard resting flat (the connector is actually along the Surface edge, not the magnet that holds it propped up).
Now...is it worth more than the standard one to get the fingerprint spot? Windows Hello makes use of biometrics to log in much easier - I have another laptop with a fingerprint reader and decided I wanted one for the Surface too, as I frequently lock my PC during the day (I use this for business) and fast unlock is huge. The reader here isn't quite as fast / accurate as the other fixed laptop and it sometimes takes a second read to unlock but on balance it's still much better than typing my password 10-15x a day. If you don't frequently lock your computer or don't find yourself typing your password a lot, you can save some cash and get the type cover without the reader. But if you're like me, getting this one will save you a lot of time each day.

The black keyboard is the best. Its keys are easy touch compared to the blue keyboard sold for the surface. The colored keyboards required more pressure to type on the keys. The back-lighting is a plus. The fingerprint recognition makes me feel secure for the sensitive work stored on the surface. Flexible enough to turn over. Easy on easy off attachment.

I got this keyboard for my Surface, but with the facial recognition, there is no real need for the fingerprint reader. I think that Microsoft is being cheap by not including a complete package with the Surface Pro (Pen and Keyboard). I think that it is overpriced and inconsistent in that it will disconnect all the time. The Black shows everything, including sweat from your hands. It is a must have device for the Surface, but Microsoft needs to include it with the computer.

I bought this so I didn't or wouldn't have to use the touchscreen as often. I just don't like getting smudges or fingerprints on it. I find having a keyboard is also faster to type. It has a fingerprint scanner for logging in to you Surface which is easy to hook up. The one thing though is that you have to put your finger in the exact same position to log in. Aside from that this is worth it.
It also flips up to act as a screen protector/cover which is nice when you are traveling. The buttons are just flush so they wont be hitting your screen when its folded up. It also locks your surface when you flip it up.

I bought this along side with my surface pro and have to say liked it better than my old macbook that I owned last year. I love the fact that they keys are easy going and not hard to press. Makes fast typing very easy and it has a built in finger print reader for windows login.

This case works as designed to however I believe Microsoft made the mistake of putting this soft touched fabric as the cover. Fine, where the keys go I understand but really...the bottom?!?! Where you lay the laptop on sometimes dirty places?! I think that's a horrible choice but whatever, keyboard works fine.

Microsoft nailed it. I love the functionality and the versatility of this keyboard. It fits great and provides the ideal companion to this PC. The tablet mode is great, but I use the Surface most often as my computer. But, I love the use of the mouse here on the keyboard, the fingerprint ID function, and even the touch of the keys. Great product. Very worth the price.

Face the Facts... You Need A Keyboard

The Surface Pro Type with Fingerprint ID may be my most favorite Surface Pro accessory.
As wonderful and amazing as the Surface Pro is... the majority of users want a keyboard interface. They want it either because they need the reassurance of tactile feedback when typing or they hate seeing smudges on their screen. Either way you need and will purchase a Surface Type Cover. Microsoft offers they Type cover in many different colors with or without different features built in like the Fingerprint ID.
The primary reason I choose the Surface Pro Type Cover with Fingerprint ID is I am key in so many different passwords in a day that having one less sounds absolutely devine. Plus I don't like using the Face-ID features from Microsoft (feel free to comment wifh all your conspiracy theories below).

The keyboard on this type cover feels much better than the original as the keys are spaced further apart. The fingerprint reader is very responsive and I can login to my Surface Pro 3 much faster. I would like to use the fingerprint reader to login to other websites, but have been unable to do so so far.
