I couldn’t wait for this set. I know it gets a bad rep, but it depends how the person. For me the LOTR trilogy is my favorite of all-times. I own them on standard Blu-ray. The Hobbit trilogy I’ve only seen the first 2 films. I don’t own them in any format and did not see the final film at all. So this is the Ultimate box set for me. All in 4K physical & 4K digital for all 6 films. 6 for the extended versions and 6 for the theatrical versions. I was surprised they come up as 12 films when I redeemed the codes. The box itself is nice. Would have preferred steel book cases for each film, but it’s not like they’d be displayed out the box, which in itself can be displayed in numerous ways. I would recommend to any fan of these films that don’t already own them. Or those that was to experience them in 4K.

Wow, just Wow! If you're a fan of these movies, or just want the best current audio and video presentation of them...this should be in your collection. I run a 4k monitor backed up by a 9.2 channel audio system with a high-end physical media player. It will be a little while before I get to watching all of these, but my experience has been truly awesome thus far. From the moment I dropped in the first disc and the opening scene began, I was very happy with my purchase. The audio is crisp, clean and open with a spacial presence you have to hear to appreciate. The video is no slouch either. My player, as well as my monitor, both can upscale HD input to 4k, and do a pretty good job. I have to admit, I wasn't quite prepared for the experience I enjoyed. The native 4k content exploded across the screen, the vibrant colors and breathtaking clarity are absolutely amazing. All the extra features are a really nice touch also, all in all a solid collection of "Middle Earth" related goodies. I'm sure that someday the audio/video standards will advance to yet a higher plateau of capability. For right now though, this is as good as it gets, there isn't a better way to view these movies and I'm absolutely thrilled to have this set as part of my collection. If you're old-fashioned like me and still like physical media, and these movies, stop thinking about it and take the plunge...your senses will thank you.

There's currently no better way to watch these masterpieces, but it's also hard to call this "essential". Not entirely sure who this is directed at; for the "Ringers" out there, the omissions of the Appendices are a hard pill to swallow, and for those that simply enjoy the films, the pricepoint is still off, even at the discounted price. The real audiences for this are going to be those Ringers who already have the prior releases for the Appendices, want the best viewing experience, and want to own as many of the collector's editions as possible. The case is amazing, held together by magnets that offers multiple ways of folding & displaying it, but nowhere near makes up the difference in pricing. Still, despite its drawbacks, I'm grateful I grabbed this. A great display piece & conversation starter, as well as (for now) simply the best way to watch these at home.

This is a must own for any serious LOTR fan. It's a beautiful package and looks fantastic in UHD. That being said, there is almost to much here. I don't need both versions of each movie. Just the extended 4K and some extra features. 12-14 discs would be plenty. Also, I wish the cases were Steelbook, but these are minor complaints. I love the purchase, and am in the middle of a marathon right now. Enjoy!

The price is steep, almost no special features, and these are not steelbooks so do with that what you will. I love these movies as one massive set of journeys (of course Extended Editions). And I don’t think any in particular are very strong independent from the other films. Those thoughts aside; I’m very pleased with the presentation here. Recommending this for nerds of the rings

This is a great collection for those who just want the movies in 4K. If you are wanting the Appendices as well, the you will be disappointed, for they are not included in this collection.

This is a fantastic set to own if you are a fan of the middle earth franchise. I personally own the 4K steelbook set for both the hobbit and lord of the rings but had to buy this set as well as these are my all time favorite movies. Art work and 4K quality cannot be beaten and will look great for display oh any room or living room.

I enjoy this item. I do wish the Appendixes were added in as well as both the Theatrical and Extended Editions of the movies. But regardless of that, it's worth it for fans who grew up with Tolkien's books made into movies by Peter Jackson starting way back in 2001

Like many others, my main complaint is the lack of special features. With over 40 hours of documentaries available on the other releases of the two trilogies, it makes zero sense to not include them in this ‘Ultimate Edition’, even if they’re not on 4K discs. Besides that the 4K transfers are incredible.

Big fan of both LOTR and Hobbit. I usually don't buy collector's editions but after the price dropped, I jumped on it. I do think the original price was too high. It looked like it came out to buying the LOTR and Hobbit trilogy but now in one box.

Lets be honest, you are wondering if you should get this even if you already own the blu rays. C'mon you know you wanna get it. Tell your wife you found it somewhere or that it fell out of the sky.

Finally arrived. I have only watched a bit, but the should (Dolby Atmos) is fantastic. I like how the extended edition shows where the new content is.

Love the box set. A little pricey with no sale, but great collection including Extended and Theatrical editions of both the Hobbit and LotR in 4k. Discs and Digital make it versatile as well.

One the Best Movies of all time in my opinion. I was so excited when they released this on 4K with digital codes. Also, I love extended edition over the theatrical version all day.

The picture and sound quality is amazing! The extended version discs are awesome!! I just wish it had the 3D discs also if it’s the ultimate edition!

Never watched these growing up but bow i have a reason to and this collectors edition is fantastic pickup for the fans. NOW IN 4K!

Yes, I now have no less than six (6) different copies of all six movies. So, I'm a fan.,. but this is the ultimate fan collection!!!

Both Tolkien trilogies arrive on a fancy shared 31-Disc 4K and Blu-ray box set that includes the theatrical and extended versions.

I like this set. Functional box with great art work spanning the whole series. So glad to finally own these movies in 4K.
